Red

Things had become a bit of a blur for Red as he faded in and out of consciousness. For a brief period, he thought that he was going to wind up dead because of his own miscalculation. In his delusional state, he couldn't help but feel a bit of relief at the thought of him no longer being a part of the living world. It seemed like life had been constantly punching him in the gut every step of his life, between his abusive upbringing with a mother who didn't seem to ever love him, to going through hell growing up in the training facility, and then eventually losing the four other people in his life that he could've actually considered family. Even now, he felt like his life was nothing more than being a prisoner without the orange jumpsuit as his every move was put under scrutiny. So when he felt himself slowly sink into the black abyss, he welcomed it. However, before he could fully give into it, he heard a familiar, albeit annoying, voice speak out to him.

"Come on Kid, I didn't save your ass just for you to go off a blow it up later."

The unmistakable New York accent of Quick Shot had appeared out of nowhere, accompanied with the smug bastard's face. Even on the verge of death, Red still wanted to reach out and sock him right in the jaw. The guy was nothing more than a pain in his ass...But still, he was someone who had actually given a damn about him. Try as he might, Red couldn't help but look up to him. Almost as soon as Red thought this, he swore he saw the image of Quick Shot's head grin before suddenly turning much softer, his voice matching the expression.

"Besides, we both know you've still got a job to do before you call it quits. So how about we wake up and go be a hero, eh?"

At that last word, light suddenly began to return to him, as he slowly opened his eyes to see the stars above him. At first, he thought that he had indeed died and somehow had mistakenly made his way into heaven. However, the sound of familiar voices made it clear that he was still in the land of the living. More specifically, it was Boy Wonder's. And to further reinforce the fact that he was alive, he couldn't help but feel pissed off knowing that the guy was probably showing off somewhere.

"...Kick... ass... Roy..."

These were the only words he could manage to mutter out, the pain in his lungs preventing any further speaking. He could tell he was pretty messed up, likely suffering internal damage. Even after seemingly being brought back from the dead at his mentor's request, Red struggled to maintain consciousness. Had it not been for the sound of a definitely feminine voice, Red would've likely gone back to the void.

"Not in your current state, handsome."

These words made him reconsider if he had indeed actually died, as the figure of a blonde girl above him slowly made it into his vision. Unable to either speak or move, Red could only look up through squinted eyes before suddenly becoming blinded by a flashing green light. Unable to protest, Red resigned to letting whatever was happening unfold.

After a few seconds, however, he suddenly began to feel the sensation of warmth. It began in his chest, but it soon began to work its way throughout his body. Red could only compare it to drinking a cup of hot coffee on a cold winter day, as the feeling was certainly not unpleasant. No, instead Red began to feel the life return to him. The pain in his chest seemed to gradually disappear, and the feeling in his fingers and toes suddenly returned to him.

After several seconds of this, Red began to feel normal again, albeit with the feeling that he had gotten hit by a truck. Red allowed this to continue as he continued to pick up the sounds of battle somewhere in the distance. He could swear he heard something that sounded like a bat, but he wasn't too confident in his hearing abilities yet so he disregarded it.

Eventually, the flashing light disappeared, and shortly after so did the girl who he was still unsure whether or not had called him handsome. Red was unable to call out for her, forced to watch her run off to where he assumed the rest of the fighting was still going on. Red knew he needed to be there, even if he felt like shit.

With a considerable amount of effort almost made Red pass out again, he managed to slowly get up on his feet. His arms ands legs felt heavy, like he'd just done four hours of a full body workout and then went into the ring with a professional boxer. Still, he was up, and that's what counted.

Glancing down at himself, he noticed that his clothes had been burnt in in several location. Luckily for him, they seemed to still cover enough to keep him from accidently becoming a sexual predator, but he couldn't help but notice that a draft was coming up into a certain region, a sensation he was not very keen on receiving.

He was about to start limping his way towards the sounds of the fight when he suddenly heard the sound of someone mumbling nearby. Thinking it was a threat, Red quickly turned around to face the new threat, causing himself a lot of pain in the process. This worry was not needed, as it turned out, since the source of the mumblings came from what appeared to be a still unconscious girl. Red recognized her as the girl Roy had been speaking to when he had made his...dramatic entry. It was odd, since he remembered this girl looking much more banged up prior to him passing out. Perhaps the girl from earlier had done...whatever she had done to Red to this girl as well.

Red looked around. There was nobody else around, but that didn't mean it was safe yet, especially for someone who wasn't even conscious yet. He knew he couldn't leave this girl alone, but nor could he have them sit back and wait for someone to get at them while they were still weakened. They'd need to get back to where everyone else that was still around was at, even if that's where all the trouble was at.

"Don't ever say I'm not a gentlemen," Red muttered before hobbling over to where the girl was laying down. He stood there, unsure of how he was going to exactly do. Should he put her over his shoulder? Carry her in his arms? Fireman's carry? Drag her? Between not knowing what would be the least awkward position as well as what he could even physically do at the moment, he was stuck at a crossroads before letting out a frustrated groan.

"If I get slapped for it, I get slapped for it."

Bending down, he placed one armed where the back of the girls knees were and the other around her upper back. With a grunt, he managed to pick her up, waiting a few seconds to ensure he wasn't going to drop her before slowly beginning to carry her towards where all the noise was still coming from.

Christ, I look like a guy carrying his newly to their friggin' honeymoon, Red thought for a brief moment before shaking his head in an effort to get the idea out of his mind. He didn't have time to think of things like that. Sure, he had those...feelings like any other guy his age would have, but he had much bigger issues to worry about like busting drug dealers and kidnappers. However, when he suddenly felt the warm breath of the girl tickle his neck, he couldn't help but almost jump at the sensation.

"I am a vigilante. I beat up bad guys for a living. I am a vigilante. I beat up bad guys for a living. I am a vigilante. I beat up bad guys for a living..."

Red forced himself to concentrate on these words as he slowly made his way back to where the source of the noise was. He noticed it had died down significantly, likely meaning the end of whatever had been happening prior. He was about to allow a sigh of relief to escape him when he suddenly noticed a streak of light shoot towards the island. He cursed out loud, wondering what the hell was happening now, before the light suddenly stopped in the air above where the rest of the teens were at. This light turned out to be a woman, one that looked very much pissed off.

"Someone. Explain. Now."

Several people began to talk at once, some giving an answer to the women in the sky, others not so much. A common word, or rather name, that he heard was none other than Roy's. Red rolled his eyes at that, knowing full well that Boy Wonder was probably going to get all of the credit for all of this. His eyes ceased rolling, however, when his eyes spotted the remains of something very notable on the ground next to the group. Red couldn't help but raise his voice in confusion, undoubtedly startling the others who had yet to notice him.

"Is that a friggin' bat?!"

On Wonder Island:

As soon as Nathan started to inch into the woman's view, a voice rang out. Listening intently, for fear someone was calling him out, he almost laughed as the ragtag group from the party argued with each other. Without a common enemy, they were realizing that most of them were strangers. Nathan too looked around warily, well aware he had exposed his powers. Cringing at the thought of his parents finding him here, he tried to focus more on the conversation.

"Roy's sound leadership, huh? Yeah, I agree, it was pretty sound up to the point where Roy went off and abandoned us to go flirt with a girl, AGAIN! If Roy had been helping us in that time he spent flirting with that girl, we may have been finished with this shitstorm by now!"

Nathan had to push down a flash of anger as he realized the stupid man had been flirting during the fight, although he wasn't really surprised.

Others came out to discuss Roy's leadership, none really answering the woman's question. Nathan had to bite his tongue, not quite ready to speak as much as he wanted to. Only the magician from before seemed to remember her question, and he was secretly glad he wasn't the one who had to explain to her what happened. Carter asked another question though, and that's when Nathan decided to step in.

"We join a team, don't we?" he asked, then rethought himself. He probably didn't want to show he knew it was a test. "I mean, like, um, we make one. We did work really well tonight, even if some of us got distracted by a pretty face," he continued pointedly. "And we did the job. Yeah. So, we would make a great team."

After finishing his spiel, he cleared his throat uncomfortably, not used to being the center of attention, and not wanting to continue to be one. Luckily, the students' and heroes' attention were drawn to Red, who was staring in shock and horror at the giant bat. Nathan sighed, but still hoped people remembered what he said and he wouldn't have to repeat it.

