Type of Organisation: Corporation/Crime organization
Organisation Name: Finé, Inc.
How old is organisation?: 134 years
Logo / symbol (image and / or description): a stylized black-and-gold F
Basis of operation / headquarters: Surface headquarters: Callisto Towers, Urbis Forum; Illegal base: Finé Mansion, Urbis Forum
Ideology of Organisation: Profit and good taste
Brief background: Finé was founded 234 years ago by Callisto Finé, an art collector and smuggler with ties to the movement that would eventually become the Pale Legion. Finé, Inc. was originally formed as an art-selling corporation, cutting deals with promising artists to improve their net worth and reputation and selling the works of world-famous artists. Callisto Finé’s good art sense, underworld connections, and talent at bribing just the right politicians led to instant success and a revival in Agenoran interest in art. Her human supremacist views, however, led to an untimely death by assassination twelve years later.

The ownership of Finé was then passed on to Callisto’s son, Yaren Finé I, who expanded the industry to include other fineries such as precious stones, stylish clothing, and antiques. Under his son, Yaren II, the Finé family’s black market interests were combined with their surface corporation, resulting in two layers of Finé: the surface company and the underworld corporation, dealing in theft and forgery. Under Yaren II, Finé garnered more power both legally and illegally until it was one of the most successful corporations in Agenor. The Finé family name ended with Makena Finé, who married the rich politician Dalton Holderman. The Holderman family’s wealth was nearly as great as the Finés’, and the intertwining of the two lines led to a boom in Finé’s success. Dalton Holderman, a member of the Senate, was a well-known Pale Legion sympathizer, and their nephew, Barron, who inherited the corporation, immediately strengthened Finé’s ties to the human supremacist group by paying small sums of money to Pale Legion politicians in return for sponsorship and advertising. The most influential corporation in Agenor, Finé is revered in a way that simply owning an empty Finé box with the iconic F inscribed on it is a great status symbol.

In recent years, Finé has been cited for civil rights abuses of employees, but as of now no legal action has been taken.

Character Name: Barron Holderman
Age: 53
Being type (e.g. Human, Goblin): Human
Appearance (image and / or description): Stout and slightly overweight. Has dark brown hair and calculating black eyes. Wears excessively fancy apparel with several thick golden rings on his fingers.
Place of birth: Holderman Mansion, Victorum
Current location: Finé Mansion, Urbis Forum
Cause (what they are driven by): Money and happiness
Profession: CEO of Finé, runs both the surface and underground factions
Skills: Bribery, threats, and corporate management
Flaws: Unlikable, has difficulty getting other to trust and like him; stuck-up, and racist
Brief background: Both Barron Holdermans's father and uncle were Senators and Pale Legion sympathizers, and his aunt, Makena Finé, was the richest woman in Agenor. Growing up, he was surrounded by society's richest and elite and the most influential human supremacists of Agenor. Upon Makena's death when he was thirty-two, leaving Finé to him, Holderman used his ties to the Pale Legion and his enormous inheritance to increase his personal power and wealth to an extreme. Taught by his role models in life to put power and money above all else, Holderman knows only the world of politics and corporations and money. As a child, he had no loving parental figures, only the imposing Holderman and Finé families. As a result, Holderman grew up knowing nothing of love or kindness, and feels like something is missing in his life. Since all he knows is money, he is trying to remedy this in the only way he knows: acquiring more money. Unfortunately, loneliness is a problem that cannot be fixed with wealth.

