A few issues with this app. Firstly, while the character is indeed described as having the ability to suppress pain, most of the pain suppression power description actually deals with enhanced durability and not pain suppression. A minor issue, but still.

Additionally, all the points listed in the weaknesses section are very clearly limitations and not weaknesses. A painful past and personality traits don't quite count as weaknesses, and neither do things like colorblindness (they can be crippling limitations if severe enough, but not weaknesses).

Incidentally, the second and third points listed as limitations do count as weaknesses (while the former is formulated as a limitation, it does provide a clear way of defeating the character). I don't think the character's quite balanced if that's all, though, considering he can tank blades and gunfire alike with his skin and that the 'energy entities' that can stop him seem rather specific.

The rest (bio and such) seems fine.

Because I like to do these little random things, what do you think would make a great Opening Song for the Young Bloods? My nomination is Matchbox 20 - How Far We've Come

I can get behind it. But would still have to throw The Score - Unstoppable into the ring.

Bit random maybe, but this came to mind.

I'll give the others a listen.

EDIT: I'll agree with Rebel, I prefer Unstoppable. I like your song more, but I feel it fits less :P

Question...

Could I use heat manipulation/absorption as an ability? The title, a character I've used previously, a song, and a character I have for a multiverse I simply need to make into a comic have combined in my head.

Or you could go with the Phoenix by Fall Out Boy, from the Young Blood Chronicles, with the chorus saying "Hey Young Bloods, doesn't it feel, like our time is running out".

Seems pretty theme songy :/

Finally Complete...

Postby Segral » Wed Mar 07, 2018 3:17 pm

Segral wrote:Name: Li Yang Zhang

Appearance (pics if possible):
Young Blood?: Nada

Bio: Li Yang Zhang was born in Hangzhou, China, the the Zhiejiang province of Eastern China. Li's life was a struggle from the very beginning, as she was born to a Chinese track sprinter for a father, and a university professor is a mother. Both were perfectionists who always wanted perfect out of Li, no matter what. She was enrolled in basketball, football, and badminton teams, was given musical lessons on the piano and harp, taught to speak English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, and generally being held to perfect academic dominance over all subjects by her demanding parents. Li was naturally athletic, becoming the star of her middle and high school sports teams and out of school teams. In academics and music, she was not as naturally inclined as she was with athletics, but over time, she improved a lot. To any other parent, she would have been the apple of their eyes.

But not for hers.

With every second place, failure, or missed mark, the beatings and abuse ensued. At first, it was yelling or light slapping. As she grew older, they became beatings, spankings, emotional abuse, starvation. They would lock her in a closet or a basement. They would yell expletives at her. They would rap her knuckles whenever she missed a note on the piano. No dinner some days. No food some days. It was no place for any child to live in, and one who had already suffered so much exhaustion trying to cope with her parents demands.

Eventually, it reached its breaking point. One night, after an ankle injury caused her to lose an important girls' badminton tournament, a night where her father had had a couple drinks, something terrible happened. At first, Li thought she'd gotten away with it. Her father was silent the whole drive home. But the second they stepped foot into the house, as soon as she knew it, she was dragged into her room by her hair, where her dad pinned her down on the ground. All she heard was his pants being unzipped, and then...pain, just...pain.

That was it for Li. The next day, another night full of her father drinking, she jumped him, holding a kitchen knife. But it failed. Her father was a former Olympic athlete, and easily overpowered her. She was on the floor again, bruises dotting her face, and her father was undoing his belt. But something awoke inside her. With a feral scream, she leaped upon him, barreling straight into his chest in a frenzy of flailing limbs. Soon enough, she was sitting on top of her father, while he was bleeding from the chest. In panic and fear, she ran....

She lived seven years of her life on the streets. Seven whole years. Seven years of begging, picking trash, selling tea, shoe polishing to earn her next meal. There were gangs and gun groups, perverts and killers, speeding cars and uncaring pedestrians. At many times, there was no safe place, nowhere to hide. But she was tough and bright, and managed to eke out a meager living of wages on the street. After about two years, she needed a more steady source of income. But instead of going into sex or organ trade, she became a street fortune teller. She knew a little here and there, and many bought into it. She could tell a convincing enough story, one that was simple with enough odd details to make it sound credible. The fates she described were realistic but out-there enough to fool the pedestrians, and the money became a little looser. But one more thing was even more different; her powers.

