Name: Karolyn Knight | Apex
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance:
Image

Young Blood?: No. Yes.
Bio:
Atypical in her ideology, Karolyn is somewhat of a fangirl for villains and anti-heroes, and chooses to follow them and their lifestyle not out of tragedy or spite, but because she genuinely thinks villains are cooler than heroes. She has had a normal upbringing, a bit too much freedom on the internet, without much hardship or things going wrong. She would stay up late on message boards and forums debating and defending her favorite villains and why they would effortlessly defeat any given hero like a true and dedicated troll, but her internet friends and allies in such debates did not translate into real life, and she was often ostracized for her adoration of hero killers.

Her obsession turned grim when her powers began to manifest, however, as she realized that not only could she serve along her villainous heroes, but she herself could become one as she tested the limits of her new-found powers as she came into puberty. Growing in strength as her age progressed, Karol's late night trolling simply faded away as she snuck out of the house in order to cause mayhem and chaos in her local neighborhood and city, San Diego. Her activities were soon uncovered by her local police department, and subsequently, her parents.

A minor setback for the young villainess, but one that provided some opportunity as her parents forcibly enrolled her in Thomsen High to better utilize her powers and turn her to good. Steadfast in her beliefs, Apex uses her activities in the school as a means to gather information on up-and-coming heroes and heroines, remaining bitter and ostracized for her rude demeanor and pessimistic attitude towards established heroes and the study of them. Labelled a problem child by her teachers, extra efforts are underway to right the wrongs in her philosophy on what it means to do good and be righteous in society, how villains are not just "cool dudes" but hardened criminals, unafraid to harm and maim any soul caught in their wrath.

Eventually, a breakthrough came as Karolyn began to work with the councilors and teachers assigned to help her, where she described how not all villains are ruthlessly evil or intent on murder and chaos. There were some, she agreed, but others had complex motives and reasons for their actions, deep-seated anger at how society can so easily toss away their humanity without a thought which then cements their resolve, and pits them forever against heroes. To her, heroes represented an unstable and dangerous status quo that continuously pushed down on and oppresses those with differing opinions on what it means to do right and correct the wrongs of the world. In a final statement, Karol expressed her fear of being alone, and understood that her way of thinking would just condemn her to villainous society, where she wouldn't be alone in her thoughts. From then on, the girl began to put forth effort in her studies and social abilities, allowing her to come out of her shell despite her villainous tendencies.

Powers:
  • [Supernatural Condition]: Stronger, faster, more durable than normal humanity to such an incredible degree, Karol is able to effortlessly break Mach 1 speeds and survive disastrous explosions with little damage. She's able to lift aircraft carriers with some strain, and deal out strikes that can topple city streets. Despite that, she is unable to fly or think faster than she can move.
  • [Damage Empowerment]: In the best superhero lottery ever, Apex is able to become more powerful from the little that can damage her. A technique she calls "Fighting Spirit", Karol will continue to move forward and keep fighting against all odds and whatever is against her, growing stronger, faster, and more durable the more punishment she takes.

Limitations:
  • Overwhelmed: Karol needs a little time to get going with her Fighting Spirit, so an attack of overwhelming force and power can knock her out cold.
  • Mental Attacks: Possessing little to no defenses against anything to do with the mind, she can easily be controlled or attacked with telepathy or telekinesis.

Weaknesses (Reasons why someone could kick their ass):
  • [Telekinesis]: Able to deal with physical powers all day long, Karol has an acute weakness when it comes to dealing with mental strength and all of it's power applications. For example, lifting her with telekinesis would be like lifting any normal 16-year old girl. Her attacks do less damage against such users, and her durability falls sharply against them.
  • [Magic]: Unable to cope with Magic in any capacity, Karol has little defense against mystic arts. Casting spells against her is as easy as any normal human, and her physical abilities are diminished when faced with magical threats.

Likes: Villains, History, Food, Fighting
Dislikes: Unjust Heroes, Losing, Hunger

Greatest Fear: Being alone

Just a question, but are the abilities granted by these Dragon Crystals genetic? Would they be passed from generation to generation?

