Cainesland wrote:Simon spent the late afternoon in his new home watching the rains come down from the sky. While cooler than would be nice, he wasn't wet and the wind wasn't hitting him. After foraging that morning he had eaten another white mushroom and was now left with 4 mushrooms he was storing at home. 2 Green, and 2 Purple. That night he went to sleep to the music of the pouring rain, and the dripping of droplets from wood and stone.

Day 4
Morning
Simon awoke refreshed, but hungry, on his 4th day in this new land. He had been on the equivalent of half rations for 3 days now and he was becoming quite hungry. It was becoming clear after 2 days of foraging in the woods that he wasn't going to find another source of food there except mushrooms, and mushrooms didn't seem capable of sustaining him long term. He considered that since there were no animals, no grains, and no fish the chances of long term survival were low and he should think about moving on. Any direction might be good, but he would need to keep in mind the terrain. He was in a valley and there was a river to the east that might be difficult to cross. He also considered challenges. It appeared that there was someone else in this valley. If it was one of his traveling companions, or a descendant of the people in the abandoned city he wasn't sure. Whomever it was they were small, almost child sized given the size of their feet, and they seemed frantic and possibly criminal. 2 locations were abandoned and that's individual may or may not know anything about why that was. At this point his best guess was war and food prospects.

Simon considered what to do this day however. Should he forage? Should he explore? Should he pack up and move on? He wasn't sure. That morning he inspected his mushrooms for signs of decay once again, and ate one of his mushrooms, in this case a purple one picked on day 2, hoping he wouldn't get sick. He knew what he had, and what he had was too much to carry if he decided to leave. There were tools both useful and recreational, food of the fungal and multicoloured variety, and of course he had his fine clothes. In total he had 8 items line up against the wall he would need to decide on taking or leaving should he move on.

That morning he decided that if wanted to survive long term, tools would be beneficial. While he still had food in his possession he would travel to a quarry and study how to make tools.

Study: Tool-making

That morning he would decide to leave 3 items in his home and travel to the mountain.
Morning Action
Eat Purple Mushroom
Mine unknown mineral

Simon spent his morning climbing and browsing through the hillside, not exactly knowing what he's looking for, but enthusiastic about learning new skills. Several hours later, his enthusiasm has dried up. He only found large boulders of rocks, which he had to mine for smaller pieces... then went on to shape, and carve them into various shapes, but in this endeavor the pickaxe didn't prove to be an efficient tool. The only thing it was really good at is smashing the rocks into smaller pieces, which was also a tedious task. He quickly tired and had no satisfactory results.

Exhausted from the work, sat down near the edge of a cliff, from where his eyes could feast on the beauty of this mysterious landscape, whilst his mouth chews on the purple mushroom he gathered earlier. Simon ate the colorful plant with some awareness of its potential harm. His stomach rumbled after swallowing each bite... He felt a little ill.

A few minutes later, Simon's vision turned blurry, then intensely sharp, and the colors of the world all shifted to shades of purple. The distant hills suddenly felt not so distant anymore, And Simon could feel as if he could touch the skies. Trees danced around in the nearby forests in a beating rhythm, curious patterns appeared amidst the field grass below, and the clouds above morphed into strange beasts, casting dark shadows over the land.

Interesting...

A burst of thoughts and ideas swept through his mind, and he felt himself unstoppable. He stood up and picked up his pickaxe, he then suddenly lost his balance. To avoid falling into the giant pit below him had no choice but to let go of his precious tool and hold onto something solid. The pickaxe fell into the depths and its handle broke in half. Simon now felt despair as he looked down, and then excitement...

With great haste, he rolled the heavy boulders he found earlier on the hill to the cliff and pushed them over, they plummeted down at great speed and shattered into a hundred pieces as they hit the ground. Among the many pieces, Simon could found, long sharp bits that would fit perfectly for an axe. All he needed now was a piece of wood.

Using his heightened sense of vision, he searched through the woods for a sturdy stick, and when he found one, he carved a hole into its top, where he would fit the stones gathered earlier. In the end, he got an almost perfect match.

However, the axe he made was quite crude, and the wood he used was already worn out. It might not last very long.