At different times of the day, if she felt threatened, scared, or angry, she suddenly transformed. Just like that. Sometimes she was a monkey, sometimes a dog, sometimes an ox. Soon, she realized she had been given a gift. And she learned to control it. Away from prying eyes, she would practice. She would train. She would learn. She had learned many things, but these lessons were especially important to her.

Eventually, life got...better? She began dating a boy she met who she had just told a fortune for. There was instant chemistry between them, both knew it. They made plans to meet later, and it got better quickly. He was from a rich family, and paid to send her to high school to relearn what she had missed. Soon, they fell in love, and quickly eloped, Li becoming pregnant a month later.

However, one night, after a nasty bout of morning sickness, her husband found her in the form of a half-human, half-dragon. The truth had been unveiled. Her husband, mortified that he had married a metahuman, walked out three days later, leaving Li alone to take care of her daughter in the small, one-bedroom apartment they had. She was only twenty. But now she knew what her purpose was. It was not to fortune tell or play badminton, it was to clean the dirty streets she had lived on and free them from the people that terrorized them.

Li soon gained local fame in Hangzhou, for her notable image and powerful abilities. She quickly grew in fame in the following years, the local media and public becoming transfixed with her heroic image and her heartbreaking backstory. Her struggle as a single mother wove its way into the hearts of many, all around China. She never lost sight of her goal, becoming a symbol of national pride in her homeland.

But, new trouble has arisen. The Night Circus, a powerful group of super-powered terrorists, on a trip to China, kidnapped her daughter and is holding her hostage. Li knew she would not be able to defeat them single-handedly, and very few other Chinese heroes would be willing to help her. So, catching wind of the new group of young ragtag heroes known as the Young Bloods, she comes to America, in search of assistance in finding the most precious thing in the world to her; her 5-year old daughter Zhi.

Powers:
  • Zodiac Power: Basically, depending on the current solar longitude or term, otherwise known as zodiac time, Li gets one of 12 powers and physiologies, based on the Chinese Zodiac.

Rat: In this form, Li drastically shrinks in size, to three and a half feet. She grows larger, clawed feet, a large tail that can be used for whipping and snagging, and poison tipped fangs. Her speed is upped to a very fast 100 MPH, and she gets a modest agility boost.

Ox: Contrary to the rat form, Li grows to a huge seven and a half feet, with much more muscular strength and a much broader frame. She also grows long, sharp horns. In this stage, she gains super strength, and can, with enough damage/adrenaline, go into a berserk mode, with super speed up to 50 MPH, strength, and durability.

Tiger: Li grows about half a foot taller, and grows sharp claws on her hands and feet, as well as sharper teeth and more powerful jaws. She also gets a slight muscular boost in her legs, allowing for enhanced leaping ability. She has a few, assorted powers. The first is stealth and lightfootedness, meaning she doesn't make noise when she moves. The second is predator instincts, which give her heightened senses and tracking ability.

Rabbit: Li shrinks down to four feet, but gains a lot of muscular strength in her legs, much more than the average human. Other than that, the only physiological changes are longer incisors, that are actually quite sharp, and longer ears, which giver her slightly enhanced hearing. In terms of powers, she has enhanced leaping ability, as well as super strength based solely in her legs, giving her extreme kangaroo-like kicking ability. She feels this one's kind of useless.

Dragon: Now this is one of Li's favorites. She grows to 8 feet, with huge claws, fangs, a long spiked tail, and wings with a ten foot wingspan. She also becomes very scaly, and her eyes begin to shine, with bigger pupils. In terms of powers, she can fly short distances, use pyrokinesis generated from her throat, and create sonic roars, similar to the Hadrian's abilities. All in all, pretty cool.

Snake: Another favorite of Li's. She gets even more scales than before, and gets dilated pupils, with a long, sticky forked tongue. In terms of pure height, this one tops it at nine feet, as well as being decently muscular in her limbs. She gets extreme flexibility, as well as sticky skin, allowing her to stick to many surfaces, even glass for short periods. Her fangs are tipped with extremely deadly boomslang poison, and she can hurl this as a projectile whenever she wishes. However, her favorite tactic is choking, where she wraps around a dazed criminal and puts them in a chokehold.

