July 18th
San Diego

Once they finished eating the two of them made the short walk to the San Diego Zoo. Seeing as it was late afternoon the zoo was buzzing from activity, however it being a weekday made it so that it was not unbearably crowded. Mars and Kiris headed towards the front gate, both of them remembering the familiar sights from their first mission as a team. Kiris was getting some looks from the people around, some because she was a Hadrian, but more of them were due to her affiliation with the Young Bloods. Mars realized that Kiris was very recognizable, whereas no one would actually realize he was a Young Blood because he was always wearing a combat suit and covering his face.

As they approached the ticket booth, a woman with a clipboard and a headset approached them. She held a big smile on her face that was directed towards Kiris. “Hello I’m Ann, I work in the Zoo’s marketing department. It’s so nice to finally meet you!” She said at first offering her hand to Kiris before realizing that might not be the best idea.

“Oh, hi! Nice to meet you as well Ann! I’m Kirisvala, but just Kiris is fine.” The Hadrian girl replied with her usual enthusiasm, doing a little wave towards the woman instead of taking the handshake, knowing that it wasn’t a great idea to do that with humans. “Why were you lookin’ for us though? Actually, how do you know me?” She asked afterwards, tilting her head. While it was all too obvious to her that people would recognize her easily, something she had pointed out before their first mission (the one in the Zoo, at that!), at the moment she did not consider the media coverage or the impact they might've had on the workers' lives.

“Why you’re a member of the Young Bloods of course! You’ve been all over the news recently.” Ann explained to her. “And of course, we here at the San Diego Zoo hold a special place in our heart for you. Who knows what those criminals would have done if you hadn’t arrived to help.”

The Zoo employee then reached into her pocket. “You and your friend here don’t have to worry about a thing.” She said handing them both a pass with a string around it. “Just wear this around your neck and you won’t need to pay for a thing here at the zoo. And you’ll be able to get backstage access to some of our exhibits. Please enjoy your stay!”

As she walked away Mars turned around in surprise. Wow, I guess being heroes really has perks.

“Thanks for everythin’!” Kirisvala shouted as the woman left, being loud enough to make sure she was heard. And, being a Hadrian, that was quite loud indeed, though not enough to disturb people around them too much. Afterwards, she held up the pass and looked at it, a bright smile on her face.

“I love San Diego! Everyone’s super nice.” She said happily, mostly to herself but also to Mars, as her tail swished from side to side and made circles in the air. Next, she attempted to put on the ticket, frowning a little as the string got stuck on one of her horns but otherwise quite content with Ann’s gift. She watched it dangle from her neck for a moment before turning to her partner in that date. “You must know this place better than me, any idea where to go first?” She asked him with a smile. “I’ll let you lead the way.”

Mars was pleased to see Kiris so happy, noticing that she had a very beautiful smile. “Ya it’s a really nice place to live.” Mars replied to her comment about the city. “I’ve been here all my life. I like the weather, it's pretty calming. I’m glad I can play a part in protecting it now.” He told her as they entered the zoo.

“Well I have been here before, so I can try to get us to the best places.” Mars said at her suggestion that he lead the way. He tried to think of what she might most be interested in. He took into consideration the wildlife of her home planet Adai, Australia, and San Diego before making his decision, and led her a little ways through the zoo before they arrived at a large enclosure. In front of them stood a large rock like structure, but Mars knew that it was likely plastic or some other material. There was a pathway that he led Kiris through and suddenly they were inside, with dimly lit and well air conditioned surroundings. After a minute more of walking they came across the exhibits.

“These are the penguins. They’re fun to watch.” Mars said as they stood before the habitat. Ice covered walls enclosed a circular area that was mostly layered with ice but had an open section of water. A penguin was currently waddling his way towards the edge of the ice before gracefully plopping into the water. “There is open water on the other side that they can swim around in.” Mars explained to Kiris, while the Hadrian girl walked closer, giggling as she observed their behavior.

“They’re funny.” She said, practically gluing her face to the exhibit and watching the penguins intently, in particular one that seemed to have taken an interest in her. Hearing the noises they made, she spoke up again. “I’m goin’ to call them honk-honks!” She decided. The penguin that seemed curious about her walked as close to the alien as it could and made some more noises. Kiris took a moment to clear her throat and honked right back. The routine continued for a few moments, before the penguin turned around waddle back to the rest of its group.

“They’re really polite, too.” The Hadrian girl commented, turning to look at Mars.

Mars chuckled as Kiris became infatuated with the penguins. Her tendency to give earth animals unorthodox names continued with the penguins, and Mars found it to be a very endearing and humorous part of her personality. “Ya they’re pretty fun creatures.” He said as he stood next to her. Then, however, she started imitating their sounds, drawing a few looks from the passing crowd. Mars realized that her ability to immediately recognize and mimic a language might apply to animals too.

“Uh Kiris, did you just talk to that penguin. And if you did, well, what did it say?”

The alien girl nodded. “Yup!” She replied. “It was just introducin’ itself and askin’ if we wanted to take a look at their little show. they don’t come across people who can understand them very often.” She explained, before pointing at the exhibit once more. Most of the penguins present had seemingly organized (with a lot of honking involved, of course), and were currently in the process of starting what appeared to be some sort of complex activity akin to racing, with various penguins sliding across the ice floor, making laps around the exhibit, while several others waddled around or clustered together to act as obstacles.

“Wow, uh Kiris, I think you probably just discovered a new pattern in penguin behavior.” Mars said in a fascinated tone as he watched the display. “I don’t want to ruin our good time here with science talk…. But uh, we should definitely talk about that more later.” He told her. “Anyway, so do you have anything like penguins on your home planet? I realize I don’t know too much about where you grew up. Did you have any pets or animals around where you lived?”

Kirisvala looked up, putting a clawed finger to her chin and thinking for a moment before shaking her head. “Nope! There wasn’t anythin’ like ‘em, that I saw. There might’ve been some animals like ‘em closer to the poles, but I dunno. Adai is a bit hotter than Earth.” She explained. “But! We did have a lot of animals around my family’s estate! Though most of them were wild. I think the only one we really owned was my dad’s flyin’ screech-screech.” She continued. The smile that was on her face as she talked about home suddenly disappeared as she looked down at the ground for a moment, but she quickly shook her head and looked at the penguins’ display, cheering back up fairly quickly.

“But there were lots of big howl-howls, a few of the roar-roars with manes and sting-sting tails, and some others; there were smaller ones too but they didn’t last long. I told you about that time I befriended a big howl-howl patriarch, remember?” She asked, referring to the night Alexis gathered them to play a party game. Waiting for Mars’ answer, she took a moment to honk at the penguins, who were still at it.

Mars was quite interested in learning about her home planet’s environment and climate. However, he noticed the sudden sad look on her face when she discussed her father’s pet. It disappeared very quickly but he was certain he had seen it. He decided to file that away in his mind as something to ask about later.

“Oh ya, I remember that. That was an… interesting night.” He said remembering the semi-fight they'd had. “I only ever had a dog myself, when I was a kid. You probably call those ruff-ruffs right? I named him Spark, he was great.” Mars said, taking out his phone and showing her a picture of him as a child, hugging a yellow lab puppy.

“By the way, they probably have some roar roars with manes here.” He said, smiling at the ridiculous name for a lion that even he was using now. “You want to go see those next? And uh, by the way, what’s a sting sting tail?”

However, rather than answer the questions, Kiris snatched the phone right out of Mars’ hand, though she made sure to be careful not to break or scratch it. “D’awww, you were so cute as a kid!” The girl practically squealed as she observed the picture. “Um, not that you’re not cute anymore...” She added. Then, realizing what she had just said, she blushed and quickly tried to change the subject. “A-anyway, Spark is pretty cute too! I call them bark-barks, though.” She clarified, looking at the image for a few more seconds with a big smile on her face before handing it back.

Mars was surprised when Kiris took his phone, clearly glad she was being careful with it. He was flattered that she was so interested in the picture, and clearly blushed when she called him cute. “Well… thanks.” He said, embarrassed but clearly pleased. “And ya I wish you could have met Spark, you would have really liked him.”

After that, there was moment of awkward silence, which luckily Kiris was able to break.

“Oh, um, sting-stings are those things that crawl around on lots of legs and have big tails with poisonous stingers on them.” She explained, actually answering the latter question now. Before answering the former, though, she turned to the exhibit and watched as the penguins finished their little display before waddling over to her, getting as close as the boundaries of the exhibit would allow. More honking ensued as they appeared to hold a conversation which even caught the attention of all the other visitors of the Zoo currently watching the penguins.

“Oh, we have those on Earth too.” Mars replied to Kiris before watching her engage in another back and forth exchange with the penguins. He was fascinated to see that she was actually holding a conversation with them. Before too long, Kiris turned back to him as the penguins dispersed. “Let’s go see those roar-roars now!” She exclaimed. Once she was done she seemed excited to see the lions, so Mars smiled and nodded.

“Sure thing.” He said as they walked out of the cave like structure and into the open air of the park. They walked for a few minutes until they came across a large pit that stretched across a decent amount of the park. Inside was a large field of grass, where three lions and a few cubs lived. One male was laying around lazily in the shade, while a female busy tending to the cubs. Meanwhile, the other fully grown male lion seemed more active. After a minute or two of watching him, he ran towards the edge of the grass and let out a territorial and proud roar.

“Wow, that one is a bit more fierce than Zoo lions usually are.” Mars commented to Kiris.

Rather than be frightened or even surprised, though, the Hadrian appeared to be more excited than usual, her smile taking on a slight predatory quality as she walked up to the bars that separated the pit from the rest of the Zoo, clasping them with her claws and pressing her face against them. “It’s okay, he’s just tryin’ to tell me who’s boss. But if he wants a roarin’ contest, he’s gettin’ one!” She replied as she tensed up, her tail now suspended in the air motionless.

Then, before Mars could try to dissuade her from responding in kind to the lion, Kirisvala let out a monstrous roar to challenge the beasts of the den, mighty enough to surpass the lion’s own. Needless to say, she also wound up drawing the attention of the crowd this time, some of the Zoo’s visitors frightened and others amused at the Hadrian’s display.

Once she was done asserting her superiority, the alien girl watched as, after a brief period of hesitation, the male lions approached her in a docile manner, while the female stayed back to tend to the cubs. The males allowed Kiris to pet them, which she did in a very careful manner to avoid hurting or upsetting them. “See? You show them who’s in charge here and they start playin’ nice.” She said to Mars.

“Uh Kiris, you’re really not supposed to pet the animals here.” Mars told her gently. He was starting to get worried that they were drawing too much attention to themselves. The Zoo had shown a lot of hospitality but he wasn’t sure how much they would tolerate. He had seen the smile that Kiris got on her face and was bit nervous, having seen that look on her before; usually ended in her grabbing everyone’s attention. Sure enough he had been proven right. A Zoo worker soon rushed over to them, he had a bit of a panicked look on his face.

“Please refrain from touching the animals ma’am. It’s for your own safety and theirs.” He said in a stern tone.

“She didn’t mean any harm from it, sir, I’m sure you can tell she isn’t native to San Diego.” He said in her defense. The worker simply reiterated his warning and then grumbled off. Not wanting there to be too much of a damper on the mood Mars turned back to Kiris. “That was really cool by the way. I’ve never seen someone scare a lion before.”

Needless to say, Kirisvala was a little bit miffed about not being allowed to touch the lions, pouting as she backed away from them, watching them walk back to the rest of their small pride to continue lounging around while Mars talked to the Zoo attendant on her behalf. Hearing the compliment he made her once the employee went away, though, the alien girl smiled.

“I didn’t really scare him, just let him know a Hadrian was around. But thanks!” She replied, before looking around for a little bit. Several people were looking at them, and while some were amused or even excited to see a Young Blood, many others were weirded out and a few even scared, clearly not used to seeing or hearing a Hadrian roar. Feeling rather self-conscious now, Kirisvala looked at Mars, fidgeting with her claws.

“Um, so, is there anythin’ else you’d like to show me here, or should we go now? Maybe it’d be better if we came back another day?” She suggested quietly.

Mars frowned a bit when Kiris suggested that they leave. He knew she was feeling awkward and out of place now. He related to that a lot. Being as intelligent as he was was great but it tended to alienate him from others around him. This was particularly true in school, where he never really fit in with the other kids.

“No Kiris, we shouldn’t leave, there’s still plenty of fun things we can do here.” He told her with a smile as he tried to cheer her up, the Hadrian smiling in response. “I’ve got an idea. Let’s go see the dolphins, with our passes they’ll give us a private tour so it’ll just be the two of us. Come on let’s go!” He said as he led her across the park towards the aquatic animals. Soon they started to see huge pools of water and this was a sign they were getting close.

Mars looked around for a bit until he saw the large arena that was likely the dolphin display. He was, in fact, correct, and after approaching a Zoo staff member at the front of the stadium and showing him their passes, Mars and Kiris were led backstage to the large in-ground pools where the dolphins lived.

“Hi. I’m Kim, the head trainer for the Dolphins.” A woman in a wetsuit said as she approached them. She was a bit surprised by Kiris, but was polite enough not to look shocked by her appearance. “Hey you’re that girl from the news right? The one who helped take down the Weatherman? It’s great to meet you. We didn’t have time to evacuate our animals, so who knows what could have happened to them if you didn’t step in.” She told Kiris with a bright smile. “We all owe you a debt for that, these animals are like family after all.”

In response, the alien girl offered the woman a kind smile. “It’s nothin’. We’re happy to help however we can.” She said warmly. It didn’t take a genius to notice that she was far less enthusiastic with her words than when she had talked to Ann, though someone who hadn’t been there wouldn’t be aware of it. Kim nodded and led them over the pool where a group of four dolphins were swimming around aimlessly.

“Here.” She said gesturing to a nearby bucket filled with small fish. “Feed ‘em one or two of those. They’ll be your best friends.” She told them encouragingly.

Mars hesitated at first before moving towards the fish bucket. The fish was a little slimier than he would have liked, but he didn’t want to embarrass himself in front of Kiris so he didn’t complain. When the dolphins saw him with the fish they all swam over to him, each jockeying to be the one to receive the fish. Mars decided to be fair and threw it up into the air. One determined dolphin jumped above the rest and snatching up the fish. The rest of them dejected swam away, while the victorious fish swam up to the edge of the pool to greet Mars.

Mars chuckled at this, using his hand to pet the creature playfully. “You’re just a big softy aren’t you.” The dolphin responded by splashing water softly towards Mars with his right flipper.

“Hey!” Mars laughed, stepping back a bit to avoid the water.

Meanwhile, rather than take as much of a hands-on approach as she had back at the lion exhibit, Kirisvala decided that she could content herself with sitting on the floor near the pools and looking at Mars as he took one of the fish from the bucket and approached the dolphins. Watching him play with them, she smiled affectionately. It made her feel warm inside to see him smiling and laughing, and she realized she wouldn’t mind just sitting there for a long time, or doing this again sometime. He looked very cute, playing around like that.

And he’s also really nice and carin’ and comfortin’ to be around… The girl caught herself thinking, a slight flush appearing on her cheeks as her mind wandered back to the moment he held her in his arms a week or so ago, though she felt no embarrassment this time, and simply continued smiling, a chuckle escaping her as she saw him try to avoid getting his dress shirt and slacks from getting wet.

Suddenly standing up, she walked up to Mars as he continued to play with the dolphins, approaching him from behind and hugging him tenderly, making sure not to hurt him with her claws. “Keep goin’.” She told him softly, her tail lightly moving from side to side behind her. “Don’t mind me.”

At the moment, she didn’t even seem to mind the fact that Kim was watching them with an amused smile.