They aren't necessarily inheritable, but they can be. Think of it as someone getting a power and then also the "power" to have their children inherit it.

This character is very interesting, am curious how you want to work her into the story? I see a bunch of options but wanted to know what you have in mind.

Basically, Karolyn wants to be a villain for not exactly great reasons, and through a character arc, winds up abandoning her villainous desires and joins with the Young Bloods. She is in love with the idea of villains but once she starts seeing their true nature and how many are simply assholes with powers, she begins to find herself at a bad spot between both villains and heroes. Karol goes about this by joining one of the villainous factions and finds her notions completely shattered, and and eventually reaches a point where she is either committed to going over the moral event horizon or staying with the only friends she's ever made: The Young Bloods.

I like that, maybe she joins the YB at first though? If for no other reason that to expose herself to villains that she could betray join.

That will work - I have in her bio how she's in Thomsen High, not by her choice, but she still uses the opportunity to learn more about what future heroes she would face. I'll edit accordingly.

Name: Wyatt Sutherlund/Bael De'Chataka
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Dra'Qunni
Appearance: Human, True body. Minus the novelty sized sword
Young Blood?: Yup
Bio: In truth no one knows who Bael's true parents were, but when his adoptive parents force their way out of their stasis pods and saw a hatching sitting on the ground, they knew that they couldn't just leave him there. So they took the infant with them as they made their way to the surface. Fortunately it was from a cave quite a fair distance away from civilization, but that didn't stop them from discovering the truth of the new world that awaited them: They were out for far longer than they were supposed to be. An entirely new people had taken over the planet, and they were alone. Fortunately his mother had enough magical knowledge to create and teach a glamour spell that would hide them among the humans.

It took quite a bit of luck, but they managed to get a house, and both made their living with manual labor, due to not having the paperwork to get jobs that didn't pay in cash. It was rough to start with, but then came their next obstacle: Bael was getting older, and human laws dictated that he had to attend school. However, there was good news: They found out about homeschooling. They could teach him without him having to go to the human schools. At least until he was old enough to preform the glamour spell on himself. So they did until he reached the age of 8 was was able to use magic unassisted. He was more than eager to go to a human school to meet other human children, with intent to befriend them.

However, human social cues were not something he was not taught at home, so it was a rough start. Kids were mean, teasing him and mocking him for his odd speech patterns. It was hard at first, but there were some kids he managed to make friends with. It took quite a bit off effort not to reveal his secret to them, but he kept quiet knowing that things would be far worse if he did tell them. Even if they didn't believe his story, it would surely lead to more laughter at his expense. He was good at school, maintaining high grades throughout all of his scholastic life. One thing he noticed was that he was adapting to human culture a bit better than his parents were. He was being exposed to it almost constantly since he was a child, but it was a small thing. They were ecstatic for him over trivial things. Which he found odd.

However, when he was told about a group of students intending to sneak out to some island, he was not interested in going until he told his parents about it...
Powers:
  • Dra'Qunni Elder Physiology: He is exceptionally stronger and tougher than the average member of his race along with significantly greater magic potential. He also heals much faster, being able to heal minor to moderate injuries in a day.
  • Terramancy: He can telekinetically control things like stone or concrete

Limitations:
  • Line of Sight: He can only control stone if he can see it.
  • Dra'Qunni: He shares their same limitations.
  • Speed of Stone: Using terrakinesis requires a bit of focus, and requires him to either walk or stop completely.

Weaknesses:
  • Dra'Qunni: Standard Dra'Qunni weaknesses. Bael doesn't fair well in cold temperatures for extended periods of time.
  • Silencing: Suppressing his magic will leave him effectively powerless.
Likes: Inhumanly spicy food, Breaking Bad, Video games. His friends and parents. Pastries. Magic. Anything with meat as a main ingredient.
Dislikes: Veggies, cold weather, insects, his magic not working "right." His parents trying far too hard to be "normal human parents."

Additional Information-
Birthday: Was found hatched July 17, 2001
Theme song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JX5oqajjbY
Favorite food: Cheeseburgers
Greatest fear: His magic growing beyond his control

Sure thing. A spicy lil redhead who thinks playing villain is cool against the awkward child of Captain America and the Punisher held together with the Extremis virus, I'm down.