Horse: In horse, she grows to six and a half feet, but other than that, not much changes. Her fingers are flattened on the end to mini-hooves, and she grows a small, bushy tail, but that's about it. In terms of powers, she gets boosted stamina, endurance, and durability. She can take several bullets to normally fatal places before blacking out, and that might not even kill her. She can also run for up to an hour straight, and fight for long periods of time in drawn out combat.

Goat: In goat, she grows a set of horns, longer than the ox as well as slightly curved. The same hoove-hands are created as the horse, and pupils are dilated. Despite this, her eyesight is enhanced slightly, as well as her sense of smell. In this form, she can go into unstoppable charge modes, where she runs forward at breakneck speed with the purpose of ramming someone into dust. This is very difficult to stop or slow, but it can be done.

Monkey: This is probably Li's favorite form. She gets longer nails, as well as a tail that is able to support her entire weight, letting her swing and dead hang from anything she can get it around. In terms of powers, her palms and soles are stickier and able to grip better, as well as getting enhanced grip strength, balance, and gymnastics abilities. Basically, she becomes a human monkey, and it becomes good for aggroing enemies.

Rooster: This is one of Lin's least favorite ones. She grows a long beak that can be used for pecking at close rage, as well as growing clawed talons that also help with climbing. She also grows wings, but ones that are smaller than the dragon ones. This one is a bit of interesting power. She can fly and do sonic voice at a toned down level compared to the dragon, but her sonic voice also has energizing properties. It can energize and wake up fallen or weary allies, and helps her act as a support role, something she's not too fond of.

Dog: The dog is another curious one. It acts like a muted tiger, with slightly duller and less forceful tooth and jaw, as well as less leaping ability, being a bit slower, and having the same sharpness of claw. But what makes the dog special is it's mental powers. Not only is it omnilingual and telepathic, it also has increased empathy and understanding, and can break down social cues easier. It also shares enhanced senses with the tiger, but at a lower level.

Pig: In pig form, Li becomes much shorter and stockier, like a wrestler. She grows a small tail which doesn't have much use aside from tripping foes, and a snout that allows a heightened sense of smell. Other than that, there's not much else to be said. In terms of powers, however, it's interesting. She gets minor boosts in durability and speed, but what makes it special is her geomancy, allowing her to create, control, and sling mud in different forms at enemies, from balls to waves. She has mixed feelings on this one.

Limitations:
Limitations and Shit

Rat: In rat, Li can only run up to 100 MPH, and that’s at top sprint, with maximum energy. As well the poison in her fangs, while it can seriously harm a child or kill a baby, can’t kill a full-grown man.

Ox: Strength in Ox form is limited. While she can chuck some decent-sized cars around or uproot a small tree, she can’t do everything. For example, knocking a reinforced door down, while possible, is extremely difficult and taxing and would take quite some time. As well, her berserk mode is limited to only one minute, and she sacrifices some loss of control in it

Tiger: The tiger form doesn’t have many limits, but it has a few. Firstly, the strength of its jaw is limited, in the fact that while it could easily crush someone’s windpipe or break ribs, bigger bones like femurs are difficult to break, and usually only result in cracking. In terms of leaping, she has about twenty feet of distance as her maximum, as she’s only broken that limit a few times.

Rabbit: The hearing ability of the rabbit form is limited. She can detect heartbeats from five feet away and hear moderate-to-loud through a soundproofed wall, whispers beyond the same wall are murky and/or inaudible, with the same occurring with heartbeats more than five feet away. In terms of leaping, her limit is forty feet, as she has never gotten above that distance.

Dragon: With great power comes great responsibility. While Li’s dragon can fly, breathe fire and roar, all three have limits. She can only fly for up to one minute, which translates to roughly half a mile at top speed. After that, her wings become tired. In terms of pyrokinesis, her fires reach about 900 degrees Celsius, 1652 degrees Fahrenheit, or 1173 Kelvin. Hotter than the average flame, but not by much. And she can only produce so much before it fades to sparks and smoke, which ten requires a cooldown period of about an hour. Enough to bring down a house, but not enough to torch a city block. Finally, her sonic roars reach a maximum of 140 db, as loud as the average rock concert. Certainly enough to stun someone and cause minor hearing damage, but it won’t exactly knock them out. It’s more of a stungun.