San Diego
Park In-hyun

Park was so much happier in her time as a child rather than NOT as a child, to be frank. Though the fact that an anti-vampire hunters are available and hunting the vampires like her father, dhampirs like herself, and those who sympathized with vampires like her mother. So basically three combinations composed of three people. Enough talking to herself, as she looked to the streets. And to the alleyways. There aren't a lot of people but thugs...and some suspicious men. Those men...aren't quite thuggish-looking. In fact, seems weird. Closer look, as she put herself in a lower position from the building she was on, confirmed the suspicions.

"Nice positions, gentlemen," she said it. Enough for the men downstairs to heard about it. The human thugs, they ran away. The vampire thugs, however, pulled their knives. "What you got here, sweetheart?" they chuckled. "Oh, I'm not sweetheart. But those blood...how much you stole it?" and which is when they bared their fangs. "Well, nice fangs."

"It's too bad you all just converted."

She threw a flashbang. It blinded them for a moment, and without hesitation, she dropped down and stuck her blade on one of them, to his heart. Right away, she fought the other two, who, despite their blindness, managed to put a hell of a fight, the blade she took was put on the other's eye, put him to temporary disorientation. She punched the other one, remarkably well and put two bullets into his head. Two special bullets, as a matter of fact. The survivor, the sole one, was interrogated. She found out they just established some small-scale trades with the small-scale criminals for the blood, drugs, and mercenary jobs. Small-scales, too.

She needs to escape. And she better hurry, those cops are on the way. Not to mention the superhumans, superheroes, and vigilantes...

Casimir felt quite pleased when Kirisvala spoke up to back up what he said about Mars being behind organizing their adventure. Although he hoped this wouldn't be interpreted as throwing Mars under the bus by the superwoman, whom he now recollected as being called Naja. What caught Casimir off guard was Kirisvala letting out a heartfelt statement about how she did consider their ragtag group a team. He was not particularly fond of working with other people but her sincerity did make him think about how well everyone did their job. That definitely meant at least something. This nice feeling contrasted with the astonishment he had when she asked who Roy was but immediately he thought there's no way she could have known who he was.

"He's that shady looking dude in all black next the blonde girl in purple. I think he's like Mars' best friend or something," he whispered to her during the time some other people where taking their turn talking to Naja.

Just as he finished responding to her the same guy he scolded deciding to bring up a completely random point about what happens next. Goddammit guy! Naja was probably just going to respond. Why'd you have to bring up such a deep question now! , thought Casimir his face transforming to a tired frown. He didn't have time get angrier since another one of the combatants came over carrying the girl Roy rescued. He was quite amused by his shock from looking at the man-bat. Jeez, he should have taken a look at that thing when it was putting up a fight, he thought with a smirk crossing his face.

Another person spoke up about them joining a team or something else ridiculous. He had a point when he brought up them working well together but what he didn't have point in was bringing what was clearly the Roy-flirting thing. Goddammit! Does no one listen to me! Dammit!, Casimir slowly began to think to himself, realizing how ridiculous he must look with his face constantly changing into such drastic expressions. His head swinging across to whoever was talking wasn't really helping either.

"We're gonna be in such deep shit," he quietly murmured to himself crossing his arms to prepare for Naja's incoming admonishment.

Somewhere in the Canadian Wilderness

As Yierneg flew back to his home, he silently wiped away his illusion, his full form appearing in all its glory. He was high enough that no one would see him, even if they were out. As he got closer and closer to his cabin, there were less roads and less cars, only serving to remind him of his isolation. He wished that he would somehow be discovered, for his hope of being out in the world to become reality, but he fiercely batted away those thoughts. Such things were not for him to think of, for then the possibility would only become more and more tantalizing.

He closed his eyes and forced himself to think about other things. His magic training, for one, was going spectacular...ly slow. He had mastered one spell, the illusion one. He was failing at everything else! And for a royal prince of an empire like Jith's? Failure was foreign, scary, and, in his mind, impossible! Yet he couldn't even master a simple levitation spell!

Yierneg kept his eyes closed, letting the wind slide around him and into his wings. He let himself feel the air rushing by, the coldness surprising him. He could feel his feathers fluttering in the wind, the whoosh of his wings with every flap. He could control the air, to propel him faster or higher, of course. All Loshiak learned that from a young age; it was as simple to him as speaking was. But he didn't want to go faster, he wanted to slow down, and really enjoy the moment, as he did every week. It was his way of unwinding, his way of calming down. He always wished he could do it more often, but he couldn't risk being discovered. He couldn't have another incident so soon after today's.

He touched down on the ground outside his cabin, causing quite a bit of noise as different animals fled. He collapsed immediately into the bed, which was quite large by human standards but very small by Loshiak. He drifted off to sleep slowly, still thinking about the spells he had yet to master.

Yierneg opened his eyes quickly, a familiar smell filling his nostrils. It was a certain type of mustiness, mixed with just some fresh air from the wind forced into the room. It was his family's courtroom! And there, in the center, his brother, Rjoneb, stood, talking to a small, almost dwarfish Loshiak.

"Our mages are closing in on him. He continues to draw magical energy from the great Thol's dimension, although he's using very little. I suspect he's on to us. We've narrowed it down to five star systems. We should've had him by now, but something's interfering with the trail. All of our options have brought us to dead ends. I suspect we'll have to explore those systems manually."

Yierneg gaped in horror at the Loshiak's words, his eyes widening in fear. His brother nodded, sending him away, just as another man entered the drafty room. Yierneg's surprise suddenly increased, turning to an inescapable fear. His other brother, Jlenob, stood in front of the doorway, his shadow large and foreboding on the ground in front of him.

"We've started priming the fleet. There's more than enough fuel to explore all of them. We'll use all of it, to find him. We should be able to launch within the next two or three months. We'll find him within a year."

They continued discussing their plans, but Yirneg still couldn't believe what he was seeing! His brothers were looking for him, using the full force of the Loshiak! That was hundreds of thousands of his people looking for him! As he gaped at his odds, he glanced up at his family portrait, his young self showing a mischievous smile. But he noticed something distinctly off about his father's face, and when he flew up to investigate, he saw words inscribed over it. They couldn't possible be on his father's face in the actual portrait on Jith; no Loshiak would dare vandalize it. He squinted his eyes, reading the small red ink.

They were coordinates! But they weren't for space, they were on Earth! Yierneg memorized them, knowing instinctively they were important, before fading out of his dream. He woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily. And then, he smiles, for he finally had something to do other than magic.

Wonder Island
A flurry of conversation erupted after people seemed at first hesitant to answer Naja's question. The super-heroine stood a bit stoically, seemingly slightly less angry than at first, and maybe even a bit intrigued. Roy was a bit surprised and annoyed when he was brought into the conversation, especially him having talked to Yoshi. This was unfortunately common for Roy, every time he talked to a girl his own age he was accused of flirting. Then Carter started talking about a team and him being leader, and Roy shook his head, "Hey man, I didn't ask to a "leader" here, it wasn't my intention and I certainly didn't ask all of you to follow me." He said his tone a little sharp. He heard Casimir echoing his concern about them being a team, and other voices collided together in a bit of a frenzy. Some people talked about happened, he noticed Mars in particular get a bit red in the face as Casimir and Kirisvala praised his leadership. He hadn't been introduced to those two yet, but he was impressed by their willingness to vouch for Mars like that.

But then this nonsense about forming a team was brought up again and Roy rolled his eyes. He barely knew these people but some of them seemed so trigger happy to become heroes. Someone made a good point that this incident needed to be investigated, but Roy had spent most of his career on a team he wasn't exactly looking for another one. He was about to speak up, and join the chatter again when suddenly Naja finally spoke up.

"Enough" She said, calmly but firmly and everyone suddenly quieted and turned to listen to her. "What you did here was reckless, dangerous, and incredibly irresponsible considering your ages and lack of experience." She told them, her tone an admonishing one. "However... What you did here tonight is nothing short of impressive. You are all clearly talented prospective heroes. It seems some of you have proposed the idea of being a team, maybe even working together to discover what exactly happened here tonight. This is risky, and it will certainly be controversial... but I think it might be a good idea."

"What?!" Roy asked, shocked by Naja's response, that was the last thing he expected her to say. "You really want us to form a team? Don't you remember what happened here, with the Wonder Warriors? We can't just run into each other and suddenly decide to be a team."

Naja looked at Roy thoughtfully and the young Nightshade couldn't exactly read the emotions on her face. Before she could reply however Roy heard another voice.

