Name: Shihong 'Shi' 'The Red Princess' Smith
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Race: Chinese-English, Human
Appearance (pics if possible):Face, Out of Costume, In Action, Main Costume A, Main Costume B
Young Blood?: Yes

Bio(Please treat this as a replacement for a writing sample. No more than a few paragraphs is necessary but it should be well written):
Shihong 'Shi' Smith's story begins like all great and tragic tales, one of romance and lose. As a a daughter to an upcoming Hong Kong singer, Anita Hui, who had major potential to be one of the first Asian singers to break into the Western Market, her mother would travel to England a few years before Shihong's birth in order to further her career. Once her flight landed in London, she would catch the attention of GCI, a villainous cabal of like minded Media Power Brokers and Cultural Icons, who planned to utilize her for their own nefarious purposes. When she was first contacted by GCI, through one of its many dummy corporations, Anita was entranced by the stories of glamour, wealth, and fame they had offered her. Growing up in abject poverty within the slums of Kowloon, Anita was not prepared for the major lifestyle changes and freedom her new found wealth would bring; she soon descended into long stretches of drugs and overindulgent partying. Many of the leading members of the GCI themselves were known for their excessive alcohol and drug use, and didn't necessarily condemn on Ms.Hui's behavior, however, their patience soon began to wear thin. During this time of hard drug use and liberal use of protection, Ms. Hui soon found herself pregnant, father unknown.

What came after, Shihong does not know. Vague stories of her mother's death or her father disappearance came in fifty different variations over the years. All variations involve her mother dying during childbirth, a week after her first English album topped all major Billboard charts; however, its the little details that changed over the years. Sometimes her handlers would tell her that her father was an English Socialite, other times he was unknown quantity. What ever was the case, Shi first came into the world surrounded by a gilded cage; any desire she ever had was fulfilled by an army of personal assistants and employees. It was during her formative years that the GCI had a new individual ascend into the thralls of leadership and began to bring forth new ideas and plans for expansion; the 'Alien Invasion' and subsequent 'Treaty of New Horizons' had left the organization in odd position. Its previous primary function and goal was the control of all forms of information and cultural thought, however, the discovery of life outside of Earth left many wondering whether they could even continue with said goal. The possibility of new media and cultural exchange left the GCI in a position of possible obsolescence, more direct methods were needed to ensure their continued power. Their new leader, Lazarus, saw Shi as one major asset in his control and thus authorized experimental surgeries and augmentations on her. These augmentations were acquired from some unknown third party, a third party that only promised vague chances of success, however the GCI was brute forcing its own in house meta human program, so thousands of 'candidates' were put through hundreds of variations of these augmentations, from the scientific to the magical, everything was tried. Shi was just one of the few lucky ones.

While the specifics of the augmentations and gene therapies unknown to Shi, she soon was able to generate fire from her limbs through very specific actions and movements. By the age of seven, her life soon became revolved around arduous hours of training, whether it be traditional schooling, vocal lessons, or power manipulation; speaking on the later, her teachers soon began to notice positive correlations resulting from using marital arts techniques with fluid and precise movements. The GCI fashioned her into their own little celebrity by the time she turned eleven, a pre-teen icon that they used to gain a substantial following in England and abroad; thousands of articles and magazine sites were manipulated in order to position her as the up and coming it girl. They cultivated an image of the perfect it girl, a meta-human who sang, and danced, and was gorgeous. By the time she was fourteen she was selling out concerts and fighting 'villains' all in the same day. None of this was natural of course, she was seen as the accidental discovery, somebody who was discovered in a quite little audition. But it didn't matter, the narrative is all that mattered.