That is the best way i have ever hear him described. As for his role in the school...he might just post up in a near by house and watch the school...or, idk, be the gym teacher?

I could see him being the gym teacher. A bit too stern, always after the best result time and time again, but is secretly watching the young adults to see who is the most dangerous and in need of being placed under indefinite watch.

Faction Name: The Scáth Order
Faction Location/Territory: Headquartered in Inverness Castle, Scotland. Has several bases of operation in every continent.
Tech Level: High Middle Ages
Description/Lore:
The Order began long ago, shortly after the construction began on the Antonine Wall. A Pictish man was empowered by a strange crystal, and he proceeded to unite the Brigantes and send them on the warpath against the Romans. However his dreams of a free Britannia did not come to pass by his hands, not directly anyhow. A faction of Druids attacked him with their sorcery, forcing him to retreat into the shadows of society. The man gathered more followers in secret, creating a parasite within Roman Britain that eventually secured its downfall. He sought revenge against the Romans, though the reason for his hate is lost to history. The Order's Legend states that He pursued the future Emperor Pertinax back to Rome, where he eventually engineered the Praetorian uprising that ended Pertinax's life. He did the same to the next Emperor, Didius Julianus. This was his mistake, as the next Emperor Septimius Severus lead an attack into Caledonia. He poisoned Severus, causing the campaign to fail, but from then onward, the Order was more cautious in how they operated.

The Founder of the Order passed his abilities onto his children, and they to theirs, causing a swell in the numbers of the Order. They remained in the dark, striking out to destabilize the world order simply because they could. They ensured that Rome would never rise again, as their Founder wished, and went about prolonging its long and painful demise. They caused disasters on a continental scale, such as when they designed and released the Black Plague, or engineered Genghis Khan's rise to power, or killed Harold Godwinson. Why did they do all of this? Because they could.

The Order managed to remain relatively untouched by the ravages of the recent century, though several outposts have been lost (Such as the Prussian, Chinese, and Novgorod Sanctuaries).
Population Size: Around 100
Army Size: About 60, the rest are non-combat members (scribes, messengers and the like)
Races that are part of the faction:Humans, some empowered, some sorcerers, some just regular humans. Various beasts of myth, Asuwang, al-jinn, and the like
Additional Info: The Order is really only here for Character depth and his personal story arc. They could attempt a world Coup at some point, if my character decides to be a villain, but that is completely up to you guys. I'll rework things if you guys don't like it.

Name: James Packard (alias) - Amandil (Birth Name) - Myrddraal (Name given by the Order)
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance (pics if possible):
His skin is oddly pale for a young man in California, and no matter how much sun he gets he can't seem to get a tan. His eyes shift color of their own accord, staying within normal blue-green-brown hues throughout the day, but change to unnatural red, white or black when he uses his powers.

Image

Young Blood?: Yes, at least prospective.
Bio: James Packard was born in a New York hospital to a young couple. His father was a small business owner and his mother a content stay at home mom. He has three siblings, two sisters and a brother, each as crazy as the next. He's studying to be an physicist and eventually become a researcher at a big university. He's just a regular kid who happens to have superpowers. At least, that's what he tells everyone, and that's what all the official records say.

In truth he was born in the Order's secret stronghold beneath the Inverness Castle to a family of murderers and terrorists. His lineage was one of death and power, corruption and darkness. He was slated to be the next leader of the Order when he became old enough, and his abilities were the strongest of the past few generations. The Order had plans for the newborn, plans to make him a king. James, or Amandil as his parents had named him, was to be a new power when he'd matured enough. Until that day, however he was supposed to be like any other Order member, and expected to uphold the same standards and training regiments as them. He learned to use a variety of weapons from bows to javelins to swords. He was trained in how to seed terror among his foes.

Though James would never admit it, he hated the idea of being the kind of villain that he was supposed to be. The thought of unmatched power and authority had a certain allure, but he desperately pushed those thoughts away. The Order has sent him on a mission to infiltrate Thomsen High School in San-Diego and eventually destroy it from within. His cover was perfect, and he was given no particular timeframe for his mission, only that he should sow as much chaos as he could within the ranks. He transferred into the school last year and has spent most of that time 'networking' within the student body, at least that's what he put on his reports. He was actually just trying to make friends and enjoy being a teenager, it was new experience for him. It was nice being able to walk around without having to worry about being eaten by the Asuwang for once.
Powers:

  • Enhanced Senses: Allows him to essentially perceive things at an increased capacity, making things seem like they're happening in slow motion, however this has its limitations, namely the fact that he's not supernaturally fast, so just because he can see a bullet coming a mile away doesn't mean he can actually dodge it. There are some other drawbacks listed below.
  • Enhanced Reflexes, strength, speed, and endurance -: Not much to say here. His natural abilities are slightly better than peak human. He'll never be as fast as Quicksilver, or as strong as Colossus, or as enduring as Wolverine, but he is definitely more than a human.
  • Psychometric Reflexes: An extension of his enhanced senses, allows him to copy just about any action by seeing it done. This has applications from creating artwork to killing people. Has limitations, as he cannot copy someone effectively if they are augmenting their combat with powers such as superspeed, he can only do the same moves at regular human speed. While there is no hard limit to what he can copy, he does begin to forget things the more he learns, and some skills degrade over time. As long as he trains in these areas they shouldn't degrade much though.
  • Shadow Step: His ability to teleport using shadows. He simply has to step into a shadowed area and he can easily transport to any connecting shadow, including through buildings (his usual method of escape), though going from shadow to an unconnected shadow is much more difficult (as in, he cannot currently do it, but he thinks it's possible). He doesn't have this skill mastered just yet. There are limitations (yay!). He cannot teleport a long distance (yet), probably just around a city block if he strains himself, usually resulting in an intense headache and possible fainting.

Limitations:
  • As stated above, he can only teleport so far, a limited stride if you will.
  • His skills and training revolve around melee and archaic weapons, and his abilities are limited when used with technology. Most tech more advanced than a radio will stop working when he shadow steps, for instance.

Weaknesses:
  • Enhanced Senses: It's a double edged sword, really. He can turn them on and off, to a degree, but there is still a level of heightened awareness. This leads to flash-bang grenades going from fairly effective to downright murderous. Any sound or light based weapon or power will royally mess him up. He dislikes guns, as they hurt his ears far more than they do the average persons, though he doesn't seem to suffer any permanent hearing damage, to his relief. Bright lights, loud noises, and pranks are big no-nos.
  • Physical Strain:Gets headaches as well as the occasional migraines if he uses his powers too much, though his threshold is increasing with age and use.
  • All 'magic' leaves traces:He leaves IR traces when he uses his shadow step, leaving a very bright spot where he dissipated and a similar one forms at his destination, however it appears before he actually arrives making it easy to predict his movements with infra-red goggles.
(Note, you do not have a maximum or minimum of 2 weaknesses. If you don’t need all those, delete them. If you need more, copy and paste.)

Likes: Being around his friends. Procrastinating in his mission. Being a little bit evil.
Dislikes: Filling out reports. Being too evil, life's a balancing act.

Apex would probably work as a good foil for Wendy as well given that she's a former villain (even if she's very small time) trying to put as much distance from her old life as possible.

Name: Mark Nemo | Ultra
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance:
Image

Young Blood?: No - Warhound.
Bio: WIP
Powers:
  • [Positron Manipulation]: Able to channel and direct positrons, the antimatter equivalent of electrons, Ultra is able to release violent and cataclysmic explosions when his particles interact and annihilate their positive matter counterparts. There seems to be no little to his emission of positrons, but his control over them is less than a city block's worth of range.
  • [Supernatural Condition]: In order to be the conduit between a positive matter universe and the pocket dimension of positron storage, Ultra is extremely physically fit, able to deal out vast amounts of damage with his brute strength alone, not to mention tank incredible blows and the very explosions he creates with his immense durability. As a matter of fact, his durability far exceeds his strength or speed ability, closely approaching invulnerability due to his immense amount of defensive power.

Limitations (Reasons why your char can’t end the universe):
  • Range: Though Mark can unload seemingly endless streams of positrons to create ungodly amounts of collateral damage, his control over them is less than a city block in distance, meaning long-ranged attacks and keeping a mindful distance are quite effective in limiting his damage.
  • Matter: Positrons react explosively with matter, meaning a steady stream of matter against Ultra can severely limit his ability to emit positrons, and will force the explosions closer to his body, thereby damaging him moreso than his surroundings.

Weaknesses (Reasons why someone could kick their ass):
  • [Frequency]: A keen analyst and observer will note a sharp vibration whenever Ultra unleashes his powers. This is because his channeling of positrons works by tuning into a specific vibrational frequency. This can be canceled with anti-vibrations to cancel the frequency and close the portal, so to speak, to wherever Ultra gathers his anti-particles from.
  • [Stamina]: To repeatedly and routinely summon up vast amounts of positrons takes skill, focus, and tremendous amounts of energy. In a prolonged fight, Ultra can very well tire out if forced to continuously bring forth particles.

Dislikes: Injustice, Inequality, Uncontrollable Circumstances

I'm down, Apex can be more outgoing and social, especially if she finds out that Wendy was a villain. Expect idolization and other moments of hilarity.

Dangerous watch there, friendo, I shall keep an eye out.

Yes, I feel as if Mythius was purposely put in the school to target such individuals, and Apex happens to be a prime case. Too powerful, too in love with villainy, shows no desire to use her powers for good beyond a passing grade. All-around danger if not contained.

Name: Icarus Sarantos
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance: Here. His Surge costume looks like this, with dark blue instead of black and no visor.
Young Blood?: No
Bio: Icarus Sarantos was the only child of a rather infamous couple, formed of Jason and Dora Sarantos, two Diluvian villains who made their living off of the rich and the poor alike and had no respect whatsoever for the law. Of course, despite being villains, they weren't heartless or abusive, never treating their son with cruelty; in fact, they tended to dote on him and pamper him with stolen luxuries instead. The young Icarus was obviously too little to understand the source of his life's comforts or the misdeeds of his parents, simply accepting things as they came, and all was well for a while. However, an opulent life built on such rotten foundations would not last, and soon the Sarantos committed the mistake of stealing jewels from an estate that belonged to a powerful member of a multinational corporation. Exactly a month afterwards, Icarus' mother Dora was murdered by the Scarlet Sword, who collected the bounty that had been placed on her head.

Icarus had been only 10 years old at the time, and the loss of his mother was a devastating blow. Immediately after the event, Jason took his grieving son and left the country in order to escape retribution, hiding with a brother-in-law who had moved to the United States. There, far away from home and from their enemies, he thought himself and his son safe. But Icarus, still bereaved was met with a raw dose of reality: he was bereft of the gifts of his previous life and left in a strange land where the past didn't matter and where he knew no one. Even the language was strange and despite his relative intelligence it took him some time to attain fluency. The children he went to school with regarded him as an exotic figure at best, and a fragile and shy boy to be pushed around at worst (the puns about "flying too close to the sun" were quite popular). As he grew, his looks afforded him some popularity and by extension some comfort from the opposite sex, and his growing strength, nurtured with frequent exercise, gave him a means to defend himself.