"I think it's a good idea." Mars said from the crowd of teens. Roy turned his head in surprise, Mars hadn't said anything yet but the young genius had a determined look on his face. "I know tonight wasn't supposed to happen, and maybe we made some mistakes along the way, but we accomplished something pretty cool together." He continued, stepping forward to address everyone. "I've wanted to help people for a long time, I've wanted to be a hero. But I don't want to do that alone anymore. I know a lot of us don't know each other well, but we have the chance to really make a difference if we work together, I don't want to throw that away." He said sincerely, and Roy saw a decent number of people in the group nodding along in agreement.

Roy sighed, realizing he probably wasn't going to be able to stop this. "Well, if you all are really going to do this, I'm in. Someone needs to keep Mars out of trouble." Mars blushed a little at that response, but smiled in gratitude. Naja smiled as well, she had this look in her eye that Roy hadn't seen from her in a while, not since the Justice Queens had disbanded anyway.

"For those of you who are interested, this venture will not be a free for all like tonight was." The reptilian hero told them sternly. "There's going to be structure and rules, otherwise this will never work. There's a lot to do if we want this to happen, so those interested should come here tomorrow at 1:00 PM. There will be a lot we need to discuss to get this off the ground. But for now go rest, your parents might be worried about you and this is going to be a crime scene very soon." With that the group started to disperse, and Naja started to think about what she was getting into.

July 4th, Wonder Island, 10:00 AM

"Come on Mars, keep your guard up, you'll be too easy to beat if I can just clock you on the head."

Mars had just been knocked onto the floor, proving the validity of Roy's claim. The two were practicing hand to hand combat in Wonder Island's training facility, though it was more that Roy was teaching Mars basic skills. For the past two weeks Mars had spent much of his time fixing and renovating Wonder Island's facilities. He had told his grandparents that he was at space camp, it wasn't very hard to convince them that was true. He felt bad about lying, but he wasn't ready to reveal his secret life just yet.

Roy offered his hand, which was sweaty from their long work out, and pulled Mars to his feet. "Come on, let's shower and get changed." He told his younger friend. "Naja wants to meet with everyone at 12, don't know what she has to talk about though." Mars nodded, since the end of the year party, Roy, Mars, and few others had been staying on the island doing their best to return it to it's former glory. It was to be the new base of their new team, though Mars realized they had yet to name the team. Some thought it might be callus or dangerous to use Wonder Island after what had happened to the Wonder Warriors, but Naja insisted it was the safest place available and Mars was determined he could make it safer. He, Wendy, and Alexis had been working on new security measure for the entire island, and he was confident they wouldn't get caught off guard the way the Wonder Warriors before them did.

"Ya, Naja seems to really be taking to this team supervisor role." Mars said to Roy as they descended down a floor of the Team's training tower towards the showers. "There's still some work I want to do before the meeting though. There's this room in the basement of the main tower that I haven't been able to open yet. It's been bugging me." Roy smiled at that, "Always the perfectionist huh? Well fine just don't be late, you know how annoying Naja can be about showing up on time and meeting deadlines." He said to his friend as they each stepped into a shower.

When Mars was clean, he changed into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, the shirt had the words "Los Angeles Stars" on it. He headed out of the building on the west side of the island and went towards the center, where the largest building sat. It was impressive, with large glass windows surrounded by metal frames. The building was old, but the team had been doing their best to clean away the overgrown shrubbery and wildlife that had taken to the unoccupied island over the year and Mars was doing work on the infrastructure of the building itself. He walked into the lobby, pushing open the large glass doors to get inside, and headed down a discrete set of stairs in the far left corner. There he was met with his nemesis, an electronic metal door that required a pass-code to enter. Mars had been trying to run an algorithm to determine the code, but that was taking far too long so he decided to just try to manually by-pass the access code. Taking of the cover of the security panel, he began working on overriding the security and after a frustrating hour of work he finally managed to break the code, forcing the metal door to retract. When Mars looked inside he saw a surprisingly large room. Though it was poorly lit, there was a great deal of stuff inside it. Newspaper front pages covered walls all of them seemingly highlighting escapades of the Wonder Twins. There was also a self filled of random objects. Mars picked up a strange red orb, that when he looked inside appeared to have some kind of energy force in it, swirling around like a tornado. He put that down carefully, moving his attention away from the shelf as a box nearby caught his attention. It was filled with photographs of people he didn't recognized, but he assumed they were the Wonder Warriors at some point. There were 8 people in the photo, standing together and smiling outside the main tower that Mars now occupied. Seeing those smiling faces, Mars was suddenly filled with sadness. Thinking about what had happened to them, Mars always just thought of the Wonder Warriors as a part of history, but being here reminded him they were real people, with families and lives. Lives that were taken away by criminals who wanted people to be scared and hopeless.

Mars' sudden surge of anger was curtailed by a voice calling out from above. "Mars! Come on you're going to be late!" It was Roy, and Mars reluctantly left the secret room and headed up toward the second floor, that was currently serving as the team's meeting room. It was basically a nice living room, with a few large couches in the formation of an open rectangle. The couches were facing a large tv screen that hung in front of a glass coffee table that was at the center of the room.

Mars saw Roy sitting on the couch, and Frost Bite was standing off in the corner, she was still refusing to show her identity to everyone. Though Mars noticed her glaring fairly fiercely at him. That made him uncomfortable and he sat next to Roy on the middle couch, trying to ignore Frost Bite for now. Naja stood in front of the TV, currently waiting patiently, but clearly expecting people to show up for the meeting on time.

Not long after Mars had walked into the meeting room of the Wonder Warriors base, someone else followed suit, a girl with familiar pink hair and physical characteristics that were very clearly not those of a human being. She was currently wearing a slightly modified yellow sundress that reached slightly above her knees, held up at the shoulders through press studs and sporting a pattern of flowers that, while superficially similar to some species found on Earth, did not actually match any known Earth flower. The neckline showed off the peculiar crystal pattern that was just below her neck, and most of the smaller crystal formations on her body were visible as well, except for the ones on her back and the one on her forehead, which was covered up by her bangs.

During the past two weeks, Kirisvala had done various things of importance for this new stage in her life. First and foremost, of course, was the lengthy call he had with his caretakers, the Hadrian couple that had served as her surrogate parents after she escaped to New Adai. Fortunately for her, the two older Hadrians had proved to be surprisingly understanding with the girl and her situation, partly because of the open-mindedness that had led them to become pioneers in the first place, and partly due to their own interests as well. Once they knew that she would have a place to stay in San Diego for free and that a senior superheroine would be looking after her, the deal was more or less sealed, and Kirisvala was very grateful for that.

Of course, that wasn't the only thing she did. Between picking up her stuff from the hotel where she was supposed to stay before the team arrangement came up, getting some other things that she needed and helping however she could with the renovation of the Wonder Warriors' old facilities, the two weeks had been fairly hectic. But one of the things she had done the most was without a doubt reading. She had been reading tons in order to learn more about the human world, and in fact, that was exactly what she had been doing as she walked into the meeting room, her face practically buried in a National Geographic magazine. Sitting on the central couch right next to Mars and on the other side of Roy, she used her tail to turn the page and remained silent for a few more moments as she read, before suddenly raising her head and looking around.

"Mornin', boys!" The Hadrian girl said cheerfully to Mars and Roy with a beaming smile on her face after noticing they were there. "Mornin' Naja!" She greeted afterwards, looking at the reptilian woman. "Am I early? There's not a lot of us here yet." She questioned. Continuing to look around, she quickly spotting Frostbite in her corner of the room and smiled at her as well. "Mornin', Purple Girl!"

Down on an underground laboratory-slash-workshop that was located below one of the many buildings that dotted Wonder Island, the sound of mechanical clanks, whirring machines and all sorts of beeps and boops could be heard since early morning, blissfully far enough from the island's inhabited buildings that it did not disturb anyone during their sleep. Occasionally, humming or outright singing would come from the laboratory as well, matching periods where the intensity of the other noises either picked up or dropped. This continued almost until noon, when the meeting with Naja was scheduled to happen.

"Aaand that's a wrap." The blonde girl said as she finished adjusting a few pieces on her pet project, wiping her forehead with her hand, out of habit and not out of necessity as she didn't even sweat. In front of her and attached to various wires and cables was what appeared to be a metallic torso of about her size and far thicker. Between upgrading Wonder Island's security systems and moving her stuff from her house to the Wonder Warriors base (after convincing her parents that she was going to a space camp of course, an idea she shamelessly ripped off of Mars), she had been working on building herself what was basically a mech warrior, and various other body parts could be seen scattered around the lab. Mars hated her for her disorganized behavior, since they had to share the same workspace, but she liked to pretend she didn't hear his complaints.

