A major point in German policy would be to keep France and Italy's confidence in the Union, if those two become dominated by euroskeptics (like Italy is moving towards IRL) the EU is doomed.
Well, France is actually solidly in the EU, in my opinion going off of Pew Research Center findings, but I'll work with that anyways. Same thing with Italy, except they're decently skeptical.
