I doubt my ancient confederation can handle the loss of manpower and having to pay for that manpower too. Remember, half of our population is made up of farmers and fishermen, and the other half are traders.

Sure, I assume that would happen. I -think- N. America already has the Three Sisters, beans, maize, and squash, but some were fairly recent domesticates in Central or Southern America so the cultivars available to Franklin might not be the most nutritious or hardy.

We currently grow maize, some cultivars of squash, beans, and wild rice. However, the Lagoon Company has been getting involved in the Mesoamerican trade networks, in order to obtain new spices such as chili peppers.

Not every person reacts to penicillin the same. Not all cultures even produce Penicillin-like strands. And identifying and separating the good from the bad is an even harder task.

The Imperium alone has the technology, expertise, and manpower needed to make penicillin and even then it's probably got a horrific failure rate.