Her life for all of its glitz and glamour began to take a toll on the physical health of her, which of course was corrected with another round of surgery or another barrage of medication; as mentioned before, her life seemed perfect but functioned entirely like a prison. Some handlers were instinctively told to be physically and verbally abusive if she failed at her stated goals or assignment, while others were told be nurturing and smothering. This was on purpose, the abuse was painted as a few bad apples in the young girls mind, the real GCI would protect her and give her the tools to let her succeed and provide her the motherly love she dearly wanted. Lazarus was the best example of this, he would regularly surprise her with lavish gifts and cuddle her; only for agents under his orders punish her 'behind' his back. Her media intake was carefully monitored to prevent her from questioning the lack of any paternal figureheads, instead the irregular was presented as the 'true normal'. Only the best was expected of her and she would often have to compete with the other children in the organization for their 'love', this was to program the successful to idolize themselves in terms of their relationship with the Superiors. The failures and weak willed were often seen as a result of their own internal deficiencies, if Shi could accomplish her tasks then why can't they? This distrust soon became a major hallmark within the minds of Shihong, competition and proving how much better you are was a necessary way to show your worth. Life was a zero sum game, true worth a finite resource. And if you wanted to be successful, then shouldn't you look the part? The surgeries and cosmetic 'upgrades' soon became a regular occurrence after her menarche. It started small with minor edits such as rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty then as she became a 'teen' idol these soon involved into another beast entirely. In truth, her more 'Asian' features were toned down and white washed; at least that's what her handles told her. Any sort of acne trouble was quickly removed and skin issues were quickly resolved with no difficulty. The final product was everything her investors were looking for, a true bombshell that all the teenage boys were swoon over and the teenage girls will dream they were. She was expected to put grueling hours at the gym while balancing her studies, and even had to take diet suppression pills as she was discovered to be two pounds over their targeted goal. But she endured, she had too. This was what she made for, and these people throughout her life had taught her to push for this. This was all she had, another life soon became a childish dream. She became more than a success, and from the outside, she was more than happy. All this constant attention, constant pursuit of success, and constant desire to please soon began to warp and manipulate the mind of Shi. While she was a nice and innocent when she was younger, she soon became arrogant, manipulative, and downright sociopathic. Her legion of followers stunted her nominal relations of people, and the constant barrage of 'villains' distorted her sense of morality. She was unaware that these fights were all a fabrication, instead she saw herself doing the world a service through her connections to the GCI; she was told to keep her connection a secret, it was the job of the most powerful to lead the weak. It was her divine right, she was born into greatness, they were not.

By the time she was sixteen she soon discovered through that through sheer determination and arduous physical and mental training, she could run conjure lightening and electricity from the tips of her fingers. This was much more destructive and precise than her simple fire balls. This new power-set caught the attention of Lazarus who saw the need to move her into a new location and position, one where they can better monitor actions with the West. Their largest chapter, Los Angeles, had been keeping a close eye on the recent movements of the Young Bloods Organization and requested a new asset within their disposal in order to better monitor it. Shi's recent album success and her dismantling of a major criminal organization, who were also suspiciously a major GCI competitor, within the heart of London made her the perfect candidate for the position. So this is where she is now, going halfway across the world to become apart of a team organization despite being a solo hero for most of her life. What's the worse that can happen, a pop star joining a group of hot heads?

Powers
  • [Fire Manipulation]: The ability to generate fire in a variety of manners through her limbs by following specific techniques and art forms. Their heat, color, and intensity vary depending on her mood, environment, and physical limitations. Her most common flame comes in a bright blue color.
  • [Lightening Manipulation]: The ability to generate streams of electricity through the tips of her fingers. These streams once produced travel at the speed of light and produce an energy output similar to a standard lightening strike.
(Note, you do not have a maximum or minimum of 2 powers. If you don’t need all those, delete them. If you need more, copy and paste.)
  • [Fire Resistant]: Her skin is incredibly resilient to heat and fire damage, although this begins to break down once they succeed her own intensity.
  • [Incredibly Agile]: Her relatively thin figure was carefully edited and trained to be quick and precise. She favors speed over all else and constant movement to keep her enemy on their toes.
  • [Tactical Mind]: The GCI soon saw her mental aptitude to be just as important as her mental. Light cybernetics were applied, although her own natural intelligence was what made an attractive target at first. Her cold and calculating demeanor plays off this, and she often sees some lives to be expendable in order to accomplish the mission; a fact she would never admit too, you have to keep up appearances.

