Remember, don't say anything here that's going to have Naja chewing my ass out for later here, Red thought to himself as he fought the urge to let out an annoyed sigh and instead did his best to force a smile on his face. "I think I've already had enough caffeine today to kill an elephant, so I'll have to pass on that," Red replied as he watched Aislinn give him an inquisitive gaze. "As for the latter suggestion, I'll try to do my best."

Glancing over at the various patrons surrounding them, Red did a quick glance about the area to ensure that no one was looking in their direction, his gaze hidden behind the tinted black glasses. No one seemed particularly interested in the pair, even with the rather flamboyant expressions being spoken by the girl sitting across from him. Perks of a big city I guess, he pondered to himself as he returned his attention back to Aislinn. She still seemed to hold a curious look in her eye, one that Red could tell meant nothing but trouble for him.

"I suppose that's a fair question to ask. I suppose the only way I can prove my good intentions here is to reveal some dark hidden secrets of our team that only someone involved would ever know about?"

In response to the previous teasing he had received, Red returned the favor by asking the question in a sarcastic manner, his voice clearly demonstrating he had no intent on ever doing such a thing. Still, he had read up on Aislinn, and from what he could tell she was a fan of the team. Granted, that was a fairly broad statement given the popularity the team had even internationally, but Red couldn't help but toss in something that would likely get any fan of the team riled up with excitement.

Astrid simply gave Mika a contented smirk as she heard the shorter girl hastily play off her surprise with a sarcastic remark. An explanation for why she chose the school soon followed, although they were hardly convincing. She was sure Ash was perfectly capable of finding her way around the city to a less cliche meeting spot, and while she was certain that the school's security was nothing for her, she figured the same wasn't true for her friends. Rather than bother arguing the point however, she chose to let Mika continue going on about how sneaking into Thomsen High would be a grand start to their adventure and whatnot. She was far from sold on it, but she figured she'd wait to see what the others thought of such a plan.

Suddenly, Ash jumped out from behind a nearby wall with a shout, as if to scare them. It succeeded to a fault in Mika's case, causing her to scream in fright and then turn to glare at the moth mutant. In contrast, Astrid blinked once and then started laughing uncontrollably at the situation, at Ash's costume and at Mika's over the top reaction. Taking a moment to calm down while Mika scolded Ash, the vampire girl shook her head.

"Telling her that you and only you are off limits, you're a real sport aren't you, mon ami?" She remarked, glancing at Mika, before turning to look at Ash. "That's a lovely costume, Ash. A little simple, but I'm sure the next one will be more elaborate, this is perfect for your first Halloween." She told the mutant girl softly, not wanting her enthusiasm to peter out so early thanks to someone acting like a buzzkill.

Looking back at Mika, Astrid took the bottle of wine and looked it over, raising an eyebrow. "Not bad. I didn't have you pegged for a wine lover." She said before taking a swig from the bottle. "Anyway, you should've come up with a better plan. Thomsen High isn't your usual run-down public school, I bet it has a lot of security. Would be a bad look if, say, some villain snuck in a bomb... or if four teenage girls went looking for a non-existent porn cache."

Kirisvala smiled brightly and returned the affection as Viviana gave her a quick hug before accepting the flower crown. The pink-haired girl snickered as she saw Viviana place the ornament on Casimir's head, irritating him. The exchange that followed only served to further amuse her, and she nodded along at the brunette's words. "Looks like it." She said before looking at Casimir. "Ya look real pretty with that Casi." She told the boy with a giggle, in hopes of getting a rise out of him. "Ya shouldn't be so grumpy about it. Where I come from it's an honor for the birthday boy or girl to wear the crown."

Just then, Naja approached, followed by their new mentors Katie and Cora, and congratulated her on her birthday. "Thanks Naja! I'm happy I could be here today." She said, beaming at the snake woman that had been looking after them for the past months. She was happy to see Naja relaxed and smiling after the amount of stress she had been under ever since the incident the 26th - she certainly deserved it.

Pausing a moment to think over her answer to Naja's question, Kiris continued. "Well there's a lot of similarities, for starters we really like makin' parties to celebrate birthdays too." She started with a laugh. "Back home during every birthday we had a feast with a ton of food, includin' the favorites of the person whose birthday it was, and they got to wear a crown like the one I've got and sit on a big ornate chair during it." She explained. "That's kind of similar to what we did for Mars and Wyatt right? I remember we had a lot of food and drinks and games. I even made Marsy's favorite food!" She spoke, fondly reminiscing of the fun she had that day. She and Mars weren't a couple yet, back then, but she treasured the memory all the same.

"Speakin' of which..." The pink-haired girl continued, discreetly casting an expectant glance at Mars. Would he have prepared her something special as well? She kept telling herself that it didn't matter, but a part of her was definitely hoping for it. "What did ya guys prepare? I'm hungry!"

Mars, Vacation
The bus ride to the beach went fast enough as being with his friends and getting to chat with them made time go by much quicker. However Mars was happy when they finally arrived at the beach front. The warm sun mixed with the cool breeze in a way that felt familiar to his home town, but the big crowds were a bit surprising. He suspected it based on everything that Renata had told them about the country, but still he wasn't used to it. San Diego wasn't the smallest place in the world, but he was now in a more populated and urban environment than he was used to. The feeling was far from bad though, in fact Mars found it a nice change of pace.

Mars headed down to the beach with the rest of the group as they found a spot near the water that didn't have people around. Mars laid down his towel and took off his shirt since the sun was barring down and it was very hot day on the beach. As Mars looked around the beach, he saw a beach volleyball court nearby and couldn't help but smile as he remembered the game they had played together one of the first days they had hung out together as a team.

"Hey, anybody want to toss a volleyball around?"

Mars, Party
Naja smiled at Kiris' response, "Well I hope this day is just as special for you" Before Kiris turned to Mars and asked about the food. Mars was smiling as well, though he was also a little nervous. He hoped that his menu decisions ended up being what Kiris wanted. Of course he felt like he knew her well enough to be confident, but he still really wanted to make her birthday memorable.

"Sure Kiris, the food is over here." He said, leading her over to the food table that off against the back wall of the living room. There was good spread laid out, largely due to Viv and Mars' reluctance to compromise about the menu. However among the items Mars had selected for Kiris he had gone with a largely Italian menu, knowing Kiris' love of pasta. Not only had he made some classic spaghetti and meatballs since he knew that was her favorite dish here on earth, but also decided to make a pizza, with various toppings he knew she liked as well as some Italian garlic bread. Mars also included a Hadrian dish with the help of Seris and Torvalt and made honeyed goat leg. It wasn't something he was exactly used to but after her visit home and all Mars wanted to include something her own culture as to prevent any homesickness.

"Dig in!" He said with a smile to Kiris and everyone around.

Kiris followed her boyfriend to the table where the food had been laid out, and her surprise at the variety of dishes was immediately apparent as her face lit up with excitement, but when she noticed that there was not only Italian food, which she very much enjoyed, but also a traditional dish from Annriven - or at least, as close as could be managed with ingredients from Earth - she raised her hands to her mouth in shock and immediately looked at Mars, the only person likely to be responsible as the rest of the team was unlikely to be familiar with Hadrian culture.

"Did ya make this, Mars?" She asked him, before glancing towards her sister and Torvalt. The latter lived here and the former had been around since yesterday, after all, so either could've made the dish in addition to Mars. But a smiling Seristella shook her head as she caught Kiris' glance.

"He made it. We just gave him the recipe and helped a bit with the ingredients-" She explained.

"I killed the goat." Torvalt interjected with a nod.

"-And he killed the goat, but other than that, it was all him." The redhead continued after the interruption, gesturing towards Mars.

Kiris turned back to him and her surprise turned into pure joy as she threw her arms around her boyfriend and pulled him into a warm hug, her tail coiling around his leg as it often did. "Wow! I can't believe ya went through the trouble of makin' that just for me!" She exclaimed, laughing happily. She had expected something like the pasta with meatballs - and she'd be sure to dig in hard - but an Adaian dish just for her was a wonderful surprise. "I really love ya." She said between laughing and squeezing him. But before long she decided to let go. She could always spend some more time with him later, but for now, it was time to eat and get on with the party.

"Alright, let's eat!" She said.

"Lady Kirisvala." Torvalt called out to her before she could sit down. Now that he had her attention, he walked over to a corner of the room, where a blanket covered some sort of furniture. The towering Hadrian pulled it away to reveal two handcrafted wooden thrones adorned with plenty of flowers and with patterns carved into the wood, and featuring cushions on the seats that were very obviously taken from someone's couch. Lifting one with each hand, he carried them back to the table and placed them at opposing ends for Kiris and Casimir to sit in.

