"Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live." - Norman Cousins
The King has passed away. King Phillip I has passed away from some sort of unknown disease or concoction. His son and heir, Phillip II inherits the throne. Regarded as a wimpling and one that could easily be swayed. Phillip II has other goals however, and while the vassals tempt the king into being their puppet he seeks other things. Vengeance, upon those and things that took his father from him. We all should pray to Luaric and God to save his darkening soul.
As the banners raise high for the new monarch. The Kingdom of Fenbardy banners tatters and breaks. Brittle from their war with the Vudal Empire. In the North the Nors raises pillaging the Emperors shores. In the Far East the steppe people raid the Holy Entrusil Empire plundering more gold each year. South of Galeacia lies Asnya who the Isthar struggles to maintain their hold on the peninsula against pious Asnyan Rebels. The future is grim, and may end up leaving Galeacia with only a broken crown.
Welcome to Broken Crown. An RP about succession leading to political instability. This RP will cover the kingdom and residents of Galeacia. This sandbox RP will cover the beginning of a succession to the ultimate anarchy of constant political turmoil.
Year is 604.
Recent Events of Galeacia
Well-informed commoners could know this sort
With the death of King Charles (564 - 602) if and no direct heir to claim the throne the crown is given to a nearby family branch of the dynasty giving the crown to a middle age man (36) named Phillip de Runate. Phillip was a pale and sickly man and dies fairly quickly ruling for only two years (602-604). Phillip II inherits the throne after his father leaving a rather young 18 year old to rule.
That's where everything comes in. His rule will be determined just or arbitrary during this RP, and it'd be up to you if for you want to revolt or stay loyal.