Limitations:
  • As said before her ability to generate fire depends on the environment and her own physical condition. Cold or low oxygen environments may mean her abilities are severely weakened. Her powers are magnified by the presence of heat and the sun, and the inverse of cold and the moon leaves her diminished.
  • While the ability to generate lightening can be incredibly powerful, it requires very specific movements and a 'large wind up' in order for the electricity to be generated. This also holds true for the flame manipulation, but to a lesser degree.
  • She isn't a smart AI, her decisions in the battlefield maybe good and helpful; however she is limited by own lack of data, and mental capacity.
  • As stated earlier, she can and will get burned if temperature far exceeds her own abilities.
  • She's agile and quick, but only as fast as a peak human. Any individual with an actual speed or agile mutation will blow her out of the park.

Weaknesses (Reasons why someone could kick their ass):
  • [Still only 'Peak' Human]: Despite all of her augmentations and training, overt physical harm can and will damage her. She also ages like anyone else and any damage will require an appropriate response depending on the severity.
  • [Mental State]: Despite her pretense as an over achieving, perfect Queen B; inside her facade is a scared and angry little girl. While she succeeds greatly under external pressure, feelings or ideas that make her self worth will be quick to cause her break. However, her own distrust of others means she is very unlikely to pursue adequate care.

Very interesting app, I like it. I only have two things to bring up. The first is that in this universe human technology isn't quite capable of inducing superpowers; the crystals that grant superpowers have a greater tendency to target people under stressful conditions, so if the augmentation procedures performed on Shi were particularly stressful, then they could've indirectly caused her to develop powers, but they wouldn't be the direct cause (note that this doesn't apply to the cybernetic augmentations done to her brain).

The second is just that I'm a little concerned about the output of her lightning ability, since lightning strikes are very powerful.

Beyond those two things, though, everything looks great, good job -nods-

I kept it purposely vague as I wasn't sure about this part. Should I state that the GCI purposely put her through these conditions to see if there was a correlation. Like they know they can't give superpowers but made the surgeries painful as they had a belief that there was a connection?

What would you recommend for the lightening strikes? Maybe like the intensity of the fire, the longer charge up, the most powerful the blast?

Yeah, that solution sounds good, not unreasonable to think the CGI might believe there's a connection.

Regarding the lightning strikes, well, maybe just tone it down to firmly non-lethal levels (since I believe lightning strikes are potentially lethal and cause at least permanent damage most of the time). Or just keep it as is if you wish, but make sure you uphold the limitation you put in place (needing a long wind-up or 'casting' time); I believe if the wait time is long enough, then this alone is an adequate drawback.

Good.

I will ensure that limitation is held in place.

If that's everything, am I accepted?

Yep. Feel free to post in the IC. I'll add Shi to the archive next time I get around to doing an update (I don't tend to do them all that often anymore unless work quickly piles up, so yeah).

Name: Jason Reynolds
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance: Normal Suited Up
Young Blood?: Yes
Bio: Jason hasn't had it easy. Between the parents who couldn't decide if they wanted to stay together or split and the fact that he was not a particularly good student didn't help. He mostly kept to himself, watching TV or taking long walks around the city to avoid going home to his arguing parents. Making friends wasn't easy when all you can think and talk about is people arguing. Jason's first friend however, was quite an oddity. The apartment he lived in was no stranger to mold due to it's rather drab upkeep. However, one day as he decided to make his way home for the night, he swore he saw something move. Doing what any rational human would do when confronted with a moving blob of darkness and ran into his apartment as fast as he could and hoped his brain was playing tricks on him.

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your perspective, it wasn't a hallucination. The black sludge had made it's way into his room, and attached itself to Jason in his sleep. He awoke just as it finished and almost had a panic attack when he caught a look at himself covered in a thick, black ooze. What was even more surprising was that it spoke to him. At first in jumbled words, but it became more coherent after a few minutes. Jason's fear quickly eroded somehow. He couldn't explain it, but either it had stopped him from being afraid, or it just felt... Normal? Not normal, natural. Like it was a different part of his body. The fact that it spoke to him was quite odd, but it didn't seem malevolent. Quite the opposite really. That and a little confused, more like it had just achieved consciousness and was exploring emotions and higher thought without really understanding it and using Jason's brain as a filter.