"We figured ya would like these. It might not be a Hadrian feast but nobody's gonna complain about being spoiled, right?" Seris spoke.

"Right! Thanks ya both, these are very nice!" Kiris replied, giving Torvalt a quick hug before sitting down on the spacious ornate chair. "I feel like a queen already." She said with a giggle, grabbing the plate with the honeyed goat leg for herself.

At around the time that the partygoers began eating, some more of their teammates began to appear, offering their gifts and congratulations to Kiris and Casimir. By and large, the party had begun.

As the bus drove through Esmeraldas and into the station, Kirisvala's eyes were practically glued to the windows. This wasn't the first beach she had visited on Earth of course - Wonder Island had its own and she had even visited a few back in Australia - but the experience was still quite new to her, as she hadn't had the chance to visit anywhere similar on Adai in the past. And the experience of going to the beach while surrounded by her beloved friends was newer still, so it was no wonder that the alien girl was bursting with excitement. As soon as the bus pulled into the station and stopped, Kiris grabbed her bag and double checked to make sure it had everything she needed. Getting off, she overheard Renata's comment.

"It's no problem at all Renata, this place is wonderful!" She cried out excitedly, giving her friend a tight hug that lifted her off the ground. "Thanks for settin' everythin' up!" She added as she set the heiress back down, beaming at her. "I'm gonna go look for a place to get changed, catch ya in a bit." She said afterwards before turning around and setting off in search of a changing room with her bag in tow.

A moment after the pink-haired girl had departed, another figure walked up beside Renata, a tall blond dressed in simple blue shorts and a plain white shirt. Normally he would have forgone the latter item to bask in the sun and go for a swim without a shirt getting in the way, but after what had happened to him towards the end of Warwolf's occupation of San Diego, he opted to keep the shirt on. The lightning scars across his face were readily visible to anyone who looked his way already, and he felt no need to show the ones across his chest, stomach and shoulders as well.

"That looked painful. Are you alright? Is every bone in the right place?" Icarus joked as he looked at the departing Hadrian before turning to look at his girlfriend. He wanted to go for a swim and maybe pester Casimir before the day was done, but for now he figured he'd simply stick close to her. "Anyway, what do you want to do?" He asked, placing an arm around her shoulders.

As he waited for her answer, however, he also looked all around, trying to spot any figures that might be watching or lurking around the beach or the resort's station. He had very little doubt that they were being watched, and he'd heard nothing to make him feel trusting towards Sergio's henchmen.

A little further ahead, Kiris stepped out of a changing room she had found nearby. Instead of her black sundress, she now wore a swimsuit that consisted of a yellow halterneck top and a short black and yellow wrap around her waist, more modest than what other girls might wear to the beach on a hot summer day but still fitting for the occasion. As soon as she stepped out, bag still in tow, she looked around to try and see where her teammates might have headed off to, and in particular where Mars might be. Sure enough, she managed to spot him after a moment, just in time to see him laying down his towel and taking off his shirt. A slight grin appeared on her face as she opted to stay put for a moment and keep watching, though not too long - she was still excited to show him her swimsuit, she had kept it a secret so far after all.

She walked up to him and tapped him lightly on the shoulder before clasping her hands behind her back, a coy, expectant smile on her face.

"Hey Marsy, how do I look?" She asked him.

Renata Martinez, the heroic Stella!

Before Renata could move out, Kiris suddenly grabbed a tight hold of her, strong enough to lift Renata off her fleet and raise her up with flailing legs. Thankfully, the Hadrian quickly set her back down, excusing herself to go change in the beach booths, leaving a slightly panting Renata behind. As sudden and strong as the hug was, it nevertheless left a smile on the girl's face. It was kind of bitter that the two of them only got a chance to reconnect under so difficult circumstances - they should have had more of this and less of... hoping their friends survive.

As soon as Icarus approached her, acting worried in jest, Renata giggled lightly. "You build up a resistance after getting hugged by her enough times." She tapped her chin in thought as soon as her boyfriend brought up what they're going to do.

"Well sunbathing has always been pretty pointless for me, so I usually so swimming or play volleyball. Everyone's pretty friendly and don't mind new people joining in - and since a lot of them have powers, too, cheating with yours is not a problem..." she began listing, but her voice eventually died down. It wasn't that she ran out of activities in her mind - she hadn't even mentioned watching the crab colonies yet - but instead, the girl stopped, staring Icarus directly in the eyes, and eventually spoke:

"I'd ask if something was wrong... but I'm guessing I already know the issue."

In a more hushed voice, Renata continued:

"Come on, this is probably the one moment you should let loose a bit. I know, Dad's scary and all and we're right on his fief, but he's not gonna think any better of you if the first thing that's on your mind while you're hanging out with your girlfriend is whether there's any reticles aimed at you. He's human, too."

With the corner of her eye, she caught Kiris making her way out of the changing rooms, now donned in a swimsuit she had been hiding from everyone up until now, and immediately showing off to Mars - the worries began to calm in her mind and an idea hatched instead. Renata smiled, stepped back and spoke:

"-by the way, could you wait here for a minute?" Immediately, she ran off towards the changing rooms, all while scrambling to pull off her bag and search through it already. She's got several pieces all ready to be shown off, which one should she try out first? In the hardest decision of the entire afternoon, Renata eventually settled on the black-and-teal combo.

Proudly and confidently, a new Renata stepped out, confidently marching to her partner with her arms crossed behind her back, and asked:

"Soooo, Carito~ How does this look?"

So, against his wishes, everyone elected to go to the beach. Why everyone wanted to go see a beach when they lived right next to one was beyond him. Plus, they just had a long trip, why everyone wanted to make another long trip was, again, beyond his understanding. He did keep quiet since he didn't want to seem ungrateful. When they arrived, the temperature was a bit better than he was expecting. Not warm enough to go into the water, but enough where he could relax and take a nap in the sun.

So he changed out of the shaw he brought with him and into just his loincloth. Grabbing a towel, he found a nice sunny spot and unrolled it. He laid down on his chest, sprawling himself all the way out. His wings completely unfurled and closed his eyes as he felt the nice warmth of the sand and sun. Maybe the beach wasn't the worst idea.

Kiris and Renata popped out wearing their swimsuits. Now he just wished he found a way to take Sina along so he would have something to appreciate as much as he was sure Icarus and Mars were.

Casimir Herman October 14th

"Pretty what?" said Casimir bewildered beyond belief.

He could barely stand how much enjoyment Kiris and Viviana where getting out of this but he would never let them get to him. For if his name wasn't Casimir! The feast finally started and Casimir's mouth salivated at what had been prepared although Torvalt coming up with two thrones for him and Kiris at least made up for the flower crown. With a smug smile he planted himself on it and leaned back as a king would. After Casimir served his own mean when the rest of the team was arriving he figured it was time to give his gift to Kiris. He hoped off his throne and rushed to the kitchen counter and back again to pick up a heat insulated food container Jadwiga had given him.

"Might be a bit redundant but freshly cooked venison is for you," said Casimir sliding the present to her, "Meat is meat or I'm not the Great Kabuto."

"Oh oh! Are we doing presents now cause i can totally do presents now," said Viviana stretching our her arms to wrap around her presents before reeling them in. She handed one box to Kiris which was more of a rectangle but inside came a pink otamatone that had just arrived earlier in the week, "I betcha you'll like this Kiris! I'll give ya a hint. You like singing so that fits it to a T. Don't worry there's instructions! As for my man..." She handed off her present to him and eagerly awaited his response as she swayed side to side fluttering her eyelashes.

Casimir raised an eyebrow but he was still quick to open up the box to see several beetle shaped cupcakes all perfectly designed to match his favorite species. Holy fucking shit this is adorable. Casimir stared at the beetlecakes before looking up at her, "This is awesome! You're awesome!"

"Aw shucks when you put it that way...tell me more!" said Viviana twirling around one of her shoulder buns, "On second thought save it for later."

"So are we gonna try that out piñata thing outside" said Casimir to the gathered teams, "That weird sun face it has a decoration feels like its mocking me."

Mars, Party
Mars smiled when it became clear that Kiris was happy with his selections, a mix of relief and joy filling his mind as she pulled him into a thankful hug. "Of course I'd do it Kiris, I wanted to make your birthday special after all." He said, hugging her back warmly. "I love you too after all."

With their tender moment over and others starting to filter into the party, they moved on to eating the food that they had prepared. Despite his hesitancy about the goat he did in fact try the dish and found it to be better than he had expected. He also tried the pizza and the pasta but made sure not to over stuff himself as it was still early in the day.