Mars was a bit surprised when he felt a presence behind him. It took no time at all, however, to realize it was Kiris, smiling sheepishly as she pulled him into a gentle and meaningful hug.

“Hey there.” He said with a grin, his cheeks a little red as well. He kept petting his new dolphin friend as Kiris had requested, though it soon became apparent to himself that playing with the dolphin was no longer the most pressing thought in his mind. After a little while, he let the dolphin swim off with the others and turned to Kiris, reluctantly breaking their embrace.

“Hey, do you think Alexis planned anything else for us? Or do you think it’s over?” He asked, having to admit that Alexis had actually set up a pretty good date. Kirisvala thought for a few moments, before smiling and shrugging at the boy.

“No idea, but I think we can probably go now.” She said, hesitating for several moments before finally gathering the courage to reach out and hold the back of his hand on the palm of hers, making sure her claws had as little contact with him as possible. “I feel much better now Mars, thank you. But I think it’s time to go somewhere else.” She told him sincerely. He nodded at her and she began walking away from the pools, gently pulling him along.

“Bye, miss Kim!” She shouted at the dolphin trainer, waving enthusiastically at her with her free hand. The Zoo employee waved back and nodded, the same smile from before still on her face.

“What a cute couple!”

Jean-Paul
Phantom Brotherhood, San Diego

"San Diego seems like a new place for me," Jean said, suddenly speaking, to himself. He's currently hovered inside the HQ in San Diego, finishing his meditation. After Warwolf, a group of military contractors swarmed the city in the name of keeping the place in order, the Phantom was never easy on them. Barely, but since Warwolf's attitude and Phantom's differentiate hugely it is a normal thing. Then again Phantom hardly cares or pays attentions with the human things, since they based their actions on those magical and supernatural threats.

Recent movements from the vampires did little to dissuade themselves from them. Some, including him, now paid attentions to the ones who still reside and planning the same thing, albeit more disorganized due to the loss of their HQ, funds, manpower, and resources. Lot weaker, too. Jean-Paul decided to return to his meditation. In time, he will have to emerges himself from the shadows and perhaps jump to whatever chaos in San Diego, magical or not. But not now.

Now is not the time.

Akira Yasunaga
San Diego

Recent event, someone or a group fought off a Warwolf patrol unit. It's enough to be an attention for him, which forced him to shift his focus to them. Not much info on them, not even a name. It is unfortunate, but they know the symbol of these people. "I'll put my focus on them, maybe giving out drones to the neighborhood," he said. He commanded his surveillance drones to the neighborhood, though it will take time to know which is who and who is which.

It was never an easy job. Not with these problems they keep encountered.

Sam Croft/Blizzard
Young Bloods Tower
July 9th, 11AM-ish, Comic Book Standard Time

Underground lab? Only one way to get there... Sam got into the elevator and punched basement, then listened to the hum of the motor as the elevator descended. Huh! The kids don't have hiphop muzak! I woulda thought they'd have fixed everything up the way they like it... The doors opened and Sam took a step forward and looked around.

The engineering laboratory wasn't anything too surprising, all things considered. Machinery of all sorts dotting the place, dozens of computer terminals, a half-finished mech armor in the center of the room, and a very comfortable swiveling chair, currently occupied as the girl Sam was looking for furiously typed away at a computer terminal in what appeared to be an alphabet unknown to man. She quickly spun around on the chair, though, hearing the sound of the mechanical doors opening up.

"Mr. Blizzard, right? What brings you here?" Alexis asked him, not having expected visits, especially not from someone from outside the team.

Sam's gaze drifted around the lab. Most the equipment was out of his speciality and unfamiliar, but the research environment itself was practically home. "Nice lab." He turned to Alexis. "Just Blizzard, please. I'd like to ask a small favor. We don't seem to know too much about Warwolf, especially what they're up to: mercs can make more money overseas, so why are they here? So, Wyatt and I were discussing fixing that, with a little impersonation and infiltration.

"For that, we'll need to find some good Warwolf officers to 'borrow', and then learn enough about them to pretend to be them. That will probably require photos, video, and audio, some from up close. I was thinking we'd need some spy gear: tiny, hidden cameras with zoom lenses and some hidden directional mics. I really liked the radios and trackers you made for the San job, so I was wondering if spy stuff was something you'd be willing to make for another raid. I can pay for it if it's gonna get expensive."

Alexis listened to the adult hero's words, nodding along to them. When he was finished, the girl meditated silently for a few moments. "Hmm... Well, it certainly wouldn't be hard to build, spy gear like that is simpler than what I usually make here, and you're a fellow hero so I don't see an issue. Plus, I can't get picky now that my work is starting to be appreciated." She smiled, turning the swiveling chair around and typing away at her keyboard some more. "I don't need you to pay for it, but if you have the money to afford these things... I wouldn't mind having a little help in procuring some equipment if I need it in the future. If that's okay with you."

Sam returned her smile. "That shouldn't be a problem. I have some... interesting contacts with the government, so I can sometimes get unusual things.

"If you're looking for a challenge, Wyatt and I could think of other features we could use; audio/video recording seemed like enough, but if that would be wasting your skills..." He let it trail off, curious if Alexis could turn down that sort of temptation.

"Oh?" The girl turned around once more. "My skills are never wasted if I'm doing something to help in the pursuit of justice, but if you think you have a challenge for me, I'm all ears." She said with confidence.

Sam twisted his face up as he thought about it. "OK, I got something. To impersonate somebody well enough to fool people who know them, I'd need to copy their mannerisms and voice as close as possible. So, could you get me 10x speed on the camera? That would let me replay the video in super slow motion, to pick up tics they don't even know they have. Very low light video would also be good. And how high can you get the signal-to-noise on a tiny directional mic? That'll be good for learning subtle shifts in intonation, and improved eavesdropping would furnish useful details about their lives that would be hard to learn any other way."

The blonde girl looked up, a thoughtful expression on her face. "Hmm, that's tricky to pull off on such small devices, but it's nothing too hard, I should be able to make everything you need with what I have in here, though I'll have to pause my other projects." She stated, before looking back at Sam. "You don't need them right away, do you? If you can wait at least a couple days for them to be done that would be wonderful. I'd rather not have to rush them."

Sam's head jerked in surprise. "A couple of days! That's incredibly fast! Wow!" After letting the implications sink in, he asked, "Is that your power?"

Alexis grinned at the compliment, and then nodded. "Yeah, you could say that. As far as I can remember, I've always been pretty good with tech stuff. It's half smarts and half intuition, really, but as long as I get to make things that help out my friends and fellow heroes, I don't think the specifics matter too much." She explained. "That's the main thing I have, anyway, smarts and skills with technology. I do have some other... things that other people don't, but I'm not sure I would call them powers. They're more like little quirks that I have, like always being awake." She stated.

Maybe things were focusing on her a bit too much, she thought before continuing. "How about you? Anything you can do other than ice?"

"I do tech stuff too, but I do it the old-fashioned way. It might take me a couple of days just to make schematics for what I asked for, and that's assuming I was familiar with the components I was using." He shook his head, smiling. "That's an amazing gift for a techie. If you asked me before my powers appeared, I might have swapped you." The head-shaking stopped, but his smile remained.

"Mind if I sit down? I was standing talking to Wyatt too, and I had somebody land on me yesterday, so I'm pretty sore."

"Oh, err, sure thing." Alexis said as she briefly looked around, before standing up, grabbing the backrest of her chair and moving it so that it was between herself and Sam, before lightly kicking it towards him. "I, uh, don't really expect guests here most of the time, so I don't tend to keep spare seats around. It's okay though, I spend most of my time on the lab sitting around anyways, I'm not tired."

"Thanks!" Sam grabbed the chair in motion and sat down. "Most of my powers relate to ice and cold, yeah. But that sometimes manifests in odd ways. I see heat and cold now, for instance."

"That's quite interesting." The girl replied with a bit of scientific curiosity in her voice. "So it's less of an unique power that you have and more of a 'theme' of sorts that you have that grants you various abilities related to it, right? I've noticed that seems to be the case with a lot of supers, though that's far from conclusive; I'm often busy working on stuff for the team or enjoying when I'm not, so it's not like I've conducted research on superpowers."

Alexis suddenly looked up. "Anyway, any other requests you want to make, Blizzard? I'm going to be a little busy planning something with the others, but I should have your stuff ready... by the 13th or 14th at the latest, I figure."

Sam perked up. "Planning something? OK. I was thinking of talking to Roy to make sure I wasn't stepping on any toes working with Wyatt, but now it sounds like I should definitely coordinate with him to make sure we're not working at cross purposes." With a groan, he got to his feet again.

"Oh, I wouldn't worry too much about that. We're not planning anything work-related. Just a bit of a social gathering the 17th. Don't tell Wyatt or Mars if you see them, though." Alexis explained. "But yeah, talking to Roy seems like a good idea. If nothing else, he's our leader, more or less, so letting either him or Naja know that you're going to be borrowing Wyatt soon sounds like the proper thing to do." She stated.

"Anyway, I'll see you around, Blizzard." The girl waved him farewell. "Feel free to come pick up your spy gear after Friday; if not, I'll just give it to Wyatt."

"Friday. Thanks muchly!" He returned the wave, turned, and headed for the elevator.

Yoshiro
Wonder Island, San Diego

Yoshiro couldn’t help but smirk at Alexis’ mental response, knowing that the other girl shared her suspicions. However before she could respond, the whole group began to migrate over to a game of truth or dare. The game certainly started off interesting with Elle and Renata, although what had any of them been expecting from a dare? For a moment, the empath felt nervous that the team’s newest member’s efforts at a prank were going to backfire as Renata looked like she was on the verge of exploding. Regardless, Yoshiro couldn’t help but laugh at the hilarious scenes that emerged each time the bottle was spun: from Wyatt’s passionate rendition of Barbie Girl to Red’s suspiciously defensive reaction to the request for his browsing history. But it was Angelica’s dance with Jacob that caught Yoshiro’s eyes the most. As the cold and reserved ice user casually picked out the healer from the crowd, Yoshiro struggled to try and keep a wide smirk from spreading across her features. Glancing towards Alexis, the two girls shared a knowing look as the music began to play.

I knew it! Yoshiro thought gleefully, reaching out once more for Alexis’ thoughts. Alexis, we have to help her somehow. She just looks so happy with him, and she even went and got all dressed up for this. But I don’t know if she’s the kind of person to make a move on her own. The telepath hesitated for a second. Would Angelica really appreciate them trying to set her up? What of they just ended up getting the way and making things awkward? Yoshiro looked once more at Angelica and Jacob, her mind immediately being made up. What kind of a friend would she be if she didn't even try? Even if working with Alexis on this may be like making a deal with the Devil. We’ll have to talk about this later, alright? Before the telepath could hear Alexis’ response, her attention was pulled back to the present as the bottle began to gradually slow on its most recent spin. Friction pulled on it with its inexorable tug, the bottle moving at little more than a crawl before finally coming to rest...pointing straight at her.

The telepath grinned as it was her turn out of the frying pan.

“Truth.” She replied confidently to Renata, the other girl frowning as she clearly had been hoping for her to choose dare instead.

Sorry Renata, but after seeing what Wyatt and you had to go through, I think I’ll have to give that a pass. Yoshiro thought to herself. She always enjoyed playing Truth or Dare, especially with friends. It was as if it allowed everyone to look inside each other’s thoughts and feelings, to see each other’s colours and auras like she could. Even if it was only pretend, only a shadow of the vibrant shades and melodies of the real deal, Yoshiro still relished the opportunity to open herself up to those she trusted. She was always nervous about using her powers, about doing something that she couldn’t take back or betraying the trust of a friend, but within the rules of Truth or Dare, she had nothing to fear. The telepath smiled, taking a sip from a cup of soda as she patiently waited for Renata to make up her mind.

The latina superhero had a mischievous smirk as she finally settled on her question. “So, how many bases have you hit with Red?”

Instantly, Yoshiro’s eyes widened in shock and she coughed on her drink. Raising a hand to her mouth in order to stop herself from simply spitting soda all over the couch, Yoshiro’s figure was shaken by a few quick coughs before she could force the words from her throat.

“WHAT?!” She exclaimed, a look of horror on her face. As the telepath glanced around the room, suddenly feeling the eyes of the rest of the team bearing down on her expectantly, she retreated into her seat as colour began to flood into her cheeks. “I - uh - well…I don’t know.” Yoshiro’s eyes darted down to look at her hands as she fiddled with them nervously. What kind of question was this? Yoshiro hesitated, did she really have to answer? Yes, of course she did. That was the spirit of the game. “I mean, it hadn’t been long since we uh - kissed, so I guess that’s first base. And I mean, I’ve never actually gone fur - ” Yoshiro’s features exploded with colour as she realised that her mouth was running away from her, and she immediately cut herself off. “First base! We’ve only gone to first base!” The girl practically yelled her answer, hoping that doing so would somehow cause her previous words to be forgotten.

Trying to ignore the smirks and looks from the others, Yoshiro quickly leaned forward to spin the bottle, desperately wanting the group’s attention to be somewhere else. She never once even looked in Red’s direction, far too embarrassed even to risk it. The bottle soon came to a stop pointing at Carter, who opted for a dare - probably in an attempt to prove that he could handle it.

“Alright Carter, I dare you to change into a dress, leggings and high heels for the rest of the night.” Yoshiro winked at the other boy, a sly smirk only slightly hiding the colour that lingered in her cheeks. “I think Kiris may have something that would fit you?”

July 18th, San Diego
As they reached the exit of the San Diego Zoo, they were stopped by one of the men working the ticket booth. “Hey, Mars and Kiris right?” The guy asked, and Kiris glanced at him curiously while Mars gave him a strange look.

“Uh, ya?”

“This girl left you this note. Don’t really know why but she just told me to look for someone with horns, so here.” He said, passing the note off to them.

Mars realized Alexis in fact had something more planned for them, this time smiling at her effort as he held it so he and Kiris could read it.

Hey Lovebirds! Hope you’re having fun. Why don’t you head back to the park and relax? I’ve got something set up there that I’m sure you’ll enjoy ;)

Mars couldn’t help but give a small chuckle at how invested Alexis appeared to be in this. Kirisvala, on the other hand, blushed brightly at how she had called them lovebirds in her note. By this point it was very difficult to go and claim that she was wrong, but it was still embarrassing.

“Well, I guess we should head back to the park. We wouldn’t want to disappoint Alexis with how much work she did for this.” He said to Kiris with a smile. The Hadrian returned the smile and nodded, pulling Mars by the hand that she was still holding—how wonderful and completely unexpected, to hold hands with a human boy!—and leading him back to the park, instinctively heading back to the area where she first ran into him.

As they approached the same metal bench from before, they both saw next to it, under the shade cast by the nearby tree, one of those stereotypical red and white checkered picnic blankets, with a basket lying on top of it with a note that read: For Rocket Boy and Magic Girl with love <3 <3

Mars picked up the note from the basket, smiling at Alexis’ thoughtfulness. “Who would have thought techies can be romantics?” He joked.

“So, I guess she wants us to have a picnic right?” Mars asked, looking for a good spot to lay out the blanket. “I’ve never actually been on a picnic before…”

“A what? I don’t think I’ve been on one either.” Kiris replied, clearly unaware of the meaning of the checkered cloth and the basket. She walked over and picked the latter up, curious. “If this is a present, shouldn’t it be covered up?” She asked, picking up a corner of the blanket for a moment. “...Though this doesn’t feel like gift wrapping at all…”

“Uh Kiris… It’s not really a present. We’re supposed to sit on the cloth and the basket probably has food and utensils and things in it.” Mars informed his date, surprised that she wasn’t aware of picnic baskets.

Soon he found a nice flat spot near a pond, where a few ducks were flapping around in the water. The sun was lower in the sky now so there was some nice shade for them to sit under.

