So this is very much something that will be changed based on input from you guys, but given the fact that I'm really the only one who's remotely controlling anything related to Lycan, I thought it'd be prudent. Likely will be better to talk about it in the Discord, but wanted to have something official out on the OOC if needed.

Faction Name: Lycan
Faction Location/Territory: Lycan holds influence in practically every nation in the world, and possesses a headquarters in Washington D.C
Tech Level: Modern with sparse amounts of Post-Modern technology
Description/Lore:

Image

The origin of Lycan can be traced as far back as the conclusion of the Second World War. In response to the public recognition of the existence of human beings possessing abilities far beyond the capabilities of normal humans, many global leaders sought a means in which to rid the world of these individuals. Many world leaders saw metahumans as threats to the traditional balance of powers, fearing of a possible future in which their governments would be toppled by those with powers they were unable to deal with through conventional methods.

It was this fear that brought about the creation of the precursor to Lycan, the International Metahuman Deterrent Program, referred to those in knowledge of its existence as The Program. Notably, several former Nazi officials and scientists were recruited into the organization, who quickly shifted their racial ideals into an approach that focused on humanity as a whole. Even as the governments of the world stared each other down across the Iron Curtain, The Program continued as a multi-national clandestine group that sought to find both the cause of the existence of metahumans and means in which to deactivate these abilities. Unfortunately they found little to know success, as traditional medicine at the time was unable to find what triggered these changes in humans, let alone a way in which to reverse said effects.

During this time period, The Program used its connections with world governments to set up experimentations on metahumans that had been sent away to prisons thanks to the ongoing persecution that was openly endorsed around the world. Specifically, the Soviet Union became one of the leading contributors in this regard, the government seeing metahumans as too much of a threat to the communist government. Many metahumans would return home as they were sent through a plethora of inhumane procedures and experiments as the organization sought means in which increase their knowledge on metahuman anatomy. Things came to an abrupt halt however at the end of the 1970s. With the passing of the Super Human Rights Act in 1979, The Program was officially disbanded as the majority of countries who had founded the organization abandoned it. Much of the records were scratched from the public's eyes as many nations were eager to wipe their hands clean of the organization.

Unfortunately, this disbanding of The Project did not mean the end of anti-metahuman efforts. Many former members sought to continue on with the goal of the original organization, as public opinion on the status of metahumans was dubious at best. Using their connections that had been made over the prior three decades, the group was built back up once more, only this time from the shadows. Using their large pools of leftover assets as well as taking advantage of the growing wave of villainous metahumans, the group changed into what is now known as Lycan.

Named after the mythological creatures which hid in the daytime as ordinary humans only to transform into terrifying beasts at night, Lycan immediately went to work in creating a large umbrella in which to go about the group's original goals whilst remaining hidden from the public eye. Their reach was vast, as they soon became entangled in practically every major sphere that they could get a hold of, ranging from the media to the military industrial complex. All of these various branches remained unaware of their coexistence outside of those at the very top, who met in secret to consolidate their power.

It didn't take long for Lycan's influence to begin to be felt across the world. Media outlets were utilized to highlight the horrendous acts committed by villains as a means of stoking public fear, innovative technology companies used their assets to even the gaps between humanity and their metahuman counterparts, and private military and espionage groups were used to help topple metahuman friendly regimes in areas of the world already destabilized by the actions of the larger nations of the world. Whatever it took for Lycan to grow closer to their ultimate goal of ridding the world of the perceived threat of metahumans, Lycan did everything within their power to accomplish.

With the arrival of the Hadrian emissaries, Lycan's goals shifted even further as the fear of humanity's fate hung in the balance. The Rift Incident further entrenched their position, with the thought that humanity at its current state was not capable of fending for itself any longer. This event caused Lycan to become even more aggressive in their approach, willing to go even further past what many would see as acceptable means. Genetic modifications, body modification, artificial intelligence, and other dangerous technologies became a valued tool in the arsenal of Lycan as the 21st century began.

This sense of urgency in combination with vast ideological differences resulted in Lycan soon developing bitter rivalries with other organizations. Of note, two of these included both the clandestine group known The Guild as well as the Ecuadorian government, as the organization often met the two with confrontation either directly or indirectly. A notable incident in regard to the former's case occurred during the Bosnian War in the waning years of the 20th century, in which both groups took opposing sides within the conflict. Dozens of members from both organizations were killed in the effort, and the culmination of the underground conflict resulted in the assassination of several Councilmembers from the Guild. It was after this that the Guild withdrew from both the region and the international stage as a whole, leaving Lycan to believe that it had vanquished its most formidable foe.

In the current state of the world, Lycan grows ever more vigilant against what they see as threats against the world's existence. With public opinion becoming more and more in favor of metahumans and their exploits, the organization seeks to find ways to not only turn the public's opinion but to also find a way in which to end the threat that both metahumans and non-human races present. In recent months, the growing attention to the young group of heroes located in San Diego has drawn eyes to both the team and the city as a whole, and steps have been placed forwards in what is soon becoming the focal point of events in the world.

Population Size: Tens of thousands when one includes all working within its umbrella organizations
Army Size (If any): Several thousand private military personnel that are scattered about across the globe
Races that are part of the faction: Non-Metahumans
Additional Info: The following are notable organizations that fall underneath its umbrella

Warwolf International

The main security force of the organization, Warwolf acts as a proxy military organization of the group. While it is a publicly known organization, its true nature remains hidden from the majority of the world. Often, it is used in place of metahumans or governmental forces in incidents designed to contain either metahuman, supernatural, or otherwise otherworldly events. Using the technology developed by Dusk Industries, they field an impressive host of mechanized forces that are capable of standing toe to toe with even some of the most powerful opponents. They are led by Major Phantom, who takes orders directly from the higher ups within Lycan itself. Their efforts have often lead to controversy however, and after the incident in San Diego, public opinion has become increasingly negative against the group.