Character Name: Reum
Age: 23
Being type (e.g. Human, Goblin): Ratfolk
Appearance (image and / or description): Rather short and skinny, with a crippled left foot. Mottled brown and grey fur with charcoal stains that never seem to come off. Wears tattered rags. The symbol of Finé is branded on her right forearm.
Place of birth: a sewer beneath the suburbs of Incaendium, the capital of Ignea
Current location: an old, seemingly abandoned warehouse in Urbis Forum that is currently occupied by Finé
Cause (what they are driven by): Reum is driven on a daily basis by her desire to improve her situation by any means possible, but her goal in life is to create what she calls her One Great Masterpiece - a single great work of art, the culmination of all her artistic skills, that would be hers alone and not passed off as the work of some other artist.
Profession: Creating art masterpieces to be sold off as works of famous artists, often forgeries of existing artworks
Skills: Art (preferred medium: charcoal), persuasion
Flaws: Unable to run or walk properly, has difficulty trusting others, lacking in empathy, no real friends
Brief background: Reum was born in a sewer under the suburbs of Incaendium in a large colony of over two hundred ratfolk. Sewer life was rough and packed; Reum never knew her parents or relatives and was forced to fend for herself, trapping and eating small creatures that happened to wander into the sewer. She relied on no one, preferring to keep her distance from the others. When she was eight, the human man who lived above the sewer discovered the colony and contacted Finé, who paid him a small sum of money to purchase the entire colony of ratfolk as slaves. Reum tried to flee when the slave dealers arrived, but was caught before she exited the sewers. Her left leg was broken and permanently crippled in the action, and the stylized F was branded onto her forearm.

Reum's colony was forced to work extracting diamonds from a mine in Andvariheim, but Reum, a cripple, was unable to work properly and worked as an unpaid janitor instead. In between janitor work, she drew on the walls with stubs of charcoal, her only pastime. As janitor, Reum overheard everyone's conversations and started a discreet information business, selling information for a scrap of food or a blanket. Sometimes she used her crippled leg to get sympathy and food from others; a schemer, she would stop at nothing to achieve her aims. Eventually Žvende Grinz, a goblin overseer, noticed the beautiful charcoal sketches dotting the walls and reported Reum's amazing artistic ability to his superiors. Reum was sent to Forn and immediately put to work drawing and painting full-time. Surrounded by humans in much higher standards of living than her, Reum realized just how much better humans' lives were than those of ratfolk. Reum is determined to someday rise above the stigma placed on ratfolk and become her true self.

Character Name: Žvende Grinz
Age: 32
Being type (e.g. Human, Goblin): Goblin
Appearance (image and / or description): Thin and wiry runt, with beady black eyes and splotchy olive green skin; brutish and dirty
Place of birth: Suburbs of Forn
Current location: a nondescript apartment in Urbis Forum
Cause (what they are driven by): Power and tormenting Reum
Profession: Art Forgery Overseer, Finé Inc.
Skills: Sneaking around and being threatening
Flaws: Easily tricked, nasty and unlikable personality
Brief background: Žvende Grinz was born into a family of twelve and was summarily thrown out of the house because of his diminutive size and detestable personality. Wandering the streets of Forn, homeless, he one day chanced across two thieves in the attempt of stealing a priceless topaz for Finé. Instead of alerting law enforcement, he made a deal with them: he would keep quiet in return for the thieves getting him a job. They agreed, and soon Grinz was a junior overseer of a diamond mine worked by ratfolk. Grinz loved his work, enjoying threatening and beating the helpless ratfolk whenever possible. Grinz enjoyed harassing one ratwoman in particular, a janitor with a crippled leg. Over time, however, he noticed the beautiful drawings that followed her wherever she went, and began to suspect she was the artist. He soon contacted his boss and was sent along with Reum back to his home city of Forn, where he was put to work overseeing Reum's work. Grinz, addicted to the feeling of power, rose in station until he was the overseer of the entire Art Forgery department. He often mentally sneered at his parents for disowning him: he was one of the most prominent goblin criminals in Finé's underworld.

Grinz's one problem in life was that he hated Reum. He held his position only because he had convinced his superiors that Reum could not continue her work without him, and so if he got rid of her he would lose his job. He is forced to torment Reum at every possible opportunity, but is afraid of Reum's power: if she reports him, he is done for. Because of this, Reum is able to manipulate him to do whatever she wants, and he resents the power she holds over him. One day, he vows, he will get rid of Reum once and for all...

Just noticed Finé is a few hundred years older than the Pale Legion. Hrrm. I'll have to fix that.

Yeah, I made it young because it’s a revival of human supremacy. Before the legion was founded, racial tensions were at an all time low. Psychologically fearing the growing the equality and fear of losing their human identity, The legion was formed!

All right, I made Finé a hundred years younger and specified that Callisto was involved with the predecessors of the Pale Legion, not the Legion as it exists in its present-day form.

Yeah there were still plenty of human supremecist groups before hand, the legion just banded them together and gave them a voice.