No matter how much he might have adapted to his new reality and how much confidence and strength he might have gained, though, things took a turn for the worst. As Icarus went through his second year of high school, it was found out that his father had not abandoned his criminal activities upon arriving in the United States. Under the weight of overwhelming evidence, he was arrested and imprisoned for various crimes. Rumors in high school spread fast, and being known as the son of a convicted criminal didn't do the boy any favors, but that was the least of his concerns. With his mother dead and his father behind bars, Icarus felt lost, and though he knew that, on some level, their fate (or at least his father's) was fair, he could feel a budding rage inside of him. With no clear target and no way to relieve himself of it, however, Icarus carries out his daily routine as usual, retreating further and further into himself.
Powers:
  • [Fulgurconstruction]: Icarus' main power is the ability to turn electricity into solid constructs that can then be manipulated at will. He can extract electricity for this purpose and control his constructs within a given radius around him, though obviously the closer he is, the finer the control will be.
  • [Lightning Immunity]: As a side effect of the above power, Icarus cannot be harmed by electricity; instead, any that comes in contact with him automatically becomes energy that he can fashion into constructs and control at will.
  • [Electroperception]: Icarus has the ability to perceive electrical currents and impulses nearby, allowing him to detect nearby power sources, electronic artifacts and even people, though in the last case, the signals are faint and thus easy to miss unless he pays attention. He can also perceive the limits of his sphere of influence.
  • [Charged Physical Condition]: Along with his other abilities, Icarus has a physical condition above that of other human beings, manifesting primarily in an increase in his regeneration, speed and agility, as well as short bursts of strength and even greater speed. His condition improves further when the electricity in his command increases (or in other words, when he has more/bigger constructs).

Limitations:
  • The radius within which Icarus can absorb and manipulate electricity is relatively small, so the location can greatly affect his fighting ability.
  • While functionally unlimited in his ability to create constructs, maintaining and controlling them costs Icarus concentration and stamina, meaning he cannot make too many or too large constructs, lest he lose control over them.
  • He cannot absorb or fashion constructs out of the electrical impulses of living beings.
  • If using his main ability, it becomes very hard for him to use his electroperception to any practical effect, as his constructs tend to overshadow any other signals nearby.

Weaknesses:
  • [Water]: While it will not harm him directly, water can dissipate Icarus' constructs and render him unable to create more if he is drenched. Due to this, being drenched will also nullify any improvements to his physical condition that result from having constructs around him.
  • [Human Body]: One of the things Icarus does not possess is an increased physical durability, so he is largely vulnerable to the same things as any other human being.
  • [Overload]: Massive spikes of electricity in his vicinity, such as a lightning strike nearby, can overload his senses and leave him stunned and disoriented for a bit.

Likes: Diluvian food, cute girls, board games, crafting trinkets, reading, quietness.
Dislikes: Most American food, guns, bullies, water, meeting new people, people who insult his parents.

Additional Information-
Birthday: September 5th
Theme song:
Favorite food: Meat skewers.
Greatest fear: Letting his life waste away.

I have loads of fuel for characters. Which idea is the best of them all?

  • Cecil is a disillusioned ex-cultist with the ability to see the best of all possible futures. As a result, he has precognition and visions of the perfect world, though the former is fairly inaccurate. Despite knowing that this perfect world does not include him, Cecil aspired towards its existence, anyways -- that's why he joined Young Bloods and became a superhero, purging the land of the unclean.
    spacing
  • Amaryllis is a happy-go-lucky college dropout who accidentally summoned the devil while making a ham sandwich. Some might call her lucky, but this isn't anything special -- it's just how she is! She rented her soul in exchange for superpowers, and as a result, she can animate objects and turn them into golems. Her diet is unhealthy and her exercise is infrequent, which doesn't help her physical condition -- who needs to walk when you have giant monsters to carry you around? Amaryllis isn't a huge fan of the "save-people-without-getting-any-reward" shtick, so she decided to make her own reward by mugging the villains that she vanquished.
    more spacing
  • Noelani is the ghost of a (former?) superhero who currently haunts an apartment building. Invisible and intangible, physically incapable of leaving the apartment on her own, she still manages to carry on saving the world by possessing household objects and tossing them out the window. There are newspaper headlines on how a talking toaster managed to defeat a giant monster rampaging across the city.

By any chance am I breaking a pre-established canon? I'd hate to write ten pages of application only to realize that I messed up the story entirely.

I think either Cecil or Amaryllis would be best for characters. Noelani doesn't seem to have much mobility, despite her ability to possess household items, so you might have issues RPing as her at times.

I'm concerned about Cecil's power being balanced though, I know you mention it's inaccurate but premonition is always iffy. No real qualms regarding Amaryllis except maybe mentioning that she summoned a random powerful demon instead of the capital D Devil.