It could help make this RP way better than it is. Adding your own and interesting lore or ideas enriches the RP experience for everyone. It not only makes the world seem bigger, but also more involved. Maybe if it doesn't make a huge impact right away it can always be used in the future. Every idea has its own unique worth, and even if it doesn't match the time period it can be used for future plots.
Tedalonia’s Rule of Law
Now the rules, I know rules suck, but in the end of the day they keep RPs intact.1. OP’s rule is law. This is not a democracy, but instead a benevolent dictatorship.
2. If the OP is missing from the RP for a good while the Co-OPs are the temporary “dictators” to prevent the RP from dying. They can even make the OP char move or act IF said char is withholding the plot.
3. As far as magic is concerned it is rare or non-existent (for now). If you want to be a grand wizard then you have to be accepted by the OP alone. While Co-OPs can help accept applications I feel it'd be in everyone's best interest if I do the magic related chars myself.
4. Inactivity is fine to me unless your withholding other people's time. As such we will deal with inactivity in various ways from simply assisting someone to get away from your inactivity “black hole” to removing your character. Don't worry a action like removing your character cannot taken lightly, thus only the OP can do it.
5. Posts should be decently long unless your in a discussion with another char. Depending on length it might be advisable to coordinate one "mega" post to put on the IC by using a google doc.
6. You can only have one char, however you can make an infinite amount of NPCs. These guys should have their own goals, but should ultimately spare you from being overrunned with chars. As such NPCs will never be feudal lords (due to the fact that most PCs will want land).
7. Follow game mechanic rules unless your doing a duel. Duels can be decided via discussion with the two combating individuals unless they insist on using said mechanics.
8.Have fun. Yes, that's a rule.
A regiment will be a size of 500 for the sake of game mechanics. Remember this is WIP.
3 flanks (left, center, right), with 1 optional (reserve). Army is distributed between them. Army orders are written and sent in after a brief description of the battlefield.
| Reserve |
Each flank is rolled on a d10, with liberal application of modifiers. Higher number wins. Casualties are taken from the difference between the two rolls, multiplied by a third d10. That is for the losing flank. The winning flank takes half that.
Example:
Num is the number of men in a retinue. They are initially 500 for a single retinue. This is a army of Light Infantry vs a matching army of Light Infantry. They are battling on a flat field charging at one another.
| Reserve |
| Left Flank | Center Flank | Right Flank |
| Num - 500 | Num - 500 | Num - 500 |
| Left - 10 | Center - 7 | Right - 4 |
|-------------------------------------------------|
| Left - 4 | Center - 6 | Right - 10 |
| Num - 500 | Num - 500 | Num - 500 |
| Left Flank | Center Flank | Right Flank |
| Reserve |
| Army B |
Mult stands for the third d10 multiplier. Left flanks difference in numbers were 6, center was 1, and right was 6 also. So it'd be D10 * Flank Difference.
Results:
| Left Flank | Center Flank | Right Flank |
| Mult - 10 | Mult - 5 | Mult - 1 |
| Num - 470 | Num - 497 | Num - 497 |
|----------------------------------------------|
| Num - 440 | Num - 495 | Num - 494 |
| Left Flank | Center Flank | Right Flank |
| Army B |
Battle is won by the side who wins two flanks. If the losing side didn't have a reserve, then an additional d10*20 casualties are applied. If there is a reserve then a fourth flank battle is rolled, where all the victorious army's flanks are combined, with a +4 modifier to the roll. The reserve must have at least 10% of the army's total number to be considered for this fourth flank battle.
Levy:
These troops are not purchasable in the traditional sense. A lord can pass land grants to settle more peasants and free landowners in his county - at the expense of his personal revenue stream - which would increase the natural manpower pool of the county. These troops can be raised when foreign forces attempt to attack the county or country (be it a rival lord or alien king) but their morale and loyalty when forced to partake in any offensive campaign past their month'y obligations will be met with fierce resistance, and monetary offerings will only go so far to aleavate it.
- Light Infantry: 1 point per regiment
- Archers: 1 point per regiment
- Light Cavalry: 1.5 point per regiment
Retinue:
These men are the closest thing to a professional army any magnate can get. Often granted temporary lots of land to sustain their military services, these soldiers are equipped out of the pocket of the magnate, which is generally the only real distinction to be made between them and out-and-out mercenaries. However, this class of men, in addition to technological advancements, would come to form the fledgling nobility class known as "knights" who came to dominate the military arm of the medieval age for several centuries. They give a natural +2 two combat rolls.
- Heavy Infantry: 2 point per regiment
- Light Cavalry: 1.5 point per regiment
- Heavy Cavalry: 2.5 point per regiment
Combat Advantage:
With the overwhelming tactical possibilities, various strategies, and moral boostings. Most things that give you a combat advantage will be determine by the Battles determiner. He or she will determine whether you standing in the middle of your army gave your troops a bonus, penalty, or neither.
This is where your unit choice will gain ground. There is not much to do with cavalry in a swamp, so the determiner wouldn't give you much of a bonus, but for archers on a hill perhaps +2 for the higher ground advantage. That sort of thing.
Here's a application to becoming a determiner if you want to.

[box]Third Party Battle Determiner Application
A Battle Determiner is a daunting task. One must make the right decisions and remain as little of a bias as possible. It is not a job to those who are fairly new to NS or to the inexperienced for RPs. Do you agree to becoming a third party Battle Determiner?

Prosperity
The measurement of how effective your county is being runned. Unless your a unique County typically you'll have 1 prosperous and the rest average.
Rich - produces 5 points
Prosperous - produces 4 points
Average - produces 3 points
Undercultivated - produces 2 points
Poor - produces 1 point
You can own land as a duke, vassal, etc or you can decide to play a knight of commoner it's up to you. Religion and culture is a notable issue, since if your not part of the Galeic culture or Lutholic religion you are liable of being oppressed by the ruling class.
You can also have unlimited NPCs, but they can't start with or obtain land unless a main character you have dies, which they can in turn become your main character to replace the old. The reason this is to prevent one chap having half the kingdom. You should also consider giving chars to other players. Like if "Jimmy the Raider" chose to move onto other lands to raid you can request for someone to use him for their story.
Also if you're planning to be a eastern border vassal. I'm going to TG you, you chaps get a lovely fill in on part of the plot. You'll also be more likely to favor the king also once you hear part of the plot. It's not major spoilers, so don't get to excited.