“Let’s see what Alexis packed.” Mars said as he opened up the basket. He found several sandwiches, each individually wrapped. The ones filled with meat he assumed were for Kiris. He also found some napkins as well as a few sodas and water bottles.

“Wow this is pretty nice.” Mars said as he offered Kiris her sandwich, which she happily accepted and took his peanut butter and jelly sandwich as well.

“You know Kiris, I’m really happy you joined the team. For all the ups and downs we’ve had, this summer has been the best of my life by far, and you’re a huge part of that. So… thanks.”

Hearing those words, Kirisvala smiled warmly, refraining from sinking her teeth into her sandwich just yet. “I’m… I’m really glad I joined the team too.” She said, somewhat quietly, but with her voice full of emotion. “Being with the team, and especially with you, Mars, it makes me really happy. Happier than I’ve been in… a long time.” She stated. Her smile died down a little towards the end, and she looked up at Mars apprehensively. She didn’t want to ruin the mood by talking about a gloomy subject, but on the other hand… Mars was probably the one person on Earth that she trusted the most, and she really wanted to open up to him.

After a moment of awkward silence, she decided to continue. “I, um, I ran away from home a year ago and fled to New Adai to escape my family.” The Hadrian confessed. “My uncle became the head of the family when I was ten, and things just… things went downhill until I decided to leave.” She explained. “Luckily a couple from New Adai took me in and gave me food, money and a bed without askin’ too many questions, and I’m really thankful for that, but they were always busy with this or that and traveled often, so even though I trust and love them, I didn’t feel like we were really close.”

Mars frowned deeply at Kiris’ revelation. He had suspected that she hadn’t exactly had a great family life, considering she had left home and didn’t seem to have much contact with her home world. “I’m really sorry to hear that Kiris. You deserve a lot better than that.” He assured her.

Suddenly, she looked up at him, smiling brightly once more. “But when I came to San Diego and met you guys, all that changed. Maybe it didn’t happen right away, but spendin’ my time with the team and with you made me feel like I had a family again. That makes me really happy, Mars. I cherish that feelin’, just as much as…” She trailed off for a moment, a shade of pink spreading across her cheeks. “Just as much as I cherish the feelin’ I get when I’m alone with you.”

Mars felt his cheeks heat up as well at Kiris’ admission about spending time with him. He could tell it was heartfelt, and it made him really happy. He felt like it was proof that she reciprocated the feelings he had for her, and found himself inching closer to her as he took in her words.

“I like being alone with you too Kiris. I feel so at ease around you, like the weight of the world has fallen off and we can just relax and have fun. I’ve never felt the way I do about you about anyone else. You’re really special.” He told her, looking into her eyes with a soft gaze of his own.

Mars started to shift closer again, his face inches apart from Kiris’ at this moment. He knew what he really wanted to do, but now the ramifications started pouring into his mind. What if she didn’t actually want this, or if he messed it up and things got awkward? Would this mean they were dating now? All of these rapid thoughts made him hesitate, not yet making the final step.

Suddenly, however, a claw touched his shoulder, bringing him out of his thoughts and back into reality. What he saw made all the difference: from how Kiris was leaning towards him to her longing stare and the way her tail gently coiled around his arm and tugged towards her, it was as if she was inviting him, making it clear that he was not the only one who wanted this to happen. This gave Mars the confidence he needed, and he decided to follow his instincts, raising his hand towards her cheek and leaning in for a soft kiss.

Those moments of anticipation were almost painful for Kirisvala, but when she felt his hand on her face and his lips pressing against hers, all of that disappeared, her tail quickly uncoiling from his arm and flailing frantically for a moment before calming down. Elated, the Hadrian simply closed her eyes and allowed herself to get carried away in the moment, responding in kind to the boy’s tender kiss, forgetting all of her worries, all of her regrets and tragedies. In that single unique, special moment, her thoughts were only of Mars. Her Mars.

After what seemed like forever yet was nowhere near enough, the boy pulled away from her, and Kirisvala opened her eyes, still gazing at him longingly as her mind caught up to what had happened. “Wow…” She mumbled as she raised a hand to her face, carefully putting two clawed fingers to her lips. “That was my first.” She confessed, referring to the kiss they had just shared. Then, she beamed up at Mars. “It was wonderful.”

“It was my first too.” Mars told her softly. “And ya it was amazing.” His cheeks were red and his heart was pounding in his chest. This was very new territory for him, and it was both scary and exciting.

He wasn’t sure what to do next, anything he thought of just seemed awkward after they had shared such a tender moment. So he decided to just carefully take Kiris’ hand, and hold it silently for a little while, the girl understanding his wishes and leaning onto him, softly humming as she enjoyed the moment. Mars thought about how much his life had changed recently, and how lucky he was to have met someone like Kiris. He never thought about the idea that he might fall for an alien, but with Kiris it really just felt like a no brainer.

After their short time of peace he decided to speak up again. “We should probably eat.” He said, remembering that the kiss had actually stopped them from doing so earlier. “We wouldn’t want Alexis’ sandwiches to go to waste after all.” He added with a smile before biting into his PB&J.

Seeing and hearing this, the Hadrian gave a heartfelt laugh. “I had forgotten about that.” She admitted. Looking around, she spotted her meat sandwich on the blanket, realizing she had unconsciously dropped it when Mars kissed her. She picked it up and bit into it. She wasn’t too hungry, but good food should not go to waste.

”Mmm!” She exclaimed, delighted. “This is pretty good! I didn’t know Lexi could cook this well.” The Hadrian stated before continuing to eat her sandwich, going at a much more measured pace than before.

Mars chuckled at that comment, “Ya I guess she is a genius at more than just building robots.” He joked. They then proceeded to finish their small meal in peace, chatting pleasantly amongst themselves. It felt as if a lot of the tension and nervousness between them had melted away. Now that their feelings were in the open, the two of them acted much more comfortably around each other.

“You know, I want to say thanks again for yesterday.” Mars told Kiris, referring to his birthday party. “It was a lot of fun. It seemed like everyone on the team let loose a little, even Frost Bite.” He commented.

“Oh, you’re welcome.” The girl replied. “I wasn't the only one workin’ on that, though. Most of the others pitched in too, includin’ Alexis.” She said, glancing at the blanket and at the basket before letting out a small laugh. “She really goes the extra mile for our sakes, doesn't she?” The Hadrian stated with an amused smile. “And I had a lot of fun too!”

“Ya she really does, Alexis is a great teammate and friend that’s for sure.” Mars agreed. “And I’m glad you had fun too. Yesterday was great, but this is an even better present.” He said smiling brightly.
Eventually it started to get late and having finished eating the young couple packed up the basket and blanket.

“Well, I guess we should head back to the tower right?” Mars asked Kiris once they were finished cleaning up. She nodded and then gently grabbed his shoulder.

”You wouldn't want to be seen goin’ into the island like your usual self, would you?” The girl said before beginning to sing one of her ancient Hadrian spellsongs, her sublime voice hitting one note after another until, suddenly, they disappeared from the park.

Now standing near the entrance of Wonder Island, Kirisvala looked around, confirming their location. “Well, here we are.” She said. Before Mars could reply, she noticed a particular object nearby and pointed at it. “Hey, Mars… do you remember that tree?” She asked.

“Wow, we just teleported!” Mars said, looking around in astonishment. He was aware to some extent that Kiris had this ability, but he had certainly never done it himself.

Then Kiris pulled him out of those thoughts when she asked if he remembered the nearby tree she pointed at. He had a near perfect memory, so he did in fact remember it.

“Uh ya… That’s where we first met. You were hanging out here, and I saw you. I was really fascinated by you…” Mars said, pausing a bit at that thought as he looked at Kiris.

“So… I guess we should go inside right?”

Kiris let out a big yawn and then shook her head. “Not yet.” She replied. “I'm in the mood for an outdoors nap.” She stated, grabbing the picnic blanket and walking up to the tree, laying down the blanket under its shade. Then, she turned around and gave Mars a coy look.

“Will you join me?” She asked him.

“Well…” Mars said, blushing at the sensation. This was clearly very new territory for him.

“Ya, I think I would like that.” He said, waiting for Kiris to sit down before sitting down next to her. He kept a respectful distance at first, before Kiris moved closer to him and gave him an unsubtle hint about what she wanted. Mars then put his arm around her and held her close, making sure to keep away from her horns.

The young couple then lowered their backs to the ground, with Kiris resting her head on his arm and hugging him, her tail gently wrapping around his leg. Mars held her close and enjoyed the warmth of her body.

Suddenly, the Hadrian leaned up and kissed him softly, the two teens grinning at each other. Words were unneeded at this point, so they simply continued lying down together.

Under the tree’s cool shade and in each other’s company, the two quickly fell asleep.

Wonder Island, San Diego

As Alex sat outside of the Young Blood HQ, waiting for someone to talk to him, he couldn’t help but feel… out of place. A small timer like him, coming to this massive headquarters of one of the United States’ most prolific hero teams. Not only that, but he had no idea what to do other than just wait outside which was almost demeaning. He wondered if he was right to run away from the life he had. While the difference he made may have been small, it helped people, people often neglected and ignored by society. Suddenly his pondering was interrupted however, as a seemingly reptilian women approached him from the building.

“Who are you?” she asked, in a curious voice.

“My name’s Alex, I’m here to try to join the team.” Alex said as he stood up, somewhat surprised that he had actually been approached. For him, this was a shot in the dark, and he hadn’t really prepared himself in anyway.

“Well my name’s Naja, I watch over all the heroes here. If you don’t mind, could you tell me why you’d like to join?” she asked a very unprepared Alex.

Alex didn’t really know what to say. He thought it was obvious why he’d want to join. He paused for a moment before speaking, “I just want to make a difference. I’ve been trying to help out in smaller ways for years, but no matter what I did, I could barely put a dent in the crime that I faced. I figured by joining an actual organized team I could make a lot more of difference.”

As Alex finished talking, Naja smiled, “I guess that’s as good a reason as any.” she said, before posing one more question, “But I guess the other matter at hand is your ability. What makes you think you can join the team. Do you have any powers?”

“I do have a power.” he said, struggling to think of how to explain it, “But it’s kinda hard to describe. I basically can make shockwaves. I’d try to show you but out here might not be the best idea.”

“Alright then, I’ll take your word for it.” Naja said turning to the door, “For now why don’t we head inside, the other members of the team are celebrating two of their teammates birthdays right now. You can join them if you want.”

“Sure, that sounds fun I guess.” Alex said, as she led him in. Despite his social anxiety he figured it’d be as good a time as any to get to know the team. Entering the tower, Naja led him to where the others were. As she opened the door, it appeared that they were playing Truth or Dare.

“Hate to interrupt, but this is Alex, he’s a new applicant so to speak. Thought I’d bring him up here to meet you guys. You can introduce yourselves, I need to go tend to some other business.” she said, leaving the room.

As she left, Alex made his way over to where everyone was, “You guys are playing truth or dare?” he asked, before finding a place to sit near the group.

Carter Graystone

Eventually, some force from up above possessed Renata to start a truth-or-dare game, which was welcome, considering Carter was bored out of his damn mind. All there was to do was game and eat. Not that there was anything wrong with that, he liked gaming and eating as much as the next guy, but all he was doing was sitting on a couch and eating cookies, and he looked like a guy who woke up off a park bench after he had a house fire. So anything, even the slightest change of pace, was welcome in his book...not that he even read books, too long, too many words!

The truth-or-dare game was...interesting, to say the least. At first, it started out with an ever-so uncomfortable scene involving Elle, Renata, and an ice cube, a scene that admittedly satisfied Carter quite a bit, as he couldn't help but feel it was karma for her little glow-in-the-dark flashlight-war routine on him, NOT because he thought it was hot. No, no, none of that shit.

It then progressed to an admittedly hilarious rendition of Barbie Girl by Wyatt, discussions of parentage, weed-induced dreams involving dead cities, and one of the most awkward first dances he had ever seen in his life. Despite how hilarious it was, it did teach him a few things.

1. Wendy was also a foster child.

2. Renata gets high very easily.

3. Frostface has an extremely noticeable crush on Hope's son, which explained the crop-top and jeans. As well as her furious blushing during that entire dance.

But soon it was his turn, and his turn was a big one. No doubt i his mind, he was picking dare. He always did dares, he had played the game so many times, and he never picked Truth. It wasn't just because he wanted to keep his past under wraps, even though it was part of the reason. He didn't want to be a charity case or viewed as all emotionally weak, he was trying to put that stuff behind him and focus on the future. But more than that, he just liked dares. He was a thrillseeker, there no fun in doing truth and just answering a question. Doing dares were fun, and made things more interesting.

Which is why, before Yoshi had even finished, he had yelped "DARE!" out, much to the snickers of his fellow compatriots. However, it was only as his dare was given did he realize what he had done, the blood draining out of his face faster than a black guy seeing the fuzz. His lips quivered a bit, his hands shaking, looking so comically deathly afraid of his dare that it was almost ludicrous. He had expected something like Frostface and Hatchday Boy's dare, but noooo, he had to get the girl who was dropping the worst dare possible on him.

But he wouldn't back down. Like that Tom Petty song said, he wouldn't back down. No way, no how. He asked for a dare, he wasn't going to wimp out like Frostface, he was gonna take it on the damn chin!

"YA KNOW WHAT?!" he exclaimed, standing up and pointing a shaking finger at Yoshi. "I ACCEPT YOUR DARE! And you know, I'll do you one better, I will wear lipstick and powder too! Because you might laugh, you might think I belong on that show about drag racing, but guess what! I'll have more guts than all of you combined, I will wear it with pride! Pride, I say!" he monologued with very absurd hand movements only embellishing his point. "Kirisvala! Lead the way!" he declared, before walking in the direction of the living quarters, only pausing to briefly greet some new guy.

Before suddenly, he ran back with an "Almost forgot!", sitting back down in his seat and spinning the Fanta bottle, the bottle coming to rest on...Casimir.

"So...Casimir, you know the drill, which one?"

After some consideration, mostly likely hesitation, Casimir decided to finally pick "Truth!". Oh boy. he was going to have fun with this one. He didn't know a lot about Casimir, and he wanted to find some info. He knew a lot about some of the other's pasts, but not Casimir's. Maybe because they had never been on the friendliest of terms, but he still wanted to know more.

"Alright. Here's my question; why did you move to San Diego? I know you're not from here, so why'd you move from wherever you moved? And...new guy? I don't know if you're like paparazzi or just some new kid on the block, but join in the fun, man!...or if you feel like a woman, I dunno, whatever your preferred pronoun is."

Alexis Cain/Vendetta-San Diego

Well, isn't that a pleasant surprise? We will need to find a way to make use of Brianna's language skills. Having someone here who could speak English, Russian and likely other languages as well is going to be useful. As far as that goes, the Dragons may not be our best option. NightRaven seemed kinda hesitant about using her abilities to infiltrate the team to any degree. And I certainly do not want to risk anyone of us for this mission unnecessarily. Well considering her language skills, we could probably pass off for the Russians. But as I considered it, I quickly realized that it may be better to delegate this to someone more capable.

"Nick, think you can come up with a plan for tomorrow? It's honestly not my area of specialty." Nick chuckled in response sarcastically.

"Why is it that despite there being four of us I do all of the planning?"

"Because if I do the planning, I will get everyone killed." I shot back with a smile. He muttered something about there not being any arguments there and I almost seemed content to resign myself into my room, that is until Nick stopped me.

"Well, look at that." His little announcement was enough to draw my attention.

"What is it?" I asked slightly curious.

