I also feel like we only need to be semi-bound to realism here. To be fair, we've got divine deities, sentient ice crystals, and dwarves with primitive firearms. Some plate armour and a fancy helm for aesthetics will probably be fine.

I'm also curious: what're the relationships between the deities in this world? Do we have any kind of 'rules of engagement' that they've stuck to over the millenia to prevent large conflicts? Is there any sort of leadership structure? Do they all know of each other?

Most probably it would be "Don't obliterate the mortal realm with your divinity" and "use your mortal creations instead".

Name: Devana
Appearance: Here
Domain: Magic
Secondary Domain: Destruction
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Description: Magic is the definition of chaos as it brings forth changes into the world. Whether it looks natural or utterly bizzare, magic is the essence of change. Devana represented the chaotic side of magic, the destruction that the mystical energy can bring about. He granted the world with the energy of mana, the essence of imagination and wonder and one of the foundations of reality alongside science. However, when the Schism happened, the God of Magic vanished. Not a single trace of him could be found. His realm is still active yet closed off, even from other gods. Not even his followers or his creations could find him and it has left the Angeli in a state of despair as their creator left them to die in a scarred and broken world.
Plane:
RP Example: Awwwwww c'mon we know each other :p

#Godapp - tracking purposes.

Name: Angeli
Appearance: A race of humanoid angelic beings, each have two white feathered wings that sprout either by their shoulders or around their waist. Their ears are like that of a rabbit's and they have a halo on top of their heads.
Description: Despite their angelic appearances, the Angeli are the epitome of magical power and the vehicles of destruction. They are the hands of Devana upon the mortal plane and they have once taught the races how to manipulate the strands of mystical energy that the mortals have known as magic. As the harbingers of destruction, the Angeli are walking and flying weapons of mass destruction and have great physical strength and resilience. Even without their magic and with their wings clipped, the Angeli are still an undeniable threat. The last time these monsters were seen was during the Advent of the Schism where they have been documented to bring destruction upon the battlefields and left the earth scorching in their wake. However, the Schism has crippled and has led the race into near extinction with only 500 of them alive to this day. Devana's disappearance and their race's inability to breed and procreate in a normal manner has left them hiding in the Phantom City of Ghebrilias, cowering and afraid of the rest of the world. He only left the Angeli an advicr before the Schism happened: to find their true purpose. Yet what is the purpose of the Angeli but to follow his commands?
Creator: Devana

#Raceapp - Tracking Purposes

Name: Phantom City of Ghebrilias
Territory: The Phantom City is called as such for it vanishes from the eyes of mortals that behold it. It is considered one of the mythical places of the world and has legends of legendary mages emerging from within after being enlightened and chosen by the Angeli. It is rumored that it resides somewhere in the gigantic island in the middle of the lake of the continent but no one is clear.
Population: 500
Military: 500
Description: The Phantom City is a metropolis filled with sky high pillars and towers with various buildings made out of marble and crystals. The city is situated underneath 3 ley lines and has been considered a divine sanctuary of magic by people who have been blessed to set foot in the city and leave its premises alive. However, with the Schism, the city's wards have been repealed due to the weakening of magic and its endangered denizens fear the day where mortals who desire the return of magic to the world would conquer their city.

#Civapp - Tracking Purposes

Name: Jibriel, the Final Angeli
Appearance: Here
Personality: Unlike the other Angeli who thought their duty is it is, a command that must be followed, Jibriel sees none. She sees it as a sport, as a form of enjoyment. She's the only Angeli to have shown defiance against the orders of Devana and has the free will to go overboard from his commands. She is described as an unstable and horrible killing machine and is shown to be more eeriely human than her more subservient and mechanical brethren.
Bio:
Jibriel was the last Angeli that was created by Devana. Perhaps the deity have sensed the Schism is bound to happen, as mortals abused magic in various degrees, thus he created the strongest Angeli. He imparted his divine blood upon his creation and has made a genuine divine child. Jibriel wasn't just born as the last Angeli but Devana's demigod daughter and only the eldest of Angeli knew this fact. The eldest knew that their creator is planning something but they never thought that it would be their God and creator leaving them alone in the world of mortals.