Dusk Industries

The main source of technological advancements within Lycan, the group is composed of a wide field of scientists and engineers that are either sympathetic towards Lycan's ideals or who are unable to turn down the lucrative offers rewarded to them for their services. Utilizing both traditional human technology as well as reverse engineered alien technology, the company has provided a great deal of both utility items and weapons for both Lycan and world governments. Unbeknownst to even many who work for the company, unethical research is also done as researches continue to search for means in which to eradicate or at least nullify metahuman existence on Earth. It is ran by a man known as Dr. Reiner, who is willing to step over any ethical boundary should it mean that he can continue to advance human technology.

Terra Broadcast Network

A traditional news network on the surface, events are reported on in ways that stoke fear into the general population over metahuman and non-human activity across the globe. A rather controversial news network, they are unafraid to exploit the shortcomings of heroes' efforts, going so far as to prematurely end the careers of several former heroes who were unable to continue their careers as the public's opinion turned against them. Recently, their efforts have turned against the efforts of the Young Bloods of San Diego, with them being the first to have reported on the identity of Wendy Felix. It is led by a pair of brothers known as the Konen Brothers, whose wealth only exceeds their disdain for metahumans.

The Five

One of Lycan's most highly kept secrets, the elite black ops unit began when Lycan took over two dozen youths from various adoption agencies across the globe. These unwilling recruits were selected based on a variety of factors that included behavioral patterns, intellectual potential, and genetic makeups. Ranging from ages five to seven, these young children were initially exposed to a variety of medical procedures that were designed to improve cognition skills, reaction times, muscle development, and other aspects that placed them at the peak of human performance. The procedures were not without risks, and many failed to survive the side effects that followed. For those that did survive, they were subjected to a brutal training regiment that spanned for several years. Hand-to-hand combat, weapons training, cybernetic warfare, and a wide array of other utility and combat skills were all taught to these recruits, which were frequently tested as they were put through harrowing challenges in which many perished in the process. Indoctrination was another key element to Lycan's plans for the children, as all were molded to have ideals in line with Lycan's philosophy, with the recruits seeing both meta-humans and non-humans as filthy beings deserving neither mercy or compassion. At the conclusion of their training, the five remaining recruits became Lycan's tip of the spear as they were thrust into various missions across the globe. Political assassinations, sabotage, asset acquisitions, and other highly dangerous assignments were given to the group, and on all but a select handful of times the team was successful in their efforts.

Slight edits made above, some additional details about the founding of the group, a headquarters location, relations with other factions including the Guild, and a small portion detailing The Five.

Name: Morgan Beck
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance: Here
Young Blood?: Y
Bio: Morgan's life was never going to be easy. His parents were two high school sweethearts in over their heads, who married shortly after his mother realized she was pregnant. As both were members of highly religious families, they were shunned and cast out, and the couple was forced to move to the slums in order to be able to afford a roof over their heads. Shortly afterwards, Morgan was born. His first few years weren't too bad, with his father owning up to his new role as the family man and getting a job at the docks that sufficed to put some meager food on the table. However, as the years passed, the man's resentment towards his wife and the child who had ruined his promising football career began growing, resulting in increasingly violent behavior. This climaxed in him hitting Morgan and his mother when the boy was in his early teens.

The undue stress of his home life understandably affected his grades and his behavior at school, causing an already introverted Morgan to feel increasingly alienated from every other person in his life. Becoming a loner, he took to roaming the streets in his free time, staying away from home as much as possible just to avoid coming into contact with his violent, alcoholic father and a submissive mother that he was growing to resent as well. Throughout his teenage years, he also discovered his powers and took to experimenting with them when he was alone, keeping them a closely guarded secret. His family's tensions eventually came to a head when the boy was 17 years old: he grabbed what few belongings he had and ran away, resolving to live on his own, thinking that it was preferable to face hardship on his own than to continue living with his parents any longer.

Things did not go according to plan. He found himself falling in the hands of the yakuza, who intended to ship him across the ocean for nefarious ends beyond his knowledge. Fortunately, he was saved by the efforts of the Los Angeles Stars, but the authorities simply sent him back to live with his parents afterwards, not aware of his circumstances. Rather than showing any sort of concern for his well-being, his father berated and punished him for his escape - naturally, this resulted in him promptly escaping again, more careful this time. Morgan began living in various hideouts throughout the city's slums, eventually meeting one of the heroes who had saved him before, Surge, of the Los Angeles Stars.

The young hero took pity on the runaway, promising to help him out. And the rest is history.
Powers:
  • [Absorb]: Morgan's premier ability and the one most others are derived from. Morgan has the ability to create black holes of sorts on the palms of his hands, which will actively pull in nearby objects, transporting them to an empty pocket dimension where said objects become suspended in time. There's no limit to what this pocket dimension may hold, and he has instinctive knowledge of everything object inside at all times.
  • [Expel]: In addition to being able to absorb objects, Morgan also has the ability to expel said objects through the same ethereal portals on the palms of his hands. Though the force with which he can do so varies, he can generally use this ability for offensive purposes quite effectively.
  • [Destroy]: Should he will it, Morgan can erase an object once it's inside his pocket dimension, rendering it completely irretrievable.
  • [Resist]: Though he otherwise has no special physical abilities like other superhumans do, Morgan's body has been altered to be supernaturally resilient to damage as a result of his nature as a conduit to a pocket dimension. Functionally, he can fight longer and take more damage than a normal person.
  • [Fight]: He has received some training in hand to hand combat. Though by no means a master, Morgan can look after himself.