When everyone had eaten and were chatting amongst themselves Viv suggested that they begin giving out presents. Angelica decided to go along with it, grabbing two cylindrical tubes from the gift table and first handing one to Kiris and then to Casimir. Kiris' was a print of a painting by a Famous Hadrian artist on earth named Venmathal. Angelica had been able to get it autographed thanks to a favor called in with the LA Stars. It was a surrealist painting of a landscape of the Hadrian home planet, and Angelica thought Kiris would enjoy it. For Casimir she had commissioned a drawing from a local artist online of his fight against the villains at the NASL tournament. The art depicted a particularly exciting scene of Kabuto slamming his opponent down onto the tournament stage.

Meanwhile Mars approached Kiris with a small box, "Here's my gift for you Kiris." He said somewhat nervously, hoping she'd enjoy it. It was a necklace that also had a small voice recorder and audio player imbedded in the back.

"So when you're wearing it, you can record yourself singing, or listen to yourself." Mars explained as he waited for her reaction.

Mars, Beach
As Mars continued to set up his spot on the beach, waiting for others to join him, he felt a tap on his shoulder from behind. He turned around to see that Kiris had returned and had changed into her bathing suit.

"uh wow..." Mars said, his cheeks burning a bit as he looked at Kiris. Her suit was more modest then a bikini but it was still flattering and the first time that Mars had seen her in outfit like this.

"You look really great Kiris." He said, blushing even more as he spoke.

Angelica Dalin: The Party

As Angelica watched, the party slowly began to evolve and truly take shape. More people arrived, and thrones were revealed. When the food was revealed, her stomach issued a command to partake in a feast comparable to the many celebratory feasts in her favourite stories. Still, after stacking a small plate, she realized that she was not going to come close to trying everything. The Young Bloods truly went all out, and Angelica found herself overwhelmed. Still, she was snapped back into reality when gifts started being given. Gifts were something she could do. Maybe use it to approach someone, start a conversation.

She grabbed Kiris' and began moving over to the hadrian until she saw Mars giving her his gift. And suddenly she felt really...awkward. She felt her face flush as she witnessed the adorable scene, straight out of a fantasy novel with a mighty knight giving his princess a medallion to signal his oath to her to return. Trying to hide it, Angelica shakily placed it near the couple, hoping that neither of them had noticed her presence due to their hopeful distraction, each other. She fled like a skittish cat, moving as quickly as she cold without all out running. The next challenge Angelica faced was Casimir's present. She really hoped he liked it, but the problem was, well, the present.

"Um, Viviana? Can I, um, borrow Casimir quick? I need to give him his uh...I cant move it on my own. Um...you know, the present."

Aislinn

"I suppose that's a fair question to ask. I suppose the only way I can prove my good intentions here is to reveal some dark hidden secrets of our team that only someone involved would ever know about?"

Aislinn blinked twice at his sarcasm, trying to get a read on him. Once she did though, she burst out laughing. Then, lowering her voice to a low hush, she formally introduced herself.

"Oh my, you're rather tense aren't you. Relax, and please, give me a name to call you by. I'm Aislinn McHarris as you've likely gathered. True blooded Irish cousin of Daniel McHarris, that you may know better as Spectre. I'd like to thank you for protecting him, by the way. He's not too bright, but 'e has a good heart. He might've been in real trouble without you though. He told me all about you. You took down a lion woman, with your hands no less. That takes a mighty, bold lad to do that."

Standing up, she waved down one of the employees and raised two fingers. From the way the nodded, it would be clear that she was a bit of a regular. "If you won't have a coffee, at least try their pastries. They have a divine crepe, with cream cheese, blueberries, and cinnamon. I ordered two of them, so please dinnae make me eat 'em alone. I'm no where near as charming when I'm nauseous."

The One Where Casimir, Ash, and Red Start a Detective Agency Part 4
November 5th

The official police report confirmed what they had already found out before arriving but in much more detail although it was pretty much all information Casimir already knew. They just had to find out where he got the mutants from which would definitely lead to where Ash came from. And then somehow rope in Wonder Foundation and how they held Ash captive for a year.

“There’s something off,” commented Casimir shifting around some of the papers, “I destroyed the KP Soneras three years ago but he disappeared for like a year before turning up again with the mutants. Where the hell could he have been?”

“Well I don’t think there’s any one place,” said the chief as he flipped over the stack to reveal a scarce few photos of the gang leader, “Looks like he was a vagrant around some of the nearby towns. We don’t have much but these were all the times he was caught on camera at separate times through the year.”

“Well that barely narrows it down. After the beatdown I gave him not like he could’ve gone far,” retorted Casimir.

“Well it’s still something. Plus bruises and broken bones aren’t forever,” the chief said slightly hurt, “It does show that he couldn’t have gone far that entire year.”

“That’s true,” muttered Casimir, “What about the mutants?”

“Well…” said the chief flipping over more papers, “From what forensics got their DNA was both identifiably human and a complete clusterfuck somehow.” The chief chuckled at the absurdity of it before quickly catching himself. Stealing a glance towards Ash as she stood slightly to the side, he shifted uneasily before clearing his throat to continue. “Pardon my language. But besides that we couldn’t really tell much else, not even gender or age. Their toys weren’t really sophisticated enough at the time for that mess of genes.”

“One last question,” said Casimir dramatically rising from his seat planting his hands on the desk, “Have you ever heard of Northwest News Station recently?”

“No? I haven’t heard of that name in decades. Parents always watched it at night when I was a kid,” said the chief confused at the action.

Casimir stared at him intensely through his helmet but he eventually backed off, “We got everything we need then.”

“Really that’s it?” said the chief, confused as Casimir began walking towards the window in the back.

“Yup see ya wouldn’t want to be ya,” exclaimed Casimir as he leaped out of the window and to the street below landing perfectly on his feet, “Those photos proving Bernal was near here is our smoking gun! Hell yeah! We just gotta get Red to get any missing persons reports from nearby.”

Ash wasn’t far behind Casimir, delaying only long enough to offer a polite ‘thank you’ to the Police Chief after he’d done so much to help them. Landing softly besides the other hero, the mutant’s features lit up at her friend’s excitement, his optimistic outlook proving to be contagious.

“That is great news!” She declared, pumping two of her fists into the air as their investigation leapt from strength to strength. “We are cracking this case wide open.” A happy laugh escaped from Ash’s lips, although the sound faltered slightly as her thoughts sifted through everything they found out. She glanced down towards the pictures in Casimir’s hands, pointing towards them with one of her lower hands. “He is the one who made me like this, yes? This Bernal?” Ash’s brow furrowed angrily. “I wish that I could have made him pay for taking me away from my family, and all of the others too. He was truly a horrible villain.”

“Real piece of work that jerk was but don’t worry. Made him pay enough for both of us and everyone else he crapped on,” bitterly spat Casimir as he showed off the pictures to Ash. Anger brewed quietly in Casimir but he squashed it flat as he had a duty to complete towards finding Ash’s family for better or worse, “Call Red to meet us at the edge of town. By the old transmission tower. We got some spots to hit.”

“Piece of advice: If it would’ve been worth anything, I would have already taken it.”

Letting out a startled yelp, the man flipped around and looked around to find the source of the voice. “Wh-who are you?! Where are you?!” he stammered out, scooting backwards on his hands and rear as he continued to scan around the area. Letting out a sigh, Red stepped out of the shadows he had been hiding in thus far.

“Leave it to a reporter to start hammering out questions right away,” Red replied with a small roll of his eyes before stopping a few feet away from the terrified man. Pausing for a brief moment to consider his answer, Red reached down with his good arm in an offer to help the man up. “Let’s just say I’m someone who has interest in finding out what happened here. If you can’t tell from my current condition, I’m all bark and no bite, so try to relax.”

Sitting still for a few seconds almost as if to ponder whether he could trust the redhead, the reporter reluctantly took a hold of the outstretched hand and hoisted himself off the ground. Brushing off the dust and dirt that had accumulated on his pants from both his investigations and his subsequent fright, he proceeded to give Red a look that was filled with both curiosity and concern.

“Call it either my own idiocy or my curiosity, but I suppose I’ll have to take that answer,” he said before suddenly reaching out his hand towards Red. Raising an eyebrow, the teen reached out with his good arm and shook his hand. “The name’s Steven, by the way,” the man continued after giving him a curt nod. “Investigative reporter of this fine trainwreck of a city I call home.”