After running a few tests on the machine, Alexis happened to glance at a nearby clock and realized that it was almost 12 already. "Crap, I'm going to be late!" She shouted as she hastily shut off the machine and left the laboratory without cleaning up first, running at a dead sprint straight towards the meeting room without stopping for a second. While most humans would have been pretty winded from that, she was still pretty full of energy as she dashed through the door, her oil-stained white tank-top being a pretty solid clue of where she had been, along with the electronic gauntlet she wore, the wrench on her hand and the safety goggles on her forehead.

"I'm sorry I got caught up working on-!" She began, before noticing that there weren't a lot of people there yet. Immediately, the girl let out a sigh of relief. "...I guess I'm not as late as I thought, then?" She asked, before walking over to the couch left of Roy, Mars and Kirisvala and plopping down. She was about to complain about her bad habit of not setting up alarms, but she was interrupted by a rather cheerful greeting.

"Mornin', Alexis!" Kirisvala spoke, and the blonde immediately returned a grin.

"Morning, Kiris! Still reading about the big cats down in Africa I see." Alexis responded, calling the Hadrian as she'd told everyone to call her now that they were all friends and teammates.

Carter Graystone
Rolling around at the speed of sound

Carter was having fun of his own.

Instead of going into a lab or a library or a gym, Carter decided to do something else and do parkour around the buildings. Turns out, aeromancy and parkour make for a good match. Helps you get over those tricky walls and jumps you would need an extra inch to clear otherwise. It helped take off his mind off the family stress that had recently come up.

He had recently embarked on a lengthy call with his parents explaining that he was, indeed, fine after the skirmish, and he went through the tricky business of revealing his powers. At first, his mother and stepfather didn't believe him, pointing out that, yes, he had never shown his power in sixteen years, and simply laughed if off as a joke. It had taken forty five minutes of convincing to even get them to at least let Carter demonstrate his powers, and when he got home, it was the first task at hand. After finally realizing that yes, Carter did have powers, it took another three days to convince them to let him stay at Wonder Island. One week after the initial skirmish, he said his goodbyes, packed his bags, and headed to Wonder Island.

Since then he had been training relentlessly in the gym, as well as doing parkour around the buildings. He kept worrying about his parents, wondering if this was gonna tear their family apart. He had lost so many families before, he didn't want to lose this one.

Carter then looked at his watch. "Shit! I'm gonna be late!" he yelped aloud in the middle of a jump and ended up crashing shin-first right into rock he was trying to leap. He swore and rubbed his shin, before sprinting as fast he could to the doors and into the building. He quickly sought out the living room and dashed in, realizing that, no, he was not late, unless only four people joined the new team. He then became aware that he was wearing a hoodie and jeans. Not the most superhero-y. He quickly sat down on a couch, and began to wait, a painful process for someone with ADHD.

Mike Mathews
Wonder Island

It had been roughly 2 weeks since the prison break and the confrontation with the inmates on Wonder Island. When Naja first appeared and everyone began talking about making a team, Mike was still too dazed to pay it much mind. Instead, he focused more on keeping still and eventually getting some medical help. It wasn't until after a quick hospitalization that he came across his invite to the team. Surprise would be an understatement for how he felt. For one thing, Mike didn’t see his actions as very ‘heroic’. Useful, yes, but not heroic. He took two cheap shots, practically stabbed someone, then went on to get KO’d himself for not being careful enough. Ontop of this though, Mike was more surprised that they were forming a team. Sure, they fought well enough and quite a few had arguable training, but the whole thing seemed crazy to him. Mike would be one of the first people to state his distaste for the role heroes play in society, but that didn’t mean he disliked them individually, there were still a crazy brave few, determined to protect others. To him, the only problem was when they got too publicity hungry or the people became too reliant on them. Being offered a position as a hero though, that was something Mike never saw coming, and admittedly, a small part of him was giddy at the idea of running around saving lives, on the other hand though, was his parents.

Ever since he was young, his parents had been fiercely overprotective of him and after Wonder Island, it seemed to only worsen. After a short nap in the hospital the day after the fight, Mike woke to find both by his side going through their fourth teary tissue box and trying to call some healing powered friend of the family. Non-too surprisingly, Mike wasted no time leaving the hospital after that. When he got the offer though, he wasn’t sure if his parents would try to stop him or cheer him on, what was worse, he didn’t know which option he disliked more. He eventually wound up venting on his uncle who, non-too surprisingly, responded mostly in the form of sarcasm and disinterest but eventually dished out his own view. To him, the world revolved around the acts of heroes, and the chance to see the inner workings was a good opportunity for Mike. Considering this and his own mindset, Mike eventually decided to join the newfound team. Interestingly, his parents ended up more confused than concerned, constantly flipping between pride and worry as their child seemed to follow in their own dangerous footsteps.

From then on, Mike had done his part to help with renovations where he could and just generally keep out of his house until finally moving in. Age and the recent battle had both taken their tolls on the island, so there wasn’t any shortage of work. It wasn’t exactly exhilarating but it was a good chance to get out and push himself a bit, mostly in the form of supporting a wall or two while foundations were replaced. Today was slightly different though, the renovations were done on the most part and Naja had called them all in for an early meeting. On that end, Mike began to rush his pace, so far he had felt Naja to be a bit more terrifying than the media had him believing. And for that reason, being late didn’t exactly seem like the best option for his health. ‘And yet…’ Mike thought to himself as he entered the main lobby.

Pausing in front of a semi-reflective wall, Mike tried to take a quick look at himself. He still felt out of place walking around wearing his ‘uniform’. It wasn’t much more than biker armour beneath a jacket and jeans, far from some of the flashier options but also a bit limited. The idea of wearing something a little stronger was comforting sure, but walking around wearing layers of armour felt restricting, and while leather was strong and light, it just wasn’t happening. Ever. Hence the middle ground. Apart from that, the only difference in how he usually looked was a small, dark cylinder attached to his right leg. Figuring that a pop bottle wouldn’t always be there to save the day, Mike went looking for something a bit better and eventually came across a retractable baton. Or rather, he got his uncle to get him one. Again, not the flashiest or even best option, but hopefully a good place to start. ‘So here I am’ he thought to himself after straightening his jacket one last time. ‘An idiot in Kevlar, with a stick. What could go wrong?’ and with that, he continued on his way towards the meeting area.

“For the record.” He said as he entered “I did not break the door.” Already there was a handful of people gathered around the room. “Heya all” He called out while going up the stairs before having one thing take over his train of thought, ‘don’t stare at the tank top, don’t stare at the tank top, don’t stare at the…’ covering up his distraction with a quick cough, he made his way towards the nearest free couch. “Ice queen” he said, nodding a small greeting to the ever-stoic Frost Bite along the way before taking a place at the table next to Carter. 'At least I'm not the only one going for the normal style' he thought to himself cheerfully. Realising that most of team was still yet to arrive, Mike leaned back and tried to relax a bit. “So then” He began “Anyone have any epiphanies on the name front?”

Carter Graystone
"Wasn't that a Christian Festival?"

Carter had mostly been distracted with internal dilemmas and familial issues when Mike had come in. He hadn't even seen him come in, and to not only hear him speak right next to him but to have someone right next to him without him even noticing, it freaked the living daylights out of him.

He leaped out of his chair with a massive jump, knocking it over in the process and whirled around to face...a kid in motorcycle gear. "Smooth moves, ex-lax."he thought to himself. His ears turned red as he picked the chair back up and straightened it before plopping back down in it and tried to work his head around what he had just said. Epiphany? Wasn't that a Christian festival? he had no idea what an epiphany was outside of Christian holidays, but based on the term "name front" he could figure out enough that he was asking what the others' names were. He turned to the boy and answered his question.

"My name? Name's Carter, I know it's a stupid name but bear with me here. What's yours?"

On Wonder Island

Nathan exited the party uncontrollably giddy, unable to wipe a wide smile off of his face. His suspicions had been right! The whole fight was staged, and he had passed a test to become a part of a super team! They were sent home by Naja, as he had learned the reptilian superwoman's name was, to tell their parents what had happened. Seeing as how Nathan's parent's were in hiding ever since they tried to kill him, and that he too, was technically in hiding from them, that wasn't really an option.

They were instructed to show back up the next day, and begin their work on renovating the island. Nathan should've been helping with its security, but the tech people were much better working alone. Instead, he explored the former superhero headquarters. He didn't really have any other reason besides curiosity, but he also wanted to find energy sources to fill him up. He had come up with the idea during the two weeks since the party that it was stupid to leave himself defenseless; he should always have his tank as full as he can get it.