Purple Mushroom Effects:
-1 Vitae
+1 Damage for all attacks for the current day phase
Double Learning Speed for the current day phase.

Other gains
+2 Stone
+1 Improvised Stone Axe (breaks after 1 use)
Learned Tool Making

Enkidesh

Enkidesh did not know all he did on the first day, but he felt the grasses beneath his sandals, he felt the cool river water upon his sun-calloused skin, and he felt his hands weaving through his hair and beard, moulding them as if cleansing the dust and roughage of the days of wandering. At dawn, he knew, he had been afraid, he had felt the distance behind him in a way he had never before known, but at dusk, as he slept in the deep grasses, he knew nothing of that, not anymore. All was forgotten behind him, all but the grasses, here and there, now and before. He slept a peaceful, dreamless sleep.

He was woken late in the morning by the sun overhead and the braying of the Mouflon herd in the distance. This, he thought as he rose and stretched, would suit him well. Enkidesh had not bothered himself thus far with his fellows, the other wanderers and strangers in the land. All seemed to be, in some way different for each, somehow to disgust the rough, brazen herdsman. They seemed either too fragile or to only be soldierly and brash over a backing of such disdained civility. He would not waste his time with them if it could be avoided, but to be safe, a weapon would be needed, both for his fellows to keep their good sense, and to earn valour under the sky. Besides, something in the depths of his memory taught him to need a weapon, to be prepared for the beasts of the wood and the wild, but he knew not how to craft a weapon for himself. The thought drifted away, as soon as it had come.

By the time the sun's chariot had carried it all the way to the peak of the great sky above him, Enkidesh's rope was sturdy and complete, and his stomach grumbled with aching hunger. The Mouflons, their ruddy fleeces aflame in the glory of the midday sun, called to him as they rushed across the river ford. Their bellows and brays felt to him like home, as if a part of him as integral as the heart beating in his chest. He approached the herding creatures with practised grace, knowing already how to meet the creatures. He was direct in his movements, and not hostile in sight of the group at large, tieing a knotted loop into his rope as he approached behind a mother with her lambs.

He followed her, gently and softly, for a long while, before, late in the day, as she grew tired and rested, away from the clashing rams, he struck, reaching out in a brusque, simple and solid motion to wrap the loop of the rope around her neck, seeing as he dived to do it the milk, meat and fleece that would provide for his life.

Stats begin on day 2

Morning Action of Day 2: Take the Day's rest.
Afternoon Action: Attempt to domesticate, or at least capture a mother Mouflon, in hopes of winning some lambs out of the bargain.

Spotting a mother mouflon was of some difficulty. Surrounded by their offspring, they sticked to the center of the crowd, where they and their children would be most shielded from outside dangers. Even then, from afar, it was hard to tell them from the rest.

The early attempts Enkidesh were futile. He couldn't even get close enough to the herd to throw a spear! The animals seemed to be extremely weary of man, and unusually intelligent... staying clear of all potential dangers.

But not long before dusk, fortune smiled upon the young man... A lone female mouflon left her herd and roamed ever closer to the palm groves. She made an unusual sound, quite, hoarse, desperate. She must have been beeping for quite awhile, and she would not stop doing so in the hours to come. She seemed tired, maybe sick... perhaps she was injured.

It was getting dark.

Then Enkidesh quietly approached her, she payed no attention to him, she simply laid down her head and chewed on the decaying grass of the citrus grove, with tears running down her eyes...
PS: In this world, animals can cry... OKAY? Don't ask any more questions!
Enkedish was now close enough to touch her, but he didn't really have any tools or materials with which to trap the animal. However, it didn't seem intent on leaving the grove for the time being, nor bothered by his continued presence close by. The herd left her behind, and the bushes here offered her some cover from predators.

When butchered, The young female Mouflon offers 2 meat, 1 hide/leather

THE HUNT

With her spear by her side, the huntress silently creeps through the desolate, foggy forest. For hours, she comes across no living creature, and begins to feel lost in the mist... Suddenly, she notices something strange. A slice of green vegetation, filled with warmth and clarity...

Image

In a small and pleasant glade, she spots 2 brown creatures gazing in the ever thinning grass. A large female deer, and by her side, a smaller, younger deer. There is a large tree close by to the deer, offering good cover.

The mother cautiously observes the area while her offspring feasts on the morning grass. Its uncertain if Opal will get another chance like this.

PS: Next time select the forest you want to hunt in. For now I assumed its the south-eastern one.

With the sound of rain hopefully covering her footsteps, Opal creeps up behind the large tree close to the deer. She held her spear upright so as to prevent it from being seen by the deer on the other side. Obviously, the mother had more meat on her, so that’s what Opal was going for.

It was a simple plan, so it’d probably work. Quickly, Opal steps to the side of the tree and hucks her spear at the mother deer, then sprints forward to finish her. With the mother having a spear in her side, she probably wouldn’t be able to run much, if she lives at all. Hopefully the initial spear throw would cause death, but Opal still needed to run in, just to be sure.

The deer jumped up and with a lightning fast reflex, skipped away from the scene upon spotting their attacker, but not before she landed a spear in the mother's back. The trail of blood left behind by the injured deer led opal to the corpse of her prey. The now motherless young son was right beside her. However, he did no stay around, sensing the danger still lurking around.

(+3 Meat, +2 Deer Hide)

Septimus
Septimus woke up early in the morning, of course the great storm raging outside the ruined structure had ment that he had got little sleep but what sleep he did get was invaluable. The ruins that surrounded him were fascinating, they brought back some rather hazy memories of his old life before he had gone down into the tunnels. Another thing that he had noticed was that he was starved which had become quite annoying for Septimus so he began to use the foraging skills that he had acquired so long ago and marched into the lush forests of Jarn's domain looking for something that would satisfy his hunger.

(+3 Meat, +2 Deer Hide)

This was quite the achievement, getting enough meat for 3 people in one hunting trip. This would mean that her two new friends, well, acquaintances, could eat. Far better than fishing, since this gave them deer hide as well as food. The only concern now was getting it all to them, since all this was all far too much to carry, at least in conjunction with her spear and poison. Carrying it one at a time is an option, but other animals could eat what she doesn’t bring. This seemed to be quite a predicament, but with a simple solution. Debra’s still in the same area, so maybe they could come over to the deer corpse instead.

Shouting as loud as possible, Opal announces towards Debra “USSUR! OTHER ONE! GET OVER HERE, I GOT LUNCH!”

Jarn roused himself as the dawn crested the horizon, taking up his spear in the cool pre-dawn hours and treading downwards softly towards the nearby forest that lapped against the base of the Stone Hills. Such a verdant and lush arboreal setting would surely house game, with any luck, and with stealthy footfalls the warrior sought for prey in the thickets and under the eaves of the mighty trees. It was a bit of a risk, true, for the hunt often could come up emptyhanded in his experience, or he could spend fruitless hours under the trees. But a steady diet of fruit flesh alone was slowly leaving leaving him feeling weaker- the fire of his body diminishing. If he had to take a life to sustain his own, so be it.

Morning: Hunt in SE Forest of Seawatch

Creeping through the dense woods, Jarn's ears have caught onto an unusual sound. A deep, ugly, distant voice, not human, rather the voice of some beast, but somehow yet still familiar. Then there was silence... Then he then heard the voices again, this time squealing at a higher pitch, accompanied by the familiar sounds of cracking wood and falling leaves. Something was coming... but he couldn't see exactly what.

He turned around, and then back, frantically trying to find the source of the sound as it was getting ever louder. He pushed aside the nearby bushes to get a better look the surroundings, and it was then when he finally spotted the beasts behind the racket...

Image

A lone wild boar appeared before him, standing before a puddle of mud. As Jarn, now carefully and quietly widened his viewport through the bushes to take aim, he noticed that the boar was facing off a pack of wolves, silently encircling the frightened creature, who was now squealing for help. By the sounds of distant squeals that soon came in response, help was on the way. Stunned by the improbability of the situation...

Jarn begun pondering decide what to do next.

