The Third Hymerian War
IC (Will be up soon) | OOC (You are here)

First Hymerian War - In 790 B.C, King Gerold I went to war with clans in the north. He had been trying for years to convince the northern clans to merge. They however, denied and Gerold went to war. He gained support from lords all over, 97,500 levies, pikeman, archers, knights, etc marched towards the north. Due to no official leader in the north, but false kings and petty lords, it would take a while for them to rally. Soon, when the Hymerian army was close they elected their first northern ruler, Alexander Rambart, he took what was mustered up (15,000-25,000) and met King Gerold at Atantra. The battle lasted 5 hours, the northern army lost 12,000 due to their bad positioning, insufficient ration amount, primitive weaponry, and primitive clothing. Hymeria lost 18,000 but only due to the harsh cold that they were not used to. Alexander was removed and John Roswin was elected, he planned a "grand" offensive and prepared to attack.

Second Hymerian War -
John had his domains split into militaristic clans (2,000-5,000 in each). He believed this multi-way attack would confuse Hymeria's army and then encircle them for the final blow.
His clans marched attacking from different directions, Gerold, now 54, was determined to lead Hymeria into another victory. He figured out John's plan and had ambush positions all throughout the land that was being invaded. This way, since they are broken up into small clans they can easily be attacked (ambushed) decisively killing the majority before having to lock in combat. Gerold's plan worked a bit, the clans expected something like that since they did it back in the north on small groups such as raiders/outlaws/etc. 22,000 northern soldiers made it to Ravenstern before being halted by loyalist and armed resistance. They were held long enough that soon the royal army arrived and pushed them back across the bridge, onto the paths, into the woods, through towns, and finally finished off at Redstone River. John was killed in battle, so was the emergency northern leader, and the majority of commanders who decided to fight until death, encouraging some soldiers with them. The North decided it was idiotic to be ruled under one person and declared themselves Kings or High Lords.

Brumlen Rebellion- In 845, (Have to keep this short due to post limit) A man named Hendrick Ransen led a 30,000 army host on Brumlen, the imperial guard was deployed and held him off, the battle lasted 4 days, but Hendrick lost due to bad positioning, and lack of rations. His family was gathered up and executed. He and his house were extinguished into history.

The Third Hymerian War- The Kingdom of Swadia in the North decided to start another war against Hymeria, at this point, Gerold was dead and his adopted son, Haeron Hymar was heir but a corrupt regency ruled over, treating Haeron like a peasant. When Haeron finally did take power the economy and military was heavily influenced in corruptness. Swadia took this to their advantage and invaded, they got about as far as Brumlen before loyalist military personnel defended and halted the northern army. Haeron sent messages all over the world pleading for help, Swadia did the same, determined they would get more supporters due to their numbers and possible victory. Now its up to you and your nation to decide what to do.

What is this roleplay?

This is a fantasy RP based in the Early Medieval Ages. It starts at the beginning of Hymeria when Gerold wants full control over the northern clans all the way to present time (850 B.C). During the third war, Hymeria has fallen considerably in power due to the Second War and Brumlen Rebellion. The North splits back into Kingdoms and Clans since they cannot handle being under one ruler. Swadia specifically becomes one of the top kingdoms in the north and takes Hymeria's weakness to their advantage, therefore he invades which leads to the third war and Swadia reaches as far as Brumlen, barely controlling a 1/3 of Hymeria before Haeron's Imperial Guard ambushes and holds off Swadia's army. Haeron sends messages all over the known world asking for support, Swadia eventually does the same. Your nation and who you side with and your actions will determine who wins the third war.

Is there a map? What time period (so I know what kind of weapons)? Do we make up a nation or is there a preset list?

There will not be a map do to having only two main factions, not necessary to have one, if we ever do get one it might not be used. You can put a link to an area on a map that would be the size of your nation and ill refer to that.