When the Schism has started, the Angeli were in a panic. They don't know what is happening. Magic has plummeted and even they can feel its effects. Jibriel was the only one who gave a solution. It was to fly and leave the Phantom City and find the source of this weakening. And so, the Angeli took to the skies and waged war.

They have graced battlefields where confused nations fought and destroyed those they faced. They joined no sides but their own and only fought for their purpose. They continued to massacre countless lives until the true threat has surfaced.

The Angeli then joined the melee during the war against the dark beings of the north. They have won yet they have lost miserably. The proud and feared Legion has been reduced to 500 and Jibriel could only retreat in shame.

Years have passed since the resolution of the Schism yet magic is a faint pulse. The Angeli are still shocked and cowering. Thus Jibriel made a choice. She left the city and her kin and wandered into the open world in search for the true purpose of her race.

Name: The Imperium

Territory:
Image

Population: 40 million

Military: 1 million

Description:
The Imperium is one of the largest empires since the schism and claims to have roots dating back to before the great disaster (although the chance of any of these claims being true is far from likely). The nation follows a set feudal system with a ruling human monarch being at the top. Below them is a large system of representation where the nation is roughly split up into military, mercantile, magic and religion. Although the sheer scale of the empire has resulted in a vast array of cultures and traditions forming within its borders and many fiefs.

In many ways this has made the imperium to be seen as one of the more ‘free’ empires. Without a central religion, different groups follow different gods and beliefs with some of the larger pantheons earning direct representation within the hierarchy. Adding to this, the Imperium has permitted entry to all races that are willing to follow the empire’s laws bringing with them another vast wave of different ideologies. Although after problematic encounters, the imperium has also staffed an inquisition to fend off the growth of cultist like followings of deities like Manacar and the no-name god of chaos to limited success.

As for its military, the Imperium employs a standing trained army of roughly 1 million. Being such a large target for raiders and chaotic monsters alike, the Imperium puts a significant amount of funding into training and equipping its soldiers as well as giving its forces the freedom to act against threats as they appear. While this has lead to several unnecessary skirmishes in the past, it has also prevented a number of potentially devastating attacks. Another key point of the military is its use of different races. Overall there is no set policies but instead the captain and lords are permitted to adapt their legions to their fief’s population, allowing for highly improvised and adapted forms of combat being added to the core training beliefs. In theory this has allowed for better suited forces and garrisons but has also lead to confusions, mismanagement and supply issues when large scale mobilization is required. Adding to this is a common issue of inequality between humans and the many other serving races. Despite the faults however, the imperium’s military has shown itself to be a force to be reckoned with, even by size alone. And while its not required by law, society usually demands the universal training of youth with bows and spears in preparation of danger and attackers also allowing for rapid conscription in times of peril

In the end however, the empire is too large to work without faults. Its size has lead to fiefdoms with tyrannical rulers going unnoticed so long as the taxes are paid and vast amounts of inequality and even slavery being unsolved. While the imperium’s core fiefs are commonly seen as a beacon of hope and prosperity to all races seeking stability, many find themselves stuck in the corrupt slums of the outermost cities. All the while, many refuse to take action either from simply accepting the problems as unsolvable or by choosing to live in blissful ignorance.

Soion's a pretty recent arrival (at least in comparison to all the millennia-old deities), having only come into existence a century ago or two. It's still growing into his ability and is still a little ignorant, and doesn't know other deities even exist, though I find it very possible that at least Golondor knows of his existence, him being the god of the mortal realm's surface waters. Soion had manipulated the sea currents last time he arrived on the mortal planet, so it may very well be that at least one god has taken note of it. Still, Soion does not know any of the other deities, and therefore wouldn't be aware of any rules or leadership structure that have been made.