"Remember the reinforcements your guardian angel sent when you were about to be killed by Marionette?" Nick teased while flicking ash from his cigarette as I mentally scowled at him reminding me. "Well, guess who just decided to message me? Turns out he has an answer for our offer to join the team and wants us to meet him at his Gym." Well...that certainly sounds like something that I could get into. I was just going to go and read my favorite book or something for a while but this sounds like much more fun. Plus, we are likely getting a new recruit out of this.

"Well, lets not keep the guy who saved our lives waiting. We can see what he wants and blow off some steam before we blow off the mafia tomorrow." I proclaimed as I grabbed a handgun on the way out, leading the rest of the team across town as we left to have some fun and hopefully gain a new ally.

An hour and a half later we were in front of the Gym that the address supplied led us to. All of us showed up, even Nick was convinced and or threatened to pull away from his computer. I knocked on the door firmly to announce ourselves and awaited for Sebastian to let us in. After he opened the door, I wasted no time strolling in and immediately whistled at the sight of the boxing ring. Setting down the case of liquor I brought along with me and spotting a speaker system with a shelf of music CDs next to it.

"Well, play first and work later. Lets get this party started." I announced as I opened up a bottle of Bacardi and took a swig, then glanced over at Brianna and pointed to the ring.

"Twenty dollars says I can last five minutes in the ring with you." I would have gambled that I could knock her on her ass. But as much as I hate to admit it, she is better in hand to hand than I am. We kinda met in a similar fashion. So, I have learned to temper my expectations a bit.

"Any takers?"

Wheezing, Nathan pushed himself up into a standing position, patting his chest for wounds. Luckily, the vest he had put on seemed to have stopped the bullet; he couldn't feel any pain besides those in his ribs, which were undoubtedly cracked. Unable to take off the bulletproof vest without some major pain, he dropped himself behind the pile of weapons again in case they tried shooting him again. While briefly wondering if he could somehow play dead and escape, the unmistakable sound of helicopter rotors flew through the wind, almost immediately giving him a headache.

"Oh God," he groaned, his breathing still restricted.

He heard the swordsman shout something towards him soon after, but didn't have the energy nor the capability to respond. He felt that they were trully, royally fucked, outnumbered and with no way out. The sounds of fighting seemed to have decreased, which meant the man was probably getting tired. Nathan's feeling of uselessness only increased with the knowledge that, with him, they would've at least stood a fighting chance.

The realization that he could do nothing, however, did afford Nathan one luxury: some sleep. Deciding, despite the situation, to take a nap and just wait for them to be defeated, obviously wasn't the best choice, but he saw it as something to pass the time since nothing he could do could possible change the outcome of the fight.

As his eyelids began to grow heavier and heavier, however, a spark seemed to flare inside him, as if attempting to notify him of something. It didn't take him long to notice that his tank was back, finally! Some sort of damage must have come to the power inhibitor! The tank was empty, unfortunately, but that didn't stop Nathan, who stood up and threw off the vest in one fluid motion. Absorbing the energy from the batteries and managing to heal himself with energy leftover, he stood up to look over the window again, allowing the bullets to add to his energy stash.

Although the watchtower he had been seemed to have been cut off from communications for much of the fight, probably as a precaution, it soon began beeping in preparation for a message, presumably because of some emergency signal.

"All personnel. The base's power inhibitor has been shut down. I repeat. THE INHIBITOR IS DOWN."

The bullets stopped soon after, and Nathan smirked, pulling out one of the baton's from before and throwing it away after it filled his tank to the brim.

"Alright, sword dude," he yelled, preparing to jump into the chaos below. "Now you can see what I can do!"

Without waiting for a response, Nathan silently launched himself from the watchtower window, dropping into a roll as he hit the ground and beginning a mad dash for the helicopter, hoping the cover of night would remain loyal to him. Most of the soldiers seemed preoccupied with the swordsman, however the few that took notice of the masked hero found themselves unable to aim efficiently at his speed and random running pattern.

Smirking again at the bullets that hit the grass behind him, he closed in on the helicopter, which had just managed to turn around to face him. The doors had been opened to allow for the the three soldiers inside, probably the ones who had shot at him before, to begin pointing their rifles at him, in addition to the helicopters mounted gun. Alright, he thought, consciously preparing to absorb the energy. Let's get this thing going.

In moments the entire area around him was more bullets than air, the seemingly unending amount more accurate than those shot from ground soldiers. They were useless, however, their little kinetic energy simply helping Nathan refuel as he poured as much energy as he could into his legs. He launched himself from the ground again, and found himself on a straight-on collision course with the helicopter. I hope that doesn't hurt too mu—, he thought, before smashing into the windshield as the breath escape his lungs.

Unable to shoot through the window, the awe-struck soldiers could only stare in shock as Nathan waved with a hidden smile, dropping to the gun below and using some energy to bend the turret into an unusable form. The helicopter didn't seem to have a power inhibitor—Warwolf probably hadn't been expecting someone to attack it directly. Swinging around to the helicopter landing gear, Nathan found himself peltered with bullets yet again, but once again, he had been prepared. Throwing himself inside, he pushed the three soldiers out onto the ground below, their screams echoing. Eh, they'll be fine, Nathan reassured himself, knowing he couldn't have killed them from such a low height.

The two copilots simultaneously drew their guns, allowing the helicopter to begin a nosedive. Are these guys suicidal? Nathan thought, before realizing that they were hoping to kill him too. Gauging the distance, he waved at the two pilots again before using his remaining energy to launch himself towards the ground again, split seconds before the helicopter crashed into the ground in a fiery blaze.

Charging up to around a quarter of a tank, Nathan made his way to his only ally in the battlefield, a little out of breath.

"So, what now?"

Asumar Masaki
San Diego, Warwolf Facility

"Viper 2-1, my tail rotor is hit, we're going down I repeat we're going dow-" The sound of a deafening explosion of a helicopter impacting the cement could be heard from miles away. It had been only a few minutes following Asumar's escape from the battle against Mar and now an entire group of Warwolf Soldiers were perusing the elder Masaki as he attempted to evade them. He found it odd how most of the attention was on him and not on his previous opponent, perhaps it was the fact that he had been spotted first in the ensuing fight. Jumping from rooftop to rooftop would Asumar be seen, a cloak of purple armor surrounding his body and soaking up any of the bullets from the APC's and Helicopters chasing after him.

"They are persistent, I'll give them that." Asumar remarked, his attention on the group of APC's that were taking chase on the streets below. He had hoped to whatever god that the Collective worshipped that they had not seen his face, otherwise it wouldn't bode well for his family whatsoever. "I can't lead them to the house, that's for sure. That only leaves one thing to do, as much as I hate to do this." Without the closest APC expecting it, Asumar took an abrupt right turn, jumping off the building and bringing up his energy-clad fist, which would transform into a large purple blade as he sent it crashing directly on top of the APC Turret "I've got to go on the offensive now!" The resulting attack would catch the APC driver unawares, making him panic in an attempt to shake off Asumar from the turret of the vehicle. Bringing his other hand would Asumar begin to cut an entrance into the APC, where he would be met with oncoming fire from the soldiers within the armored vehicle "This is your lucky day, this ride is now half off!" Without warning would Asumar then literally cut the front half of the vehicle off before back flipping off the roof to safety in the middle of the street.

Fortunately for him the general vicinity had been cleared of all civilian activity, assuring that no civilians would be unfortunate to get caught in the middle of the crossfire. But unfortunately Asumar still had an entire division of Warwolf Soldiers pursuing him through the streets of San Diego. "Stand Down, you are under arrest for disturbing public order and evading arrest, this is your last warning!" a voice from one of the five helicopters hovering overhead stated as an entire group of APC's and heavily armed Humvee's began to converge on Asumar's location. While he could use his psionic capabilities to disable some of the vehicles he also realized that a combined attack would begin to wither away at the energy armor and eventually give himself away. If anything Asumar knew that there were additional options, but would also require that immense attention be placed directly upon him if he resorted to using his more advanced abilities. But if Asumar surrendered this would cause an international incident between the United States and the Collective.

Asumar was running out of options that would leave collateral damage at a minimum.

July 17th
San Diego

As usual for the boy's patrols, it was nighttime, the moon shining high in the skies over San Diego as Blackout ran across one of the city's rooftops, jumping from one building to another and looking around from his new vantage point before heading off once more. Much like three nights ago, on the same day that he had a meeting with Stella, there wasn't much for a vigilante like him to do. Despite his suspicions about them, which had only increased after learning about their treatment of the local hero Duke, it was undeniable that Warwolf had, in some way or another, accomplished what they had set out to do: crime had diminished drastically in the days following their arrival, and though the criminal syndicates present in the city were far from being routed, most were doing the smart thing and laying low to a greater or lesser degree while waiting for the storm to pass.

That is not to say he hadn't had plenty of tension and activities to keep him busy, but no longer were they of the violent sort. While he had managed to encounter a couple of criminals and give them a good beating since the beginning of Warwolf's occupation, most of his time was now spent tailing their patrols, following their convoys from the rooftops or from the shadows in an attempt to learn more about their methods and goals, as well as to try to dissuade them from causing trouble if a repeat of the Duke incident took place in front of him.

Thus far, however, no such thing had happened, and so the young vigilante continued to patrol the streets, all of it taking place even as an inner tension raged on within him: on the one hand was the promise he'd made, one that he hesitated to break, as he cared about the person he had made it to and worried about what would happen should she find out if it was broken; on the other was his innate desire to fight against the excesses of not just the criminal syndicates, but of the forces of law enforcement as well, in hopes of righting what was wrong when heroes could not.

Reaching his intended destination, the boy took a moment to catch his breath and then walked closer to the edge of the building, sitting down on it. Doing what he did, he had learned quite a bit about Warwolf's patrol arrangement over the past week or so, and knew that one of their convoys was bound to pass by the street below in no more than a few minutes. In the meantime, he could stop and relax, something he hadn't had too many chances to do over the past few days. Between patrolling the streets, tailing Warwolf and making sure that his identity remained a secret to others, his days had been tense and his nights hectic.

It was only on occasions like these, far and few inbetween, that Icarus had a chance to think about what had become of his life. A month ago he had only been another face in an unruly crowd, another kid with problems he hadn't bargained for. And then, all of the sudden, his powers arrive, and with them the opportunity to do something more, to be something more. And though many disagreed with his methods and considered him an enemy despite not being corrupted or unlawful, he knew that many others were grateful for what he did, for the few lives that he had managed to save so far and for the crime he had taken out of the streets. Of course, that didn't change the fact that he was, for all purposes, a hunted man, something that weighed heavily on his mind, especially considering his budding relationship.

At least all of these are problems I did bargain for. He said to himself.

Before his thoughts went any deeper, the silhouette of a Warwolf Humvee became visible in the distance, meaning that it was time for him to get to work. Backing away from the edge of the building and taking advantage of his black outfit to better blend in with the shadows of the night, Blackout watched from his hiding spot and waited, planning to follow the convoy closely in hopes of uncovering something, much like he had been doing the past couple nights. However, fate had other plans for him. All of the sudden, his cellphone began ringing, forcing him to retreat a good distance in order to not risk alerting Warwolf to his presence.

"Joe? How did you get this number?" The teen questioned, before shaking his head. "Nevermind. What do you want?" He spoke before listening to the words from the other side, his expression quickly turning into dismay. "What... are you sure?" He asked. Hearing what his interlocutor said next, he nodded, despite knowing that the other side couldn't see. "Yes, I'll go there right away!" He said, ending the call and pocketing his phone.

All because of me... I have to help. The boy thought, before making a final glance at the streets below. The Warwolf convoy had already passed him and was putting more and more distance between them every passing second, and though it would not be too difficult for him to catch up, a decision had to be made: should he continue his pursuit in shadow, or should he go and try to fix the situation he had created?

Quickly making up his mind, the vigilante vanished, heading elsewhere at full speed.

The man half-walked, half-stumbled out of the bar, reeking of alcohol and tobacco and with a huge smile on his face. That day, he had all the reason to celebrate, and he made sure that his seedy crowd of friends was aware of it, having bought a few rounds of booze for them. But it was late and he had work to do come tomorrow, so it was time to walk back home. He enjoyed a fair amount of protection in that area due to pleasing the right crowd, or so he thought, and thus he stumbled back home in his drunken stupor, lacking fear or worry of any sort.

Until he noticed two people tailing him, that is. Not yet too inebriated to be completely ignorant of his surroundings, the man frowned and took a turn left into less traveled streets to see if they would stop following him. This was to no avail, as the two hooded individuals continued mirroring his footsteps, following him where he went. The man was quickly growing exasperated, but refrained from confronting them, not keen on getting in trouble again so quickly. Instead, he accelerated his pace, doing his best to move more quickly despite his body not entirely cooperating due to the effects of the alcohol. In respone his two pursuers simply matched his pace without much effort.

Growing more and more annoyed, and somewhat concerned as well, as these did not look like anyone he had ever associated with. He briefly considered simply making a run for it, his home was not too far and he was fairly certain he could reach it before those punks could catch him, not to mention-

His thoughts were quickly cut off when he received a nasty blow to the head with some sort of blunt weapon. Stunned and in pain, the man fell to the ground, looking up only to see someone standing above him, a person just like the other two, dressed all in black, with a hood obscuring his face and below it, two strips of black cloth, one covering his lower face and another the area around his eyes. From what little features the man could see, his attacker actually looked somewhat... young, but this didn't make the blow any less painful.

"You may have managed to weasel your way out of paying for all those assaults on a technicality this morning, Mr. Morris, but the city doesn't forget, and neither does its people." The assailant said, his voice betraying him as a teenage boy despite his meager attempts to make it sound deeper than it was. The man did not have a chance to think about it for long, however, as the two boys that had been tailing him earlier ran up to him and began showering him with kicks and punches, the drunken man struggling to protect himself from the worst of it. They, too, sounded like teens as they cursed at him. The third boy soon joined in, battering his arms and legs with the baseball bat he had attacked with earlier. By the end of the beating, Morris was in a world of pain and had several broken bones, though he was not dead.

"You remember what happened to night and don't fucking think of-" The apparent leader of the trio began, before freezing up suddenly and looking down the street. A Warwolf Humvee had just turned a corner and was headed straight towards them. On instinct, the three boys ran off, hoping to somehow manage to hide from them and avoid being captured. Everyone knew of what had happened to Duke, and nobody wanted to suffer a similar fate. Unfortunately for them, the presence of other patrols in the nearby area made this difficult, especially when the soldiers found Morris' battered body and alerted others in the area to keep an eye out. In addition to the patrols, several Warwolf patrolmen began searching on foot, making things even trickier.

After what felt like hours of running, the boys eventually found themselves cornered. On one side, there was a dead end, an alley with no exit, and on the other, an irked Warwolf operative with a rifle trained on them and a patience that had been worn thin.

"Drop your weapons and get on the ground this instant!"

Blackout watched the scene unfold before his very eyes, tension gripping every inch of his body. From his vantage point in the rooftops, he had watched everything, from the trio's deeds to their current predicament, always watching but not daring to jump in. Under normal circumstances, he wouldn't have hesitated a second before jumping into the fray and wrecking Warwolf for threatening the people he had promsed to protect, but tonight was different. Tonight there was something foreign weighing on his mind, a promise made to someone he cared for deeply. Was it worth breaking it to continue doing what he did? Was the promise worth preserving if it meant to remain an observer?

The vigilante could only pray that the three boys did nothing stupid, knowing that the situation would be resolved if they turned themselves in; the rest would be tricky to solve, but it could be addressed without either side turning to violence, he hoped. But amid these desperate thoughts, he averted his gaze, and that was when it happened. He didn't know what had caused it: perhaps one of the boys had packed a gun and pulled it on the Warwolf soldier in an attempt to save his comrades, or perhaps one of them displayed a dangerous power that was seen by the Warwolf operative as a threat. Either way, the sound of gunfire suddenly erupted from the closed off alley, and Icarus turned back, staring wide-eyed at the three corpses down below.