His father worked as a lumberjack, and his mother stayed home to watch Kris's other three brothers and four sisters. Kris was a pretty average boy at the time, God fearing, working with his father often, and a lot of friends. The Kingdom of Rivinia always has had sour relations with the Duchy of Sanguis. The Rivinians, having a nickname of 'The Kingdom of Man', was God fearing. The Rivinians thought that the Vampires were demons from hell...yeah. The Sanguis, a Vampire state, called the Humans weak, and easy to crush. For decades there was a tense peace, but on April 12, 1304, a Vampire group of drunk aristocrats stumbled onto a town, and raped and infect 20 women, 6 of which were under 18. King Eriksson I was furious. He demanded 20 women, virgins in fact, and a white stallion as trbune. The Sanguis Duke, Olano III, refused, and started to mass his armies on the Rivinian-Sanguis border. Ericsson did the same. After three days of tense standoff, a Rivinian soldier shot down a raven, thinking it was a vampiric bat. The raven was actually a messenger, and Olano considered this an act of war. From April 15-17th, fierce fighting al along the border. Kris was more than eager to join his countrymen, and, after some persuasion, Kris's father agreed.

For the next ten months, Kris received grueling trading from his commander, Sir Harley of Kilrootom. When Kris finally recevied his uniform and his orders, help guard a fortress in Garrett. This shocked Kris, because Garrett is nowhere near the border, but he didn't know that Rivinia was rapidly losing ground. Vampires were thought to be invincible, none of the Rivinians weapons could damage them. After two months, only one Vampire died. Before Kris knew it, Garrett was a fiery hell of fierce combat. The Fortress supply lines were curbed, and Garrett began to starve. Kris lost 30 pounds in two months. The last thung edible was garlic, and no one wanted to eat that. On June 16th, a large Sanguis army was reported to arrive at Garrett. A starved Sir Harley was preparing to surrender when the Vampires came but Kris, not giving up, threw a garlic at the Vampiric Commander. He was repulsed, as if he was sprayed with pepper spray. A soldier three a torch at the Vampire, and he went up in flames, and dropped dead a minute later. Sir Harley immeadiatley ordered that garlics and flames would tip the arrows, and to fire. It was a massacre on both sides, but Garrett held on until reinforcements arrived. While Kris was burying dead bodies, he noticed that a vampire died after it was struck from a very big splinter, almost like a stake, in the heart. How interesting. The victory at Garrett boosted morale across Rivinia, and it turned the heads of many other empires, who began to think about aiding Rivinia. Kris was promoted two months later, and assumed command of a smaller fortress 60 miles east, named Clover. Kris almost immediately began tipping arrows with garlic and garlic dust, and experimented with wooden javelins. On August 9th, a small army attacked Clover, none of the Vampires survived and only 6 humans died. Attacks like these continued for a month, and Olano III was pissed. He decided to send his mist elite legion to obliterate this speck in the dirt. On October 1st, at midnight, the most elite army in Sanguis, mabye all of Eris, attacked the lowly fortress known as Clover. It was a bloodbath, but mostly on the Human side. About two hours into the fight, Kris was struck by an arrow in his thigh. Thinking he wouldn't make it, he ordered one of his officers to take command. Hoping to die peacefully, Kris slept.

Kris awoke to the smell of smoke, and a vampire closing in on him. Clover was being to a crisp, and most if the Humans were retreating. The smoke blocked out the sun, it could have been half a hour or five hours after Kris slept. This was when a rush of pain hit Kris, it looked like somebody pulled out the arrow in his thigh. He was sitting in a pool of blood, it didn't look to bright. It looks like the Vampire noticed that Kris was awake, and was coming to deal the final blow. Cool, he thought. As Kris was uttering his final prayer, the Vampire knelt over him and bit in the the neck. It felt like he was injected with something. Kris scrambled and found some garlic dust on the ground, he threw at his attacker's eyes. The Vampire screamed, and a few other vampires came over, picked up Kris, and threw him into a carriage. Kris was getting drowsy, and he felt his finger, so cold. Kris slept.

When Kristopher woke up, he found himself in some kind of camp, like a mix of a POW camp and a training facility. His teeth felt weird, and when he putted his cold finger in his mouth, it was cut by a very sharp tooth, like a fang. Kris was thrown out of the carriage and was forced to do 25 push-ups before going to meet his commander. When he arrived, his commander explained that he was part of the next generation of Sanguis soldiers, an army of infected humans. For the next three weeks, Kristopher trained, and his wound was treated.

After a three weeks of training, Kris's transformation into a vampire was almost complete. He and his classmates began to formulate a plan to escape, and they needed a bird. Nurse Elena, the Vampire who treated Kris's thigh, agreed to help. She didn't like recruiting soldiers by infecting humans, and she lent her carrier pigeon. The group wrote a message and sent it to the nearest human fortress, Fairview. Fairview relayed the message to King Ericsson, and Ericsson sent his most elite men, the Knights of the Round Table, to break them out. On September 6th, the Round Table arrived at top speed, breaking out many vampiric-humans.

This was the tipping point, The Empire of Lupus, mainly werewolves, began to send troops in Rivinia's aid. Kris was honorably discharged and began treatment to help reverse the Vampire' s effects. This was 1306, so this meant leeches and herbs, but Kris pretended to be better. By the time Kris returned to West Horton, on February 2nd, 1307, the First Great Vampiric war was finished with the first ever successful amphibious invasion. In the night, Kristopher was knighted by King Ericsson as Sir Kristopher of West Horton. Ericsson asked Kris to be apart of His Majesty's Strategic Staff, or HMSS. Kris agreed, in exchange to being pardoned whenver he had to drink blood, and he served valiantly, making strategies and new weapons, like a crossbow that shoots a wood stake covered in garlic juice, and a pepper spray like contraption that is filled with garlic juice. Since Kris was now a legally a vampire, some of these was reluctantly tested on him. He served there through the Second Great Vampiric war (1656-1670) and some Elvish-Dwarf conflicts (1755, 1802-1804, 1825, 1838). In 1840, Rivinia was annexed by Renglond, Kris didn't care. He was recruited by King Francis to be a general, and he accepted. Kris was, and still is, considered one of the best strategists in human history. His last war was the The Great World War (1913-1922). States all over Eris erupted into conflict. In our timeline, WWI was thought to to be the War to end all wars, while the Great World War was known as the War to end the World. Kris realized that his tactics are long gone, his idea to use trenches didn't work out so well. So he decided to return to civil life. Kristopher still wanted to serve his country, so he decided to help advise the Emperor. In 1937, Emperor Alred Rolar was a Half-Elf. Okay, thought Kris, he had worst. But Rolar also claimed he was a pure elf, and was a supremacist. Rolar was a very contreverisal Emperor, and riots soon broke out. This escalated to civil war, and Rolar recruited Kris as his top general. By 1940, the Ratfolk were nearly finished, and Rokar began to focus on the Goblins. Kris discovered files about exterminating non-Human or Elf races. Being a Vampire, Kris was very pissed. He gave these files to the Ratfolk, Goblins, and the rest of the world. Kris then defected, joining the resistance. He was given a Vampiric army at first, but that didn't last very long. Born vampires despised Kris, he was a human folklore hero, a warrior who was depicted to kill thousands of wampires. But in vampiric legend, he was like a boogeyman.Even though he tried to explain he only killed a couple hundred, they didn't follow his orders anyway. Kris was then given a Ratfolk army, who was much more loyal. When Kris first entered their camp, it was abysmal. Their uniforms were not clean, and they smelled like they didnt bathe in months. Kris trained the living shit out of the ratfolk, and they became more and more confident in Kris. At the time, Ratfolk was depicted as vile creatures, but with Kris's leadership, the Ratfolk gained countless victories against Rolar's armies. There is a legend that he didn't lose a single man, that's wrong, he lost five out of 300. Kris often butted heads with Ratfolk general, Rusty Milkivy. When Kris heard he would work with Milkivy, he was ecstatic. Kris knew Milkivy as a bubbly, full of energy private from the Great World War, but he changed. The general now wore a light brown, slightly lighter than his fur, shirt and pants. Black boots that went up to his knees and a black beret. Milkivy was now the polar opposite if Kris. When Kris often charged up with his men, Milkivy was In an encampment miles away. When Kris still wore the uniform that he wore since 1840, Milkivy wore bullet proof materials and helmets. While Kris often used his old saber, milk ivy often brandished his M1 Garand. They wrre still friends, but when Kris planned, for the entire week, to capture a town, Milkivy already captured it. This went vice versa for the next few years. In 1951, after almost 12 million people were dead, Kris marched through the last line of Elvish defense and marched through the Forn. Rolar ate a cyanide capsule, and the war, Kris's last war, was finished. Kristopher then advised 14 Emperors after that, through thick and thin, for the next 66 years. He grew tired of the hack politicians, nothing like King Ericsson, and left with the last Emperor (she was a handful). He is now retired, and is teaching of Urbis Forum University to fulfill his life. Kristopher Devonshire reached History (he lived through 3/4 of the textbook), and is the Director of the War Reenactment club.