Releasing his grip from Steven’s hand, a thought emerged from Red as he mentioned what he was. Play it cool, Red mentally reminded before speaking. “So my turn for questions. Two, to be precise,” he said as he held up two fingers in the air. “My first question is what do you know about this place? The second,” Red said as one finger went down before continuing, “Is why are you here? I know you reporters are willing to crawl up any hole you can squeeze your heads into if it means a story, which means you must have a reason for being here.”

Steven hesitated for a moment to answer, a small look of concern on his face as he no doubt held suspicion over what the young man wanted out of him. After all, it was strange enough for him to encounter someone out in a place like they were, let alone for them to be searching for answers. However, the curious nature that lives within all reporters prevailed over his sense of caution, persuading him to play along for at least the time being.

“A bit over a year ago, a fight broke out here. I say fight, but it was more of a warzone, given what I had seen of the aftermath. You see how empty and barren this place is? Used to be filled with industrial equipment but most it was scrapped in the battle. Those patches of planks on the ground everywhere? Lift them up and you’ll see craters meters deep. Officially, there was no evidence that linked this ‘final boss’ to any outside group, so the police declared it was a done deal to sweep under the rug,” Steven explained, a somewhat disgusted look on his face briefly appearing as he recalled the more gruesome bits of the story.

“Officially?” Red asked, raising an eyebrow at the man who in return gave him a small smirk.

“Yes, officially that’s the end of the story. With the police giving the public no further information and nothing of the like ever happening again, everyone bought in to what they said, and soon everyone forgot about the whole thing. Except for one person, of course, which would be your’s truly,” Steven said, a proud look on his face as he pointed a thumb towards his chest.

“And what makes you think that there was nothing more to that story?” Red asked, playing along as it was clear that Steven was trying to make himself sound impressive.

“Well you see, there was something really weird about the whole thing. At first, the police wouldn’t let any journalists near the scene of the crime. ‘Hazardous Conditions’, according to the asshole that wouldn’t let me past him. Yet after a bit, I noticed that there were some people who sure as hell didn’t look like cops and sure as hell not journalists to me snooping around the place. Everything was pretty damn chaotic at the time so I never got to see what they were up to, but all of sudden they seemed to get excited over something. Next thing you know, they’re booking it out of the place in a white van. When I asked the cop what the deal was, he said that the chief let them through. Well, that and a few other mean words I’d rather not repeat, but that’s besides the point.”

Red cocked his head to the side, a curious look in his eyes as he listened to Steven explain what had happened. Sure, he already had a general knowledge of what had occurred from the reports he had read, but hearing it from a primary source was certainly interesting to hear. But interesting didn’t correlate to enlightening, which is why Red let out a small frustrated sigh as he looked around the area.

“In that case, it sounds like both of us aren’t likely going to be finding anything any time soon,” Red said, his voice filled with a sense of frustration that matched his earlier sigh. A large frown filled his face, as the idea that he would be returning to the others empty handed entered his thoughts.

“Perhaps. Or perhaps we’re simply looking in the wrong spots,” Steven replied, his voice filled with a tone of voice much more the opposite of Red’s. This enthusiasm caused a bit of confusion to appear within Red until he followed where the man’s gaze was centered on.

“You don’t think…”

“Oh, that’s precisely what I think, young man,” Steven answered, a devilish smile on his face as he reached into his coat pocket to retrieve a small yet sturdy looking crowbar from within. Red hesitated for a brief moment as he watched the eager look on the reporter’s face before a small grin appeared on his face as well.

"...True blooded Irish cousin of Daniel McHarris, that you may know better as Spectre..."

Red's eyebrows shot up as Aislinn continued jabbering on, seemingly unaware of the surprise that had appeared on his face. Doing his best to keep his cool, Red silently thought to himself as the woman's voice became a soft murmur in the back of his mind. She's related to Spectre? That's news to me, Red thought as a small frown appeared on his face. If that's the case, that makes me wonder if she knows about my times with "her"... Shaking his head briefly, Red decided it'd be best not to press the issue for now. Whether or not Aislinn knew of his less than "heroic" moments involved with the Outriders was something that wouldn't be an issue for the moment, although it would certainly be something needing to be addressed later on.

"...two of them, so please dinnae make me eat 'em alone. I'm no where near as charming when I'm nauseous."

Red's attention snapped back to the conversation at hand, his gaze glancing over to the sight of the employee Aislinn gestured to as they brought back a pair of pastries. Reluctantly, Red nodded as he took one of the treats and placed it in front of him, taking a small polite bite out of it under the careful gaze of the woman across from him. It actually is pretty damn good, Red thought with surprise as placed the pasty back down.

"For now, Mask will work for a name, unless you've got any objections to that," he finally said in reply to the young woman, letting out a small sigh as he did. "And I'll apologize if I'm a bit...tense right now. You've sort of caught me in the midst of a lot of things right now, and baby- I mean VIP escort is sort of the last thing I expected to be doing right now." Sitting back in his chair, he forced himself to relax in his posture in an effort to appease Aislinn. "Look, you seem like a nice girl, so I've got to ask. What's someone like you asking for me specifically? I get that most of the team is absent right now, but there had to be a better choice than..." Red waved towards his arm to emphasize his point, a small roll in his eyes present as he did.

At the hotel room.

Annoying state surveillance listening bug infestation aside, Wendy had to admit being one of Renata’s friends definitely had its perks. For example, the hotel room she and Yoshi were in was better than even the rooms at the tower.

“Are you almost ready?” She heard Yoshi call from the other side of the door as she finished tying up the back of her bikini top.

“Give me a minute.” She replied, catching her reflection in the full body mirror in the corner of the room. Her hand instinctively ran up to the scar running from the top of her right to the middle of her chest. Jacob had offered to remove it, but as much as she wanted to she couldn’t yet. It was a reminder, both of how much she still had to grow as a hero… and how much she owed that son of a bitch when Roy finally caught up to him. Throwing on a T-shirt and a pair of jean shorts, Wendy grabbed a towel from her room and made her way outside.

At the Beach

Setting down her towel and taking the t-shirt she was wearing, and walked over to join Mars and Kiris. “So what’s the plan?” She asked. “Are we waiting for the rest of the team, or do you want to challenge a few of the locals?”

Halfway through their feast, it seemed that the others had the idea of breaking out the gifts, starting with Casimir, who got up from his wooden throne and waked over to the kitchen counter, before marching straight towards her with a food container in tow. Taken by surprise, Kirisvala swallowed her current bite of honeyed goat leg and took the container from Casimir's hands. Even before accepting it, she had already detected a rather alluring scent coming from within, so when she opened it she was not surprised to see a tasty looking cut of meat inside, though she beamed up at her friend regardless. "Thanks Casi, it smells amazin'!" She told the boy before closing the container. "But I think I'll save it for later. There's sooo much food here already after all!"

Next up was Viviana who, excited about the present exchange starting, immediately reeled in her presents from the nearby table, handing her a relatively small rectangular box and then turning to her boyfriend to give him his gift as well. Kiris smiled as she saw the present that the brunette had cooked - literally - for Casimir and his elated reaction. It was heartwarming to see that Mars and her weren't the only ones having a wonderful day. Turning her attention back to the rectangular box, she shook it a little to try and guess what it was, but nothing came to mind.

Before she gave up and opened it, another person came by, Angelica, handing her a cylinder of sorts. Curious about the shape, she opened the container and tried to pull out the contents, though as soon as she heard the familiar crunch of paper she immediately stopped. "I um, I think I'd better check this out later." She said with an apologetic smile on her face as she closed the cylinder. She knew how to handle paper just fine without damaging it, but since this was a gift she opted to take extra care with it regardless. Paper could tear so easily, after all.

Hearing Mars addressing her, she turned to look at him just in time to see him pull out a beautiful gold and white necklace and offer it to her. While it was only the last of a series of wonderful surprises she had experienced that day, the gift still made her feel overjoyed as she took it into her hand and listened to his explanation, even more surprised at what it could do. "Wow, Mars, this is so-" She began, overcome with emotion, only to be interrupted.

"Small." Seristella stated.

"Eh?" Kiris looked at her sister in confusion, then back at the necklace, observing that the chain did seem a little too short for her head. "Um..." She tried to don it, but it simply resulted in the precious stone hanging from her taller horns, the chain looped around them. "Yeah, it's a little short..."

Mars chuckled softly and took the necklace. "No Kiris, see, it opens up." He said, unhooking the clasp and holding the two ends of the chain separate for her to see. "You're supposed to clasp it behind your neck." He explained before handing it back.