At that moment, everything that was holding the vigilante back was torn down in an instant. No promise in the world would justify inaction... No promise in the world would justify injustice.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Blackout roared, drawing the attention of not just the soldier in the alley, but several soldiers nearby, both on foot and on vehicles, who quickly scrambled to action and began zeroing in on his location. "You're supposed to protect San Diego, not murder its citizens!" He continued, anger and indignation coursing through his voice and his entire body. One of the soldiers on the streets with a clear view of him pointed his handheld power suppressor towards him, but the vigilante was not about to give those bloodthirsty grunts the pleasure of depowering him.

Leaping from the rooftop, he crashed down right inbetween all the Warwolf soldiers that had clustered nearby. Raising a fist, he immediately sucked out all the electricity in the area, which, as it turns out, had devastating effects on his foes, starting with the fact that their vehicles had been disabled, not to mention that their power suppressors, reliant on that type of energy, were little more than exotic props now. Of course, their rifles, relying solely on the principle of combustion, were as good as ever, but the soldiers could not muster the strength to wield them now. As it turns out, you take the energy out of a power armor suit and it becomes little more than an oppressive metallic cage.

Surrounding himself in glowing blue armor, the vigilante glared at his enemies. "I will make you all regret what happened here today."

Blackout then proceeded to deliver a brutal beatdown to each and every soldier present in the area, all of them completely unable to defend themselves from the vengeful warrior. It was a struggle for them to even move, let alone call for aid, meaning that any potential reinforcements were out of the equation. The soldiers were alone, and the vigilante made sure to punish each of them thoroughly before leaving them to lie in dirt, wrecking their equipment, destroying their weapons and rendering their vehicles useless.

By the time he was done, the scene was littered with bodies stripped of their armor and bits and pieces of weaponry scattered throughout the area. Still unable to temper his rage, Icarus approached the last of the soldiers, grabbing him by the helmet. "Forgive me, I didn't do anything!" He pleaded, terrified despite his training after witnessing what a single boy had done to several Warwolf patrols by himself. His begging, however, fell on deaf ears, as the blond boy slammed the soldier face-first into the concrete repeatedly, each blow cracking the helmet more and more until it broke apart completely. Then, he lifted the man's face and began ramming his fist into it without concern for his health.

After several such attacks, the vigilante managed to pause, tempering his anger for a moment. Realizing the amount of blood covering his fists, he dropped the body, startled, and then leaned closer to it. The man was still breathing despite all the punishment he had taken, which gave some relief to Icarus' anguished heart, but only for a moment. Looking at the scene surrounding him, and especially at the three dead boys in the alley, the boy fell to his knees, armor fading away as he breathed heavily, silent tears running down his face. He knew that he had been fully responsible for the death of those boys, not just because of his inaction, but because they had gotten themselves into their predicament because they wanted to be like him, to clean out the streets the same way he did. He had inspired them and that had led them to their deaths.

I failed to save them... He thought as he slowly clenched his fists. I will not fail again.

Kaban

Another day another multi-million dollars in damaged vehicles for Warwolf. He was starting to have a bit more trouble finding more ground vehicles lately, either because he had smashed enough that they were running out, or they had found a way to map their patrols around him. It made the day go by a little slower since he had to face all the weird looks he got from the pedestrians. Not that he cared too much, it was still better than being in the house whenever Onu was in one of her moods. She seemed to get even more smug ever since she started wearing human clothes for some absurd reason. As he was walking down the sidewalk, he heard screaming, human screaming and people rushing past him. He looked up to see a helicopter crashing a street over, or in other words a place for him to go make some trouble.

He had considered going after helicopters, but the one glaring disadvantage to him being unusually large was that he was a poor flier. It was difficult for him to even get in the air and stay there, let alone obtain the speed and perform the aerial acrobatics required to go after helicopters. Following the sounds of fighting and explosions, he turned the corner to see a strange man, likely one of the many super humans as they were called. While he didn't really care about them, the fact that Warwolf hated them as well as him meant it was all the more reason for him to have another ally to spite them.

Plus Onu and Bael said something about not making the Dra'Qunni look like psychopaths or something. That too. He approached the brigade of vehicles and lifted the APC that the glowing man was facing off against and slung it over his shoulder. The ground cracked a bit as he strode over to the humvees. "Well this is unfair. It's 50 of you against one of him." He mused and dropped the APC on top of the engines of the humvees. He only got 2 or so, but it was enough to bide a minute or two. "Alright." He spoke facing the glowing, long haired man. "You look like you're having a bit of trouble with these idiots. Sadly, rules dictate I can't murder them all, even if they deserve it." He muttered. "Catch your breath for a moment, they'll probably be back with more idiots. Here's some advice, if you're not big on murder, smash their vehicles. They really hate that and it's funny. You can, and will, call me Kaban."

Wyatt

So far the truth or dare had gone interestingly. Between his having to sing Barbie Girl, Wendy basically admitting she had foster parents, and Renata telling about the last dream she could remember while Carter boasted about going to go wear one of Kiris's . He did feel a little bad for Wendy, he knew that foster care could be less than stellar. Something he'd have to be a little more sympathetic towards in the future. Everything went quiet for a moment as Naja came in with... A new team member? His name was Alex and he seemed pretty friendly. There were some words going around that they were going to go have some team practice over the next few days so he arrived at almost the perfect time.

Carter kind of introduced himself, Wyatt figured he'd at least give the guy a proper greeting. So he stood up and waved Alex down. "Good to meet you Alex. I'm Wyatt. We're playing truth or dare, you missed most of it, but we've got a few rounds left if you still want to play." He offered. "We're gonna be doing some practice in a day or two. Maybe we can team up." It had to go better than last time, where the only person who acknowledged his existence was Park.

Asumar Masaki

At this point Asumar was beginning to breath somewhat heavily, the years of peace had made him rusty, his stamina suffering as a result and if anything the arrival of Kaban was a blessing for him otherwise Asumar would have had to go to the next level. If the situation had not been so serious for him Asumar would have been laughing at how casually Kaban dropped an APC over a Humvee engine, but now was not the time or place for such humor "Thanks for the assist Kaban, It was getting a little too intense for me especially considering I fought against an Orion agent beforehand. The name's Asumar Masaki, but you can call me Asumar." Amid the military helicopters that surrounded the two could Asumar clearly see a news helicopter witnessing the entire event and airing it on live TV. At this Asumar let out an audible sigh, shaking his head in disappointment "Kazuko will sure as hell be disappointed in me when he sees this." There was very little time for Asumar to continue worrying about this, especially considering the fact that more Warwolf Soldiers were making their way to them.

"They are more than persistent, they are just plain stubborn at this point." Asumar commented casually before tapping into the Nexus, his eyes glowing a bright purple as he grabbed hold of all the vehicles in the area and placing them on the main street to act as a barricade, using the abandoned APC's as the supports for these barricades. "And that should buy us more time while I deal with those blasted helicopters." Asumar stated to no one in particular, raising his hands up towards the Helicopters, using his telekinesis to guide them to the ground while simultaneously ripping out their rotors as they landed on the nearby roofs but before the soldiers could emerge from their now disabled vehicles would Asumar seal each helicopter within spheres of energy that would dissipate as soon as he left the vicinity.

While building up barricades would Asumar begin conversing with Kaban "Huh, I've never seen anyone like you before in my life, are you a new species on this planet or are you from another world?"

The Great Floyd Tolson!

The helicopter zooming over their heads seemed reluctant to land immediately or get close enough to aim their weapons at Floyd, fearing that whoever was strong enough to take out a platoon of Warwolf soldiers and keep on standing probably would not have much problem taking out a helicopter, either. The crew of the helicopter instead spent their time messaging the rest of the organization about a group of high power metas attacking one of their facilities and taking out much of the immediate guards, probably requesting backup, heavier firepower, maybe a bunch of Humvees and APCs, who knows.

At least, that's what Floyd assumed the helicopter was trying to do - after all, if he was in their position, that's what he would have most likely done. And, truth be told, it was getting a little worrying. The more they alarm Warwolf, the higher chance they have of getting something tough sicked on them, and while that, admittedly, would be very fun, it also carries the risk of getting defeated outright. And Floyd had no plans to be thrown to the slammer, even if he was sure that he could escape jail in an instant if he really wanted to. He's gotten his fix, anyway, no need for much more.

Suddenly, the watchtower he had been fighting around for a good ten minutes broadcasted a message, informing everyone in its vicinity that the facility's power inhibitors are down. Immediately, Floyd tested that theory by turning off some unnecessary senses, more specifically smell and taste - bloody hell, it worked, his visual precision got a lot better instantly. Was turning those power scramblers off the reason why Marionette snuck off in the middle of the fight? If so... then props to her, for the first useful thing she has done today.

Not long after, Nathan stuck his head out of the watchtower, now fully healed and much more confident, and suddenly lashed out at the helicopter, tanking all of the bullets fired at him and tossing three of the soldiers inside from a fairly low height. Knowing that they were wearing some armor, it probably wouldn't kill them... which is great, because that means Floyd could join in on the fun. While the trio was still falling through the air, the swordsman prepared for a low running start, then suddenly lunged forward and leapt right at them, cutting through the poor sobs with ease and gracefully landing on his feet ten meters away to sheath his sword. Nathan sent the helicopter crashing into the ground soon thereafter, leaving the duo alone in the battlefield, at least for now.

The youngster almost immediately asked him on what their plan was now.

"Well..." Floyd responded, somewhat thoughtfully, not even fully sure on their next move himself. "We've likely alarmed the entire organization by now, so those wankers will just keep coming until we're subdued. Not that it wouldn't be fun, mind you... but logically, the best option would be to cut our losses and escape before an another batch of those buggers arrives. It's not like we won't be able to get back to scheduled programming once all the tension fades away a bit."

The Great Floyd Tolson!

Oh bloody hell.

As soon as Floyd chucked his sword forward to try to cut down the tires of the speeding truck, an unknown force intervened and pushed both him and the weapon to the side, the latter getting embedded in a nearby wall and the former sliding across the asphalt before stopping right before the pavement. With his momentum firmly killed, the truck sped off, becoming little more than a dot approaching the horizon. Well, that's the end of that.

Floyd's precise eyesight quickly caught the bastard who is most likely behind this skullfuckery. It was that dude who jumped out of the van with Johnny and was now slapping him around, right? The teen moved his finger a little bit and instantly took out the lights, leaving this portion of the street immersed in darkness, then began to approach the swordsman. In response, Floyd snickered a little bit, then pulled his sword out of the wall with ease and began walking towards Keith himself.

"An odd strategy - circumsizing your own chances of victory by eliminating any chance of receiving reinforcements. Must be really confident in your powerset, huh?" the swordsman spoke, blood red sparks starting to cackle around him. "What's it about?"

Renata Martinez, the heroic Stella!

Jesus, a lot happened in such a short period of time. Yesterday, they held a party for both Mars and Wyatt, received a new member of the team and got each other embarrassed ten times over. Today, she crashed at the mall with Aleta, which went... interestingly. Jeez, it's almost like in two days, she caught up on all the partying and going out a girl her age would set out do at summer.

For the evening of the 18th, Renata decided to return to her room, getting a little bit of rest, catching up on social media - unfortunately, few mentions of Stella appeared across the Internet during that time, which slightly soured her mood - and, of course, getting herself up to speed on local news. After all, what kind of superhero would be able to do his job effectively if he doesn't have a clue what is happening in the area he is supposed to protect? Unfortunately, news outlets, both video and newspaper format, have always been dull to her, so this has always been one of her least favorite parts of her job.

Leaning on her swivel chair and holding up a latte with her right hand, carefully, by the tip of the cup, to not siphon all of the heat out of it, Renata unenthusiastically watched a news report on her computer, growing ever so drowsy as she went.

"We return to you with classic San Diego news, ladies and gentlemen, starting with the story of the night, where an incident believed to have been instigated by the infamous vigilante Blackout cost the lives of three teenage boys and left several Warwolf patrolmen severely wounded last night. In related news, a new group of villains known only as..."

Renata slightly dozed off during the report, but a little metaphorical gnome in her mind suddenly slammed a wake-up bell, instantly sending her reeling forward, spilling her latte on the ground in the process, and leaving her with a shocked face.

Wait, WHAT?! Did I... hear that correctly?

No, she must have definitely misheard something. Her mind probably mixed a few words into one while she was dozing off and connected them to the word she had been hearing more and more often recently. Like when you hear your name being called in running water, you know?.. Regardless, the heroine moved her cursor to scroll the video back about ten seconds and gave it a second listen.

"...where an incident believed to have been instigated by the infamous vigilante Blackout cost the lives of three teenage boys and left several Warwolf patrolmen severely wounded last night. In related news..."

No. No, no, no! She did not mishear anything. An incident happened in San Diego where Blackout caused the deaths of three teenagers and left several patrolmen wounded. That's what the story told her. That's the last thing Renata wanted anyone to tell her.

She gave it a third listen.

"...the infamous vigilante Blackout cost the lives of three teenage boys and left several Warwolf patrolmen severely wounded last night..."

You dummy, just trying again is not going to change the fact. Blackout was now a murderer. That's several degrees above simply assaulting a hero or punching a police officer. That's grounds for years in jail right there.

But... how? Renata remembered what Blackout told her clearly. He was beyond killing people, and despised those who left bodies on their way, be it police or other heroes. He may have been seen as a vigilante by the world, but he believed himself to be doing the right thing. He promised Renata that he won't do something this reckless.

Maybe this isn't the Blackout she knows? Great idea, maybe this is a villain who uses the same nickname as him, or someone pretending to be him to smear dirt on him. Just like what had happened with Red some time ago, right? For checking that, Renata closed the tab with the news report and went to Google, where, as expected, most major news outlets had already reported on the story with an article or two. Most of them had pictures of the crime scene, too, and descriptions of the clues the police had found to tie the murders and assaults to the vigilante. If Renata could find some inconsistencies in the story with what she knew of Blackout, then she could take a sigh of relief, because that would prove her last ditch theory correct.

Nope.

The assaulter suddenly jumped in and drained the electricity from the Warwolf soldiers before beating them all to a pulp. Exactly like what she remembered Blackout's powers to be.

Renata leaned back on her chair, taking a few breaths through her teeth, doing her best to calm down. Had she not known any better, she would have probably vaporized her computer then and there for bringing the bad news. But no, all she did was turn it off as soon as the initial surge of anger subsided.

It was a mistake. It all was a mistake.

I shouldn't have solicited that promise.

I shouldn't have trusted him.

There was only one thing left to do to prevent her heart from detonating then and there. The Young Bloods allow going on missions solo, right? As long as you inform anyone beforehand? That's good. Renata stood up from her chair, opened her clothing closet and pulled out her red skintight Stella suit, hastily starting to put it on. And, while doing so, multitasking as always - this time by pulling out her smartphone, navigating to her contacts and opening a call with a recent one. In the past, it used to be "Blackout - ???". Now, it had been replaced by "Blackout - Icarus".

The call would be brief and laconic.

"Blackout? I want to meet up with you tonight. Urgent matters. Let's say... the courtyard on Balboa Street. I'll see you there."

Blackout hurriedly walked through the shadows of various backstreets and alleys in an attempt to remain unseen as he headed straight towards Balboa street, where he had agreed to meet Renata. After the events of the previous night, he had headed straight home, desperately washing the blood off his hands and his clothes. He had been deeply affected by what happened, lying on his bed for hours with his eyes wide open, the guilt that weighed on his mind not allowing him to catch any sleep until he finally succumbed to exhaustion.