For awhile Jason kept his "friend" a secret and would often spend a lot of time out at night figuring out what they could do together. Which was actually quite a lot. Between crawling around the city, swinging between buildings and moving a car parked illegally in front of a fire hydrant, Jason was ecstatic that he had powers. One thing he noticed was that his "friend" would lure him to restaurants that had closed for the day and insisted that he grab all the slightly stale donuts and cheeseburgers he could and scarf them down. Jason obviously didn't want to dumpster dive for old food, but at the same time got the urge to. Instead, Jason promised him that he would get food for the both of them, that wasn't from a dumpster. The mold didn't really care, it just wanted something with substance. Over the next while, he began eating much more of whatever was in the fridge, even things that he normally wouldn't even think about eating, like pickles to keep his partner sated.

It worked until his parents started noticing that the fridge was emptying faster than usual, and of course took to blaming each other. Jason was frustrated and even the mold suggested that he help "fix" their relationship with violence. Jason wasn't interested since they barely even remembered that he existed and had every intention of leaving once he found a place to stay. One night, as he was swing around the town to blow off some steam, he found one of those old stores that had TVs in the window playing news reports. The new anchors talked about a young group of upstart heroes called the Young Bloods and the controversies surrounding them. Neither of them cared too much for that, but controversies meant attention and attention meant money. Money which could be exchanged for near infinite amount of day old hotdogs.
Powers:
  • [Infusion]: Jason's power allows him to impart reality altering effects onto objects. These infusions draw from a well of abilities and vary based on his perception of the item in question. The first few will impart the new abilities, while subsequent infusions make the abilities grant slightly more powerful.
    Current Items:
Baton: Energy shell: The weapon is coated in a shell of energy that greatly increases it's durability and acts as a catalyst for every other ability.
Range Extension: The baton's range can be extended by many meters.
Shapeshfiting: The baton's energy shell can be shaped by Jason's will into simple shapes, usually different melee weapons.

    Helmet: A full headed helmet.
Enhanced senses: Contary to the helmet's design, Jason's eyesight and hearing are improved drastically while wearing it.
Enhanced durability: The Helmet is highly resistant to damage.

    Chest plate
Enhanced Strength: Jason's strength is multiplied to superhuman levels.
Enhanced Durability: The chestplate offers the highest amount of resistance to damage in comparison to the other two.

    Leg Armor
Gravity Distortion: The legs can reduce gravity for a brief period, allowing Jason to jump extraordinarily high and shrug off falls from great heights.
    Enhanced Durability: Self explanatory.

Limitations:
  • Contact[b]: In order for the objects to have their abilities, Jason has to be in constant physical contact or the items will lose their effects.
  • Recharge: Jason only gets a single infusion once a day, after he wakes up from sleeping. He can gain additional infusion charges if he goes through a particularly stressful encounter.

Weaknesses:
  • Need the items: Jason needs to be wearing his armor to gain it's benefits, which he often doesn't. Finding a way to remove the armor would also work.

