They pushed through anti-corruption and liberty laws, which culminated in the Million Man Protest in Beijing, demanding further developments on the field of democratization. Hu was forced out of office not long after the protests began and was replaced with Li Keqiang of the CPP, who accused the former administration of paying off members of the National Assembly to vote in democratization in an effort to "destroy China from the inside."