The morning that followed did not make him feel any better about the situation. He watched the news, waiting to see what would be said about the incident, but that only made him seethe in anger as he listened to the load of slander that the media began spewing about him, making him responsible for the deaths of those boys when it had been Warwolf's doing, and Warwolf's alone. And yet, he couldn't express any of this rage. There was no one he could talk to about it: the only person he trusted enough to talk to about this was Renata, and he had promised her something that he couldn't uphold. In a moment of weakness, he tried calling Astrid to tell her everything, but she wouldn't pick up her phone, and he didn't want to burden Casimir; he was a Young Blood, after all.

Thus his day was spent alone, hiding, in a constant struggle against his own troubled thoughts. While usually he would've gone out to patrol the streets, he was too disheartened to try, and the backlash he would undoubtedly receive from the public would make his rounds all the more dangerous. When he received the phone call, he felt anxiety, but also a sliver of hope that he might explain his actions to someone. But Renata seemed to be in such a hurry that she only gave him a brief message before hanging up. Slightly disappointed, the vigilante nonetheless immediately donned his black attire and left his home, heading towards the meeting place. He had no doubts that Renata had seen the news too, but perhaps he could explain things to her, convince her that he wasn't a murderer. She would trust him, right? They had grown close over the past several days, so surely she would believe him?

All of that was what had brought him to the present moment. He had finally arrived at Balboa Street, and there, in the center of a large open area, was the pink-haired heroine he had dined with only four days earlier. He smiled a hopeful smile as he approached, practically trotting towards her.

"Stella!"

July 18th

"These hills are beautiful." A costumed individual placed his hand on the ground, running his palm through the grass. "Oh, and they are resilient too. So many fires. So much pain." He smiled to himself, and waved his arm in a sweeping motion, muttering a few incoherent sentences. The grass within sight changed from a dull tan color to a vibrant green with a sparkling wave of energy sweeping over them. Shrubs bloomed once more. A few spare trees erupted from the ground. "They're overdue for a rest."

The purple tights with pink highlights proudy displayed the hero's identity, though most of the civilians probably wouldn't recognize him. It was the renowned and occasionally ridiculed el Hechicero. Sometimes, he went by the Vagabond in English speaking regions, given the prevalence of magical heroes going by something like Sorcerer or Magus or Warlock with some simple adjective or a title denoting their prestige. Tadeo had little need for respect. That wasn't what drove him.

El Hechicero continued his journey through the far western hills of the US, enjoying the shining sun beating down on the back of his silhouette. The warmth was like a kind greetting from the morning, invigorating him once more with the determination of his mission.

The magician crossed the hills with a slow walk, his form slightly bouncing with each step. One more hill to be crossed an... his smile faded slightly. Tadeo looked down across the city, a mass of grey and black, and brick. His hand rose and with a snap he vanished.. well, sorta.

To the casual onlooker, his form faded in and out, each time closer to his destination. The intervals were far from regular, sometimes only revealing him again for a flash of time, sometimes even so quickly that the light wouldn't have the time to bounce off him sparkly costume. His body finally materialized on a roof in the city, slightly sloped but easy enough to stand and walk on for someone accustomed to difficult terrain. A few more teleportation spells, and he had crossed most of the city, avoiding the hustle and bustle of the cars below, with their whirling mechanics and spouting wells of poison that followed them wherever they went. His nose crinkled with the though of it.

Eventually, the costumed crusader had to drop down the side of the buildings he was clinging to and with a small phrase and a wave of his hand, a streaming flow of sparkles sprouted from his back and his effortlessly glided down to the alleyway below. Another incantation revealed only a few rodents and a feline were nearby, and so he felt comfortable dropping his glamour for the time being.

"I'll check over here," A mechanical voice called out from around the corner. Tadeo waved his hand once more, just as the soldier rounded the corner within his view. The hero felt his heart beating in his chest.

"Nothing over here." A sigh of relief. His invisibility spells weren't always convincing to the attentive eye. "Suspect must have teleported again. No sign of him here. Send a report out to the other squads to keep an eye out for El Hechicero in the city." Hm. My reputation precedes me after all. He thought little of it at first; Americans loved to have uniformed goons marching through the streets. Their answer to everything was to send the troops.

Tadeo slinked his way through the alleys, sometimes stopping to pet a feral cat or rat. Animals were drawn to him, and he was used to this symptom of his abilities by now. It sometimes came in handy.

It was not long before a latino with a pink undershirt and a purple flanel with short sleeves emerged onto the street, looking to be no more than nineteen. The sidewalk was busy with foot traffic, with people readily bumping into him as he walked past, but he did not mind. He was sure they had places to be as much as he did.

Tadeo entered a little shop, tv buzzing with a splitting hum. He frowned at it but continued to the counter. "I think I am lost. I was looking for an island, and couldn't see it from the beach. Could you point where I'll be able to see it?" He produced a map of San Diego. The woman at the counter ignored him.

"Oh, I understand." He tried to purchase a piece of gum, and the cashier suddenly pointed it out on the paper. "Thank you, kind lady." He left, the map disappearing into thin air as he closed the door behind him. He chewed on the chicle, disappointed with the artificial flavor. He swallowed it rather than leaving it for some animal to eat.

Wait... what? Tadeo's attention was peaked by a smell. A very particular smell. A smell from as early in his life as he could remember. It was unnaturally sweet. As he inhaled once more, a stream of particles, slightly sparkling and having a very distinct color palette became clear to him. He followed the trail with curiosity, knowing full and well what could be waiting for him.

His steps hastened as he became close, but his path was blocked off by police tape. He looked forward, noticing a mark on the ground in the distance and burn marks in a few places on the road. There didn't seem to be much of an active police presence, but something told him that crossing the line would warrant unwanted attention to himself given what he knew.

He turned into a building and walked up the steps to the roof, overlooking the crime scene, then make a small portal appear, one side to look into and another to look out of near the actual tag on the ground, effectively allowing him to identify the marking as a spell. It was rather simple in design, and was similar to a magical tagging system used by some choice gangs in Guerrero but it was definitely different in design and had slight nuances in the casting. It could be cartel related.

He continued investigating it, noting the design as beign rather strange. The portal to look out of shifted around the crime scene, angling towards some scorch marked on the ground. The distinct smell of sweet and sulfur told him it was a fire spell that was used on someone. "That's a pretty powerful spell. I doubt its an untrained cartel goon making use of spells. Could be an independent hire." He spoke to himself, closing both portals and making his way down the steps once more.

Once on the sidewalk nearby, he stopped a pedestrian. "Eh... Hello. Do you know what happened here? I live nearby and-"

"Take a hike"

Tadeo frowned. Thinking taking a hike is something bad... No me importa. I'm not here for this. I need to take care of my business first. Then, I can investigate this further. He walked off towards a position where he could see the island in the distance.

"Now, I have to figure out how to get there.... Wait, is that a building on it?" He tilted his head in confusion. "What is that doing there?" Others were taking pictures in front of the island, with piece signs and merchandise and everything, sometimes playing with the perspective of the photo to make it look as if it were being pinched by their fingers of leaned against for support. One woman fell over trying to get a leaning photo.

A man was selling merchandise on a pitched table in the middle of the beach. "Sir, do you know what is on that island?"

The clerk seemed incredulous. "That's Wonder Island. The Young Bloods HQ is there. Here look-" The man showed him some merchandise, showing a few of the heroes in their costumes in action poses that were poorly edited. "That one is just two dollars you know." Tadeo put the shirt down and began pondering how to actually get what he needed.

"And they are good people? They are heroes?"

"I mean, depends who you ask, but they're mostly kids."

Tadeo nodded and waved a hand over his form in plain view of the beachgoers, revealing himself as el Hechicero without care. What need had he for a secret identity? No one had his photo. He was not on any register. No one knew him from his life before this time. He had no one left to protect from vindictive villains.

The crowd cheered, most not knowing who he was and the few that did snickered to themselves quietly, but Tadeo just waved politely and walked to the water's edge, flicking his wrist and stepping directly onto the water. He strolled forward for a time, before realizing there were protective spells around the base. He sat down with his legs crossed on the water, and reached out the the spells that protected the island.

A protective barrier. An alarm. And this spellcraft... what is that? Runic? Hechicero's nose crinkled at the thought of it. That's nasty to unweave. I'd probably have to walk to different positions and disable each one, and if this wizard knows what he's doing, then it'll take time to do it. Especially if he... Yeah he wove the alarm into the barrier too. So if I take down the wards then I have to be careful not to set off the alarms, and that would take so much time and precision to do that it really isn't worth it.

The costumed hero simply reached out, twisted his wrist, and set the alarm off on purpose.

July 18th
San Diego Mall

On a summer day, the mall was always packed and today was no exception. Faceless bodies pushed past them on occasion, but none with malicious intent. Eventually, Aleta noticed the store she was looking for and pulled Renata inside abruptly.

“This is a pawn shop. Few people come in here. Let’s look around.” A television idly played in the background, while the clerk boredly read from a magazine, popping a bubble gum bubble to complete the ambience of the store. There were countless items, most junk or locked behind glass, all about the store. Aleta brought Renata over to the bong shelf and raised an eyebrow at her. “See anything you like?”

In response, Renata frowned a little and sighed. “Aleta, come on…” she spoke in a disappointed, though also partially amused voice. “We’ve gone over this plenty of times before, didn't we? We may be in California, but I’m not interested in doing drugs.”

Folding her arms on her chest, Renata took a looks through nearby shelves, ones which didn't involve water pipes, searching for something of interest, but soon turned her eyes back towards her friend. “My father would kill me if he ever found out, after all.”

“Well, if you insist…” Aleta rolled her eyes while inspecting something else in the store. “I forgot your dad is strict. Aunt Naftis isn’t really around much, so I can pretty much do anything I want.” Aleta barely ever brought up her aunt, let alone her parents. “She’s usually busy partying ‘with the gals’ getting margs and guac, yknow?” Air quotes and sarcastic impressions were abound while she was speaking.

“Yeah, I hear you,” Renata replied, inspecting a stall with unopened action figures packages and machine parts for a few seconds before her vision trailed off elsewhere. Well at least that’s one reason for Aleta’s personality down. “My dad was already reluctant to send me to the United States when I asked him, and he can always recall me if I screw up anywhere, so I definitely don’t have as much freedom to act as you.”

“Yes, yes,” Aleta kinda waved her hand. “I wonder if he would worry about that party you went to the other day.” She turned back and raised an eyebrow. “Since when are you going to parties? Most of the time I have to drag you to mine.”

She laughed a bit and continued. “Or maybe you were just covering for your double life as a---” A thin dark scarf covered her face for dramatic effect, “international teenage spy???? DUN-dun-DUUUUUUNNNN!” Laughter overcame her.

“I’m kidding. You’re pretty much a snore. I doubt you even got the slightest bit tipsy.” She said matter of factly. “Kidding aga-ain; You’re great. Pretty good. I mean you’re still not a boring dork like Wyatt or a loser-creep like that kid Icarus.”

Aleta's monologue was an emotional rollercoaster for poor Renata. Every single time her friend poked her, she would get tense, already starting to think of what her rebuttal could be, only to sigh and take an easier breath when it turned out to be a fake-out. And then repeat, and repeat… Truth be told, the fact that Aleta was scoring so many close shots on Renata's secrets was starting to get worrying. If all this was a coincidence, then it definitely was a really lucky one.

“I think I explained to you that it was just a birthday party for one of our, um, circle of friends,” the pink-haired girl attempted to explain herself, trying to not appear too defensive as to not raise suspicion. “You probably wouldn't even consider it a party, anyway. There was no alcohol involved and all of the activities took place during the day, and we spent our time playing Mario Kart and truth or dare rather than… you know… party things.”

Which makes it sound more like a party more fitting for an eight year old rather than a seventeen year old, but Renata tried to lock away that thought. Fiddling a Tamagotchi from one of the stalls in her hands, she continued:

“And I don't know, Aleta… If we’re talking about Wyatt and Icarus specifically, then I don't think the situation with them is as bad as you describe. Sure, they're loners, but they're not bad people to hang out with.” Well, at least Icarus wasn't. Renata didn't really… know much about Wyatt.

“I’m gonna have to stop you right there, Rena. We have to pass the Bechdel anyway.” Aleta nodded with her hand up to motion a pause. “Nah. I’m kidding. So you’re saying that you’re hung out with both of them before, huh?” Aleta raised an eyebrow.

Aleta’s earlier comment confused Renata - she had no idea what “the Bechdel” was supposed to be, a some sort of shop or what? - but the following fake-out brought her back on track. After a brief ummm, the girl responded:

“Not regularly, no, but I have indeed. That party I was talking about, for example - it was Wyatt’s birthday. Or, I guess, hatch-” She almost went too far there, only barely able to stop herself in time. Wyatt hides his real self in public, right? At least he did so in school. It wouldn't make sense for Aleta to know that he wasn't human, then. “-yeah, birthday is what I meant.”

Aleta giggled slightly. “He does look like he came from an egg sometimes though. Like from that old Alien movie or something. Oh man, imagine if I edited his face on the Xenomorph…. Or whatever it’s called.” Aleta caught herself before she made it clear she herself was actually geeky enough to know what it was called with confidence.

“Since when you and Wyatt been *hanging out*” Aleta put emphasis on hanging out like you would expect someone to that was changing the subject quickly.

“Ehhh… uhhh… ummm…” Renata’s answer dragged on. This day was awkward enough as it is, and now she also has to defend herself from being in a relationship with Wyatt of all people? Obviously, Aleta did not say it outright… but the way she articulated that hanging out stabbed at her heart. “It’s not that we're hanging out, we’re just in the same group… since about a week ago, actually.”

“Mmmhhmmm…” Aleta scratched her chin in an inquisitive manner as if she had a goatee to stroke. “The same group? I don’t remember Wyatt sitting with anyone at lunch or anything. Where’d you meet? Last time I saw him... “ Aleta thought to herself. “I think I was at a part a few weeks ago where I saw him curled up in the corner. Admittedly, I did leave when things got a little hairy for me. Come to think of it, you were there too, weren’t you? Maybe you went home together afterward? Mistakes happen. I won’t judge. You know how many mistakes I’ve made after all.” She laughed to herself.

Renata answered with a snicker, her face blushing slightly out of embarrassment. “No, no, god no. I actually didn't even visit that party at all - not even showed up at the entrance. I, uh, had other things to worry about.” For example, spending that evening in your superhero costume patrolling the city. Withholding some information is just a white little lie, though. “Though, to be honest, I later regretted it. Last I heard, some crazy things happened out there, right?”

“I mean, I left before it got interesting.”

Not a lie. I did leave. But then again, I did go on patrol as Pitch when I did. Rena doesn’t have to know that though.

“Not really my scene.” She said, dismissive of the subject but absolutely lying that the party was in anyway bad other than getting crashed by some prisoners. “Alright. Fine. You didn’t hook up with Wyatt and there is actually no way in hell you’d hook up with Icarus. I mean, he’s dangerous.” She shook her head, actually quite intimidated by the young man. “I always get uneasy around him.”

“But still. Kinda weird that there’s a group of people that includes you and Wyatt.” She shrugged, inspecting the knives idly. “Oh, these are beautiful. Come look.”

“Look kinda sharp, I’d rather not touch them.” Renata muttered immediately after following Aleta to the shelf with lined up knives. Some were fairly ornate, almost ceremonial, while others appeared to be more simple, but dangerous regardless. Renata had no fear of sharp objects, no, but she certainly wouldn't swim in them or something. Her focus went back to something her friend mentioned earlier, however:

“Why’d you get uneasy around Icarus, though?” It was genuinely odd to Renata, even discounting her relationship with him. Aleta didn't seem like the type of person to be intimidated by someone of her age, at all… “I mean, sure, there’s some nasty rumors and all, but he hasn't done anything bad as of yet. It’s not like he’s a hideous monster or something, either - quite the opposite, I’d say he’s pretty cute.”