Limitations:
  • Though Morgan's pocket dimension has no limits to the amount of material that can be contained by it, there is a limitation on what he can transport there at a time. Objects that are too large simply won't go through the portals in his palms and be transported to the pocket dimension.
  • Though the force with which he can expel objects varies, momentum has some bearing on said force - Morgan cannot shoot something out of his hand like a bullet if it didn't have comparable speed at the moment of going inside. He can alter this to some degree, but an object that was completely still at the moment of its absorption can never be propelled at massive speeds at the moment of its expelling.

Weaknesses:
  • [Localized Power]: Morgan's powers are centered around his palms. Thus, no other part of his body can absorb projectiles. In addition, if an attack is so fast that he cannot activate his powers to react to it, said powers become effectively useless - and his reflexes are wholly human.
  • [Localized Damage]: Because he needs to use his palms to activate his powers, targeting Morgan's arms and wrists would work quite well against him.

Likes: Loud music, reading, parkour, snacks, hoodies, old devices.
Dislikes: Loud people, silence, spicy food, formal clothes, being locked up.

Additional Information
Birthday: February 10th

Greatest fear: Going deaf

Young Blood?: Yes

Bio: Aurelia was born in San Diego, California to an offshoot of a wealthy influential Brazilian family well known for their support of social justice activism in Brazil, however she would not grow up in the United States. Her branch of the family had moved to California in the first place due to a disagreement with the rest of the family about how to approach life under the military dictatorship that ruled Brazil from the mid 60s to the mid 80s. Her Grandfather felt that they should use their connections and popularity among local superhumans to overthrow the government, while most of the rest of the family felt that it was better to return to a focus on more politically neutral focus on the education and poverty of the family had been associated with for generations before, providing no support to superhuman activities beyond normal crime fighting, leaving the common people to overthrow the dictatorship when they were ready.

In California, Aurelia's Grandfather would go on to start a new life, using his share of the family wealth to get involved in the emerging superhuman business, in addition to making extensive use of the education and scientific training he grew up surrounded by within his family. When the dictatorship began the thaw out, the family remained in the United States, however they would begin reestablishing ties in Brazil. Her father would carry on the family profession in California, but would increasingly long for a return to his native Brazil. Nonetheless, he'd marry an Argentinian-American woman in California in the late 90s and start a family, even as the mending of family and business ties gradually began to form into political ties to progressive forces in Brazil, eager to reverse the brain drain of forward thinking professionals that occurred under the dictatorship and through the instability of the reestablishment of democracy in the 90s.

By the time Aurelia was hat she was born, she had already undergone a variety of screening processes that determined that she had superhuman abilities. Her family had not yet, as far as they knew, had anyone with superhuman abilities, (though rumors abounded contrary to the family having consistently produced abnormally intelligent and/or charismatic individuals for generations), which immediately made her unique. In 2003, her immediate family would move to back to Brazil.

During the 90s turn to democracy, efforts had been made to attempt to import that american system of heroing into Brazil, by legalizing for profit heroing that was no longer needed to be directly contracted to the military or police. On one hand, it lead to a boom in the sector, on the other hand much of the industry ended up directly and indirectly augmenting the strength of criminal gangs, as it was always more profitable to consistently fight crime than work to prevent it in the first place. Aurelia's father was part of a wave of returning diaspora offered an opportunity to be a part of reimagining and regulating superheroing in the country without undermining the parts of its growth that was successful.

Aurelia would under go a great deal of athletic and combat training from a very young age, taking advantage of resources that had grown in an expansive and permissiven regulatory environment. Her parents were determined to see their daughter become as powerful a superhero as they could possibly raise her to be and luckily for her relationship with her parents, Aurelia's nearly insatiable appetite for combat and competition meant she was nearly always been enthusiastic about the training, despite how extreme it would often get. From the start, her parents wanted to be sure, that Aurelia didn't rely on her powers to be effective combatant. They'd frequently made sure to train her against older, larger and more experienced opponents just beyond her level without the use of her powers, who were rewarded for pushing her to the limits of her resilience. Determined, she'd improve, but it'd also had the side effect of cultivating a mercilessness that she was already inclined toward. She delighted in bitter payback against those who'd previously overcome her. As time went on, her training would change to increasingly incorporate her powers, and her sparing partners exclusively became other superhumans. At the age of 15, she had begun competing in youth league superhuman tournaments both inside and outside Brazil, taking the alias Incerteza. Among those who'd come to know her, she gained a reputation for the contrast between the well mannered, personable, happy behavior she presented and the flamboyantly vicious, yet controlled style of combat she engaged in. Aurelia took pride in extravagant takedowns and provoked rivalries where it'd present an oppertunity for challenge.

In 2016, on her 16th birthday, she'd get her superheroing license. She favored search and destroy mission against illegal logging operations in the Amazon, both for the fact it involved saving the environment and protecting vulnerable uncontacted tribes, but that it was remote enough that it helped her avoid scrutiny from accusations of excessive use of force. She also proved to be an able team player that showed concern for her teammates safety, along with being a good communicator.