Name: Sahar
Appearance:
Image

Domain: Mystical Artifacts
Secondary Domain: Blacksmiths
Alignment: Neutral Good
Description: Sahar is one of the youngest deities, though the exact circumstances of his birth are unknown. For many years, he believed himself to simply be an immortal being, a god of nothing. He didn't appear to have any domains, at least none that he could find. That all changed when, out of boredom, he forged a small double-bladed axe with an eye engraved on it. As soon as it was made, it had power. He called it the Axe of Sahar. As time went on, he experimented with his new power, forging new artifacts and enchanting others. He discovered that he could tap into the domain of other deities and siphon off a small portion of their power, so minuscule that they would never notice yet enough to be a great weapon in the hands of mortals. Sahar found a small following of worshipers and hid them in a secluded part of the world, where he taught him his ways. They grew into a great civilization, albeit one that was hidden away. Eventually, however, a Civil War erupted, with all of the mystical artifacts being used to cause great destruction! Because of this, Sahar was forced to use his personal weapon, his Axe, to destroy them all. He took the artifacts and hid them across the world, taking the civilization that was built and hiding it in his Plane, leaving behind a Great Wasteland.

Eventually he became known as the Blacksmith if the gods, crafting weapons for them. He then began looking over mortal blacksmiths.
Plane: Lu, a place of wonder and beauty where Sahar's chosen may reside if they so choose. It can be seen in the night sky as a purple star. It also contains all the wonders of the ancient civilization that once followed him.
RP Example: Hi, I'm sort of new...

And question: would I be allows to have a god(ess) of imperfections/flaws/fragments, formed from the death of the god(ess) of perfection? The general idea is that (s)he creates this weird cycle where their followers join to face their fears and flaws and then go on to join other gods, while (s)he preys on the flaws of the champions of other gods to seduce them over to their side in order to create this great seething mass of chaos and disrupt everyone's plans. I think it'd be a fun idea, but I don't know if it would be considered OP, or wouldn't fit in with the general themes or established lore or if there's any other issue with it.

OOC: I intend for the Tajiri to be open to anyone who wants to use them for their own plots and characters, if anyone's interested :) I deliberately didn't name any particular patron deity or the like since the disunited nature of the city-states means that they could have many deities competing for worship. I was also wondering, seeing as there's going to be a bunch of new deities bursting on the scene ;) how would people feel about the oldtimer deities having formed a pantheon of sorts? There'd be no 'King of the Gods' or some-such, more of a begrudging agreement that they need to coexist and work together at times.

Name: The Tajiri League
Territory: Eh, a bit of coast and a bit of desert would be ideal (if possible, but I can adapt if needed)?
Population: 6 million
Military: Anywhere from 100,000 – 1 million, varying wildly over time.

Description:
The Tajiri League is a loose confederation of city-states and merchant republics, bound together by a sense of common culture and a series of economic and defensive agreements. In order to defend themselves from expansionist empires, the original Tajiri League was formed between the isolated oases of the desert, the seafarers of the coast, and the Bedouin traders who connected them. Protected by their shared strength from outside aggression, the city-states prospered and grew while the tendrils of their trade routes spread outwards. The success of the League brought its members wealth and prosperity, enticing more cities to join its ranks.

But even if they presented a united face to the world at large, the city-states never once stopped jostling with each other for dominance. Each of them sought to transform the League into their own Empire and bring the other cities into their fold. Mercenary armies came to replace the standing forces of the cities, the soldiers plying their trade for the highest bidder, while spies and assassins lurked within every court. But as the merchants and aristocracy grew rich on the relative peace and open trade of the League, power began to concentrate itself more and more among the wealthy with no regard for the borders of the past. This has helped to contribute to a stark and unequal distribution of wealth within the League – with slaves at the very bottom of the ladder.

Today, the great trading Families pull the strings of the state from behind the scenes while the old aristocracies – or at least those who did not claim a slice of the pie for their own kin – are little more than ceremonial mouthpieces. The most powerful of the Families can dominate entire industries and city-states, lording over their own miniature empires while always looking for an opening to further expand their influence elsewhere. However much of this jostling for power is kept to the shadows, with a code of conduct relegating much of the resulting bloodshed to the poor in the slums rather than the wealthy family members themselves.

#Civapp - Tracking Purposes

Name: Tari Erdove
Appearance: Linky
Personality: Live fast and party young – that was the advice Tari received as a child from her father. An adventurous spirit, Tari is never one to shy away from a challenge when the pay is good, and rails against authority; both of which are features of her personality that have landed her in hot water more often than not. Tari has a very strict order of priorities in her life: herself, herself, and then a little bit further down, her crew. Despite any first impressions, she would go to great lengths to help those whom she considers her family.