He found nothing in the decrepit and broken-down campus, however. He wanted to ask one of the techno guys (and girls) if there was such a thing as a self-powered generator, that he could draw energy from whenever he needed, but he figured they had their hands full and he shouldn't bother them unless it was necessary.

Nathan passed by the area where the party had been, and reminisced about his heroic acts while walking for the center tower, where Naja had requested a meeting. He heard the distant sounds of fighting nearby, and knew that Roy was probably sparring with someone. Nathan should've started doing that as well, honing his fighting skills, but the only professional heroes who could help him were Naja, Frost Bite, and Roy, and he wasn't keen on learning to fight from any of them.

He entered the meeting room. Naja and Frost Bite were already there, and so were Roy, Mars, Kiris, Alexis, Carter, and Mike. He looked around, wondering if he was late, and then leaned against the wall next to the doorway, not wanting to sit.

Somewhere in the Canadian Wilderness

After waking up from his dream, Yierneg immediately packed up everything he had, which meant only things he had brought from Jith. His talismans, spellbooks, and a handy bag to keep them all in. He also wrote down the coordinates he had memorized, bringing that with him as well. He had to leave the cabin, where he had been staying for so long. It wasn't safe for him there, especially with his brothers so hot on his trail. As he prepared to leave, he glanced back mournfully at the cabin, before taking off.

He had looked up on the google where the coordinates led to. They went to some coffee shop in the Midwest of the US, although he couldn't be sure why he was being led there. It took him almost a week to fly there and find the place. It was one of those aggravatingly small towns, and he was sure he passed by it multiple times in his search.

He cast his illusion spell and touched down just outside the town, deciding to walk to the coffee shop. Upon entering, he was surprised to see it full of customers, talking and laughing. He tried introducing himself to them and asking questions, but they all were ignoring him, seemingly unaware of his presence.

After an hour of trying with every person—even the cashiers ignored him—he angrily stomped his hoof on the ground. His illusion showed him stomping his feet, which was much quieter. Defeated but refusing to show it, he calmly left the store and revealed his true form, prepared to fly away. He glanced back and could've sworn one of the patrons was smiling mischievously at him. His suspicions were confirmed when she waved at him, and slowly faded out of existence. It wasn't just her either; the whole town around him had disappeared into desert.

Shocked and confused, Yierneg picked up the only noticable object in the entire area where the town had been: a small stone, black in color but glowing a strange purple-red. Upon touching it, the town once again materialized around him, but he could no longer see the desert in the distance. Instead, a fresh salty breeze washed over his face.

"Welcome!" a voice declared. "What took you so long?"

The girl with the tank top chuckled at Carter's antics and the brief conversation between him and Mike, shaking her head. "Carter, I'm pretty sure Mike was just asking if we have any ideas for what we're going to call our team. Besides, don't you think we all know each other plenty already? No need to keep introducing ourselves after two weeks, and we went to school together before that." She told the boy, a friendly smile on her face as always. A thoughtful expression replaced it as she turned to Mike, however.

"And... I don't really have any ideas myself. I mean, how do superheroes name their teams? Do they just... spout random ideas until someone says something that everyone likes? Oh and please, let's not call ourselves the 'San Diego whatevers', that's just lame." She commented, before looking around to see if anyone else had anything better to say on the matter.

As she looked around, though, what Alexis noticed was another familiar boy, just leaning against the doorway. "Oh, hey there Nathan. Why aren't you coming in? Going for that cool, mysterious boy look?" The blonde asked playfully, making a funny voice at the end to further show she was joking.

It turned out that the group wasn't going to be in deep shit after all. In fact, the super heroine seemed to be quite impressed with their groups' effort. Casimir couldn't even believe he agreed to part of the team despite rejecting the idea earlier. Once he got home, Casimir intensely recalled the events of the island to his sister while they went to celebrate at a buffet. It was necessary since the fight had thoroughly drained him far more than he'd liked. While they were eating, he broke the news that he planned to join the team and move in at their base.

It took some convincing but by the end of the night he was able to persuade her plus she seemed happy that he was finally trying to make friends. Casimir didn't really know how long he wanted to be in the team, given that he had been planning to move back to his home town after graduation. He guessed it wouldn't really hurt to try it out for the summer.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The beginning of July he packed his stuff in two duffel bags and his costume in a third and went off to the team's base. It seemed like everyone who was there was doing their own thing to repair the place so he decided to pitch in a little. Walking in front of the main building's entrance he closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and sent out a signal to all insects within the base to disperse immediately. Except for the moths. They could stay.

He spent the next four days going to each room cleaning all the debris while using an ant colony he spared to help him clean all of the smaller rubbish. Talking to everyone else that was there was pretty daunting. So far he'd only participated in some small talk with Kiris and Mars and everyone else seemed too new for him. Casimir feared the day when he'd have to tell them he was already an amateur superhero. It's not that he dreaded they would reveal his identity to enemies but more like he didn't want to know what his reputation was outside of his home town. There he was beloved and adored but he wondered sometimes if this rang true elsewhere. Unfortunately, videos of his fights with the mutants where online and they could be pretty gory to say the least. Videos of his fights with gangs were online too but they were inconsequential because they looked like nothing more than something you'd find in World Star.

His train of thought was interrupted by a sudden ringing coming from his phone. Grabbing it from his pocket, he looked at the message about the scheduled meeting and proceeded to put away the broom he was cleaning with. Casimir made his way to the meeting room where he could hear some of his new "teammates" chatting. Trying not to attract attention, he walked past the Nathan guy leaning on the door way insticntivlly Casimir averted his face from making eye contact. Seeing that everyone was already looking comfortable, Casimir decided to sit at the edge of the couch where he'd hope his presence wouldn't be immediately noticed.

“Ok, lets see if that patch I put in last night is working.” Wendy said as her “body” floated through the digital space that was the wonder tower defense system.

Ever since that faithful night Wendy had been living on the island with the others. It had been relatively easy for her to move to the island, as it wasn’t the first time she had disappeared from a foster home. Sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night, she only had a few meager belongings and a limited change of clothes.
Almost immediately she set about fixing the islands defenses and security system with Mars and Alexis. And boy did it need a lot of work. While it might have been cutting edge 20 years ago, the systems age had definitely shown itself when she had first interacted with it. Weaving through the gaping holes in the code had been child’s play for her. She’d put herself in charge of the software upgrades, as she had the easiest time interacting with the code. Every day, when she wasn’t eating, sleeping, or being used to mop the floor of the gym during combat training, she was working her way through the system codes of the complex. So far, the three of them had made the island impregnable to physical outside attack, Wendy wouldn’t be satisfied with the cyber aspect until she could hack into it.

“So far so good.” She said as she prodded and tested the firewall. “Given a couple more weeks maybe I’ll be able too… shirt.” She muttered as she noticed the time on the system clock. Disconnecting from the mainframe, she raced down to the common room.

“Sorry I’m late.” She said, noticing several other members of the team were already in attendance. “All the archaic coding in the system takes a lot of time to clean out.”

Much to his relief, the heroes that arrived were taking over and going to put the criminals back where they belonged. Naja briefly told them how dumb it was to engage super-criminals with little-to-no prior combat experience, but she also commended that they managed to work together. She even suggested that if they wanted to continue down this path, that she can work something out. At first he was iffy on the idea of becoming a superhero, but he recalled that he just received unstable powers that he has no idea how to use properly or even safely. So he figured that he'd give it a try if for no other reason than to get his powers under control, and after that he'd decide if he really wanted to be an actual superhero.

But first things were first, he had to explain his situation. Explaining it to his friends would be easier another day, but if he was going to go through with this, there was no way he was going to be able to keep his secret. He waited for about half an hour for things to calm down before he approached Naja. Telling the whole story would take far too long, but he figured that since he was legally a minor, she would have to talk to his parents about doing this.

His parents! How was he going to explain this? He relaxed when he remembered that he was going to blame them if anything went wrong, and they accepted that proposition. There was no doubt that they would let him join the group if he wanted to. Explaining the part about the entire civilization slowly, but surely waking up from an ancient slumber and integrating into humanity under the noses of most people would be a significantly different and likely more difficult task. Something he dreaded as he gave her his address and a good time to show up. By the time all was said and done, it was dark out and he had no worries about flying home. The night sky would keep him hidden assuming he didn't have any more outbursts of fire on the way home.