"Ohhh." Kiris nodded. "That makes sense. But we can't really do that with these things." She added with a sheepish smile as she held up her hands. They were larger and more unwieldy, not quite ideal for handling something as small as a necklace's clasp. "So, um..." She trailed off, a hint of red rushing to her cheeks as she clasped her hands in front of her. "Maybe ya can put it on me?" She asked at last.

Mars was surprised at the request but nodded and approached his girlfriend, blushing as he reached behind her neck to put the necklace on her. It was not a situation he had expected and he was a little embarrassed, but also happy. "There you go."

Kiris beamed at the boy as she raised her hand to touch the necklace. It reminded her of the string one with a red crystal ring she had given him for his birthday, which he wore even now, albeit this one was clearly far more precious. "Thanks, darlin'." She said softly before trailing off into a contented silence, until her sister cleared her throat loudly, bringing her back to reality. "I'll, um, try out the other stuff ya said it can do some other time. Now doesn't seem like a good time."

"Alright, if ya lovebirds are done, I've also got somethin' to give." Seristella spoke up. From her belt she picked up a drinking horn, with intricate patterns carved into it and silvery inlays adorning it, as well as a small hook that allowed to easily affix it to one's belt for ease of transport. "It's about time ya had one of these to call your own." She said, offering her younger sister the exotic container. "I would've given it to ya full of mountain berry wine as is tradition, but someone decided to be a buzzkill." She said, briefly glaring at Naja for a moment.

The pink-haired girl smiled as she took the drinking horn, but rather than say anything back to her sister, she stared at the gift intently, her mind beginning to wander. Like Seristella said, it was customary for young men and women to get their own drinking horn and their first taste of wine on their seventeenth birthday, at least in Annriven and its surroundings - but another important part of such tradition that was not mentioned was that the ones who normally saw to this were the boy or girl's parents. This was impossible in her case, of course, but it still got her thinking that...

"Sis?" Seris spoke up to bring her younger sister out of her thoughts, suspecting what might be on her mind.

"Oh, sorry." She mumbled. "I really like it Seris! And don't worry about it, maybe we can do that next time we visit New Adai together or somethin' like that." She said to dismiss her older sister's worries. She wasn't that interested in the wine, anyways. "Did ya get somethin' for Casi too?"

"Of course I did! I'm not gonna be the one who ruins the fun by forgettin' to bring a gift." The redhead spoke haughtily. "In fact I did a little research on what modern humans might consider similar to what I gave ya, and I found just the thing for your friend." She said, smiling proudly before handing Casimir a coffee mug featuring several insects on the outside. It was clumsily covered in colorful gift wrap.

Seeing the mundane object that Seristella thought was an exceptional gift for Casimir, Kirisvala had to make an effort to hold back her laughter. As humorous as the sight was, however, it did remind her of something. "Oh, before I forget, I got ya somethin' too Casi!" The alien girl said before looking around, her excitement soon turning to confusion. She could've sworn she had brought it with her, but maybe she was wrong?

"Um, I think I might've left it in my room. Be right back!" She said before running out of the living room.

Whitney Alvord
October 26th

Ugh...ginger snaps. And pumpkin bread. Both would be really nice right about now, Whitney could practically imagine them coming out of the oven, hot and fresh. Sure, San Diego didn't really change much between "hot season" and "slightly-less-hot-season", but New York was the kind of place that burnt alive in the summer and froze over like Hell in the winter, and no matter how much climate change tried to meddle with the seasons, there was always a solid four year in and year out, and a fifth around Black Friday. So, when October rolled around and she still needed 60 SPF sunscreen, it was pretty easy to at least imagine that the seasonal spirit was in the air, and when she could imagine that the spirit was in the air, soon enough, it was pretty easy to actually get rolled up in it, pumpkin bread and all. Maybe if she didn't imagine it as much, it would be easier to block out her cravings. Whatever, she could deal with that later. If she kept daydreaming and wandering off, she would probably conk out right in the middle of the hallway. It wouldn't be the first time she had fallen asleep standing up. Closer to the third, at least from what she could remember. She had too much to do these days, right now especially, and to fall asleep right in the middle of her very first impression on someone new? No, she had to stay up. It would probably wouldn't be long until Angelica passed out anyways, maybe half an hour tops. She could slip away then.

Although, once they turned the corner and straight into the apparent library, Whitney could feel a little jolt removing some of the weight from her eyelids. It was...nice. Really nice, actually. Wasn't exactly much, and the all of the hard grey metal edges made it look a little hospital-y, but it was cozy. Really cozy. The whole set-up was pretty bare, consisting of two shelves packed fairly evenly with books of various shapes and sizes, a plump-looking leather couch on one side wall, a green bean bag on the opposite, and at the left and right sides of the door, a small table with a Keurig machine and a pretty handsome fridge respectively. Still, it was impressive, and even more impressive how she had managed to sneak all of this stuff up here without her noticing. True, she was in the lab 18/7 and her room during the other 6/7, but you'd think that somewhere along the line, she would have noticed something being moved. No complaints, though. It was a nice surprise, as was the offer for more caffeine.

As soon as she was through the door, Whitney was making a beeline for the fridge, pausing just before she opened the door to look back at and respond to Angelica near the entrance to the room. "Er, coffee, please. Black, preferably. Don't really like sugar, or cream, or anything like that..." she trailed off as she focused her attention back towards the fridge door, and once she had gotten it open, the small white cardboard box that gave the most tantalizing glimpse of the pastries inside, just a few cream-colored tips of dough with a hint of chocolate on top visible through a small plastic window in the side. There was plenty of other stuff in the fridge too, it was surprisingly heavily stocked, but that box was the sole focus of her eyes, which were now wide open thanks to the (frankly relieving) blast of cold air from the open fridge. With a slightly shaky pair of hands, she managed to extract the box out between a few jars, clumsily closing the door with her hip and flipping open the lid of the box on the way out. Down below, there was a group of about a dozen or so eclairs, lined up in three neat rows of four and each topped with the most perfect, even smudges of chocolate possible. The smell and sight were enough to make her mouth water over instantly, but she resisted the urge to immediately reach in and pluck one out with as much will as she could muster, instead focusing on marching forward towards the coffee table on the other side of the room with her eyes up and not even daring to peek back down at the open box. It felt like an eternity, but eventually, she was able to reach the other side, gently setting the box down and turning right back on her heel to go back and grab the plates off the top of the fridge. Why hadn't she just grabbed them the first time around?

"...I must say, this is quite the, uh, room you've built up here." Whitney said, breaking the silence as she began to make her way back to the table. "Certainly beats...whatever Casimir's been...doing." she said, temporarily stopping in place and breaking out into another deep yawn and stretch. God, she was so close to passing out right then and there, it would be so easy to go ahead and do it...no. NO. She had to stay alert. Questions, questions. "Where uh...where did all of this c-come from? The books, I mean." she asked in an interested, if slightly fatigue-dulled post-yawn tone, jerking her head towards the shelves at the center of the room.

"Oh crap, oh crap, I'm going to be late..." Whitney muttered, setting the massive box in her arms down on the ground for what felt like one time way too many. She knew she shouldn't have bothered buying a stupid gift. She had known these people for what, a month? She probably could've showed up empty-handed and nobody would've looked her way twice, but nooooo, her stupid moral conscious had to get the better of her. Really, she blamed Angie for this. If it wasn't for her nagging, Whitney probably wouldn't have attended at all, and instead stayed safely tucked away inside the lab, happily working away at one of her six in-progress projects. She had just gotten her shipment of industrial acid in for the gun modification she was tinkering too, and she had never gotten a shipment of industrial acid. Vast corporate sponsorship funds at her disposal for literally any research she could ever dream of, and she was spending it at the flea market.

Whenever it was the season for giving gifts and she couldn't figure out or find a gift to give, Kobey's on Sports Arena Boulevard was her usual fallback. Finding the Hero Rumble Remastered Collection for Casimir appropriately took about five minutes and change, but Kiris? She had no clue what in the fresh hell Kiris liked besides yelling at her and Renata, or what she needed, or what she wanted, or anything remotely in the way of something that would be useful as a gift suggestion. It's not like she could just ask either, it had to be, y'know, a surprise. So, that morning, right after coffee, she had packed up and taken a trip down to the Midway District, headed straight for Kobey's. Kobey's sold everything, stupid tourist traps, clothes, furniture, electronics, anything you could ever need in one massive open-air everything. It was by the electronics tent that she realized what the perfect present was, and it was by the electronics tent that she spent a full twenty minutes trying to haggle the damn thing down to an affordable price. You'd think a 10-15 year old karaoke machine wouldn't cost an arm and a leg, and you'd be right; it cost an arm and two, and that was an arm and two that she simply did not have. Even after she had gotten out of thatmess, once you factored in the traffic back home and the surprisingly daunting task of carrying both gifts up the tower through the elevator, well...it had taken a while. And now, she was going to be late. Actually, no. Judging by the sounds of chatter she could hear up ahead at the end of the hall, she was late, which would make everything worse. The living room was big, but when the entire team was inside, it was crowded, and she didn't like crowds. What if she bumped into or knocked someone over with this stupid box? What if birthday boy and girl were already finished opening everything up? All of this could've been avoided if she had just avoided dragging her feet so much, but she had, she had dragged them good, and now, she had to deal with the consequences. The box wouldn't get any lighter.

