History - In February of 2019, after the Tsipras regime successfully passed the Prespes Agreement for the renaming of FYROM, General Leonidas Dracopoulos an eminent General in the Greek Army led a successful coup-d'etat against Prime Minister Tsipras, on the night of February 1st, 2019. Tsipras and his Syriza cronies were successfully rounded up by the Army and shot. The following day, General Dracopoulos announced he was suspending the Constitution, and that Parliament would be closed for the foreseeable future - all for the Sovereignty of Greece. The news was met with opposition in Athens and Thessaloniki, but the Army promptly crushed protests, as "Leftist, traitorous elements". The Syriza Party was banned in March, as a terrorist organization. In April, General Dracopoulos formed his own party: the National People's Party. In the October 2019 election, he won 80% of the electorate, and this was followed by accusations of rigged election by PASOK, and New Democracy parties. More protests followed in November, and the Army again crushed them. Dracopoulos used the unrest in November to outlaw all political parties in Greece, and declare total martial law. Germany, France and the EU as a whole, declared Dracopoulos' regime to be illegitimate.

In January 2020, the EU gave an ultimatum: hold honest elections by August 2020, or face sanctions. Dracopoulos replied that "Greece is not answerable to the technocrats in Brussels. We have determined our own path. It is not for Brussels to dictate if and when we will have elections." Ironically, the EU's attempt to bully Greece to the table allowed Dracopoulos to portray himself as a besieged patriot. This siege mentality continued to solidify, when the August deadline passed and the sanctions kicked in. From the time the EU had first issued the ultimatum, Dracopoulos had been making secret arrangements with the Russians to buy gold and silver. Then on Christmas Eve, 2020, he announced his Christmas Surprise: Greece was going back to the Drachma. News of this threw Greece into chaos. Unrest in major cities began almost immediately, and the Army was barely able to restore order. Riots subsided in February 2021, when Dracopoulos announced the new Drachma would be backed by gold. Dracopoulos responded to sanctions by sanctioning German companies operating in Greece, and nationalizing their operations. He also simultaneously opened channels with Russia and China, to encourage investment from them, and in October 2021, he re-opened trade with Iran, much to Washington's chagrin.

On the Feast of the Anunciation (March 25th), in 2022, General Dracopoulos was almost killed as he left church. It was later alleged by the National Intelligence Service that Washington and Berlin were behind the assassination attempt. Following the Viruuma Crisis, the Dracopoulos regime put itself in very hot water for being the only NATO country to refuse to criticize Russia. Greece also reiterated its suppot for Serbia in the Kosovo Crisis. Berlin began to lobby Washington to kick Greece out of NATO, for these things. In September 2022, Greece suspended all diplomatic contact with Germany. In January 2023, he gave the Americans 6 months to vacate the naval base at Irakleion, in Crete, or else be forcibly evicted. This led to the Irakleion Crisis, in June of 2023, where an American Marine was killed by a Greek soldier, during a brawl in a tavern near the American Naval Base. Dracopoulos, desperate to prevent a war with the Americans, had the soldier punished, and arranged for payment of compensation to the Marine's family. He then offered Washington another year to vacate the base. Meanwhile, in September, he allowed the Russians to set up a Naval base on the island of Rhodes. This whole series of events, led to leaders of NATO countries calling for Greece's ejection from NATO, as a "rogue-state", however, Dracopoulos reiterated Greece's "undying commitment to NATO, but without compromising Greece's sovereign right to forge its own destiny and foreign policy."

The remainder of 2023 passed in peace, but many analysts look forward to 2024 with dread: what terrors and wild-cards would the erratic regime unleash on the World in 2024.

Greece has been established as a Syriza-run democracy with slightly growing New Democracy presence, they abandoned the Euro in 2025 though, first tier of the EU. That kind of change is inconsistent with what's been going on. I can see Golden Dawn getting a tad more popular with the whole Turkey Debacle though. If you were pretty solid on autocracy, I'd recommend the Saudis since you get a mini-Cold War with Iran.

Would you be amenable to a Greek Military Dictatorship under any circumstances? Especially if I had it take a more moderate stance?

I don't believe so, it would be a huge event which would've rocked the EU and completely changed the two Eurozone and Multispeed reforms; not to mention the NATO or EU plans for trying to fix Turkey,

And suppose it was a Pro-NATO Military Dictatorship?

It retains the same problem with EU agreements, specifically the Eurobonds conference, was hugely influenced by Greece. Making Greece a dictatorship of any kind wouldn't make sense with the continuity and would screw over the EU without a chance to react.

Suppose its a really really recent Government? As in the military coup happened in late 2023? As in the Military decides to take the Turkey debacle into their own hands, rather than wait on EU or NATO.

Even then, the EU meetings were in 2026. Regardless, I don't think Greece is in a position to fall to a military dictatorship, all of Europe save for Belarus and Russia is essentially stuck with democracy provided something mega drastic doesn't happen, which I wouldn't hold my breath for. If you're looking to go autocratic I'd try either Venezuela (if you do Venezuela, we got some stuff to talk about) or Saudi Arabia; or you could go have some fun shenanigans in Africa since they're the most flexible region in the world with everything from dictatorships to... mildly flawed democracies. If you're okay with democracy and want to give Greece a swing, I ask that you edit your application. Other interesting democratic nations are Japan, South Korea, Ethiopia (kinda democratic), Israel, Brazil (or most nations in Latin America, Mexico needs a friend).

Considering how Ethiopia is currently ruled by a Marxist/Socialist party in a coalition controlling 92% of the legislature with zero parties that support any monarchy, I suspect that wouldn't end well.

Don't use Discord. Send me a telegram, though I'll probably get back to you tomorrow, as I'm on my phone atm. And I'm thinking the current shitshow in Venezuela could be used to craft the History. I'm thinking, in 2019, both Guiaido and Maduro get taken down by General Rafael Cornelio Norieta. Norieta essentially sets up a Military Dictatorship, and does away with the Bolivarian Socialist Regime of Maduro; while also crushing the Opposition. His regime is strongly Nationalist, but still economically protectionist. While he distances himself from Cuba and Nicaragua, Norieta has maintained strong alliances with Russia and China, to keep Washington at bay.

Does this sound plausible to you? I'll work on the app tomorrow.

What kinda authoritarian state ya into? I got some random suggestions, though I could help find something you might enjoy more if you could give me a general idea of the nations you like to play as.The UAE and Saudis crucify people and are obsecenly wealthy as well. Diversifying your economy away from oil could be interesting. Thailand's got the traditional military junta with a figurehead monarch. There's always Sudan with it's stereotypical authoritarianism found among Arab League countries and of course a genocide. Novorossiya is a newly independent state right now, and it's sitting on a shitload of coal. Belarus is also another authoritarian state in Europe too. H*ck, you can probably try and do something with Hungary too.
Syria is always an interesting choice, and Lebanon is a myriad of oppurtunities. Oman is another authoritarian state though remains neutral in global affairs usually.

Venezuela rn is still under Maduro, as referenced by multiple IE posts. Any plans for Venezuela should best go through with the boss man Atrilan himself.

Klan I’m shaking and crying so much and my family is literally dead. How dare you use such a bad word.