Bio: Raised in the Tajiri city of Rinza, Tari’s parents were always working hard to make ends meet while she was growing up. While Tari’s father had once been a formidable sailor, a wound had kept him grounded and relegated to poor-paying work at the docks. At no older than 10, Tari found herself stealing from stalls in the market and the deep pockets of passing merchants. At first, the trinkets that she managed to lift was hardly enough to get by – but the young girl quickly discovered that she had a gift for acquiring what wasn’t originally hers.

Tari enjoyed the excitement of the hunt and the getaway, and began to make a name for herself in all of the wrong crowds. It wasn’t long before she was making more money from performing odd-jobs for the local theives’ guild than her father had ever brought home on his own. But Tari was restless and ambitious, becoming increasingly tired of handing over her hard-fought prizes for what she knew was a fraction of their value. All her life, Tari had lived from day-to-day while she scampered in the dirt, all because money was so hard to come by. Even despite her clear skills as a thief, she found herself relegated to small time work in the city, when she knew that she could be accomplishing so much more. It was with this self-confidence and arrogance that Tari decided to really make a name for herself. In order to pull herself closer to her ambitions, she would have to accomplish something so audacious that nobody would be able to ignore her. She would have to pull off a heist of truly grandiose proportions.

She would have to steal from a God, and she knew just the target.

In an age long forgotten, the Goddess Seona granted her blessing to a drawven trader. The young dwarf, bold and ambitious, intended to use a lighter-than-air craft to overturn the traditional markets – but found that the technology was just a few short lives before its time. Regardless, in admiration for the mortal’s tenacity, Seona imbued his vessel with some of her magic so that it could find its own home in the sky. The dwarven trader would come to make a fortune. He died as the head of a dynasty that would last for generations, but his prized possession – the flying cog itself – was set aside in his will as an offering to Seona. The craft would sit proudly within the Goddess’ plane, until Tari decided to take it for herself.

And it is for that deed that Tari’s name is whispered in taverns throughout the League. Some brush it aside as hogwash, without a nugget of truth, while others know better – for where else could Tari have gotten her vessel if not the realm of a God? But what none can deny, is that today Tari is captain of the fastest vessel in mortal hands, and a damn fine thief and smuggler for anyone willing to pay her price.

Name: The Mamaro, or Marble Men
Appearance: The Mamaro are tall, beautiful, albino humanoids.
Description: As the world came into being and Æurielle first arose, she quickly set out on her first project- the Mamaro. She intended these people to be her chosen ones, a perfect race of followers to carry out her glory to the world at large. On this task she spent her early life without rest. For thirty years she sculpted the torso from marble, forty for the legs and arms. Ninety years for the hands, and an additional hundred for the face. When these two-hundred and thirty years had passed, she gave life to her creations. It was revealed to her horror that her creations were mere automatons without passion, love, or emotion.

Æurielle banished the Mamaro to the far north, where they live out their days as recluses. Legends haunt the peasants and tribes of the frost-bitten tundra about a people white as snow with hearts as black as tar, sometimes appearing to steal away the children of villagers and animals of nomads for reasons unknown.

Name: The Exodites
Appearance: The Exodites are a humanoid race possessing the lower-body and horns of an Ibex, and upper-body of an elf.
Description: Shaken by her first failed attempt at creating life, Æurielle searched for a solution to give her creations emotions. She soon came across a simple desert ibex tending to its family and was moved by the love possible in such a simple animal. She harvested the ibex family and infused their essence into a carefully-crafted golden statue of a elf, producing the first of her new race. Pleased with this creation, Æurielle granted it the name Opados, and spread its kind throughout her plane of Ohros. Here they multiplied and flourished, becoming great artists, musicians, and playwrights.

In due time, however, they began to talk among themselves, seeing the great works they had created and divine bodies they inhabited, and began to believe themselves better than Æurielle herself. One of them, Klemenis, led a revolt against Æurielle, but was quickly overthrown. In punishment, Æurielle cursed the Opados' beautiful bodies with the Ibex's horns and legs, casting them down unto the mortal plane, declaring them the Exodites.