Name: The Russian Federation (Росси́йская Федера́ция)
Type: Country
Location: Eurasia
Population: 144,526,636
Notable features:
  • The Russian Federation sits comfortably as the fifth-largest economy in the world with the largest mineral and energy reserves on the planet. It enjoys a high HDI and high GDP, and is looking to be on the rise as a potential superpower in the future. Various modernization programs have drastically improved the standards of living, also making the infrastructure on par with countries such as the United States. However, it also carries a less glamorous fact: it has the largest stockpile of WMDs in the world and boasts the status of the second most powerful military in the world, for various reasons to be explained...
  • Russia has had... improving relationships, with the West, to say the least. The current President, Oleg Martyanov, a former KGB Commander, is apparently an important ally of the current American President, so much so that the POTUS apparently turned a blind eye against the sudden invasion of Crimea and subsequent intervention into an anti-Russian superhuman-led insurgency in Ukraine, leading to its quick defeat at the hands of better-equipped Russian soldiers. Russian military advisors have also allegedly cooperated with American and British special forces involved in the Middle East, as the country as a whole used its new military power and advancement to quickly end conflicts and insurgencies that would've taken years in mere months. However, the country seems to be running on a strictly interventionalist foreign policy, only intervening in conflicts it sees as dangerous to Russian interests. Thus, it has not involved itself in the Korean peninsula or the Middle East following the invasion of Iraq.
  • Russia's new government, on paper, seems to be a fairly democratic constitutional republic, similar in function to the United States, even. Strict programs were initiated to prevent disenfranchisement of minority voters, among other efforts, to allow for more people to vote in federal and local elections. Various public school programs also served the interests of superhumans, aiming to help the population better understand their superpowered neighbors. Behind the scenes, however, Martyanov and his inner circle of advisors from the Russia First party absolutely run the show as a sort of shadow government, cooperating a great deal with the Russian Mob and wealthy business oligarchs in a compromise that, admittedly, has kept organized crime off the streets of every major Russian city, at the cost of allowing the Mob and oligarchs to control many aspects of Russia's large urban centers. The government has used its tight relationship with the Mob to infiltrate dissident groups and terrorist organizations who rely on the Mob's funding, quelling them quickly.
  • Among other measures introduced by Martyanov's administration in the wake of the Soviet Union's fall, federally-funded social security was made universal while public education was made free to all who qualified. Working students were given one paid week before every major examination. With the guidance of brilliant architects, vast low-income housing projects were created throughout the country to aid the poor and working-class, and paid vacations became the norm. All workers—including white-collar employees—were guaranteed free medical care and half their trip expenses paid for, while mothers-to-be received three paid months off prior to and after giving birth. High-tech workers' recreation and entertainment centers were erected throughout the country, while the national infrastructure—especially in the far reaches of the country—were improved to standards on par with most Western countries.
  • Russia was not damaged by the global recession as much as most countries were, due to Europe's reliance on Russian oil when Middle Eastern oil became sparse and/or stopped coming in at all. Cooperation between superhuman Russian scientists that had an affinity for technology and their alien equivalents allowed the country to skyrocket in terms of technological advancement, leading to its unexpectedly high global ranking today. The technopathic scientists and aliens also had another, less public purpose: strengthening the military. In just under a decade, Russia's military became one of the most advanced and formidable in the world, rivaled only by the United States, who pushed similar programs to cooperate with high-tech companies and technopathic scientists earlier than Russia. The Russian Military's "peace through overwhelming firepower" mantra allowed it to quickly quell conflicts in Syria, Ukraine, and Chechnya, asserting its political, economic, and military dominance throughout Europe. Among other things, infantry-based power armor became standard for all soldiers, as did railguns, juggernauts, VTOLs, and laser satellites. Due to Martyanov's strictly interventionalist foreign policy, however, the military is only used to respond to domestic conflicts and international conflicts that danger Russian interests. Nonetheless, it serves as a quick means of ending said conflicts...
  • Historically, Russia has remained indifferent towards superhumans and aliens in their society, with both having the potential to serve in the government, while some (aliens) have already. While Russian superhumans as heroes and villains have operated independently from any other NGO or superhero organization for the majority of the country's history, the Russian Mob and several wealthy oligarchs have, at times, used superhumans and alien mercenaries to push their agendas as powerful enforcers. During Martyanov's first term, from 2000 to 2008, the Russian Government banned vigilantes and made "supervillainy" a punishable crime in the law (though it allows proper, recognized superhero groups like the United Champions, and most police are corrupt enough to accept bribes or cooperate with vigilantes.) While superhumans themselves are not banned or persecuted, the ban on vigilantism has led to an outcry from pro-superhuman nations, citing the decision as a "Human rights violation." However, what they do not know is the government itself is cooperating with several technopathic superhumans behind the scenes, the same ones responsible for Russia's astronomical military growth, to create high-tech special forces teams specifically designed to counter super-powered threats and terorrists.