He silently thanked any deity who listened for his powers deciding to remain silent for the trip as he walked into his home where he was loudly and suddenly greeted by his parents. Of course since he wasn't using his glamour they were curious as to what happened. There was no getting around it. "I have a lot to explain. Please don't interrupt me with questions until I'm done." He said and sat down at the kitchen table with his parents and began to tell his story.

It took about an hour to explain it all, ensuring no detail that he could recall was missed. "...And she's coming by tomorrow at around lunch. We're going to have to do a lot of explaining. And before you ask. Yes, I want to join this group, if for no other reason to make sure I can control my powers. I don't know how long I'll stay after that." He finished and took a drink of water. One's mouth tended to get dry after talking for extended periods, and he was no exception. "The good news is, I wasn't the only non-human."

"I see." His mother responded first. There was no escaping it, their secret was going to be discovered, but it didn't seem to be as big a deal as they first thought. "I suppose there was no getting around it. All secrets are discovered eventually. We will discuss this tomorrow with Naja. And Bael?" She stopped and hugged her son. "I'm so happy you are safe."

His father joined in as well. "Yes. I'm beyond proud of you, but I'm even more happy that you are safe. Go rest. After today you certainly earned it." He said and released his son to his room.

Wyatt took a quick shower before collapsing into his bed. It took no time for exhaustion to take it's toll and the adolescent dragon fell into a deep sleep with some strangely lucid dreams.

The next morning was frantic as his parents debated about how they were going to explain everything. Should they explain every minute detail, or just keep things vague? Should they be in their human forms? Show her what they really looked like right off the bat? It was half an hour before Naja was slated to arrive and Wyatt had just woken up to his parents stressing out over it. "Bael!" They both said at almost a shout. His father decided to speak first. "Your mother and I were discussing what was going to happen today and... We do not know how to progress. You have the most experience with human superheroes, what do you recommend?"

Wyatt's freshly woken brain was not in the best state for answering questions. So he decided to just give a vague answer. "Just tell her about anything she asks." He shrugged and went to the refrigerator to grab something to eat, grabbing a bagel and some cream cheese. "Just don't talk over eachother. She doesn't like that." He explained remembering what happened the prior night.

Naja arrived just at the hour turned and the Da'Chataka family welcomed their guest. The heroine wasn't nearly as off put by their appearance as they were expecting. Wyatt stuck around just to help explain things better in the event of a miscommunication. The spell his parents used to speak English didn't translate metaphors very well, and humans were quite fond of them. to Wyatt's shock, Naja took the whole thing very well, being understanding about their situation and even promising to keep their secret. She explained that Wyatt could be passed off as one of the people who undergo a physical change when their powers are unlocked, thus preserving their secret a little while longer, and even promised that she would help them figure out a more long term solution when the time to stop hiding came around.

After all the explaining was done, she told Wyatt to arrive back at Wonder Island in about two weeks if he was still interested.

He was.

July 4th, Wonder Island

For the first time ever. Wyatt didn't bother with a glamour as he flew over the city in the middle of the day. There was more than a single person who gave him an odd look as he flew over all the traffic, but he had to get used to it. He discovered over the few week of time that he had that his powers only worked in his true form rather than his human one. Which was fine as he planned to use his dragon-like appearance as his superhero persona anyways. Upon landing, he saw that he wasn't the first one to arrive, and that several more of the heroes in training were already talking with each other.

He wasn't an outgoing person. Figuring that if someone wanted to speak to him, they'd come to him while he found a place to sit while waiting for the day to begin. He wondered how nervous everyone else was, because he was more than a little antsy. Several times in the past few weeks he had tried to practice with his powers which seemed to have a mind of their own. Just when he thought he figured something out, he nearly smashed, burned, or knocked something over that wasn't supposed to be, which led to him getting frustrated. Despite their best efforts, his parents couldn't help him much. It didn't take long for them to agree that he should wait until he could practice somewhere without having to worry about the risk of setting the woods on fire.

As much as he tried to avoid it, he couldn't help but think about what his superhero name was going to be. The thug from the previous night had called him 'Smaug' after the dragon from Lord of the Rings. He might have kept the name were he not concerned with the most powerful humans on the planet: Lawyers.

I carefully recorded the energy flow around the island and drew it on a satellite image map I had printed. How we are going to use the facility and the event unfolding here might change the ley nexuses in the future, but I was sure I could predict it with enough data. So far I have recorded the flow on each cardinal points for the last two weeks, and they looked like they had stabilized enough. I would start designing the circle that night.

Two weeks have passed since that incident with the escaped inmates. Naja had come and listened to our little cacophony and she decided that we were working good enough as a team. Then she proposed us to actually make a team. That was, honestly, quite unexpected. She told us to return to our homes and talked about it to our parents. Some, I had heard, had a hard time explaining it to their family and asking for their permission. Me? That brawl with Batface was just another Wednesday for the Zairi. Still make a weird conversation with my parents though. I guess even if you fight dark wizards for your living not everyday you see a man mutated into an ugly, gigantic were-bat.

My parents agreed for me to join the team, my father thought that it might be a good chance for me to train myself to face an actual crisis. I spent the first two days cataloging my inventories before I moved them from my labs, not to mention the large machines I could only move after the renovations is finished. So I helped occasionally when one of the tech guys or anyone else needed a hand. Wendy, Alexis, and Mars were upgrading and patching up the physical and cyber defenses of the Island. Supposedly I was the one to set up the "magical" defenses. It was harder than what they think, but I could do it. Just need to finish mapping up the energy flows around and through the island. After I finished the design I would ask the other to help me plant the wires for the giant sigil I planned for the island.

I checked my watch and saw that it was already half past ten. Naja told us to meet her this morning. I rolled the maps and put it back on my rucksack along with my glasses. Naja wouldn't like it if I was late, and I was quite sure that I was. I ran as quickly as I could, but it was quite a walk from the northern edge of the island to the main building. I walked past the bare concrete of the few remnants that yet to be renovated and the glasses and steel of the main building. I entered it and hurried towards the meeting room. I saw that some of the other guys had arrived and Naja was waiting there. Damn, I hope I was not late.

"Hello everyone!" I greeted them and sat myself near the door. "I hope I'm not late, am I?"

Mike Mathews
Wonder Island

“Alexis, shush. Carter, please. Never change.” Trying his best to stifle a laugh and keep a semi straight face, Mike encouraged Carter’s antics as best he could. Something about the constant 50/50 chance of a surprise coming from his responses made everything just a little bit more interesting. After Alexis’ words though, Mike started to realise that the room was quickly filling up as more teammates entered. ‘Huh, weird to think of them as teammates’ he thought to himself, it wasn’t all that long ago that they were schoolmates at best, but one superpowered fight later and here they were.

Over the last two weeks, he couldn’t help but let his mind run loose with thoughts about who could do what and how. Before the fight, he didn’t even know half of them, let alone their powers. Admittedly, some of them like Wendy, Mars and Alexis weren’t exactly fighters on their own, though each had their own quirks. ‘One being giant death robots’ he thought with more than a little concern. Roy still seemed like captain douche to Mike, but he was willing to admit that the guy could probably do the best in an open fight. Kiri was still too new for him to really understand, though he knew how Hadrians could always be useful, even without magic music. Meanwhile, Casamir had already shown himself to be, hands down, the best pest controller of all time and was also able to give a solid punch but Mike was happy enough not having to deal with bug infestations. Wyatt was a shapeshifter, ‘or something like that’. Truth be told, Mike didn’t really understand his power. Every time someone explained it to him, something just felt a bit off, that didn’t mean he was about to complain about having a flying, fire breathing, tank on the team. Amir could do magic, and while Mike had no idea what this really meant, he had grounded a giant man-bat with nothing but a fancy trumpet, so no point doubting him. Carter was untouchable when he was running, which could have any number of uses. Frostbite was cold and Naja was still, quite frankly, a terrifying force of nature to him. Looking around the room, his thoughts kept rolling for a while, soon enough he was trying to plan how he could fit in, where he might be at a disadvantage and what weaknesses he could help cover. In the end though, all of his ideas and opinions weren’t much more than speculation and guesses made from little he knew. Going from the high octave fight and joining a super hero team, to two weeks of construction work had left him more than a little anxious, what he wanted something a bit more energetic and impactful. It was then he remembered Nathan standing by the doorway and a crazy idea popped into his head.

“Hey Nathan” Figuring there was still some time before the rest of the team made it, he decided to pitch his plan “Your power is absorbing energy right? How are you with, smallish, mostly fire-less explosions? I’ve been tossing around a few stupid ideas and I think I may have the craziest one ready for a test later.”