Aleta looked Renata up and down as if it were her first time meeting her. “He always looks angry. I know that I can get angry, but my emotions are always up front.” She looked at her friend’s face, inspecting it closely. “But there’s something deeper to him that you pick up on. I think it’s only a matter of time before he does something he’ll regret.”

Renata stared back at Aleta, doing her best to not show much emotion. Her friend might not have known that, but the words she said cut deep - even though Renata was well aware of the danger, having it be articulated by a third party rather than be repeated in her mind was a whole other matter. After all, was it not the same fear of Icarus doing something he would regret the reason why she solicited that promise out of him a few days ago?

“Could be…” the girl muttered out, losing eye contact with Aleta for a few seconds as she looked down, towards the ground. The weight on her shoulders soon faded, however, as Renata opted to take the conversation somewhere else:

“What’s next on our list today, by the way?”

Aleta paused as she saw her friend become visibly distraught by what she had said. Dammit. She reached out to comfort her, but Renata was soon moving the conversation elsewhere. Aleta let her hand remain still in the air as she considered pressing the issue, but decided against it.

“Let’s go to the pet shop, but I need to drop by the bank first and come back to grab one of these knives after, okay?”

Sam Croft/Blizzard
Leaving Wonder Island
July 9th, Noon-ish, Comic Book Standard Time

Sam eased the rental van into San Deigo traffic. That went rather well! Even Roy was, if not supportive, not opposed to his plan. He merged into the fast lane.

* * *

Sam walked home from the rental place rather than taking an Uber: forcing his muscles to warm and stretch would let them heal faster than letting them sit, even if he winced at every bump in the sidewalk. The walking gave him plenty of time to think, too. First, gotta read everything mentioning Rather and the city's contract with Warwolf in the last year. Second, expand my database to include every Warwolf person named or pictured with her. Some of them have to be her staff. Third, repeat step two for them for their staffs. That's gonna take forever. Time to write some scripts...

Outside Warwolf San Diego Headquarters
Overnight, July 13th-14th

Sam didn't know which was worse, the cold pavement beneath the tattered blanket he was lying on, or the smell of the sour booze he'd splashed on his face for the proper homeless drunk aroma. Warwolf might have high walls around their compound to prevent casual ground-level snooping, and they challenged anybody their drones spotted on the nearby roofs, but a bum sleeping in a doorway across from their main entrance? Shooing him away was beneath them, something they left for their SDPD errand-boys.

And so far, Alexis' gear was working like a charm: both the hidden camera and the hidden mic were getting excellent data. As were the ones on the roof. Sam smiled as he remembered that gig: the Warwolf goons had hassled him good as he pretended to be an air-conditioning tech checking out a compressor. But he'd done his homework, and had the name, uniform, and appearance of a legitimate A/C tech for the building. Snowing the goons was too easy: he probably knew more about cooling systems than the guy who designed the A/C unit, much less two corporals with big guns. So they let him install some "upgrades" as he messed around inside the rooftop unit.

So, now Sam had a view of compound with sound, and matching close-ups of everybody coming and going. He was getting close to finding the right people, he could feel it. Very close.

Shit! Dozed off for a second! Sam refocused. Well, I am supposed to be asleep, so it's not like I missed much. But that training Alexis mentioned... I need a break from the sneak-and-Google-search work.

Big Bob's Big Bikes Training Course
July 16th

Note to self: road rash hurts like hell. Buy leather chaps before next time. But Sam nodded as he walked to the toppled motorcycle nearby. Just like riding a bicycle, 'cept this one will try to kill you if you open the throttle too fast.

Young Bloods Tower Elevator
July 19th, Morning

Sam hesitated before pressing a floor button: should he thank Alexis for the spy gear and show her how well it worked first, or tell Wyatt what he'd learned? His finger hovered over the buttons for almost a minute before stabbing 'bassement'. Alexis seems like a back-office person. She probably won't be training with us.

Needless to say, both Alexis and Kirisvala had some pretty severe laughing fits as they watched Wyatt actually go through with his dare, swinging his hips as he sang to the tune of Barbie Girl, faking both voices on top of everything. It was the dose of hilarity that was needed to add some levity to the situation after the blunder that was the first dare with Elle and Renata, and things continued rather smoothly afterward, with a dare for Red and a truth for Wendy.

When Angelica's turn came along, though, Alexis was in for a threat. At first she was concerned, even alarmed, upon hearing Wendy's initial dare, and was thinking about how to help her friend weasel out of it or else find a loophole. It seemed only the girl's firm refusal was needed, though, and the dare that replaced the original one was practically music to her ears. Angelica's choice for a partner made her feel even giddier, and she had to practically stop herself from squealing at seeing her dancing with Jacob.

Oh we are definitely helping Angelica on this! Friends need to support each other, after all! She thought, unaware that Yoshi was no longer listening, before enthusiastically clapping and whistling as the couple finished their dance. Next up was Yoshi talking about how many bases she had hit with Red so far which, while amusing, just wasn't as interesting as what preceded it. Sorry, Yoshi-girl.

Meanwhile, Kiris practically turned beet red when she heard Yoshi's suggestion for Carter to fulfill the dare. "He's not goin' anywhere near my clothes!" She exclaimed after Carter's brief spiel, though it appeared she was ignored, as the blond boy soon asked her to lead the way. Letting out a resigned sigh, she stood up, waiting for Carter to make his question to Casimir before heading outside with him, stopping a moment in front of Alex.

"Hi! I'm Kirisvala, but you can just call me Kiris. I hope you feel at home with us! I'd love to talk but I have to help this guy with dressin' up." She said with her usual enthusiasm, and then led Carter out of the room.

"Alright mate, here's how it is: I don't want you near my underwear, plus I don't have this powder thing or any of those leggin's and heels. But! I know who does and I'm helpin' you, so follow me!" She said, leading the way towards one of the other team girls' room. It didn't take them long, and once they arrived, Kirisvala put her claw to the doorknob. Naturally, it didn't budge, but the Hadrian was hardly disheartened. Rather than resort to anything more drastic, she began singing one of her spellsongs and after a brief wait, she turned the doorknob again, gaining entry unimpeded.

Walking into the room, Kiris pointed at the wardrobe. Upon taking a look, Carter would undoubtedly notice that what was inside was the type of clothing Yoshiro wore. A deliciously clever revenge plot that highlighted Kirisvala's capacity for coming up with deliciously clever revenge plots for something as insignificant as a truth or dare game.

Not that she had any malice in her bones, she just thought it'd be funny.

"Hurry up! If you need any help, I'll be outside." The Hadrian said cheerfully before walking out the door.

Casimir Herman July 17th
The Mario Kart game regularly swung between infuriating and fun as hell for Casimir. These crowd games were always the trickiest like that. After a while Renata suggested that the team play something everyone could join in at once. Which was a good idea as there was a limited amount of controllers anyways. The game she suggested was quite a daring one: Truth or Dare. Back home this was a game he both feared and relished. The dares fueled his need for the occasional adrenaline rush but the truths just made him unconformable no matter what the truth was. This fifty-fifty chance was in and of itself a great adrenaline rush.

The game's beginning was quite somethin. Elle was dared to get an ice cube into Renata's mouth. Casimir thought such a risky dare would be too much for a party with a really laid back atmosphere like this one. However, Casimir had enough self awareness to realize he found the image of two very attractive girls kissing extremely hot. Fortunately, his morals were to stalwart to actively endorse his teammates being made do something so uncomfortable. he just hoped Yoshi wasn't in the mood for reading the minds of the boys right now, especially his. Good thing Roy put his foot down and outlawed such types of dares.

Kiris got a truth for what kind of villain she wouldn't like going up against. Her answer made sense considering her nature. Casimir sort of agreed with her sentiment as well. In what tantamounts to a war crime, Kiris dared Wyatt to sing the Barbie song. Poor guy's gonna need years of therapy, amusingly thought Casimir. Wyatt in turn dared Red to show the group his internet history. Now this was a spicy dare. Sadly, there was nothing incriminating. Just a bunch of search for bike parts. Which reminded Casmir, he should change the oil on his soon.

"Nothing Wendy couldn't find if she wanted," said Casimir. If anything juicy could be found only Wendy would be capable of finding it.

Red dared Wendy about what her parents thought of joying the team. Big mistake as it seemed to be touchy subject as Casimir learned she was a foster kid although Wendy seemed cool to actually answer. Frost Queen was dared next to do a face-reveal but no surprise she refused. Instead she danced with the new team nurse to that ear worm of a song, Let it Go. Renata was mildly dared to recall a dream of hers. It was a pretty standard weird dream. But oh boy, Casmir was not mentally prepared for how amused he'd be with Renata daring Yoshi to reveal how many bases she'd hit with Red. He had to basically suffocate himself to stop from laughing out loud. She admitted to first base which was fair, the two hadn't been dating that long.

Next turn was a real doozie as Carter was dared to go into a dress. Fittingly, he embraced the dare completely and even offered to go above an beyond even. He was going to leave with Kiris for dress pick up but at the last second Carter spun the bottle. It ended up landing on Casimir. Oh dear.

"So...Casimir, you know the drill, which one?"

Casimir thought for a few seconds, putting the pros and cons of each option against each other. At the end he decided on a simple dare. Maybe it would be a funny one that make his team laugh. ""Truth!" Wait what? Why did he say truth? He wanted a dare! Stupid brain, thought Casimir.

"Alright. Here's my question; why did you move to San Diego? I know you're not from here, so why'd you move from wherever you moved?"

"Straight to my backstory, eh? I like your spunk Carter," said Casimir deliberating on how to phrase his answer. "Well, its nothing really exciting or thrilling. My sister is pretty great chef and she got an offer to work at one of the most luxurious American restaurants here in San Diego. So we had to move from our hometown in which is right on the Oregon-California border. I got in a huge argument with her before moving here since I could just stay at our house while she moved and I didn't want to spend my senior year in some foreign place away from my girlfriend and other friends. Our house has been with the family since the 1940's so it's not like I had to pay rent or a mortgage! I eventually gave in cause I was so injured I was a borderline cripple but that's a separate story entirely involving some mutants. I wasn't on speaking terms with her for a few months but we mended our relationship after graduation." Casimir realized he had rambled on for a pretty long time so he should ends things now. "Uhm yeah that's pretty much it. Nothing too superhero-esque. Hope that's sufficient. Good luck with the dress Carter." Said Casimir giving the aeromancer a thumbs up.

Once Carter left with Kiris, Casmir spun the bottle which ended up right on Alexis. Hmm, she's pretty outgoing so this could be interesting. The blonde tinkerer ended up swiftly choosing a dare. Thinking for a bit, Casimir thought of a good one.

"Looks like it's your time to shine Alexis. I dare you to do an impersonation of a random person in the room," said Casimir with his face beaming with a smile.

Nile Canaan | Mirage
The House That Doubt Built

Often, Nile’s patrols wouldn't take him so close to Orion’s base of operations, but his assigned route and mission was different than usual, and he was purposefully being sent through abandoned and run-down neighborhoods and houses in order to find suitable safe-houses for the organization. Things with Warwolf would be heating up, and Walt needed staging areas to fall back on in case the Labyrinth became hostile or an untenable position, which seemed a bit ridiculous to Nile, it’s an underground citadel patrolled by robots that never sleep, how in the hell will it ever fall. Regardless, he got out his pen and pad and marked through his final address, looking up at a run of the mill house that seemed a bit unkempt, nothing out of the ordinary so far.

Nile was never one for knocking, especially at houses that haven’t been inhabited in a good few years, so he simply phased through the door as if it wasn't there, stepping through normally. Immediately, Nile walked to a nearby wall outlet and plugged in a charger, connecting his phone to it. “Damn.” He spat, “No electricity, of course, who would even be paying for it after all this time.” He glanced at his phone, eyeing the last few digits his battery had left, figuring he had enough time to play a video game and eat up time in his patrol. He sat with his back to the stairs, the living room in front of him and the front door in plain sight, ignoring the dust-covered furniture and with his legs crossed in kid-like fashion.

He produced a Switch from his pants somehow, and loaded up a fighting game he had been obsessively playing the past few days, NASL All-Star Battle Royale, which was the realest take on superheroes and villains yet, so it said. Nile kept his volume around medium, but his quick clicking and vocalizations roused one of the occupants of the house, unbeknownst to him. Looking over his shoulder was a sweet little girl, who stared intently at the screen as Nile moved about with his character.

Now, Nile had caught the girl in the reflection of his game device, but had seen too many horror movies to jump and scream in fear, and chose to continue playing as if she wasn’t there, hoping that the ghost would just go away. A chill went down his spine regardless as she spoke, as soft as a cotton ball dropped on carpet, “Can I play?” Nile turned to face the small girl with a forced smirk, his heart beating fast. It was odd that a ghost wanted to play video games, she probably meant play with his soul or something, but he relented regardless.

“S-sure.” Nile said, sliding his controllers apart and giving one to Sarah while he took the other, setting the screen up against the wall as a battle screen loaded. “Now, have you ever played this game, NASL All-Stars Battle Royale?” She shook her head no, Nile nodding as he understood. “What about the All-Stars Battle Brawl?” Again, no, she communicated. “Battle Reborn? Champion’s Finest? NA Versus EU?” Sarah giggled as the game started without Nile realizing it, the girl mashing a few buttons and getting some cheap shots in against his character. “Oh! It’s like that, huh.” He said, starting the fight with the small girl. A complete novice, young too, Nile went absurdly easy on her and taught her the controls and special abilities of her character. “That’s Star Queen, high physical stats and energy projection is her moveset. I’m using Goliath, supernatural condition and beast physiology. They have some strengths and weaknesses that you need to account for.”

Without warning, a boy armed with a baseball bat swung as hard as possible at Nile’s head, but instead of connecting, the boy just spun on his ankle. “Hey now,” Nile said in response, “I’m in the middle of a game here, wait your turn.” Rather than laugh at the man, the young boy screamed in horror.

“Sarah! Get away from him! He’s a ghost!”

“Ghost…?” Sarah replied, scooting away from Nile and looking from the newcomer to Kyle.

“Oh no!” Nile retorted, standing on his feet and pointing at Kyle in an accusatory tone. “You little pipsqueaks are the ghostly children who inhabit this abandoned house, I’m just the protagonist in this horror flick!”

“You dumbass, we’re not ghosts, we’re just regular kids.” Kyler replied, “You’re a frickin’ ghost, m bat went right through your head!”

“I’m not a ghost, I’m just a guy with superpowers!” Nile replied, Sarah gasping and looking at the video game on pause, and then back at Nile.

“Superhero…” She whispered, looking at Nile with starry eyes.

“It was freaky as hell!” Kyler yelled, the other kids peeking down the stairs at the commotion. Nile noticed them watching and put his hand on his forehead, realizing he was getting in too deep for what would have been a safehouse. “What the hell are you doing playing video games in an abandoned house anyways?”

“First of all, language.” Nile stated, “Second of all, I seek thrills and chills and happened to find both when I came upon the little orphans that could.” He pointed a finger at Sarah, who smiled at Nile in a sweet manner. “That one in particular almost gave me a heart attack when she asked to play video games, who does that to a stranger walking in their house?”

“She’s six!” Kyler replied, the other kids quickly coming down from the stairs carefully. “Hey, no, stay upstairs, everything is fine.”

“You have video games?” One of the children quickly said, ignoring Kyle for a moment. The dreamy-eyed youths all looked excited to play a game for once, having been concerned with survival and getting along that fun had taken a backseat somewhat. Nile sighed in an exaggerated manner as the kids hurried past him and loaded up the Switch without his permission, Sarah taking one controller and showing the others how to button mash to victory. Nile shook his head at the lack of talent for a fighting game, and instead looked at Kyle for a moment. “What?” He demanded, Nile giving a smirk.