Year founded: 1991 (Dissolusion of Soviet Union and creation of Russian Federation)
Active heroes/villains of note: Igor Casitov (United Champions)

Faction Name: GRU Division К
Faction Location/Territory: Russian Federation
Tech Level: Post-Modern

Description/Lore:
GRU Division K (otherwise known as the Kaspersy unit or K Unit, or simply K) is, on paper, a highly-selective counter-terrorism Spetsnaz Division of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), Russia's prime military intelligence agency. In reality, it is a secretive, elite black operations task force of the GRU, specializing in counter-superhuman tactics among counter-terrorist tactics.

While Russia did possess a viable counter-terrorist capability by 1992, when the GRU was created, it did not consider the possibility of superhuman-based threats attacking cities like Moscow and St. Petersberg, both wealthy cities that could afford police departments capable of deterring vigilantism. The need for a military-based CTU capable of responding to superhuman threats then arose when Martyanov took power in 2000. Around that time, an incident known as the Kaspersy school incident occurred, in which Chechen militants assisted by superhuman insurgents took hundreds of students and teachers hostage in North Ossetia, leading to a messy Russian military response after local police were dismissed, in which 300 hostages died, while every single terrorist had been killed. Martyanov then accepted the possibility that such a monumental event could occur again, and that Russia was still a likely target for another superhuman-based terrorist attack. This necessitated the creation of a military CTU that could override the authority of civilian law enforcement agencies and military elements for high-risk missions, remaining as discrete and classified as possible and using the most advanced technology the country had to offer to complete their goals. The result was the Kaspersy Unit, which would later become a special task force under the GRU.

Today, the unit is made up of thousands of commandos, all of whom are subdivided into 15-man tactical teams comprised of one team leader, one sniper, one medic, one negotiator, one EOD expert, one communications specialist, one intelligence specialist, and eight tactical assaulters. All of these tactical teams answer to the Kaspersy Unit's Strategic Command (СТРАТКОМ), an inner circle comprised of high-ranking GRU members that meet via teleconference with the President monthly at a discrete location to discuss their situation to the President. While the division's members and composition is classified, its existence is known, just very little of it. This has led to conspiracy theories being created about the group, with some citing them as the cause of the political instability in Ukraine or the perpetrators of various coups around the world, as well as the disappearances of local Russian vigilantes.

Population Size: 2,000
Army Size (If any): 2,000
Races that are part of the faction: Humans
Additional Info:
  • The rigorous training period for Division K covers a rather lengthy list:
    • Combat shooting
    • Airborne insertion
    • HALO/HAHO parachuting and insertion
    • Combat swimming/diving
    • CBRN tactics
    • Counterintelligence
    • Counterterrorist Tactics
    • Reconnaissance
    • Survival Tactics
    • Heavy equipment usage
    • Experimental weapon usage
    • Counter-superhuman tactics
    • Explosives and EOD
    • Sniping
    • Intelligence gathering
    • Martial arts and CQC
    • VIP protection
    • Hostage rescue
    • Offensive driving
  • There also exists a special program within the Kaspersy unit, codenamed KOBRA. It is a highly covert, highly-secretive research program specializing in Reverse Engineering and Prototyping (REAP) and cybernetics research. Its existence has been debated throughout the years, with many denying such a group even exists. In actuality, it does. It does not operate under the GRU like the rest of Division K does, making it effectively immune to prosecution. Its goals are unknown, but similar to the Kaspersy Unit's: to stop superhuman terrorist threats from endangering the national security of the Russian Federation.

Zark, can you put my characters to the rest/graveyard/holiday? I may be logged in to NS but not involved in RPs. Sorry about that, I seemed to lost interest in roleplaying for real this time and will take some kind of sabbatical absence from roleplaying.

Thank you. I'm still going to take a look in NS, but not involved in any RPing whatsoever.

Made another archive update. Removed Knockout's characters and added Jason. Also edited the birthday calendar accordingly.

EDIT: Also added Shi to the archive and calendar.

Hey guys, so I'm thinking of jumping back into this again now that I have free time. Anyone care to explain what's going on so far storywise?

The last half of the official summary post should get ypu up to speed. But to sum it up a lot after the Blood Drug arc the YB have moved on to guarding a facility from a corporation called Wonder Foundation which is currently being attacked by the Cabal. Any more info is in the summary. Which should be this:
