SAURIA: OF CIVILITY AND AMBITION
Image

Sauria is a planet of jungles, deserts, plains, and isolated seas inhabited by dinosaur like bipeds. It's united by an Imperial government that has governed since the 8410th year of Saurian history. Due to this unity they experienced a global era of prosperity following unification, and it was private- rather then government funded parties- that made the first leap into space. Over time the planet has been cooling, volcanic activity diminishing yet leaving the thick skies overhead. The threat of Global Cooling, and the projected diminished viability of Geothermal power in association with the growth rate of a united world has finally lent to a true drive to expand into the stars and settled the cosmos.

For this the Empire has targeted a planet in it's solar system that is experiencing an increase in temperature and features a diverse terrain, the natives call it- Earth.

-----

Sauria is an RP that while starting on Sauria, sometime before the invasion of Earth is to begin, will move to Earth in time.

PART ONE which takes place on Sauria is designed to establish the player characters, and has the objective of forming two distinct groups - the majority, which will be imperialist who are for colonization; and another group, a minority, that would prefer a relationship of trade and treaty of migration. These two groups will both eventually make it to Earth, with the minority, thanks to the largely private nature of space travel on the planet, reaching Earth first and being granted first contact as they so please. The majority will then follow.

PART TWO will involve a conflict which will have profound impact on the future of Earth and Sauria.

THE MODERN WORLD
Suaria is technologically speaking more advanced then Earth though socially it differs. While diverse in species all Saurians are biologically compatible in the reproductive sense, creating at times such oddities as 'sharp toothed longnecks' or 'toothed duck bills' as Humans will probably call such beings. All are known simply as Saurian due to the unification, and distinction between species has largely faded save in regards to Avian, Aquatic, and Land dwelling.

Aesthetically buildings, clothing, and so forth of the civilian nature are a blend of what we'd call 'bedrock classic' and 'Early 90s'.

The concept of democracy never developed on Sauria, and thus the idea is foreign to them. The population tend towards authoritarian notions, but not to the totalitarian degree. Citizens have a great deal of individual liberties but no say in the autocratic imperial government. The only industry that is oppressively regulated is media, which must be of an educational nature- comedy, romance, etc- all must fit into some historical or educational narrative by law. Books and other written documents where for a time unaffected but the Empire has expanded regulation to such. Thus everything in media has an air of truth, though at the cost of creative liberty with most citizens confident in the truth of everything they hear, see, and read.

Hatchling Programming (what we'd call Child Media) is largely excempt so long as the content is educational.

Saurian Culture
The Empire
  • The Grand Rex goes by no name, only title. When one becomes the Grand Rex they (figuratively) transform into a new being that serves as the collective head of the nation. Having been endowed with the spirit of the world at Mount Jur in the Tyrion heartland. One never refers to the Grand Rex by their former name, only as 'the Grand Rex' or 'My Rex'. To refer to the Grand Rex by the name they carried before coronation is to imply that the Grand Rex has not been given the spirit of the world.

Universally Celebrated Events
  • Hatchling Day - As Saurians are hatched rather then born they celebrate one's day of hatching.
  • Unification Day - This day marks the Tyrion Empire's conquest of Sauria, and the dawn of a united people. This event occurred in the 8410th year of Saurian History at the conclusion of their Third World War and was followed by an era that we would associate as resembling Earth's 1920s. A time Saurians refer to as 'The Golden Dawn'.

Tag. It would certainly be interesting to RP an Earth politician's perspective on this all.

Agreed!

I do wonder, now that you mention it, how an Earth politician would react to this. Sauria, as some bonus information, is in reverse Earth orbit (thus always hidden from Earth by the Sun.

However, in the real world, NASA did send a probe to see if their was another planet behind the sun, and it found nothing- you do have me wondering if the Earth of this RP is aware of Sauria, oblivious, or if such knowledge is known by only a few who have yet to know more then it's presence. As in they are aware of such a planet, but not it's people or culture only that intelligent life is present. You've got my mind wondering such things, perhaps the Tyrion Empire has also began asking these questions in preparation for the invasion. Do the Earth people know about us, for we know about them, and their language? Is it not in turn possible for such knowledge to be known by them?

Perhaps the Tyrion Empire considered such for a time but brushed the Earth people off as too 'technologically primitive' to have such knowledge (despite the Earth not being that far behind them, and in fact more advanced in some areas- for as stated most of Sauria would remind Earth people of the Early 90s despite Sauria being more advanced in regards to space travel, and perhaps in other areas.

I'm curious to see what characters the players will make to populate Sauria, and what will become of this situation. Also I'm happy to see such a thought from you. I'd love to see discussion on the topic- perhaps on the IC so we don't burn our selves out on it OOC (as such would be limiting to our characters).

Heck, by 1990 or so Earth has probably tried to land a probe on it.

You are right. This does even the field between the two worlds. It's possible that one such probe did reach Sauria and was a source of information on the planet- likely having been a message of some kind that took some time to translate- thus how Saurians know the planet's native name; Earth.

This would open the prospect of peaceful relations, and provide political fuel for the faction wanting trade and migration between the two worlds.

It's possible that some private space agencies on Sauria have already attempted to send messages to Earth. As trade would generate profit for such an agency.

Edit: We can't forget radio either. If a probe got close enough it could pick up transmissions from the other planet.

I think it would be best to make Sauria an extrasolar planet, and have travel take place through some kind of a portal.

Sauria's more advanced and developed than Earth, but building and maintaining those portals would be expensive, sharply limiting the size of the Saurian invasion force and thus giving Earth a chance. It also means that Earth can't nuclear-briefcase Sauria into oblivion.

You do have a point- I chose the date of unification carefully, having combined the BC and AD years of our calender to get a date that roubly corresponds to our own 1910s. Thus with a united planet the development of missiles like those on Earth never came to pass- perhaps hand grenades of a nuclear sorts where conceptualized early in Saurian history (as they where on Earth) but never came into production. In regards to ballistic missiles Sauria would be behind, though rocketry had been a science on Earth even before it was weaponized. (what I mean is that they probably have a very primative defense against such attacks or none at all)

I can see Sauria, where it extra-solar and the only planet in it's solar system, utilizing a portal to reach the nearest habitable planet (Earth). As being the only planet it'd have no other worlds in it's system to obtain resources from or terraform- and it's likely that they'd conclude that their very survival depends on leaving the solar system- stay and freeze over, or stay and the sun go nova in a few million years. Portal tech, while risky, would likely seem to them less of a risk then waiting for doom.

However, such a situation would deminish the likely hood of an 'anti-colonial' movement forming. I can imagine people being 'hopeful of trade and migration' between the two worlds, but-

hmm... that would make them a minority as described- but- one that seems rather insane. A bit less understandable. It'd give reason for them to be a minority, but make them seem 'irrational'.

Your thoughts?

Edit: Being the only planet in their solar system would have diminished what the space programs on Suaria could have looked forward to doing; and likely interest in such programs only got big when the threat of extinction was made public, and deniers of global cooling silenced. This would mean that their space programs where fueled by an instinct of survival; making them more aggressive.

While I do see it possible, as in my mind Saurians are decended from terrestrial dinosaurs transplated to Sauria by an unknown force eons ago. Thus in my mind Humans could have been transported in the same manner.

However, for the sake of focus bringing in a third faction would distract from the focus on Earth and Sauria. I while sad to do so (as my favorite sci-fis have humans on other worlds not just Earth thus improving our species chance of survival), must decline allowing such characters in this part.

Saurians (as the various species of Sauria are called). Biped Dinosaur like beings. My intent in starting this is that players play Saurians and then align with either the Imperialist or Anti-Colonial faction. However, it would seem that being human has interested them and thus players will have that option late into Part One (when the Anti-Colonial Faction arrives on Earth) or early in Part Two when the conflict begins.

Indeed, which is why in regards to the invasion force I can see the Saurian's being... out of practice? That they'd execute it similar to putting down a riot as in crowd control and moving barriers- they'd be utilizing 'policing' tactics as it's likely that a standing military was disbanded, and has only recently been reformed out of planetary security forces.

The history of space travel on Sauria would differ from our own with profit likely having been a motivating factor rather then a cold war arms race.

However if Sauria is in a single planet system, telecommunications and monitoring satalites would be paramount in focus for a long time with the understanding that mining and other operations will require interstellar travel. They'd have little information on extra-solar targets but would likely have focused on probes that have taken centuries to return data.

But if Sauria is in our solar system it has much more diversity in regards to local exploitation such as asteroids, Mars, Earth, etc and have a greater sum of information on such options quicker then an extra-solar Sauria as they are local.

I was inquiring on how an extra-solar single planet Sauria could rationally have a group seeking trade- that's kind of like dooming your species. Especially with expensive portal technology, which Earth doesn't possess. How can one rationalize trade and migration under such limiting conditions? In such a situation the planet is utterly doomed and the only option is to find a new home that can house as much of the population as possible in a short time- Earth in this case as their is no need to terraform it or construct air tight structures that would require regular shipments of air.

Edit: One also has to consider that with a single portal the 'Anti-Colonial' faction will have difficulty being the first to arrive to Earth. As such a portal would likely be the location of the massing fleet and take action against trespassing vessels.

Edit: Plus in a single planet system civilian space travel would likely be limited to low orbit craft or perhaps travel between Sauria and moons if any. Moons I suppose would diversify the programs. I guess that answers that question of mine regarding an advanced space program on Sauria.

Does the capitalist system exist on Sauria because I was thinking of creating a character who was in charge of a large trading corporation similar to the East India company.

Economic liberty is strong on Sauria. Media is presently the only industry that is oppressively regulated. This regulation was done in the name of education, and has effectively stifled artistic creativity in such outlets. Historical Fiction is perhaps the most prevalent genre on Sauria in regards to adult entertainment with Hatchling Programing (Child Media) having greater creative liberty and perhaps proving more entertaining. Such would have subjects like good manners, math, biology, etc. Shows on 'How it's made' and 'Science Today' likely exist in prominence as well.

*notice that I've rambled attempting to express that political liberty is none existent but economic and social liberties are broad*

The Capitalist system does exist on Sauria, and I feel a character such as the one you propose will be a welcomed addition to the RP :)

He used this money to attend some of the most prestigious schools throughout the empire where he took a business focused education.

After graduating Xhotol used what was left of his monetary reserve in order to set up a large shipping company know as the Imperial trading company. At first business was rather slow however soon the company was quickly becoming one of the richest in the world with it's influence being felt in nearly every sector of Saurian industry. In this time Xhotol did not start up a family or any kind of personal relationships for as he said in many interviews that the company was all the family he needed however he actually viewed the company as one big middle finger up to his now deceased farther. Now the company is beginning to fail as the global economy is beginning to go into rescission due to the mass global cooling and Xhotol now desperate to save the company turns his eyes towards Earth. Due to this question i'll say no more then four meters. We can observe creatures that got smaller or larger over time on Earth so we'll go with something like that.

So the tallest you can be is 14 feet? Mmk