Unfortunately, since 2014, Brazil had been going through a slew of investigations into the conduct of government officials and contractors, especially pertaining to the superhero industry, about a variety of accusations of bribery and abuses. Over the next three years, many of her parents associates in business and government would be charged and arrested, though there was never evidence of any wrong doing on the part of Aurelia's parents. Nonetheless, feeling that the investigations were politically motivated, along with concerns about reprisals by the political opposition, many of which had links to the old military dictatorship, along with not wanting to risk Aurelia's future, her parents decided to move back to California in late 2017.

By the new year's of 2018, Aurelia and her family had settled down in the home they kept in San Francisco that they had used for vacations and had begun restoring local business ties. Aurelia was now back in the country of her birth and confident of her ability to make a name from herself on the American superhero scene, along sincere wish to help society with her talents. To that end, She'd decide to join the Young Bloods.

Powers:
  • [Isoportation]: Allows her to instantly reorient the position of her body and limbs, including stopping her momentum entirely. Her Isoportation abilities are also applied to and enhance the speed of her cognition and tests have found her mind difficult to read as a result.

  • [Isocharging]: Aurelia can 'withhold' her movement through her isoportation powers, with the resulting speed compounding with duration. For example, if it'd take a quarter of a second to complete a given motion, withholding it for a quarter of a second doubles it's speed on release, another quarter of a second makes it four times as faster, an additional quarter second makes it eights time faster and so on. She does not need to release these energy all at once, however and can hold it back as a reserve and use it elsewhere on her body and later. Also can use this energy as s a forcefield and release it as energy blasts.

  • [Resilience]: The use of her powers puts extreme forces on her body, and can cause internal damage. While lacking superhuman speed or strength outside of what her isocharging allows, she does have extreme durability and healing capacity that allow her to recover from their use and by extension other damage.

  • [Martial Gymnast]: The effectiveness of her powers depends on being capable of pulling off quick and efficient movements in combat. As a result she's been training in both gymnastics and martial arts since she's been 3 years old, her wealthy family investing in her training and Aurelia, being nearly always being an enthusiastic, driven participant. Along with superpowers, she's also has also been gifted with a tall, lean, athletic physique.

  • ["Alva" Helmet]: Helmet that tracks a variety of data about both the world around her and herself. Designed intentionally to train and augment her sensory awareness rather than replace it, to ensure that instead of building a reliance on the technology in combat, it makes its capacities beyond protection and communication increasingly less important. Has ability to 'run cold', shutting off its functions beyond protection.

Limitations:
  • [Isoglare]: There comes a point where her isocharging stores enough energy that it starts emitting a fierce purple glow. Not only does it give her away, it also represents the limit of her capacity to charge, with the light its self being her leaking energy.
  • [Rooted in Humanity]:Her Isocharging is based on multiples of her own athletic capacity, so while she's an athletically gifted teenager that's had access to personal trainers since she learned to walk, her baseline strength, speed and stamina is mostly human, though her super-human resilience has allowed her to push further than would be otherwise possible.

Weaknesses:
  • [IsoCancel]: Though her Isofield can be used like an energy barrier, it is only as strong as the energy built up its self. If Aurelia charges up a kick then transfers the energy to another part of her body, the area it expands over may proportionally weaken it. Additionally impacts to the field that are less/equal/greater than it's charge, can weaken/cancel overcome it.

  • [Limited Range]: Aurelia has few built in abilities for truly long range combat. She can throw things, even blast what she throws, but by themselves her energy blasts are a short to mid range weapon.

Likes:Roughhousing, Competition, Reading, Basketball, Football (both), Video Games, Close Quarters Combat, Rivalries, Shattering Glass Cannons.
Dislikes:Cowardice, Traditionalism, Demanding Surrender, The Idle Wealthy, Social injustice.

WIP app. I have a couple questions that I need to get answered so I'll wait until I get on the discord for that.

Name: Michael "Farsight" Clancy
Age: 18
Gender: M
Race: Human
Appearance (pics if possible): Michael. He wears a mask which he can pull up over his mouth and dark sunglasses to mask his identity when operating as Farsight, which is a bit of an impromptu costume.
Young Blood?: *Yes, but he'll join in-rp.
Bio:
Michael Clancy's early childhood was about as average as it got. He was born in San Diego to a father who was a veteran police detective, and a mother who was a businesswoman, the breadwinner of the family. Although he had no noteworthy incidents in school, by Middle School, his parents began to frequently argued with each other as they retired from their jobs, citing a myriad of factors as the reasons for their quarreling. However, in every single case, the young Michael would manage to defuse the arguments, citing that he was able to simply learn about his parents' problems from their thoughts and form solutions based from that.

His parents quickly realized their child had powers and sent him to a doctor to verify his abilities. After a series of tests and paperwork, it was revealed that Michael had powerful extra-sensory abilities. At first, his abilities were used for mundane things like aiding his performance in class and keeping him away from bullies, but then an obsession with keeping tabs on friends grew as he familiarized himself with his secondary remote viewing ability. He grew into somewhat of a recluse, remotely viewing his friends from home while they partied, learning about their secrets and true opinions towards their more reclusive friend.

Upon graduating from middle school, Michael was quickly pulled out of his schooling district and was enrolled into Thomsen High, a school designed to apparently help him, for lack of a better word, live with his powers. On top of his education, Michael's psychic abilities were refined by the Thomsen High faculty, and in what he previously saw as a detriment, he now saw potential and application beyond just snooping on his friends or checking knowledge from teachers.