Red

"And you're sure you want to do this, Red? You're not always the best when it comes to playing nice with others. I mean I remember the last time I tried partnering you up with someone, and if I remember correctly you left them dangling from the rooftop of an apartment."

"Wasn't my fault you sent someone dumb enough to kick down the door before I was ready and almost getting the both of us killed. If anything, the kid should've thanked me for making sure he wasn't going to find himself in any other near-death situations that night."

A light chuckle.

"I suppose you're right. Still, he didn't stop crying until I cut him down and told me he was hanging up his mask for good after that."

"Not my fault you can't find quality candidates."

"Well then what does that make you?"

Underneath my helmet, Red cracked a small smile.

"The exception."

More chuckling, this time with a bit more volume to it.

"We'll just have to see about that."

Quick Shot's voice suddenly turned quiet.

"I'm just glad to see you're finally opening up, Red. You've needed this."

Red paused, not knowing what to say. After several seconds of silence, he finally replied.

"Yeah."

Red ended the call at that. His previous amusement suddenly disappeared as his guardian's words echoed in his ears. Sure, even he knew that he didn't necessarily...play nice with others. But this was normally because everyone he'd ever been paired up with ended up just getting in the way and almost getting themselves killed in the process. Red didn't want to have to go through that again, so instead he just didn't bother with putting himself in a situation where the only life at risk was his own.

But this was felt...different. While he still had doubts about these people, he couldn't help but admit that they at least seemed to possess enough talent to make up for their lack of experience. Also, his identity was already known to them due to his disguise being shred during the fighting, yet he'd yet to hear of any of them leaking it out to others. This meant that, at least in terms of their character, they could be trusted.

Not to mention I can't let Boy Wonder get too full of himself. Someone's going to have to be there to keep him in line, Red thought as he put his bike into a higher gear as he sped along the highway towards where Wonder Island was. Seeing the place made him instinctively flinch, as while his body had fully healed, the memory of being on Death's doorstep was a bit unsettling. While it hadn't been the first time Red had came knocking, it still wasn't any easier on him to think about. Had it not been for that girl, he doubted he'd be able to enjoy the fresh air like he currently was. At the very least, the incident at least gave him some more insight at just how dangerous of a game he played every time he put on that mask.

Red was so caught up in his thoughts, that he nearly missed his turn towards the island. Cursing out loud, he slammed on his break, drifting around the corner and earning a variety of insults both verbally and physically from other drivers, which he promptly returned with the use of a single finger. Perks of not being an official hero.

At least not yet.

After parking his bike out front, Red made sure to give the massive building a look before entering. It definitely was something impressive to say the least. Certainly better than his apartment, that was for sure. He'd already packed up all of his things and was ready to move out once their initial meetings here were done. He'd thrown an extra pair of clothes into his storage unit on his bike as well as his hygiene utensils in case he needed to stay the night before then, but he was certain that this meeting would just be about getting everyone settled in.

As he walked through the hallways, he noticed several others seemed to have moved in already. They were probably too excited to put on their superhero capes for real to wait, Red thought while rolling his eyes. Still, he couldn't help but appreciate the place, as the massive size on the outside did indeed translate into plenty of room on the inside. It was like living in a hotel where every room was a suite. He couldn't help but feel a bit eager to move into the new place, even if it meant dealing with the others.

Walking through the door to where the meeting was supposed to take place, Red noticed a good portion of the others were already there. Everyone seemed to be casually dressed, which was good as all he had on was his jeans, a plain grey T-shirt on, and his signature leather jacket. His leather cowboy boots clicked across the floor, making his presence known to anyone nearby.

"Hey Nathan, your power is absorbing energy right? How are you with, smallish, mostly fire-less explosions? I’ve been tossing around a few stupid ideas and I think I may have the craziest one ready for a test later.”

Before he knew it, his sarcastic tone filled the room.

"I'd suggest staying away from explosions. They tend to sting a bit."

On Wonder Island

As soon as he leaned against the wall, however, he was noticed.

"Oh, hey there Nathan. Why aren't you coming in? Going for that cool, mysterious boy look?" Alexis said, wiggling her eyebrows jokingly.

He blushed and stood up from the wall, sitting on one of the empty chairs.

"Oh, no," he started, wanting to say something else but unable to come up with something else to talk about.

He merely smiled her way and let her know he enjoyed the joke, although he could feel his cheeks were still warm from thinking about it. More and more people crowded into the room, although it was quite expansive and he didn't feel cramped. He recognized almost all the faces from school, and, thanks to the fight and the two weeks since, he knew all of their names. He sort of wished there were young heroes who had joined the team after them, but he supposed it was better for them to set up the base first.

“Hey Nathan,” Mike sauntered over, an excited look on his face showing that he had thought of something. Nathan considered turning him down immediately, but decided to at least hear him out. “Your power is absorbing energy right? How are you with, smallish, mostly fire-less explosions? I’ve been tossing around a few stupid ideas and I think I may have the craziest one ready for a test later.”

Contemplating the idea Nathan's own excitement grew as he realized how useful that could work. "Yes! I think that we could totally try that! I've been able to absorb kinetic energy before, although I'm not sure exactly of the specifications. I'd have to be very close in order to get the kinetic energy of the object before it explodes, although that might injure me. The flames would actually help me, give me a little boost." He started murmuring to himself, before remembering that Mike was still there. "Oh, yeah. Right. I thought your power was just like hardening stuff. But, yeah. We should totally try playing with some explosions later!"

"I'd suggest staying away from explosions. They tend to sting a bit," a voice said as it entered the room.

Nathan turned to see Red's familiar face, sarcastic as per usual. He bit back a retort of his own, knowing better than to pick a fight with his teammate, although just barely. Imagining what he should've said, he sank back into his seat.

Team Meeting Room
Frost Bite didn't respond at Kiris' greeting, but Mars' seemed happy when Kiris joined them. The two of them had become fast friend's after the end of the year party, though there was obviously a pretty large cultural barrier that needed to be overcome. For example Kiris didn't know a whole lot about Robotics, so explaining what exactly his skills were was a little complicated. Mars watched as the rest of the group filled in and banter ensued between everyone. They had gotten along for the most part so far, and Mars was enjoying feeling part of a team.

Once everyone had arrived and the chatter subsided, Naja cleared her throat and addressed the group. "Hello everyone, I'm glad to see you all getting along. I called this meetings because we have made good progress making this island livable, and an appropriate base for this team to be, however we have to start establishing you as a legitimate team. I've been able to secure a benefactor for you, a hero who is sympathetic to your goals." Roy raised his eyebrow when Naja didn't divulge the name. He didn't like the idea of a secret benefactor for the team, but Naja gave him a calm look that expressed it wasn't a big deal. "You will have all the resources you'll need to ensure you're prepared to face danger." Naja continued, "But now we need to start focusing on the functions of the team. First thing is first, as Mike pointed out, this team needs a name. Being a hero isn't just about fighting crime, it's about being a public figure. You all need a collective name and persona that allows people to recognize you and hopefully, form a positive relationship with your work. This should come from you all, it's an important part of your identity..." She turned her head and saw Mars sitting patiently with his hand in the air. "Uh Mars, you aren't in school, you don't need to raise your hand if you want to speak."

Mars blushed a little bit at that and Roy couldn't help but smirk to his right. "Well, I kind of think I have a name." Mars said, pausing a bit before continuing. "I finally managed to get that secret looking door opened, and it turned out to be a archive of sort. There was a bunch of souvenirs and pictures from the Wonder Warriors' days, and I felt really sad. I realized they were probably just kids like us, I mean, they probably just wanted to do right by people. Then someone killed them, and people mock them by calling their death the young blood massacre. That... well it makes me really mad, and I feel like someone should avenge them. So, why not take back the name? Why not call ourselves the Young Bloods, embrace the Wonder Warriors legacy instead of make fun of it?" Mars got quite towards the end, realizing how passionate he had been speaking, he blushed again as he waited for other people to respond.

Naja frowned, "Mars, your sentiment is persuasive, but that is a huge risk. People will react very strongly to that. It would expose you to scrutiny I'm not sure you're ready for." She told him, though her tone was gentler than before.

"I agree with Naja" Roy said to Mars' right, "It's not our history, we don't have exclusive rights to it. We may see it as honoring them, but others might not." Mars visibly sunk a bit, he had been hoping his friend might agree with him.

"Who cares?" That voice surprised Mars' even more than Roy's. It was Frost Bite's, she spoke from the back corner. Mars didn't really know the circumstance of her joining the team, but she wasn't around very often and he heard a rumor that her presence on the team was not voluntary. "This is our decision, not the media or anyone else's". Frost Bite's voice was muffled from her mask, but it was clearly feminine and a bit higher pitched than one might expect. "Don't pick a name because it's popular or cool, do it because it means something." She said, a bit of edge on her voice that made her sound angry but it wasn't clear about what.

Roy merely rolled his eyes, but Naja spoke next. "Well, seems we need to discuss this, everyone say your piece. No one should stay quite or else you may end up resenting the choice that is made for you."

"Aw, that's just no fun." Alexis said playfully in response to Mike, and then looked in Nathan's direction as he spoke, listening to him... only to realize that he wasn't saying anything other than 'oh no'. Fearing that she might've made him feel embarrassed or out of place, the blonde girl was relieved when she saw him smile approvingly in his direction, returning the gesture with a cheerful grin.

Shortly after that, she noticed Wendy walking into the meeting room. Alexis had been meaning to talk to her to bring up her little 'pet project' and ask for some help in the cybersecurity department, but before she got up from the couch and addressed her, Naja cleared her throat, signaling that it was about time to get the meeting started. Slumping back on her seat, the girl looked in Naja's direction. "Another time it'll be." She thought, and listened to the reptilian woman, twirling the wrench she held in her hand in the meantime.

Amusingly enough, it seemed like the main topic to be discussed during the meeting was precisely the one that Mike had brought up, the name of their team. "Great, just the thing I was waiting for." She thought sarcastically, well aware that she didn't have any helpful suggestions to give on the matter. Precisely because of this, she decided to just sit back and see if the others had any good suggestions, though she dearly hoped that nobody unironically suggested that they call themselves the 'San Diego somethings'. She didn't want to get chewed out by throwing her wrench at someone, after all.

But the suggestion that came afterwards, from Mars of all people, was perhaps more controversial. Taking the name of the massacre that took the lives of most of the Wonder Warriors and various civilians as well? Risky move, like Naja said... but also pretty bold. She liked that. And what better way to kick off the adventure of their lives, than with a bold move like that?

"But I'll keep quiet now. Lord knows I tend to mess up when I'm overexcited." She told herself, a faint smile on her face as she listened quietly.

When she heard that Naja had begun speaking at last, Kirisvala closed her magazine and looked up, noticing that the room was much fuller than it had been when she had greeted Alexis. She was surprised and a little embarrassed, as she realized she might have come across as a little rude by not greeting everyone, but given how the others had been talking pretty amicably before Naja asked for the group's attention, she thought that perhaps they had not noticed or thought nothing of it. Relieved by that thought, she listened to what Naja had to say. She smiled a bit when the heroine praised their work in restoring the headquarters; even if she had been unable to contribute as much as people like Mars, Wendy or Amir, she had still helped out a little with the more mundane tasks and felt proud of her participation. However, the topic soon changed to a more pressing matter.

"A team name...?" The girl silently wondered. While she probably should have guessed that if every other superhero team had one, they would have to as well, the thought never crossed her mind, as she was still getting used to the mechanics that surrounded superheroes and human culture as a whole. In any case, she would've never suspected that it was something as important as Naja stated, which prompted her to pay even more attention.

When Mars began speaking, she found herself very impressed. She obviously didn't entirely follow when he started talking about the Wonder Warriors and the Young Blood Massacre, but she could understand just enough, and more importantly, she could sympathize with the sentiment that Mars was expressing. They had become good friends over the past two weeks, but she realized she still didn't know him that well, since she had thought he wasn't the type to get emotional like that.

After he was done, Kiris listened to Naja and Roy respond, feeling a little sorry for Mars as she noticed that their comments seemed to disappoint him. And then, she was very surprised when Frostbite spoke up for the first time. Her way of expressing herself was a touch too violent, but she had a point. And so, when Naja asked the others to speak up, Kiris was the first to do so, despite the doubts she had about herself.

"Um... I... I don't know the story, so sorry if I say somethin' dumb." She began, hoping not to step on any toes. "I was... I was thinkin' that it's a good name." She stated, immediately continuing as she felt the need to clarify. "I believe... how do you say? I believe Mars' heart is in the right place. And I get that it might be a risky name, but isn't this a risky thing to do? Goin' out and fightin' the bad guys? If we're goin' to start takin' risks to protect other people, I think we might as well get started." She said, looking around nervously as she finished saying her piece.

Carter Graystone

Carter grinned slightly at Mike. "Thanks! Usually whenever I do that, people call me psychotic, so it's nice to know someone actually likes it!" he said in his normal, cheery, slightly joking tone. He sat back down, slightly blushing over his former misinterpretation of Mike's statement. He just watched as the banter among the ragtag heroes flew around, Mike and Nathan's explosion idea and Red's omnipresent sarcasm. Then, the meeting was called to order.

Carter mostly just listened, as Mars, Kiris, Roy, and ol' Frosty Face over there seemed to agree on a single title, despite Naja's objections. Carter mostly just thought over it, turning it over in his head. "Young...Bloods? That sounds pretty cool. It ain't about wether it's "Politically Correct", it's about being symbolic, burying our old memories and representing the new...us.". he decided to speak up.

"I agree." he said, "It isn't about what's "Politically Correct" or what people like, it's about taking our old...shackles and wearing them proudly on our sleeves. Like...Daredevil."
yea bro idk

Luckily Casimir's plan seemed to have worked since no one had noticed him enter the room right away. One by one the rest of the team showed up and even started making conversation to fill in the time. It was cut short though when Naja spoke up to finally let them know what they were meeting up for. The first news of the day was the reveal that Naja secured a benefactor that would fund them but it didn't sit well with Casimir that they were to remain anonymous. Arrangements like that always ended bad in some way or another. Next on the news was choosing the team name and Casimir would be lying if he said that he hadn't already thought of a dozen possible choices.

This would be irrelevant because Mars gave a quite poignant justification for his team name idea: The Young Bloods. Naja and Roy objected and with good reasons too that needed to be considered if Young Bloods would be the team name. Frostbite, Kiris, and Carter all agreed to the name with pretty agreeable reasons as well. Coughing softly into his hand to clear his voice, Casimir raised his voice to speak.

"I'm putting my vote for Young Bloods as well. Let people think what they want. Our actions will win them over eventually."
Just passing by. Please no militarization of borders.

Wyatt stayed quiet as everyone arrived. The conversation quickly turned to the topic of team names; as good a starting point as any. Mars suggested the name 'Young Bloods', a name that he knew carried a lot of weight. Most of it bad, as Naja and the mean looking ice woman made clear. He was rather ambivalent on the name. On one hand it was well known and if the team gained some steam, it would be easy to remember. On the other hand, the baggage the name carried might not be worth the heat they would attract. He didn't plan on staying longer than he had to unless he found it to be something he wanted to do. Violence wasn't something he was fond of, and it concerned him how easy it came to him. It was something that he would need to discuss with his parents if it happened again.

Kiris, the tailed girl he met the other night, didn't seem to know why the Young Bloods name wasn't liked. Might as well try to make a friend. He stepped forward to explain it. "The Young Bloods was the name of the massacre of group of adolescent of heroes called the Wonder Warriors... Who were killed by an extremely notorious super villain group called the Reckoning. Presumably to hamper the hero community by demonstrating the very real risk of being killed doesn't apply to just the adults." He explained. "Personally, I think it might make us a large target. If they see that their most notorious attack is being used as a badge of honor, chances are that they're going to try to come back and prove that they weren't joking. Which is why some are antsy about it. However, at the risk of being looked at like I'm a weirdo. If we don't, then they've won. They've proved that they can do whatever they want and get away with it."

Wendy shook her head as the others voiced their disagreements with Naja and Roy. She knew most of them couldn't understand why drawing more attention to themselves might be a bad thing, after all she couldn't imagine most of them were former thieves and bank robbers like she was. She had been raised that attention wasn't a desirable thing at times, and given that they were still new to all this, she felt this was one of those times.

"Naja's right, you guys." She said. "Not only is this going to get us crucified by the press, public, and other heroes, but this is going to paint a giant bulls eye on our backs for supervillains. Now Mars, Alexis, and I have been doing all we can to fortify this place to keep history from repeating itself, but we still have massive holes in our security system, and most of us aren't ready for a straight up fight yet. We should be trying to stay as low profile as possible."

She turned to address Naja. "Why do we even need a team name anyways. Would it be better to stay as far under the radar as possible?"