Snake: Her flexibility and sticky skin are limited in power. While she can coil around a tree or do some weird contortion, certain activities such as 360 degree neck turning and extreme contortion are a little too dangerous, and will likely result in tearing muscles or popping joints. As well, her sticky skin can stick to some surfaces, usually rough ones like tree bark or cliff walls, smooth objects like ice or glass are trickier to stick to, and she can generally only stick to them for about a minute before losing traction. As for the poison vomit, it can kill an adult, but it will take time. Lots of it. Not to mention she can only hurl it ten feet in any direction.

Horse: She can endure a lot, but not everything. While she can eat a few bullets to the stomach, cheek, thigh, or even the back, eventually, enough attacks or wounds in normally fatal spots will do her in from bleeding or trauma. And if it doesn’t kill her, it will likely badly injure and incapacitate her for several hours or even days. As for her running, while she can run for up to an hour, that’s at a moderate pace of 10 MPH and going faster will eat away at her stamina.

Goat: Her charges can be stopped. She charges at about 50 MPH, and while that is decent, it can be sidestepped or stopped. Stopping it is very difficult, however, large amounts of blunt trauma, heavy force or resistance, or spontaneous events such as explosions can stop her. Otherwise, she’ll just keep charging. As for eyesight, it’s only a minor increase. She can make out individual pixels better, see from farther distances, and has a clearer and sharper eyesight in general. As for smell, she has the ability to detect certain odors and identify people by them. She can also track people by the smell they waft, as long as she stays about five feet behind them

Monkey: Her tail has limits. It can hold her entire 155 lb bodyweight, as well as most loads up to 175 lb. Anything more than that is likely to lead to collapse or falling if she tries to suspend it. Her sticky palms act like a slightly muted version of the sticky snake skin, being able to hold on to glass in place for up to 45 seconds. In terms of grip strength and balance, both have limits. She can hold onto a pull-up bar with pure upper-body for about ten minutes before her grip gives out. As for balance, she can maneuver across a balance beam of roughly half a foot with no trouble, but any thinner and it takes increased amounts of focus and lack of disturbance to pull off.

Rooster: There are a few limits to the rooster abilities. While the talons help with climbing, they don’t necessarily allow her to climb sheer surfaces. That’s basically impossible unless there are grooves or ledges in the surface. Her beak is only five feet long, and her wings only allow her to fly for up to thirty seconds, or roughly five hundred feet. As for her sonic voice, while it does provide an energy boost, it is small, as it the maximum it can do is allow an incapacitated comrade to stand up and walk again. It can rouse someone from sleep, but it might not be able to do so with sedatives or anaesthetics in place.

Dog: Like stated previously, the dog is a muted tiger. The most its jaw could break are ribs, anything thicker or more solid, it will have a difficult time cracking or snapping. It also can only leap about 10 feet, and is around 5 MPH slower. In terms of mental powers, the omnilingualism can only process actual languages, not grunts or rudimentary communication. Its telepathy can only receive input and has limited output in terms of communication, only being able to speak to one person at once.

Pig: The pig’s sense of smell is slightly better than the goat’s, as it is easier to identify and single out odors, as well as track people from about 7-10 feet. The speed at full sprint is only about 30 MPH, and while it can take slightly more punishment, enough bullets or blunt trauma will incapacitate or kill her. Her mud is limited to using about 10 L at a time, more will cause immense amounts of stamina and energy decrease.

Weaknesses:
  • Plot Armor Magic: Li, in almost any form, cannot resist magic too well, as most of her forms rely on physical, non-magical attacks. Dragon and pig can combat magic, but other than that, she can be a sitting duck.
  • Mental Attacks: Li isn't resistant against telepathic attacks, and doesn't have any yet. These can be a flaw.
  • Size Matters: Some of Li's forms are small and physically weak, and can be overpowered by large, physically powerful foes.
  • Protectiveness: Li is extremely protective of her daughter, and come sometimes abandon reason or fly into battle just to help or save her.