So, with that cheery thought in mind and one final push in her arms, she heaved the box back up into her arms and began to resume her progress down the hall and towards the living room doorway. Surprisingly, it didn't take long before she reached it, and once she had turned the corner to cross the doorway itself, an even more pleasant surprise met her eyes. Everybody in the room seemed to be in the middle of migrating towards the back of the room in search of what appeared to be food, leaving the living room quite empty and full of potential gift space. All of that stress for nothing! The nearest corner of the room was empty for the moment, and completely bare of gifts, so she made a beeline for it, half carrying, half dragging the heavy block through the last leg of the journey until the whole thing was settled down in the corner. Casimir's present was in her purse, no need to leave that lying around. Now, to find a familiar face.

Finally having the massive weight out of her arms and taking a second to scan the room finally gave Whitney the opportunity to really appreciate how much work had gone into this party. Beyond your usual array of banners and party favors, the whole set-up was pretty high gloss, with the TV blasting music loud enough to make her skull rattle, a banquet of food that could feed an entire army legion, at least two dozen balloons (from her count, at least), and what she could've sworn was a piñata with an engine attached. Must've been the "top secret" thing Mars had been working on. She could count at least half the team already here, and even more were trickling behind her, just adding to the clamor in the room. It was terrifying, utterly terrifying, and made her want to drop through the floor, but it was also kind of...awesome. Really awesome. Maybe even more awesome if she could actually find someone. From left to right, all she could see was girl with unnatural hair color, girl with unnatural hair color #2, Angie, a massive horned beast...Angie! There she was, talking to Viv, Casimir's girlfriend.

A few quick zig-zagged steps allowed Whitney to dodge past a few people and sidle up alongside the much shorter blonde, playfully tapping her on the arm with a slight grin to make her presence announced. "Hey, you two! Sorry I'm late, traffic was like a blood clot on the way over here." she said in brightest tone she could muster among her fatigue. However, that grin soon drooped into a small frown as she noticed the red coloration of Angie's face. "Girl, you look kind of red, what's wrong?" she asked with a hint of concern in her voice, seemingly completely unaware of the deep flush (and layer of sweat) coating her own face.

Ava Waldstein | Darklight
October 31st

Ava watched the screen with unblinking eyes, darting back and forth with utter precision and exactness as her character model on-screen did as she envisioned, her hand eye coordination simply unmatched. Mark, on the other hand, was wild and flailing, his head constantly moving and buttons mashing repeatedly as the two dueled on a street fighter-esque rendition of the NASL Championships. Ava jumped Mark's low and combo-locked him quickly, the teenage boy shouting aggressively as Ava slaughtered his in-game model, Captain Quake from the LA Stars, with Hardlight from the Carolina Bluejays. "Three for three, go the fuck home." Ava said quietly as Mark accused her of cheating.

"Do you sit in here and play this goddamn game all night until you're un-fucking-beatable?" Mark asked with venom, tossing the controller onto the bed and standing up, stretching out his back and cracking his neck. "I'm going home to sulk." He declared, heading for the girls' bedroom door. Ava smirked and nodded, shooing him away with her hand.

"Okay, homeless orphan. Go sulk in the tower where you mooch off the rest of us, you should get some game practice while you're at it." Ava replied, swinging her legs off the bed and stretching as well. "I gotta go hang out with my friends anyways." She continued, her phone buzzing as Mika messaged her and the other two. "...And now I'm going to be late. Fuck." Ava ran to her closet and dug out an old halloween costume from a previous year, Mark hanging around for a moment still.

"Friends? We're not hanging out anymore."

"Um," Ava spat, taking off her shirt and leggings and slipping on some tights quickly as she slipped into her store-bought costume, "I have other friends that aren't you, Mark."

Mark clapped his hands, "I'm proud of you!"

"Drop dead."

"Well, can I come?"

"No."

"Please?"

"No, but firmer."

Mark sighed, "Alright, well, have fun at your sad girl party. I'll be out stealing candy from unsuspecting children and young adults." With that, he finally exited Ava's room and left her house quickly, walking off into the night as Ava took one last look at herself in the mirror, sighing herself as she felt extremely dumb in her costume, and hoped the other girls wouldn't make fun of her too much.

Ava parked her car a bit from the school, not wanting to get her stepdad's car towed or ticketed. Still, she was late, and basically knew she would be the pack mule for the squad at this point. She hurried over the gate and made her way across the grounds, spotting her three comrades already waiting for her. Jogging slightly, Ava waved her hand and gave a quick howdy to her companions. "Hey! Hi, sorry I'm late. I lost track of time beating Mark at League Fight 2016 over and over again." She rubbed the back of her head while smiling, allowing her friends to take a gander at her costume. A childish, non-flattering strawberry store bought costume from some previous halloween, complete with green leaf hat on her head. She looked at Astrid and Mika's costumes, and then to Ash's simple yet cute sheet ghost, and felt a tinge of embarrassment.

"Oh, uh," She looked for an explanation, "I feel a bit overdressed." She noticed Astrid handing a bottle of wine back to Mika, and perked up a bit, reaching out her hand and getting a turn as well, chugging down a pretty big swig of the alcohol. "Haaa..." She breathed, shivering a bit as she loosened her muscles from the drink, "Keep that coming and I'll get underdressed pretty quick. But anyways, fill me in, what's the plan and how are we going about it?" She asked, her face starting to blush a bit as she stood there confidently, her costume mismatching her usual demeanor and creating a pretty funny scene.

The brim met her lower lip, a full sip, all the while diligently eyeing her magazine. The ice clunked and smacked against each other, her fingers slowly sliding inward as the chilled condensation lathered her grip. Lowering the glass, she mulled over it for a few seconds before taking a few more sips of ice tea. Nestling it ever precariously near the edge of the wooden stool, she paid little attention to it, instead turning another page. She was paying little attention to anything really, admittedly out of character for the consummate perfection. Shi appreciated the vacation; too often in her own line of work, the line between a getaway and a photoshoot blurred. A sandy beach wasn't exactly novel, her home was an island after all, but the quiet was. It was a sobering reminder when she considered how much she would of hated being here precisely because of that less than a year ago.

Granted it wasn't all that quiet either. Beyond the confines of her off-white lounge chair and matching umbrella, the rest of the team had their fun between her and the encroaching ocean. The occasional laugh or grunt would make their way past her ear-buds but they dissipated between the myriad of other sounds. From a wave crashing against a walk to a flock of gulls screeching as they flew by.

She ran her hand through her usual coiffed hair, heavy winds having done it's fair share to blow ever fine sand into it. Her disgust was audible though she wasn't going to let that ruin her day. "Uyy, ¿Quién pidió pollo?” The locals were certainly trying though. She was use to gawking, she outright expected it, but if she had to hear the same joke one more time she'll...she'll... do nothing probably. A multitude of prying eyes, a public not exactly forgiving to Teen Stars, as well as her allure being synonymous with her looks. Still it was fun to day dream. She could give them a clever sarcastic quip, she was never short on those. Maybe they'll go away. Or maybe she'll roast them alive as they screamed and begging for mercy until the smoke filled their lungs, cries for help devolving into pathetic whimpers. Spending their last few moments watching as their skin pulls back from their bone, contemplating a few scattered thoughts of deep regret.

A sly smile crossed her face, This is fun. She crossed her leg over her right thigh, a little pose to emphasize her physique. Not that she could even hide it in this cut out one-piece. The sound of her team playing volleyball caught her attention. She pulled her aviators down, watching them play their little game. It must be nice for the other girls on the team. They don't have to deal with this.

Mika
Ava, Ash, Astrid

Car lights covered a trio of girls as the final member of their group finally arrived, cutting off Mika's retort to Astrid before it has even left her throat. Giving a wave, she gave Ava her orders for the night.

"Well, as said, last one here carries the shit. However, I'm not really sure if you can carry my backpack while wearing.... That." Mika gestured to the rather uninspired strawberry costume her friend was wearing, feeling a twinge of second hand embarrassment.

"Okay yeah, next time, I'll help you Young Bloods with costumes. Ash at least tried, but this, this is painful. I don't think i have a spare in any of my photos either..." Mika opened up her backpack and rummaged through, finding nothing of use in such a situation. A pity, really, but what could you do.

She took the wine back from Ava and took a rather large sip, staring at the school itself. "Yeah, I didn't know if we could get in or not, but we could see if it's worth a shot. If that doesn't work, I brought some spray paint so we could leave our marks anyway. Been a while since this place has a good piece of artwork on it. After that, we'll see where the wind takes us."

Without skipping a beat, Mika passed the winner to Ash to hold and crouched, using her knee to balance her backpack as she took out a small wad of poorly organized photos. Most were supplies for the night, though others were a strange medley, including a picture of her room, a gas can, a strangely ornate knife, and a dark hair boy with wings. She sorted through them, eventually finding what she was looking for. Spray cans in three colors, a few water bottles, and her extensions. The rest she put away, and stuffed all but the extensions in a bit in dress pocket.

Ignoring the pain from putting them on, and barely wincing, she completed her look. "Well then, now that we are all here, who wants to check around back for a window? Astrid? I know you won't be seen."

Aislinn

As the hero who asked to be referred to as Mask starting digging in, Aislinn wondered if he has ever even seen a crepe. Perhaps the new experience would distract his questions for her so he would let his guard down slightly.

However, as she took a small cut from her own, careful not to let the confectionary topping onto her clothes or lip, this was proven a hopeless endeavor. He seemed just as tense as before, if not more so, and his questions kept coming.

"To start, Mask isn't a very discreet name. I'll come up with something better I'm sure. No one in the household know I hired you after all, just a guard. And to answer your questions, it isn't really my safety I'm worried about. However, that will have to wait until the car, this isn't really a place to talk about such things."

Aislinn returned to her crepe before trying to strike up some kind of conversation. It was clear that Mask was far from relaxed. Good business dictated that she tried to alleviate the stress, or she may never get him to listen to any serious matters.

"So, if I may ask, what are your hobbies when you aren't parading about saving people? Myself, I'm a fencer, but also like shopping and exploring the city. Even after the months I've been here there's so much to see and find, and every dining experience or attraction brings something completely new." She paused for a moment, ready to here his answer, but was struck with inspiration. "Oh, I know what I'll call you. Liam. The strong-willed warrior and protector. That's a fitting name, donchae think?"

Angelica Dalin, library

Angelica immediately went to work, making a beeline for the coffee machine as Whitney made a beeline for the fridge. She set the machine to work on Whitney's black coffee first, waiting to make her umpteenth cup until after her guest has received hers. Placing a purple mug with an owl on it underneath, she turned it on. The time would give her a chance to make up her mind as to how she wanted her own as well. French vanilla perhaps. That sounded good right now.

At first, in her fatigued haze, she hadn't quite heard Whitney, but her brain processed what had been said after a short delay. "Oh, um, a good amount of them are mine. Others I grabbed from used book stores. Just, you know, to fill up the place. The couch I got from my parents. It has been in the garage for a while and they were fine with me using it. Needed a bit of help getting it here though... "

The machine dinged as Whitney's coffee finished, causing Angelica to flinch slightly in surprise. It hadn't send long enough at all for it to finish. Well, she guessed it must have been.

"Oh, um, here's your coffee. I washed this recently. Its one of my favourite mugs, and the background of the owl gets like little starts when it warms up. Oh, see? Right there. So, uh... Enjoy!" To keep herself from rambling again, she shoved an eclair in her mouth and started making her own cup. The conversation seemed to quickly stagger, and Angelica wouldn't let it let it die this quickly. Dragging over the bean bag chair she sat down, trying to think of something, anything to talk about.

"What's uh... What has Casimir been doing? I don't really pay too much attention to him. He seems alright, but... You know, I don't really think we'd get along super well. Not that we'd fight but... there's nothing that I like that I think he might. Just... Nothing to do. I don't think he'd even bother coming in here. "

Bael had just finished spreading out his towel and plopping down, completely sprawled out for a minute when he was approached by Casimir, who he didn't even notice until he spoke up. He opened his eyes and glanced at him as he asked to... Bury him? He was about to just say no and go back to sunning himself, but he had always wanted to try it when he was a kid. Though he never got the chance. "You know what, sure. Just don't get any on my head." He replied. So far, aside from having to wait for so long to actually start the vacation, the beach at least had proven to be a decent choice.

Party Scene
As Kiris headed off to her room, Mars looked around and noticed that somebody had entered the tower and was standing hesitantly next to the door on the far end of the living room.

"Roy?" Mars asked with shock as he approached. He hadn't expected their former leader to be coming, in fact it was probably the last thing he expected. Roy was wearing casual blue jeans and a black jacket. He barely glanced up at Mars before speaking.

"I just came to drop off a gift for Casi and Kiris." He said simply, handing Mars two small boxes that had assortments of candy in them.

Mars' face fell at that response but took the boxes and tried not to be deterred. "Roy come on, stay a bit."

Roy looked at him for the first time, "I don't think that's a good idea Mars."

"Come on, everyone really misses you. I'm not asking you to come back, just say hi."

"Alright fine, I want to say hi to Quinn anyway." Roy said before walking slowly towards the center of the room.

Beach Scene
"Well, let's see if we can get some more people to play." Mars said to Wendy before turning to Shi who seemed to be sun bathing and glaring at people who were seemingly fans of her musical career.

"Uh hey Shi, want to join us in throwing around a volleyball?" Mars asked, she didn't seem like she was in the best mood but he thought maybe she would appreciate being included.

Icarus frowned as his girlfriend brought up the fact that he didn't seem to be completely at ease even here at the beach, all but scolding him for being so tense in the middle of their vacation. It was no surprise. After all, she didn't know about the incident in Los Angeles, as he had never told her, and so she had much less reason to believe there would be an issue - not to mention the fact that this was her father they were talking about. Still, he opted to remain silent for the time being. Letting her know would at best just make her worry as well, which would defeat the entire point of coming all this way for a vacation. He'd just have to play along for now and see what happened in the coming days.

Before he could respond to Renata's words in any way however, she simply... left. She'd barely even told him to stay put when she ran off, quickly disappearing from sight and leaving a rather confused Icarus behind. With a sigh, he resigned himself to wait for her.

Maybe she's right, maybe I'm just worrying too much about this whole thing. I have a good reason, but... nothing's going to happen in a place this crowded, right? I might as well enjoy the sun and the sea instead of watching my back so closely...

It was amidst these thoughts that he noticed Renata was making her way back to him, albeit now wearing a completely different outfit - a black and teal bikini that left little to the imagination. The blond boy was pleasantly surprised by this and when she asked him how she looked, he could only grin.

"As if you didn't already know you look gorgeous, asteri mou." He told her. Suddenly the prospect of relaxing at the beach seemed much easier, and the young hero placed an arm around the Ecuadorian princess. "Come on, let's catch up with the others."

It wasn't long at all until they came across Casimir and Wyatt, the latter lying on the ground while the former stood over him. "What's up Cas?"

Kirisvala's coy smile quickly turned into an enthusiastic grin as she witnessed her boyfriend's reaction to her outfit. She didn't often dress this way even while hanging out at the beach back home, so seeing Mars like this, his breath taken away at the sight of her, was something new, although she was quick to decide that she liked it. She basked in his compliments, her face flushed just like his, but her heart content.

After a moment of this, however, Wendy arrived at their side, wearing a swimsuit and a pair of shorts over it and asking if they were going to play with the locals or wait for some of their teammates to join them. Snapping out of her reverie, Kiris looked at Wendy, then at Mars as he replied to her, then back at Wendy. "Oh, um, I wasn't plannin' on playin', I don't really get this game anyway." She said with a bit of an awkward laugh. "I just came to wish him..." She continued, trailing off as she noticed Mars heading towards Shi. "Um, to wish Mars good luck." She concluded before trailing behind her boyfriend.

"Hi Shi. What are ya readin'?" She asked the teen idol.

Red raised an eyebrow at Aislinn's suggestion for a name, the thought of immediately turning down the name coming across his mind. However after a moment of thought, he decided that it would likely be best option to go with given the task on hand. I suppose it'll allow us to talk to one another without raising any suspicion. And there could always be worse names out there, Red thought to himself as he reluctantly decided to go along with her suggestion.