Michael would get his first experience in "vigilante" work outside of Thomsen High, where he would often make anonymous tips to the San Diego Police Department on unexplained murders and similar cold cases. He also took up photography as a hobby, taking candid photos of persons of interest to certain cases and of suspects that the police would describe on their scanners. In one specific instance, the work and abilities of the so-called "Farsight" were pivotal in helping the police find a fugitive, as the anonymous hero had apparently managed to locate a criminal in hiding with their remote viewing powers by looking at a wanted billboard.

As he grew older, and as some of the cases began becoming more gruesome and macabre, Michael took a step back from his vigilante work to focus on his studies. A growing incident in San Francisco which his father was asked to support caught Michael's attention, and he, adamant on gaining the approval of his father and helping out however he could, ventured to San Francisco as the first "official" appearance of Farsight, to help local authorities however he could.

Powers:
  • [ESPer]: Michael is an experienced telepath, and is easily able to access a person's mind, memories, emotions, and/or subconscious, simply by looking at them. He can use this to suggest or even persuade feeble-minded opponents to do something, fish for specific memories and experiences, anticipate actions (with a few stipulations), and intimidate opponents through hallucinations, though the latter is only as vivid as the target's mental fortitude. At best offensively, this means he can induce powerful hallucinations and mental pain in opponents, and at best defensively, it can be used to cause him to appear as not worth someone's time, or even not there at all. Of course, this allows him to talk to people with a thought, and he can even send information over into someone else's mind, much like sending a picture on a text.
  • [Remote Viewer]: Michael's secondary ability is remote viewing. Given enough time, preparation, and information on an individual (like a photograph), he is capable of entering a meditative state and remotely viewing an individual as if he were in their shoes. In this state, he can perceive sights and other stimuli from the target when in this state, and can even visualize their dreams. This leaves him extremely vulnerable but will allow him to ascertain a large amount of information at once.
  • [Enhanced Intellect]: While not necessarily a superpower, Michael is generally a very smart and intuitive person with an investigatory mindset and a good memory, and can process lots of information at once.
  • [Photographer]: While also not a superpower, Michael is a skillful photographer that works well both overtly and covertly, and understands both the mechanical and artistic aspects of the craft.

Limitations:
  • For obvious reasons, Michael's abilities do not work on robots and other inorganic constructs without brains, nor will they function in the presence of power suppression technology or mental blockers.
  • In order to remotely view someone, Michael requires a litany of information on the target, including a physical appearance, name, and location. This doesn't mean he can simply sit down and find out where the President is, he requires at least those three things if he is to use his powers.
  • Due to the difficulty in understanding alien physiology, Michael has trouble in using his abilities against non-humanoids/Earth individuals.
  • Michael's telepathy and empathic abilities require a line of sight on a target to function.
  • Michael cannot be interrupted while preparing his remote viewing ability, or he must start over again. When he is actually in the state, he is vulnerable to all outside stimuli and will be unaware of what is going on back at his body until he returns.
  • Michael's abilities will weaken when being used on more than two individuals at a time.
  • Michael's abilities can be challenged and even counteracted by those with an indomitable willpower, or other telepaths.

Weaknesses:
  • [Human]: As cliche as it sounds, Michael is simply just a human in the end, and is no stronger than any other human without superpowers.
  • [Mind is a Muscle]: It is often (incorrectly) stated that the mind is a muscle, and no truer is that assumption than with Michael. Using his powers repeatedly can be physically taxing on his body. If he pushes himself too hard, or uses his powers for extended periods of time, he will begin to take physical and mental damage (starting with nosebleeds and headaches and worsening from there) and will need to stop using his abilities. This also applies if he is in combat with another telepath.
  • [Socially Awkward]: Ironically enough, Michael's abilities in reading others' minds and intentions has led him to becoming somewhat of a social recluse. Outside of his abilities, he is not a very charismatic or persuasive individual, nor is he funny at all, and takes insults very poorly. This makes him a horrible liar and negotiator, and an overall boring person to talk to.

The process of joining the team proper is indeed handled in the IC.

For context we're currently just arriving to San Francisco to help with a rather large situation, that would be a prime opportunity for your character to join if he happened to be there at the moment. These two posts should provide you with the main context, though of course you're free to ask your questions later too :P

Alright. I'll read up. I was thinking I could meet the gang there and help them out, having snuck my way over to see if there was anything he could do to help.

While the app remains a work in progress, some preliminary thoughts on what's provided:

The Remote Viewer power, specifically the part where Michael can "access their full memory" seems like a little too much, in my opinion, even given the other limitations the ability has.

The Sober drawback seems like a bit superfluous. Does Michael regularly partake in alcohol or other substances? If not, I think you could probably leave it out. It could be safely assumed that he won't be working at his 100% if someone drugs him regardless.

If it's easier, and if it's too strong, I can cut out the part involving accessing someone's full memories with remote viewing, and instead rework it to make it simply "viewing" the individual, albeit with some drawbacks (like things being fuzzy or dreambacks). My intent wasn't to make it so he could see everything they were doing and thinking in hindsight. If not, I can just cut out the power entirely.

I could also probably leave out the Sober drawback, but I need another drawback to compensate for that. Do you have any suggestions?

See my concern is that "accessing full memory" sounds like Michael gains the ability to learn someone's entire history right off the bat. If that wasn't the intent though, then that should be fine. Just have to remove that bit, don't need to rework or edit anything else really. As for the drawback, I don't think you need to add another one to compensate, seems like his telepathy and remote viewing have more than enough limitations to make this guy a balanced character (taking into account the aforementioned change to remote viewing of course).

Nah that wasn't the intent, I'll remove the "accessing full memory bit" it and the Sober drawback, and make it more in line with how I wanted it to sound.

I'll join the discord in a sec and finish my bio, just got home.

WIP. Feel free to help me with the powers.

Name: Tanner Lange | "Tarasque"
Age: 19
Gender: M
Race: Human / Monster
Appearance (pics if possible): Tanner and the Tarasque
Young Blood?: N (Side Character)
Bio:
As an only child, Tanner Lange was born on a reservation to a single mother, and never knew his father. His mother, similarly, was not sure how she had gotten pregnant, and seemed to have severe amnesia regarding the circumstances of her child's conception. Nonetheless, she gave birth to a healthy child in a small rural California hospital, who seemed normal upon first glance.

Tanner's childhood was mostly uneventful, though he grew up in a trailer park far from San Diego in slightly destitute circumstances. He would often spend much of his time outdoors, and enjoyed running so much that he took up track and field as a sport in middle school. However, Tanner's childhood was marred with delinquency; he often made a name for himself as a fearsome bully, picking on smaller and weaker kids and often getting himself into trouble.

It was during his first year in high school that Tanner became involved in petty crime, hanging around a gang of fellow students that mostly vandalized spaces and harassed people — relatively harmful stuff. It wasn't until the robberies began that Tanner realized things were a bit more serious than they seemed, and by the time he was 16 and took part in muggings, he wanted out.

Tanner's gang was eventually caught my a larger, older gang, and he and his comrades were on the verge of being hurt or worse for their transgressions against the gang. Under stress, Tanner's powers activated for the first time, and he transformed into the monstrous Tarasque, saving his friends at the cost of maiming a couple other thugs, and gaining a particularly large bounty on his head. Tanner would intermittently fight off raids and hits against his life as the Tarasque, gaining a notorious reputation that would even garner the attention of the police.

Seeing as he and his mother were under danger, Tanner took what money he had saved up from his period of petty crime, which, combined with his frail mother's own savings, were enough to buy a paltry apartment in San Diego to hide in from the gang after him and his mother. As the heat died down, Tanner tried to focus on school, eventually managing to become admitted to Thomsen High while on scholarship, though he would later drop out of the school for disciplinary and financial reasons.

Seeing his mother going through a bout of sickness, Tanner decided to focus his efforts on scrounging together money to help pay for her treatment. With a criminal record looming over his head, and with no other real options, he's been forced to rely on the next best thing he's good at to pay for it: crime. An opportunity presented itself to him in the form of a local metahuman crime lord named "Stonewall," though earning his trust will take time, blood, and sweat.

All the while, the Tarasque's influence over Tanner is spreading; while he doesn't wish to use his powers for his own benefit, power is intoxicating, and it perhaps may be only a matter of time until he reaches a point of no return, and commits fully to the urges of the monster inside of him.

Powers:
Tanner
  • [Peak Human Condition]: By default, Tanner is a very fit person, and as a byproduct of his powers, bulking up and staying fit is surprisingly easy for him. From years of weight training, his strength, speed, agility, and endurance are far above any regular street human, though aren't really noteworthy enough to be "superhuman". As a byproduct of his powers, he also naturally heals faster from injuries provided he has proper care.
  • [Heightened Senses]: As a byproduct of his powers, Tanner's sense of smell, hearing, and his natural night vision are heightened.
  • [Partial Transformation]: Tanner is capable of partially transforming his body into his monster form, be it by transforming his arms into monstrous appendages with claws, transforming his legs to improve his speed, or growing antler-like growths to impale his enemies.
Tarasque
  • [Monster Transformation]: Tanner is capable of fully transforming into the Tarasque, his alternate monster form. The Tarasque is a huge, twelve foot tall furred monster with long, sharp claws, lengthy extremities, sharp branch-like growths, and a skull for a head. In this state, his strength, speed, durability, and endurance are increased heavily. The Tarasque can shrug off most small arms fire and duel toe-to-toe with similarly-sized foes, easily scale obstacles, and effortlessly fling and slice through opponents and barriers.
  • [Rejuvenation]: The Tarasque possesses a healing factor that allows it to recover from superficial wounds like scratches, bites, bullet wounds, and bruises.
  • [Fear Enducement]: The Tarasque is a monstrous being that naturally exudes a frightening aura, and can fill those who face it with fear and a sense of dread.

Limitations:
  • While durable, the Tarasque is not totally immune to small arms fire and can be brought down by larger caliber weapons or sustained small arms fire. Additionally, its regeneration is not instantaneous, but instead takes place over several dozen minutes to hours outside of combat.
  • Tanner's abilities are in direct correlation to his stamina, and if he is tired he will be weaker as the Tarasque. Additionally, excessive use of his transformation abilities will tire him out and weaken him, forcing him to rest.
  • Any damage sustained in Tanner's regular state will transfer to the Tarasque, and vice versa.

Weaknesses:
  • [Human]: As cliche as it sounds, when he is in his human form, Tanner is just a human in the end, and is no stronger than any other human without superpowers.
  • [Electricity]: The Tarasque has a natural weakness to electricity and electricity-based powers. They will deal considerable damage to it.
  • [Holy Magic]: Like electricity, holy magic and abilities of a holy/theistic nature will deal considerable damage to the Tarasque.