No In-Character posts up yet. Going to re-arrange Exhallos (the Rock band) and have the Minotaur on the drums and put the center on the electric bass guitar.

Corpus Magnus wrote:

While slavery has been illegal for over 150 years, some illegal black market slavery continues, so that is good. Just clarify whether the corporation is 134 or 234 years old.

While the garlic subplot is interesting, I think it is a slightly convenient and confusing weakness. Lets maybe have it that Vampires are vulnerable to fire, and rather are simply repulsed by the smell of garlic. Vampires can form the elite nobility of their armies, but lets have much of their armies also consist of skeletons and zombies (with zombies also vulnerable to fire).

The wars look interesting, but I’d also like to add the Great Agenorian War to that (1937-1951), which erupted after a Half-Elf supremacist won power as Emperor in a contentious election, claimed to be a pure elf and pushed the supremacy of humans, half-elves, dwarves and half-dwarves, targeting ratfolk and goblins in particular.

All good. I may delay the IC for one day longer. Something has come up that puts me out of WiFi access for one more day. Rest assured, it will be up tomorrow when I come back (probably by around 1 or 2pm South Africa time).

EDIT: I may actually be able to do it far earlier, the situation has changed a bit.

Aldo did the edit on the height.

True, but this is more Europe based than US based. I’ll accept it though, and we will just have the 90 meter tall ones as very very rare. Anyway, I’ll accept :). Will add them soon. Looking forward to seeing an interesting treekin character from you.

Profession: Professor of History, UFU

Brief background: Born in West Horton, Rivinia in the year 1283, Kristopher Alexander Phillip Devonshire was born to a poor household.

He burned and dropped dead a minute later. Sir Harley immeadiatley ordered that garlics would tip the arrows, and to fire.

Kris was getting drowsy, and he felt his finger so cold.

After a three weeks of trading, Kris's transformation into a vampire was almost complete.

He advised 14 Emperors, through thick and thin, for the next 95 years.

Final clash between Republican and Imperial forces comes at Battle of Châluan, with bloody but decisive Imperial victory. Emperor Leo di Buon is captured and imprisoned on a tiny island controlled by Elysia. Republican hardliners refuse to relinquish Urbis Forum, but they are outnumbered and defeated.

1830 ME - Three Day Revolution in Urbis Forum, commoners revolt against unpopular impose Mayor, Károlos Gorizia. Revolt ends with greater rights for the commoners and new mayor appointed.
1833 ME - Regnalond bans slavery. Slave trade is finally banned across the Empire. Children of slaves in Victorum remain slaves.
1840 ME - Emperor Friedrich the Abolitionist dies peacefully aged 69. Duke Óthon Wittelsbach of Bovaria was elected the fourteenth Emperor (aged 25), seen by many to be a compromise monarchist candidate who could be controlled, and wouldn't isolate any member nation too much.
1848 ME - Year of Revolutions. Republic revolts break out in Ignea. 1848 Revolution breaks out in Urbis Forum demanding more rights from commoners and the ability to elect their mayor. Revolts later break out in Tor, Victorum and Bovaria. "The Communitarian Manifesto" is written by Karl Barx, a bitten werewolf from Tor, and Friedrich Thickbeard, a dwarf from Andvariheim. Revolts are suppressed. Lewis di Buon, nephew of Leo di Buon, is elected Mayor of Urbis Forum. Only male humans, half-elves, half-dwarves and dwarves over the age of 30, and owning a house or land, are allowed to vote.
1852 ME - Facing massive external and internal pressure, Victorum abolishes slavery, but enforces 20 years compulsory apprenticeship for all current slaves.
1853 - 1860 ME - Conquest of the North. Imperial armies march north and conquer the northmen of Svobodnaya Zemlya. They then send the Imperial Navy and army to work as a combined force to conquer Tallimat Qassimasoq and the "Seal Hunters". Both nations are incorporated into the Empire.