"Fine, Liam it is," he replied before taking a small bit of his food once more. Using the moment as an excuse not to talk any further, Red contemplated over what else Aislinn had said to him. Her household doesn't know about her asking for me then, huh, he thought to himself with a small frown that he quickly hid with another bite. I can tell already that this girl is about to get me in a hell of a lot of trouble somehow. Taking a glance at the girl across from him, Red felt a small amount of both nervousness and excitement build up within him at the mere thought of what she had in store for him. Alright, you've got my interest.

"As for hobbies..." Red paused for a moment, trying to figure out what to answer to the rather offhand question given to him. "...I suppose I don't mind taking my motorcycle out. The weather here's certainly a lot more agreeable than other places I've been. Although I've got to say, I feel like the true threat to this city isn't villains but instead all the damn traffic," he continued, a small sarcastic tone in his voice as he joked about with the girl.

Casimir Herman November 14th

The tide of presents soon began with Casimir receiving Angelica's gift which he eyed in confusion at what it could be due to it being in a cylinder of all things and he even put it up to his ear to shake it slightly before opening it. It was a breathtaking depiction against that masked freak at the tournament and the ass kicking Casimir gave him. It certainly did capture him quite well so maybe there was somewhere in his room he could pin it up in. Next was that blonde other Angelica who shyly looked over at Viv like a frightened mouse.

"Oh sure you can. Casimir Delivery service is having a free special today even. Ain't that right Casi-boo?" said Viviana slapping his back.

"What? Since when am I a pack mule?" blurted out Casimir but he sighed as he faced Dalin, "Well just point in its direction and I'll get it."

Before he could get it however it was his turn to get gifts from the resident Hadrians with the much taller of the two giving him an obvious coffee mug in gift wrap. He opened up and was speechless at the thing.

"Holy crap! This mug is great! It even has a Giraffe Weevil on it! I always wanted a bug mug! Now I can outdrink Red with his prissy little morning arguments he gets with over coffee!," said Casimir in excitement but he was blindsided by Kiris suddenly leaving to go get something, "It must be something really big and badass if she had to leave it in her room..."

Mere moments after the bloodied and beaten Young Bloods were unceremoniously dropped at the mall's entrance and the leader of the Warhounds delivered her sinister ultimatum before disappearing, other heroes appeared on the scene, rushing in to do what they could to help, but too late to protect the young heroes or apprehend their attackers. The San Francisco Rising Suns were leading the charge, but they weren't the only ones to arrive - some of the more mobile heroes belonging to other NASL teams in the area had also answered the call, as well as a few lesser known local names not affiliated to the League. Among the last group was a hooded man wielding a black bow and wearing dark metal armor, with a yellow smiley face plastered across his chest. He was not a longtime ally of the Young Bloods or anything of the sort, but he could not ignore a situation like this.

"Good God..." He heard Goliath speak as a boy fell unconscious in front of him. Not far from there, Cardinal knelt down to examine a girl she recognized with a nasty burn on her hand, and Radar rushed into the building alongside Seismic in order to look for the criminals or any missing children. Black Arrow didn't head inside, however. His attention was instead drawn not to one of the defeated Young Bloods - at least at first glance - but to a small pile of pink, blue and white scrap metal that seemed to stir lightly. He walked towards it, chains materializing from the shadow underneath him and yanking away some pieces of metal, exposing a tuft of blonde hair that was hidden underneath. As he approached, the shadowy archer heard soft groans coming from the pile, in a voice that seemed vaguely familiar to him.

Coming to a stop next to the colorful metal pile, he knelt and tossed aside a few more sheets and scraps, finding none other than Makeshift underneath.

"So it was you..." He muttered under his breath. He had spoken to the girl once or twice, when they worked together with Blizzard during the Warwolf occupation, and even with her superhero garb on, he recognized her easily, moreso when she opened her eyes and looked up at him.

"Get me... out..." The blonde girl croaked weakly.

Black Arrow nodded. "You got it. Don't worry, you're safe now." He told the girl reassuringly as he began getting rid of the last pieces of metal covering her. It may not have meant much when the damage was done and their attackers were gone, but anything he could say or do to make the girl feel calmer would help. Thankfully, at a glance she didn't seem badly injured, only in pain and, perhaps more importantly, scared. As he finished freeing her from the remains of her destroyed mech, however, he noticed something that made him freeze for a second and look again.

On the girl's cheek, just below her broken visor, a patch of her skin was missing.

"What the hell..." The dark hero looked on in confusion, noticing a glossy dark grey texture underneath. He moved to touch it, but stopped as he saw Makeshift wincing instinctively. He froze for a moment, unsure of what to do, but the girl's pleading gaze spurred him to action.

"Let's go get you some help." He said before lifting her up and carrying her away from the mall while lightly pressing her head against his chest, conveniently concealing the deformity from prying eyes. After a brief dash, Black Arrow hopped onto one of a dozen ambulances on standby outside.

"Get us to Justice and Mercy." He told the driver as he carefully laid Makeshift down on the stretcher. "Now."

The driver complied, and the ambulance drove off in silence. Silence from its occupants, at any rate, not from the blaring siren.

With the passing of a few minutes, the young heroine seemed to recover quickly. The pain subsided, as did the fear and despair from before, and eventually she felt fine enough to sit up on the stretcher, albeit carefully, and look at the man who had taken her out of the mall.

"Thanks." She said sincerely. Try as she might, she couldn't find any other words to say, so instead she simply fell silent again.

"No need to thank me girl, you kids had it rough back there and I'm always happy to lend a hand." The man replied in a more laid back tone than the one he had used with the ambulance driver earlier, feeling more at ease now that they were on their way to the hospital, though he was still shaken about what he had seen, and his eyes, hidden underneath the hood, constantly wandered to that spot on Makeshift's cheek.

"What was wrong?" She asked him. "When you were helping me earlier. You seemed surprised."

"Oh, it was nothing. Just..." The archer trailed off, unsure of how to explain it, what caused it, and what effect it might have on the girl. Still, she had a right to know and after a moment he sighed and searched through his cloak with one hand, retrieving a cellphone after a second and holding it in front of her. The reflection was clear enough for her to see, below her visor, the missing skin and the glossy metal underneath.

At first the girl was stunned, touching her own face just to confirm with her hands that it was there, that it wasn't just an illusion. Then came the clawing and whimpering, and the mutters of denial. And all the while, Black Arrow watched over her with dismay.

Renata Martinez, the heroic Stella!

"Aw, come on, it'd be way too much if I said that..." Renata mumbled under her breath, grinning and holding her hands behind her back when Icarus explained that she already knows that she looks gorgeous, and she wrapped her hand around her boyfriend's arm as the two of them made their way, coming across Casimir, Wyatt and Viviana, busy burying the Dra'Quinni among them in the sand.

At least, Casimir was - as soon as Icarus and Renata showed up, Viviana immediately declared that it was boring and that they should have a swimming competition instead. The two girls will be able to cheer them on, while the three boys will duke it out like chivalrous knights before the ladies. Renata smirked, slightly raised her chin and replied:

"Sure, that sounds great - if you wanna lose!" The girl then tapped on Icarus's shoulder with confidence. "Carito's gonna beat both of you so hard that you're gonna go back to your room crying."

Meanwhile, if Viv's phone was with her, it would suddenly ring with a video call - a panicking Mizu was on the other side. "Viv! Viv! Where are you? You just... walked away when I called out to you in the bus station, where did you go?"

With her magazine resting on her thigh, her headphones blasting at full volume, and her finger tapping the glass to the beat of the song, Shi was in her own little world. She turned the pages quicker than before, a little bored of the text, instead giving quick glances at the models. Though this was not to last, two figures were rapidly encroaching at the corner of her eye. Mars was walking towards her, with a volleyball in hand his intention was clear; Kiris was behind him, speeding toward her to make the distance between the two. The two heroines’ relationship had grown since Kiris’ visit though it hadn’t progressed beyond a hello, a smile, and small talk. Shi pulled up her aviators, “Hey you two.”

Kiris spoke first, taking center stage by asking her what she was reading. “Oh this.” She held up the magazine and handed it to the Hadrian, “Vogue. It’s a fashion magazine.”

Mars nodded before awkwardly segueing to his question, “Uh hey Shi, want to join us in throwing around a volleyball?”

Sitting up properly, Shi tilted her head behind him to see who else was playing. She was hesitant, she knew how competitive she could be with these types of things. Not a great look for a trip that was suppose to get her closer to the team. “Oh I don’t know, I haven’t played for so long.”

She turned to Kiris, who was looking through the pictures, “Did you come to ask too?”