Likes: Working out, punk music, eating, horror movies, being outdoors
Dislikes: Rap music, pop music, crime, losing fights

Additional Information (Optional; remove if unused)-
Birthday: February 7
Theme song: Deftones - Leathers
Favorite food: Lamb chops
Greatest fear: Losing control of his abilities

Name: Ginger (Gin) Constantine
Age: 16
Gender: Non-binary (they/she)
Race: Human
Appearance (pics if possible):
Image

Young Blood?: Yes
Bio:

Ginger was an odd child. Their parents had thought them rather lonely for a long time; they did, after all, spend more time bumbling with the bees and humming with the birds than they ever did trying to make friends with more… human peoples. But they never would have thought themself alone at all at that age. The world spoke to them with every breath they took and every second that passed. Even suburban San Francisco was full of the life and language of the natural world. Wind in the trees, dogs barking at their owners, tiny ants building their tiny towers. They'd embraced the way that they could connect with the magical world around them in those days.

There came a time however, as they grew older, where they yearned for a friend. School was difficult for someone who couldn't make friends, someone who was bullied for their powers and their interests. Their heightened senses started to feel almost like a curse, they could hear everyone's nasty comments like tiny little daggers constantly reminding them how truly different, how truly lonely they were. Sure, they could communicate with so many things, but animals and trees were not the same, and sometimes it felt like they couldn't communicate with humans at all. They were an alien on a world that refused to accept them for who they were. So they made, one fateful day, a promise to never use their powers, to never speak to anyone but who they were supposed to. They did their best to look like a normal person and the world's magic began to die around them to be replaced with the grey soulless monotony of young depression. And after some time, they gained those friends, that popularity they'd seeked so. The secrets their heightened senses could acquire made them one of the biggest commodities in the cutthroat throes of suburban middle school. Alas the worst truth about middle school is that often it's the popular kids who can never really be themselves.

It wasn't until her 13th birthday that anything really changed in Ginger's life. They'd been able to hide their powers for many years at that point, and life was running as smoothly as it ever had. That was the day a crow wandered its way into the Golden City and crashed right into the hard glass pane of their bedroom window. Ginger, being worried for the animal's safety, rushed downstairs to collect it, and promptly began cawing in a crow's native tongue to make sure the poor thing hadn't broken a wing or two. I suppose one knows where the story goes from there; someone catches it on tape and that one slip-up costs them every scrap of popularity they ever had. They are once again branded as a weirdo and so goes the friends, the social rank, all of it. That moment, however, differs from what you might expect for one simple reason: the crow was actually a superhero.

It didn't take Ginger very long to figure this out when they took the bird up to their room and it promptly turned back into a human boy and told them to never tell anyone of his true identity. Ginger, ever the contrarian, demanded to know the man's story in return. Turns out his story was much the same. He could (obviously) turn into a crow and he'd grown up hanging out with crows and before long, was left behind in the human world. His efforts for popularity ended him pretty much nowhere and he'd fallen into a long spiral of loneliness before one day waking up and saying "Fuck it, I'm gonna go hang out with crows" and since then he's been a happy guy. He didn't exactly have a grand life even with his superheroism, but he was happy and that was all that mattered.

It wasn't long before Ginger found out about their complete loss of social status and decided that maybe they too would open themselves back up to their powers.

The crow man didn't stay long, refused to ever give his name, and never came back, but nonetheless he kickstarted Ginger's journey into healing - and into superheroism of their own. It started as just some local work, it turns out there were a surprising amount of applicable uses for the ability to translate literally anything. They would save birds or alert the authorities to thieves. And it took them some time, but eventually they became happy with their powers, happy with themselves. An alien could never truly become human in a sense, and they had to embrace that. Soon came high school, a time where everyone tended to become a little more open to change, to difference. They started writing a journal and recording the beautiful music of a world that only they could understand. They came out as non-binary and changed their name to Ginger. Within a few years, they had friends of their own - real friends.

And then San Francisco was attacked, and their life came, once again, to a screeching halt. Cut to present day...

Powers:
  • Universal Translation: With sufficient exposure to any language, pattern, or other form of communication, Gin can translate and permanently understand/recognize said patterns in the future. This extends to everything from the pheromones of plants and animals to the patterns of the seasons and tides to people’s fighting patterns and human, alien, and animal languages. They can even recognize different kinds of waves in the air such as radar, echolocation, and radio waves.
  • Altered Senses: Ginger's senses can pick up even the smallest patterns. There's not really a ton to add here; because she can translate any language, she can obviously also sense any language.
  • Universal Communication: Any language, pattern, or method of communication that Gin has translated, they can reproduce and communicate with as well.
  • Empathic Tuning: Gin’s perfect pattern recognition allows them to deduce emotional tones in any language they can sufficiently understand. The ability is strengthened or weakened heavily by how close they are with that individual however, especially when languages have a very complicated and varying usage of accents/tones/etc.

Limitations:
  • All communication and replication of translated patterns is heavily limited by a human body. If such a practice cannot be performed by a human body, they cannot replicate it. Aka, they cannot suddenly emit flower pheromones, develop bat echolocation, or perform impossible feats of strength.
  • As previously mentioned, ability to recognize emotions of creatures is heavily limited by how much they actually understand or have a connection with that creature. This is especially true with complicated human or alien languages where individual tones are often difficult to perceive and can vary wildly from person to person.