Now living within the Mortal plane, the Exodites have largely retreated back to god worship, mourning the once-favored position they once held in Æurielle's realm. Some, scorned, have abandoned Æurielle and now worship other gods, while others believe that, one day, a prophet will lead them to becoming Æurielle's chosen people once more. Overall, the Exodites today are an artistic, headstrong, and passionate people, supposedly feeling emotions far stronger than most other races. Most are intensely superstitious, though some maintain the anti-theistic positions of their forefathers, believing themselves to be far superior to any deity.

Name: Seraphon
Appearance: Image
Description: Vengeful constructs crafted from solidified star magic, the Seraphon are a result of the Star Father's warped sanity. From the submerged ruins of Quel'drassil, the restless spirits of murdered High Elves still wandered about, their disembodied minds cracked and warped. As the Star Father looked upon them, he concocted an idea in his mind. The waves beneath the ruins pulsed with star magic as Celestios crafted an entirely new force with soulcraft. Creating their bodies from solidified star magic and stone, Celestios then bound the souls of the most restless Elves to the inviolable sorcerous constructs, resulting in the Seraphon. The silent ghosts rebuilt Fuaran Rionnag into a silent parody of its former self, and to this day, thousands upon thousands of the Seraphon stand silent vigil over the waveswept ruins of their homeland just like in life. Occasionally, thousands of Seraphon would march across the sea floor to assault coastal settlements. Those who bore witness to their attacks and survived tell of faceless spirit machines wielding glimmering swords and axes that incinerated whoever they struck. Fists and hammers crushed skulls and bones, and relentless soul fire turned people to ashes. The Seraphon, when begged for mercy, would strangely relent from their target, however. Such unthinkable behaviour in the Seraphon's part is the only reason why some have lived to tell the tale.

There'd be no 'King of the Gods' or some-such, more of a begrudging agreement that they need to coexist and work together at times.

Deity Application

Name: Nearmorn: The Fallen God, the Crippled Deity, the One-Eyed One, the Fragmented, the Eternally Cursed, the Humbled

Appearance: Nearmorn has no set appearance, but always appears as a twisted mockery of beauty tailored to whoever they appear to. Indeed, when talking to multiple people Nearmorn will appear differently to each of them - always just far enough from beauty to be repulsive. Commonly, their forms are hunchbacked, twisted and pocked with sores and boils and wrapped in filthy rags. Despite this, the Nearmorn is most easily identified by their eyes - one is always milky and glassed-over while the other is unnervingly bright with intelligence, and almost too green to be natural.

Domain: Imperfection; flaws

Secondary Domain: Despair, helplessness, loss, mortality, humility, self-improvement, hope

Alignment: True Neutral

Description: Nearmorn was once Terinea, the god of perfection, and a deity unchallenged by all but the most arrogant or foolhardy - and they were perfectly willing to let others know that. In hindsight, it would be obvious that the god of perfection's greatest weakness would be vanity, but at the time Terinea noticed nothing as they created a host of enemies who wished them dead, or humbled. Their first hint of the conspiracy against them was when the first blade dug into immortal flesh and they were cast down from the pedestal they had once preened on.

And so Terinea was shattered into thirteen fragments, none of which had the power to challenge even the most inconsequential god. Where Terinea had once boasted beauty sufficient to bring any mortal to their knees they were now repulsive, shunned by all. Their churches were abandoned almost overnight, their champions murdered, their power wiped from the mortal world as they watched helplessly. Without power, influence or position, Terinea changed their name to Nearmorn and fled from the attention of the other gods, hiding in the mortal world as they searched for their domain.

It took them millennia, dwelling in the shadows on the fringe of mortal society, shunned and scorned, but Nearmorn finally found their domain once more: in a corrupt and decadent church to Æurielle, behind the basement shrine of a hidden cult, through the noose of a gallows, the fragments of that which were Nearmorn slipped into the realm which was theirs, met and became one once more. A god was reborn from the fragments of its death, but what was left behind would never be the same as before. It had lost its strength, its grace and its influence, but in return gained other things: clarity, patience and a deep understanding of the mortals which inhabited the world. Understanding and more: a hint of empathy.

