I doubt it matters- in the same way that followers can't conduct independent actions, you can slap followers in spacesuits, but they can't explore away from your leader. I RPed some of Garasov's compatriots being in the spacesuits (since that seems logical for retrieving stuff and planning to conduct repairs), but I'm assuming that wasn't important in terms of mechanics.