“My name’s Nile, nice to meet you.” He said with a cheery voice, Kyle grumbling under his breath.

“Kyle, nice to meet you, too.”

Asumar Masaki

"Humans are quite stubborn, Asumar. I said it once and I'll say it again: They're awfully bold for being made mostly of water. Though you look human to me." He replied leaning against the pile of vehicles he ruined. "And neither. My kind has owned this world for longer than you've been alive. Too much for me to explain in the seconds we have before they retaliate." Kaban explained as he looked over the "barricade" of vehicles to see an IFV rolling in, however this one had a unique weapon mounted on the top of it rather than the standard cannon alongside several other things he hadn't seen the humans use before: powered armor. Quite a hefty suit as well, it was almost big enough to look him square in the eye. "Oh? This is new. Hold onto your hair, they're rolling in what I assume is the heavier weaponry. They're probably mad that I keep smashing their toys."

True enough, the IFV pushed passed the "barricade" flanked by several large juggernaut suits. Four of them, plus the vehicle. "This is your first and final warning! Surrender, or we will use lethal force!"

Kaban snickered. From what he'd seen so far, he wasn't too impressed with the human's definition of "lethal" force. He'd seen worse. "I didn't surrender the other times, so what gives you the idea that I'm going to do it now?" He asked, striding in the most condescending way and leaning against the vehicle. "In the event you missed it, you all haven't managed to do more than impede me for a few moments. So why would I surrender?" He asked as the weapon mounted on the vehicle aimed directly at him. "Tell you what, since you caught me in a good mood, I'll let you have the first shot." Kaban didn't feel the slightest bit threatened as he backed a few steps away from the IFV and stood in the firing line of the weapon as it whirred to life. Sure there were a few humans who could give him a challenge, but these were not the fun kind of humans. Just normal ones wielding old fashioned projectile weapons. He'd let them fire whatever toy they brought with them and leave, letting them know that he was not someone they should approach with as much bravado. "Fire when ready!" He taunted.

"You have to establish dominance Asumar. When they come at you with force, you make an even bigger show and put them in their-" He was cut off by a bright red beam that emitted from the mounted weapon and seared his chest and was bright enough that he reflexively brought his arms up to guard his face. The laser burned away scale and flesh down to the bone, making a visible burn across his chest and incinerating his left hand down halfway his forearm, and letting the laser hit his face.

When it finally stopped, half of the scales and flesh had been removed from his head, leaving it somewhat still covered, but most of his skull was showing and one of his eyes was completely gone.

There were no words, only an unbelievably livid dragon charging at the vehicle while every Juggernaut moved to blockade him. All four tackled him at the same time, forcing the large dragon to the ground.

Not that Kaban had stopped thrashing. His one remaining hand caught the leg of the power suit and had crushed it such so that the both the leg of the suit and the pilot's were most likely to never be used again, and swung it like a club, striking whatever he could while snarling at the top of his lungs.

"JESUS FUCKING FUCK! HOW THE FUCK IS IT STILL STANDING?!" One of the Juggernauts with a loose grip on Kaban's damaged arm shouted over the mic.

"KEEP THE PRESSURE ON! HE CAN'T KEEP THIS UP WITH THOSE INJURIES!" The one who was in front of Kaban grabbed a hold of his horns to try to force him to the ground. Kaban responded by smashing his head into the Juggernaut with such force that the pilot lost consciousness.

"I WILL KILL EVERY KRUTING LAST ONE OF YOU!"

Oh boy, the press was going to have a field day with this.

Renata Martinez, the heroic Stella!

The time between the call to Icarus and the landing in the courtyard on Balboa St., including dressing up, running out of the tower without bothering to not alarm anyone, and finally leaping from building to building with her plasma blasts, gave Renata plenty of time to think. Think over all of the possible results of their meeting, of which there were hundreds, and think of a basic plan of action.

What if Blackout does not show up, perhaps fearing her like the rest of the hero community? Then she'll try to hunt him down the old fashion way - searching the city and visiting all of the places she believed either Icarus or Blackout could be perched in.

What if Blackout suddenly attacks her, again, out of fear? Well, then a battle will take place. Truth be told, this is the reason why Renata picked the courtyard as their meeting spot - it is a wide, open area with little to no electric devices. Should the worst option take place, Renata will have the advantage.

What if Blackout comes up to her without fear, believing her to be his supporter? Well...

That's what she was about to put into practice, apparently. Not long after Renata landed in the center of the courtyard, Blackout appeared as well, dropping his guard, putting on a smile and approaching her. The heroine turned to face him, her face bitter, yet determined.

At the very back of her mind, a tiny thought gnawed at her that the option she chose during her trip here was wrong. There's got to be something suspicious about this, right? Blackout told her that he doesn't kill people, he would not suddenly break his own rule out of nowhere. If he really was a murderer, he would not be so excited to meet her, either. Rather, he'd probably be a lot more wary and suspicious.

Renata pushed that thought aside for now, and her right hand, still hanging next to her thigh, formed into a finger gun.

I'm sorry. But if I don't do this, I cannot call myself a heroine.

Renata suddenly raised her right hand and aimed the finger gun at between Icarus's eyes. A small red dot would appear on that spot in the vigilante's face - a little bit of light was being emitted from the heroine's finger to help her aim. And, as Renata imagined, it could also serve as a warning that that laser could become more than just a teacher's laser pointer at will.

"For three first degree murders, assaulting numerous police officers and resisting arrest..." the heroine spoke. "You're under arrest, Blackout."

"Oho?" Alexis said with a smirk on her face as she heard the dare that Casimir had in store for her. Now, of course she'd gone with a dare: she didn't think there was anything interesting enough that people could ask her if she picked truth, and she was sure that the great Kabuto would think of a suitable challenge for someone such as her; in that regard, she was not disappointed. She looked up thoughtfully, putting a finger to her chin as she considered her options for a moment, before nodding to herself.

"Well, okay! I'm just going to warn you, you're getting a lot more than you bargained for." She said, before looking at the rest of the team. "Oh, whoever happens to be the victim of my poor acting skills, don't hold a grudge against me, okay? Pretty please with lemon squeeze~!" She said in as sweet a voice as she could manage, before standing up and skipping over to where Wyatt was conversing with Alex. With practiced grace, she plucked the disguise projector from Wyatt's head. "Excuse me!" She spoke quickly, before skipping back to the center of the Truth or Dare circle.

Lifting up the headpiece a little, she spent several seconds fiddling with it before placing it over her head. Then, she cleared her throat--not that she needed it--before beginning the little routine that she had put together in her head in the span of a few seconds. Suddenly, the hologram projector kicked in, and Alexis changed. Not physically, since she was pretty sure that would've been considered cheating, but her clothing changed to a black superhero outfit. The same outfit, in fact, as that of a certain former member of the Justice Queens, one known as Nightshade. Fitted to her significantly smaller frame, of course.

Alexis began walking without moving from her spot, a technique she had practiced during an entire weekend during finals, bored out of her mind. She had a funny gait, not one that NIghtshade would be seen with, but she was going to make a parody here anyway, so he didn't care much. "Time for another patrol around San Diego! It's not as nice as New York, but it still deserves to be protected!" She said, making her voice as deep as she could manage; it wasn't too close an impersonation of Roy's voice, but it was enough.

Suddenly, she jumped off to the side, her outfit changing to an orange jumpsuit. "A-ha! I've found you Nightshade! Time to sleep with the fishes!" She said, making her best stereotypical villain voice. Another hop, and she was back to being Roy.

"I don't think so, evildoer. Prepare to face the night!" The blonde girl spoke, striking a heroic pose before making a small combination attack against the air in front of her; she learned things pretty quickly, so of course she knew a little bit of martial arts as well! With that over, she struck another pose, this time one of victory, and then looked to the left, as if something had caught her attention.

Another little hop. Now Alexis was dressed in a pretty casual outfit. One a young Asian girl might wear to a party, though it looked slightly roughed up. "Oh my god it's Nightshade! My hero! I can't believe the Nightshade himself came over to save me!" She spoke in a stereotypical teenage fangirl squeal, no doubt hurting the ears of some of her teammates. No matter, it made for a more real experience!

Hop. "You're welcome, respectable citizen! I would kiss you, but you're not socially awkward enough for me. Perhaps if some dangerous vigilante without superpowers came along, you could hook up with him instead." She stated.

Hop. Now she had a fancy leather jacket on her shoulders, and a red domino mask on her face which barely did a thing to hide her identity. "Nightshade!" She pointed dramatically. "I have been trying to track you down! It is time to see which one of us is the better edgelord once and for all. I challenge you to..." The girl trailed off, making a dramatic pause. "...A pushup contest!" Hop. Exaggerated gasp.

Hop. "Mask... If you're certain you want to challenge me, then so be it! May the best win!" She said.

Hop. While acting as the Mask, Alexis began doing some one-handed pushups. Pretty impressive she was sure, knowing that nobody expected the tiny blonde who spent like twenty hours a day in a lab to have the strength to pull it off. After a few dozen, she stood up and made another hop. This time, she began doing them on her side, lifting herself up with only her pinky finger. Far more impressive, she was sure.

Hop. She knelt on the ground, breathing heavily. "Am I... defeated?"

Hop. She ran over to where she had knelt on the ground previously. "You know, for someone who just lost a challenge... You're pretty hot."

Hop. "Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, Mask! What's important is to learn from our mistakes. I will leave you to love each other now, but remember there will always be a place for you on my team!"

Hop. "You have a team?"

Hop. Alexis continued moving in place with her funny, completely out-of-place walk, seemingly taking some distance from Red and Yoshi. Suddenly, her phone rang, and she pulled it out of a pocket that wasn't supposed to be on Nightshade's outfit in the first place, tapping at it. It didn't seem to stop ringing, however, as more tapping ensued. She seemed to grow frustrated pretty quickly, starting to fidget and then outright juggling her phone. "What is this witchcraft! I just want to answer a call!"

Hop. Now she was dressed in a stylish black and purple blouse and had a little skull-shaped pin on her hair. Then, without saying a single word, she acted as if she was tapping someone on the shoulder. Then she put her hands behind her back, waiting patiently.

Hop. She turned around, looking curious. "Ah, hello there. Forgive me if my yelling upsets you, I was just trying to answer a call, but my phone seems to be rebelling against me. Would you happen to be able to help with this?" She said, tossing the phone up into the air.

Hop. Alexis nodded and caught the cellphone as it fell. Then, she simply held it in her hands and stared intensely at it for several seconds. After this, she lightly tossed it into the air again.

Hop. She caught the phone effortlessly, before continuing to speak in her attempt at a deep, boastful voice. "Why, thank you, attractive raven-haired lady! But I must ask, why do you not speak?"

Hop. "Oh, my apologies, I was just so intimidated by your stunning physique that I couldn't muster the courage to try and speak."

Hop. Alexis made a few more poses, as if trying to show off her muscles, muscles which she of course lacked, being a small teenage girl with a particularly unimposing body. "Yes, I must admit, I am quite ripped, which garners me quite a bit of attention from the opposite sex. However, my dark past has made me look down on superficial things like popularity, and I only yearn for a socially awkward girl to love."

Hop. "Oh, I am socially awkward! Kiss me!"

Hop. The blonde girl leaned forward, placing one of her hands such that it appeared as if she was holding someone else by the waist, and doing the classic 'put your hand next to your face and make lots of smacking noises with your mouth' maneuver with the other one, simulating the newly-formed couple passionately making out. After a while of this, she straightened up. "Why, that was very satisfying and I look forward to doing it again later. But now, duty calls, and I must quite literally answer the call. Thank you, attractive raven-haired lady!" She said, before grabbing her phone and tapping at it. "Yes?"

Hop. This time another new outfit appeared, a pair of jeans and a T-shirt of the Los Angeles Stars; a limited edition from 1995, in fact, featuring the former captain of the Stars, who rescued the Excelsior kids from their captors. Legend had it that only six copies remained. "Dude, I'm so glad you picked up, I need tips for talking to girls!" She said, sounding desperate.

Hop. "Ah, my good friend, my eternal sidekick, so glad to hear your voice!" She boomed. "If you find yourself in need of talking to a member of the opposite sex, I can think of no better advice than to be confident in yourself and act naturally."

Hop. "Easy for you to say! You're you!"

Hop. "Hmmm, excellent point my friend. You're as sharp as always, no wonder you're always at the top of your class!" She exclaimed. "Now, if my previous advice does not seem to work, then be confident in me, and act more like me." She stated.

Hop. "Even if the girl has a tail?"

Hop. "Especially if the girl has a tail."

Hop. "Thank you so much, dude, you're the best!" She said, before covering her mouth and speaking in a low voice, as if she was very far away, her accent changing to imitate someone else. "Hi! I'm ready for another day of actin' all cheerful and adorable and stuff!"

Hop. The girl tapped at her phone once again, pocketing it and taking a deep breath. "Ah, another day of good deeds and criminals beat up! And it appears that in the way, I have managed to find love. Such are the joys of being a hero!" She spoke proudly, before turning to look at each and every one of the Young Bloods present in the eyes. "And remember kids, if you want to pick up lots of girls, be more like me! That's it for today!" She spoke, before reaching up to her head and pulling off the hologram projector, leaving her with the same yellow and orange dress from before. Then, she bowed deeply, awaiting her well-deserved applause.

After gracefully accepting whatever compliments were sent her way, if any, Alexis sat down and spun the bottle, which promptly landed on Alex. She made the obligatory question, and the boy picked truth. Easy enough.

"Alright, since you're the new guy I'll go easy on you." She smiled deviously, before putting on her best Disney princess voice. "Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the prettiest one of all?"

As Alex sat down with the group, one of the guys, Wyatt, introduced himself. He seemed nice enough, and even offered to team up with him for training that was supposedly coming up. Alex nodded, “I mean sure, I’d be down to team up. But I don’t have that much experience really pushing my power so I don’t know how useful I’m gonna be.” he said, with a chuckle, “As for truth or dare… uh… I guess I’d be down for a round.”

Nearly as soon as Alex accepted, every synapse in his brain fired off screeching at him for doing such a thing. As his heart rate increased at the potential thought of advanced level social interaction, he began to calm himself down. What were the chances, in a room full of people, that it would land on him. Pretty small he figured. As equations zoomed around his head while he tried to figure out what the chances exactly were, there happened to be a development. The worst thing imaginable occurred. The bottle had landed on him. Jesus Mary Mother of Satan’s left nipple it was him. This was DEFCON 1. As every possible embarrassment flew around in his head, he was asked the dreaded question.

“Truth or Dare.”

“Uhhh um.” Alex stuttered, struggling to speak as he tried to work out in his head what would be the least embarrassing, “Truth I guess?”

As Alex spoke a small wave of relief flushed over him. Nobody here knew anything about him, right? How could they possibly pick that bad of a question? As the various coping mechanisms he thought up worked their way through his head, the question was asked.

“Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the prettiest one of all?”

Alex’s grip on reality soon after the asking of this question shattered like a pane of glass having a hammer thrown through it. As his face immediately turned beet red, barely concealed by his facial hair, he struggled to even focus on one thought. He quickly started scoping out various exits, praying that some kind of kaiju would drop from the sky and distract everyone for a brief window of time he could use to escape. But that didn’t happen, and as he looked around he quickly realized that he hadn’t spoke in close to 15 seconds. He quickly looked around. He didn’t know anyone’s names, but he thought he had figured out his choice.

“I don’t really know any of your names, but, uh, I think it’d probably be her.” he said, pointing towards Elle. Finally answering he began to calm down. His face was still redder than a superheated iron, but the storm had passed and he could just sit and be quiet.