The hunter crouched for a moment, frozen in thought, and then began silently climbing a nearby strong branch that offered a vantage on the noisy conversation. He had no wish to face the wolves on the ground, or change their attention to him by spearing their quarry or attacking the pack. The best course of action, to Jarn's mind, was one of perspicacious inaction. Either the wolves or the boars he could hear in the distant would soon engage the other in combat, and in that moment of chaos he would strike, seeking to pick off an injured member of either party; it wasn't as if simple beasts of the forest would carry off their kill or a slain predator.

He watched, and waited, concealed by the foliage of the tree, but with his spear ready to strike as events unfolded.

Septimus and Jarn

Foraging through the South-Eastern Forest of Seawatch, Septimus found a large field of exotic and rich flora. Some of these plants looked edible, and had a good smell.

+1 Exotic Fruits
+1 Vegetables

As he was happily harvesting these appetizing fruits and vegetables, he suddenly heard some disturbing sounds. Squealing and grunting, followed by increasingly louder hoofbeats and pounding. Looking around, he saw a pack of wild boars, charing straight for him! Septimus had no choice but to run.

The boars chased him into the forest, where he arrived at a small meadow, where another lone boar and a pack of wolves, encircling the meadow awaited him, growling at each other, and at Septimus while approaching one another in a threatening manner. The pack of boars chasing Septimus were but a few seconds away...

The situation seemed indeed dire, and it seemed fighting was inevitable, but as Septimus looked around for a way out, he spotted a familiar face, peeking through the nearby bushes, Jarn.

The sun now high, Accurio awakens. The old man is alive still. After a few moments needed to fully wake he looks to the idol. Somehow the rage of the river didn't consume him the night before. The gods he was exiled for may very well exist and maybe, just maybe this goddess has taken interest in him. He heads to the center of Eden and sets the Idol on a rock. Now kneeling on the ground he begins to attempt to say some prayers in hopes of somehow gaining more knowledge of the divines.

Septimus
Septimus stared at the colliding mass of wolfs and boars as they tore at one another's throats. He stood there paralysed with both fear and incredulity as images ran through his head of him being torn to pieces by the wolfs jaws or impaled by the bore's tusks, all these scenarios were equally unpleasant to Septimus ass seen as he is one of those odd people who would rather live then die gloriously in battle . Out of the corner of his eye he could see Jarn and knew that despite him having that bronze spear knew that it would not be enough to kill all these beasts, so Septimus made a slight notion with his head hopefully indicating Jarn that he was going to run like hell and then legged it.

After managing to escape the fight Septimus was about to eat the vegetables however the exotic fruits just looked so very enticing, so as seen as life is all about variety he began to dig into the exotic fruits.

"Where is this "lunch" you've gotten?" she said as she neared Opal. "Also, my name's Iola."

"Where is this "lunch" you've gotten? Also, my name's Iola."

“It’s venison, Iola, right here. Lemme give you a chunk, it’s free.” Before hearing Iola’s response, Opal had already begun butchering the dead doe. It was fairly awkward to butcher her with a spear that’s meant for much longer ranged cutting. She still managed by holding the handle near the spearhead and cutting through the doe’s side, in the end getting three solid chunks out of her and handing one to Iola.

“Here.” Opal says, forcing a piece of venison into Iola’s hands. Opal started eating a raw piece of venison herself, not caring that it wasn’t cooked and still bloody. This was her first meal in three days, and she didn’t care about how poor quality it was. The meal wasn’t a balanced diet either, having no fruits or vegetables to compliment it, but at least it was somewhat filling. It would feel rude to straight up ask Iola to forage, so Opal decided to instead subtlety pressure her into foraging. Ideally, this would prevent Opal from seeming demanding, but also hopefully getting Iola to get more food.

Casually, Opal says “This is good. Could use some vegetables, though.”

Whelp, that was good enough for the warrior. As Septimus, the man he had sworn to defend, legged it, the warrior was only a few steps behind him. Though not normally one to shy away from a fight, Jarn preferred better odds, and wasn’t a fan of getting mauled to no avail. After retreating a decent distance through the woods, far enough that he thought it likely none of the creatures would bother him, Jarn resumed attempting to find other prey.

He would have to remember to go back and inspect the site of the battle later. Even fresh carrion was better than starvation.

Action: Continue hunting
