The Rebel Alliances wrote:So, how many of us are comic readers? Does anyone have a preference for manga or comics?

I own both but admittedly I my comics collection(while not great but decent) vastly outweighs my current manga collection.

The majority of my comics are DC Comics, but also spans publishers from MARVEL to Valiant, IDW, Boom, Udon and Dynamite. I want to add some Dark Horse(Hellboy) and Image(Spawn) to my collection as well over time.

As for my manga collection, well at one point it was much larger(years ago) but today it consists of a single complete manga series. Love Hina, which is a harem/romantic comedy. It used to include things like Death Note, Naruto and Rurouni Kenshin as well.

As for preference, if I had to pick. I would probably say comics. Since first really diving into comics a few years ago(with some inspiration from my IJ buddies) I have found that I love too many comic characters and the fact that many of my favorite Franchises, such as Star Wars, Street Fighter and Sonic the Hedgehog(coming soon with IDW) have their own comic book runs doesn't hurt either.

I also prefer the production value to comics. I really think that the colored and artistic scenes can add a lot to a story or at least the impact of certain panels. Manga may be cheaper, but they are published on what is essentially recycled newspapers.

I read more manga but that's only because it's easier to find manga here than to find comics. That said I've never really buy manga or comics, the first I read from the collective manga collection of my dorm and the later I read online.

I haven't really caught up with the recent comic stories, but I'm planning to catch up with DC Metal as soon as I have the time

I have heard good things of DC Metal, I have one issue myself but I am more interested in more primary stories than alternate spin offs.

When the new 52 first came up I tried to follow the story but was a little bit confused on the reading order (as it was around the same time I first found out about online comic book, which is my most reliable source to read comic). I heard about a new Batman story arc with Poison Ivy as the central plot villain, not sure if it's main story or not but I also plan to read it.

Not me. Though I did once read a manga whereas I've never read a comic so I guess that means my preference is the former? :P

Well, I just sold off my game collection to catch myself up a bit. Had some money left over and dropped a $150 on comics and manga. Picked up Superman: Earth One, Batman/Superman: Public Enemies, Valiant: Zeroes and Origins, Marvel Civil War II, Green Lanterns, Justice League vol 1 New 52, Justice League vol 1 Rebirth, Issues 4, 5 and 6 of Boom's GoGo Power Rangers and Volumes 1 and 2 of Boruto.

I have much reading to do.

I've read a few comics. From the top of my head I've read Blackest Night, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, The Killing Joke, and Death of the Family. I'm really not that into following ongoing comic series. I actually prefer manga since they're easier to get into for me. No worrying about reboots, crossovers, tie-ins, and such. They're pretty much a one and done deal for the most part.

I don't read Marvel or DC comics (To be honest, they don't release their comic books to Indonesia. The one that got released are usually the anthology series, or one-shot stories, or at least the recently modern series that are influenced by the MCU or recent DC comic series. To be frank there aren't many North American comic series).

I have manga collections (Death Note, Naruto, Bleach, Doraemon, Detective Conan, Detective Kindaichi, etc) and my preference is manga since it is more readily available and widely released. We even got the most obscure ones here in Indonesia. Production value in manga at the early days, their ink could be copied to my hands, a bit dirty. Nowadays it's better, the fact that they are cheaper in price with the use of black-and-white colors didn't hurt us.

Wait, your in Indonesia? Well in that case the manga preference makes perfect sense. And even in the states they are cheaper to get into. A typical one issue comic of like 20-30 pages or so goes from $3 to $5. A volume of manga in the states is $10 and they cover between 150-200 pages.

You know it, nothing but the best.

Just imagine, somewhere on the East Coast is a similar band of young upstart heroes trying to get their start, and the news focuses entirely on the Young Bloods' Zoo Debut and Solar, pushing them to local headlines at best. The world is too huge in theory, lots of things can be going on at once.

I do not know what Doraemon is, but I am pretty sure that Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon were the gateway anime to the United States. Although I am far from an expert on the matter.

As for me, my gateway anime was probably Pokemon. Of course I was too young when I watched that to know 'anime' from 'cartoons'. So, perhaps my gateway anime was either Teen Titans(I consider that anime) or One Piece. I saw anime before these but none that I can credit with making me aware of 'anime'.

Hey, Tom, any estimate for how long 'till the timeskip, in terms of IRL time? Just wondering so I can plan ahead some stuff :P

Additionally, would other characters reasonably be in Liberty's vicinity to interact with her? (relatedly, are everyone's rooms in the same building? since that would justify them all running into her quite nicely :P)

Yeah, just googled it to be sure. I have never seen it. And honestly I never heard anyone talk about it, maybe it just isn't as popular here.

Also, is there a time skip coming?

EDIT: Also I think I found a theme for Raven, just decided to make it simple and pick a song I already established as being her favorite band in the IC.

Ah well, I will just wait until segral can move Carter over to Raven. In the meantime I can read my Red Hood material for ideas or inspiration.

Also found out last night that Valiant has a super powered goat who is kinda the 'father' to Valiant's worst super hero team. Its pretty great.

I finally decided to click on some of the songs that have been posted around here. Turns out this one is a song a friend regularly listens to :P

Honestly, for Marionette I am not surprised. Back to the drawing board.

This is a another song I've thought that would go well as an imaginary AMV of Red and Marionette's relationship, but honestly it could serve as a good Red/Raven teamup AMV as well.

Can someone please just give me money and some animators so I can just direct an animated series of the Young Bloods?

And this is a song that I enjoy :P though I prefer this cover to the original.