And so Nearmorn became what it is today - the god of imperfection. Of flaws. Of mortality, and everything that comes with that title: hopes crushed, dreams never attained, skills not sharp enough to overcome today's challenges. They have never sought out churches, nor fervor or religion, and even those wretched civilisations which dot their realm know their name only as whispered legend. For Nearmon, their disciples are the artists who burn their failed works, the soldiers who find their skills just short of their needs, the widow whose tears are unanswered by the world. Their prayers are the failures they make, the mistakes they commit, the hopes and dreams dashed and the loss and pain which mortals must live by. And more: where the artist improves on his failure, the soldier learns a new trick to avoid being blindsided and the widow steels herself, there too can be found the songs of praise to Nearmorn.

As such, Nearmorn does not tend to bestow their power into any particular champion. Instead, they invest into dozens - hundreds - of disparate individuals, giving them a push here, a nudge there, shepherding the most flawed - those with the most room for improvement - until they attract the attention of another god, at which point Nearmorn slides back into the shadows and searches for new mortals who require their blessing. It may seem a circumspect way of going about things but Nearmorn never have had and never will have the concentrated power of the other gods, and should they attract enough attention from the others they might discover Nearmorn's origin.

That is a secret Nearmorn has hidden well from the world for millennia: they have no intention of revealing it now.

Plane: Neamorn's plane is, like the god itself, fragmented. While Neamorn most often resides within the largest, and most isolated, portion, it is merely one of hundreds roaming the mortal world, the planes of other gods and the void between these worlds. As such, creatures and mortals from all of these realms have found themselves within Neamorn's domain without their knowledge and malformed monstrosities roam the twisted plains, crooked and pocked mountains and seething forests, occasionally terrorising the few ragged civilisations scattered throughout the plane. Neamorn takes a personal interest in each and every mortal, beast and construct which enters their realm, often guiding them into the embrace of another god - often without the other god realising.

So would the father of giants/God of the north men be OK as a character.

Another reboot, nice. I might make a character if I have time and have a good idea for a character and a story arc.
As is usually courteous, I'd ask that you credit my original RP, since large chunks of the OP are copied and pasted from it :p

Side note, I'm down for Ragnor being in the pantheon. Think it could be interesting to have a bit of a gap between the old and new deities. Also, character app.

Name: Rolvak Minersk
Appearance: https://orig00.deviantart.net/6119/f/20 ... 7pwk16.jpg

Personality: Some would call him honourable, chivalrous and a stalwart protector of the downtrodden. Others prefer to describe him as painfully naïve, unnaturally optimistic and almost permanently fitted with a stick up his rear. Rolvak is almost the picture perfect stereotypical protector of justice, never hesitating in the face of danger, always working to help those around him and doing his utmost to ignore any grey areas as best he can.

Bio:
Most of Rolvak’s past is unknown. On a day like any other, he came to the main temple of Ragnor in the capital of the Imperium. Nameless, kinless but with a fierce, burning determination raging inside. There he pledged his life to the Order of the Flame and began his path towards becoming a paladin. From there he was given a new name and a purpose and a place within the brotherhood. As the Order began to train him, he quickly showed exceptional skill and prowess in battle and nearly unmatched enthusiasm to the tales of past heroisms. Many believed he would quickly become a High Paladin or Chaplin of the order, kept in the capital as a beacon of the Order’s teachings. Instead, the moment his training was complete the Lord Paladin himself, head of the Order, sent him to the outskirts of the empire to find and serve where he most needed but away from the almost all the imperium’s sight.

Nice! So then for the pre-existing Pantheon we're looking at:

Ragnor, God of Fire, Power and Hope
Seona, Goddess of the Sky and Wealth
Æurielle, Goddess of Inspiration, Love and Obsession
They-who-bring-Light-in-the-Dark, God of Knowledge and Freedom

How do you guys want to roll with the thing? I'm picturing it as more of a 'Theistic League of Nations' than anything else - essentially a mechanism for the Gods to work out arguments and conflicts before they escalate too far.

Rygondria wrote:So would the father of giants/God of the north men be OK as a character.

Not the OP, but what would a God of the North Men be capable of - out of curiosity? :) Is he just the patron deity for a particular race/civilisation?

Aza'gorod and Celestios would both be part of the Pantheon, though Celestios would be much more distant.