NATION APP:

NS Name: Arvanon and Vortes
Nation Name: The Valtari Principality
Ruler: Theron Maghne IV Viltus
Type of Government: Elective Principality
Explain Government:
The Valtari Government revolves around the office of Prince (sg: Theron, pl: Theronné), short for Principal Ruler (Therta Sorson). They are elected from the many landed nobles in the Principality, and the capital (and seat of government in the whole principality) thus changes with each successive ruler. This means that very often the seat of power in the whole principality can be a small hovel or village in the centre of the nation, and thus the entire nation has a fairly evenly spread population density. The Prince's job is to organise the lords under him into a nation, uniting them in law and tradition, as well as to dictate foreign policy in times of war. Under him are many independent lords (sg: Sorson, pl: Sorsonné) who rule their individual demesne underneath the Prince. A demesne can be as large as a city or as small as a village, and a new Sorson title is created if a freeman were to found an independent village. From the ranks of the Sorsonné, the Theron is elected.
Culture:
The Valtari are fiercely independent, and all who doubt their independence usually face the wrong end of a spear. They value unity also, and while any Sorson may secede at any time, they generally do not, and it has been decades since any Sorson has seceded. This also means that there is no real need to tighten the laws of the country to prevent secession. Valtari are not big drinkers or partygoers, and most value duty, honour and loyalty, which also means that they make excellent, cohesive units of soldiers. Valtari boys and girls often learn to use a spear when they are very young, meaning that many can hold their own with a spear in single combat as well as when part of a spear wall. Valtari consider women as important as men, but while men fight in the national army (known as the Valcárn) women tend to fight in the smaller defensive armies of each Sorson and locality. Women are often farmers and home defenders, and save for the distinction between national and local military forces, can generally do any job that a man does.
Religion:
The Valtari religion is called the Natarin faith, with adherents known as Natarene. It revolves around ancestor worship, with three basic levels of godhood. The first level is Hégon, who are usually only worshipped by the family to whom they belonged. The Hégon are those who made little difference in their lives, though are often remembered fondly. The second level are the Marton, who are worshipped in communities or social groups. The Marton usually made much more difference than the Hégon, but not on a massive level. Many of the former Theronné are also Martonné, but also community leaders, most Sorsonné, some priests, and even some freemen who made a notable difference. Finally there are the the Fáyon, otherwise known as the Great Ones. These are worshipped as deity figures, and are prayed to by most (or all) Natarenes. These are generally those who made a massive difference in their lives. Many Theronné are Fáyonné also, but also some Sorsonné. One has to have done some pretty major things and touched a lot of lives to be a Fáyon, and it is rare for a complete lowborn to be one. The Natarin faith values loyalty, duty, good will, influential behaviour and kindness. They believe that Hégonné spend eternity in a fairly mediocre but altogether manageable afterlife, the Martonné in a much more luxurious afterlife, and the Fáyonné get to rule over all afterlives. One common insult (and one of the worst in the faith) is "Huy sala'at jól", or "I will not remember you".
Sigil:
Image
Seat: (I assume this is capital) Harges (a small city in the centre of the nation)
National Pastime: Spear-based martial arts, Hánki (kind of like hockey, except played with long rods instead of hockey sticks and a ball instead of a puck, and it's played on fields, often between two villages.)
Military Strength: Advantage in spearmen, pikemen and lancers.
Army: 17,000 men
Navy: Negligible.
Footman Uniforms:
Valtari Pikemen:
Chainmail armour, with a red surcoat with the sigil of the Principality over it. Usually wear a light leather or leather and iron helmet. Often wear boots that can dig into the ground, and carry a specially designed reinforced sash that can be used to strengthen one's grip on a pike in preparation for a horse to charge into it. They carry long pikes.

Valtari Spearmen:
A surcoat over a light tunic, light leather boots, and a light leather helmet. The design of the Valtari Spearmen uniform is geared towards fast and free movement. They carry spears that are generally used for sparring.

Valtari Spear Sergeants:
Plate armour with the sigil of the Valtari principality painted onto it. Reinforced iron helmet with grooves in it to take a sword out of one's hands if they attempt to attack the head. Carry an iron-bound spear which is much stronger than a regular spear.

Valtari Gladiators:
'Gladiators' here refers to those who fight with glaives. Similar to the light spearmen, these have a surcoat over a tunic with light armour geared towards free movement being a major concern.

Valtari Shieldmen:
Chainmail armour, with a red surcoat with the sigil of the Principality over it. Usually wear a iron helmet and leather boots. Carry a large, round shield with the sigil of the Principality on its front. Also carry both long and short spears, the short ones able to be used as javelins, while the long ones are used as regular melée spears.
Cavalry Uniforms:
Valtari Lancers:
Chainmail armour, with a red surcoat with the sigil of the Principality over it. Usually wear a iron helmet and leather boots. Carry a small cavalry shield and have spurs on the back of the boots. They carry long lances, reinforced with iron.

Valtari Heavy Lancers:
Plate armour with the sigil of the Valtari principality painted onto it. Reinforced iron helmet. Carry a small cavalry shield and have spurs on the back of the boots. They carry long lances, reinforced with iron.
GDP: No idea of the currency of this world, so I'll just say that it's about average and/or middling.
Allies: None
Foes: None
Supporting?
Swadia [ ]
Hymeria [ ]
Other [x]
The Valtari will remain independent of any conflict until they see reason in joining any side. What is certain, however, is that whomever swings the Valtari to join their side will gain quite an impressive ally.

List any other Excessive Characters(Commanders, Family, etc) that you will play as:
Character Name: Theron Maghne IV Viltus
Age: 37
D.O.B: (Honestly confused by the date system. What does B.C. stand for in this situation, as if it is "Before" anything, then I think the calculations in the OP are a bit off.
Birthplace: Harges
Weapons(If any): Glaive
Items(If any): Prince's Crown
Affiliation: Valtari
Titles: Theron of the Valtari, Sorson of Harges
History:
Born in Harges after the end of the Second Hymerian war in his father's Sorsonáa, Maghne Viltus was a young lad when his mother died. She had bestowed upon him her personal glaive, which Maghne used to train. His father taught him about ruling, and he became a competent diplomat. By the time he reached adulthood, his father had fallen gravely ill with a terminal illness unknown to the Valtari. When he was 19, his father died, and Maghne took over his father's Sorsonáa. As Sorson, Maghne made numerous allies and friends amongst the Sorsonné, and when the previous prince died, he was elected to the office of Prince as one of the most popular candidates for the position. As Prince, he has currently done little, but his career is set to take a turn with the onset of the Third Hymerian War, which he can see on the horizon.
Comments: (more character apps coming)
History:
Since the dawn of recorded time, the Valtari have existed in some form or another. Thousands of years ago, they lived as disparate clans and Sorsonáaté, each warring for their own chunk of land within the Valtari region. They showed an early aptitude for polearms, and many of the Valtari began raising armies of defence forces to defend their own land. As more and more settlements were founded, each with a Sorson ruling them, the distinction between the Sorsonáaté became blurred. Without even an intentional push for unity, the Valtari began to agree, first in small groups but then in droves, that unity between the Sorsonáaté was the best policy. Without much prompting, the Valtari began to elect Principal Rulers, or Theronné, to rule over the Sorsonné of the Valtari.

The first Theron to be elected was named Fayote, and he initially proposed a hereditary Principality (Theronáa). However, this caused the First Valtari Concordat, which was a political alliance that had one aim - to enact an elective system in the new Principality. The Concordat drafted what was to become the first founding document of the Valtari, known as the Bronze Treaty. The Bronze Treaty is still kept safe today, written in ancient Valtari script on Bronze, which was their major form of writing. A crown is handed between Theronné as they succeed to the throne, but the Bronze Treaty is the real founding document which is the basis for all Valtari power. Wherever the Bronze Treaty is kept, power is assured.

In the years after the signing of the Bronze Treaty, the Valtari had many successive rulers. During most of their existence as a unified nation, they have maintained a policy of armed neutrality. Their rolling fields would be easy to invade, so the Valtari allowed women to serve in local militias and have increased rights in order to make invasion much harder. The Valtari have been at peace for many years. This, however, could change.

RP Example: Linky
Comments: The excitement is real! Also, I'm pretty good at making maps, so if you want one...