1864 ME - Emperor Pallas passes massive federal reforms, local governments and authorities gain greater local control. Reforms the entire political system, establishing a system whereby each nation elects two Senators (for 4 years, alternating 1 every 2 years). Controversially this includes giving goblins self-governance, and including goblin senators in the new Imperial Senate. Emperor to still be chosen amongst elites however, and goblin elites given little to no say on the matter. Voting for senators still reserved for landowning males over the age of 25. Power shifts sharply from landed nobility to land-owning bourgeoise. Reforms improve working conditions somewhat, but working class still denied the vote.
1870 ME - Lewis di Buon, Mayor of Urbis Forum, is overthrown by an Anarcho-Communist revolution in the capital, demanding the vote for working people and the establishment of a people's republic. Establishment of Forn Commune.
1871 ME - Imperial army crushes Forn Commune with ruthless force. Further reforms made however to try appease working class.
1876 ME - Tensions between Vampires and Werewolves explode into warfare. Tensions threaten Imperial territory.
1877 ME - Empire sides with Vampires against Werewolves in Conquest of Awooooooo!
1880 ME - Despite being technically defeated, Werewolves refuse to give up war and engage in bloody guerrilla war.
1884 ME - Treaty of Urbis Forum eventually ends war, with Awooooooo! and Pădurea Morților joining the Empire in return for significant special local control rules. Both elect Senators to join the now 40 member Imperial Senate. People's Party founded as merger of the Monarchist Party, the Sons of Adon, Dwarven Pride and Elven Alliance. Represents conservative interests among humans, elves and dwarves.
1886 ME - Emperor Pallas the Federalist steps down aged 104. General Otto von Leomarck of Tor, a hardened veteran and war hero, is elected as the sixteenth Emperor (aged 71). He puts together a colaition of Federalist and People's Party support. He starts a project of modernising and developing the Imperial Army, and brings tough law and order to the land. His harshness, particularly against ratfolk and goblin criminals, makes him unpopular with these groups. He uses careful diplomacy to prevent open war however.
1892 ME - Interventionists force Emperor Otto "the Iron Emperor" out. King Wilheim Brannen of Tor is elected seventeenth Emperor (aged 33), becoming the first People's Party Emperor.

Brief background: Born in West Horton, Rivinia in the year 1283, Kristopher Alexander Phillip Devonshire was born to a poor household.

By 1940, the separatists were nearly finished, until Kris discovered files about exterminating non-Human or Elf races. Being a Vampire, Kris was very pissed. He gave these files to the Ratfolk, Goblins, and the rest of the world. Kris then defected, joining the resistance. He was given a Vampiric army at first, but that didn't last very long. Vampires despised Kris, he was a human folklore hero, a warrior who was depicted to kill thousands of Vampires. Even though he tried to explain he only killed a couple hundred, they didn't follow his orders anyway. Kris was then given a Ratfoll army, who was much more loyal. At the time, Ratfoll was depicted as vile creatures, but with Kris's leadership, the Ratfoll gained countless victories against Rolar's armies. There is a legend that he didn't lose a single man, that's wrong, he lost five out of 300.

It seems a little overpowered to say that within 3 years separatist forces were nearly finished, but it may be fair to say that one large element of the separatists were nearly finished (goblins, ratfolk, vampires, werewolves, etc). You would also obviously be one of many generals who helped defeat Rolar, although perhaps being a key general who brought centuries of experience and useful intelligence on the Imperial Armies. Otherwise this looks good :)

I wonder if most of the characters are going to convene at The Silver Bullet for first character interactions.

"Setting the Stage".
I'm told it's a fairly big and gritty dive.
So, it depends on the character(s).