Weaknesses:
  • Weak: That sounds like a pretty dumb weakness, but genuinely one of their biggest issues is that if they get hit by something, they don’t actually have any protection against it. Pattern recognition allows her some ability to dodge problems, but especially if they’re caught by surprise, they don’t have the stamina or constitution to actually fight particularly well.
  • Distracted Perception: Overpowering their senses makes it impossible for them to use said senses as part of their power. If ya can’t hear or see, it’s difficult to translate English being spoken.
  • Emotional Connection: Because they can sense the feelings of so many things around them, they can get emotionally connected to small things by accident and will often put themselves in harms way to protect things that aren’t particularly important in the grand scheme.

Likes: Crows, freaking people out with her abilities, vantage points, old timey pirate attire, silence, natural settings, rain

Name: Joakim Ferro
Age: 17… if you don’t count the time that he was in magical stasis since 1928.
Gender: A Man
Race: Human (Mageborne)
Appearance (pics if possible):

With the mask

casual civilian

The cloak and gas mask are tacky, and it may look absolutely terrifying, but the person underneath is actually kind of… average, in most respects at least. He is 5’5”, with an average build and black rimmed glasses. The hair color seems to change every time he meets with the other Young Bloods, as he is a connoisseur of hair dye.
Young Blood?: Yes
Bio:

Joakim was born in the year 1914, in a hospital in Vladivostok as the latest in an eons long line of mages and superhumans. He came to this world right during the beginning of the Great War that would rock the European Continent right into its core, felling kings and emperors from their thrones. This war, however, would be a far off fantasy for the young Joakim, as his family of secretive psychics and wizards mostly kept to themselves in a secluded island off the coast, though they were ostensibly land and business owners. That is, until the revolution began.

The Empire shattered under the weight of the war, and the Red and White Armies fought for supremacy across its vast lands. The far east would soon feel the ripples rippling from the Russian heartland, and it was decided that they would flee to the United States, claim a new name for themselves, and sooner or later, be forgotten.

Through trickery, magic, and financial connections, the Chernovs, as they were known at the time, fled the war-torn Russia to come into the United States, first coming to Hawaii, then to California, where they would eventually adopt a new name, the Ferros. Joakim was, at the time, merely four years old, and though he would have some fragments of memory, he can barely remember what it was like in land of the east.

Speaking of which, Joakim would spend his childhood and early adolescence in San Diego. He manifested his powers at the age of 10, and through the tutelage of his parents and older siblings, managed to keep it under wraps, though he grew somewhat skilful at its use by the time he was 14. He imbibed a magic blend, simply known as 'spice', in order to empower his portal making abilities, though this was often discouraged since he was still a wee lad.

That, however, was the fateful day. Even he can barely remember what occurred, as memory had degraded during his long sleep, but it was apparent that other mages tried to kill the Ferros after a dispute, resulting in Joakim being afflicted with a terrible poison that at the time could not be cured.

So his family, or what was left of it, did the next best thing they could do. They cast a stasis spell upon him, stopping the poison right at its tracks whilst they hoped to find a cure one day.

Decades, nearly a century had passed, and the great grandchildren of the original Ferros were still carrying the torch, the final will of their forefathers. Four generations had passed before a cure for the magical poison was found, and Joakim was revived three years prior to the current setting. He was, at first, confused and nearly driven insane by the nearly century long sleep he had just woken up from. He had been cured, however, and found himself in a world where he was free to explore the limits of his power and potential. They no longer had to hide.

And so, he tried his best to live in this new world, adapt to new cultures, and bask in the wonders of technology. But alas he could not do it alone. So when found out about the Young Bloods, he immediately took the opportunity to join them. The more, the merrier after all.

Powers:
  • [Spacetime Manipulation]:

The aspect of his power that gives him the moniker of Hyperdrive; Joakim is able to break open cracks in the fabric of space to link one point to another. As such, his portals take the form of literal 'cracks', as if reality is made of glass. It has no known maximum or minimum range, but going beyond 200 kilometers causes such strain that he may either suffer a stroke or brain hemorrhage. In addition to that, portals beyond 10 kilometers will require him to inhale a spice compound in order to ensure more precise calculations.

He requires either memory of the target location, live footage, or a recent picture in order to be able to travel.

In addition to portals, he can also quickly teleport within a range of five meters, up to four times a minute.
  • [Energy Channeling]: Hyperdrive is able to channel energy in raw form. He can fire it as controlled bolts (think of Kingo's finger guns in Eternals), or turn it into an energy shield to protect against incoming attacks.

A side effect of this ability seems to manifest in his blood, as it shines brightly when exposed to air.

Limitations:
  • Spice Dependence; it would seem that Joakim is truly unable to go long distances without taking what he calls 'special medicines'. Some think he's a junky, but all it actually does is hyperfocus mental concentration for a short period of time.

    • Energy Overload; While his hardlight shields are resistant against solid projectiles, melee weapons, and fire, it is weak against energy beams and electricity. In the case of the latter, they overload the shield and cause it to shatter much faster than other threats.

Weaknesses:
  • [Tiring Powers]: Making portals that crisscross through the fabric of reality itself, especially ones that go a long distance, expends quite a lot of energy. As such, Joakim has been left with a voracious appetite and a weakened physicality. He will do no good in close quarters engagements against stronger opponents.

Likes:
Fluffy animals
Pasta
Books, especially hardbound ones
Spices in food
Explosions

Dislikes:
Being called a junky
Tasteless food

Birthday: 02/18/1914

Greatest fear: Getting poisoned AGAIN
