Just because crops are from the New World doesn't mean they can't appear in Westeros. That logic indicates pumpkin, turkey, corn and pecans shouldn't appear in a "European like fantasy story", and yet all do. I'm sure there are more, as well.
As a few citations
- Corn - Arya III, ACoK, "They roasted the sweetcorn in the husk that night, turning the ears with long forked sticks, and ate it hot right off the cob."
- Pumpkin and Corn - Catelyn VI, AGoT, "Wheat and corn and barley grew high in its fields, and even in Highgarden the pumpkins were no larger nor the fruit any sweeter than here"
- Turkey - Bran V, AGoT, "“I spied a turkey,” Theon said, annoyed by the question."
- Pecans and Squash - Tyrion II, ACoK, " This evening they had supped on oxtail soup, summer greens tossed with pecans, grapes, red fennel, and crumbled cheese, hot crab pie, spiced squash, and quails drowned in butter"

Hmm. Perhaps all the Westerosi need to do to survive Winter better, then, is plant more potatoes for storage.

If you'd like, I can continue to inform you as to what the Crakehalls were going to do in Gulltown.

Very good.

Her argument is that Hardying is not worthy of being married to a princess until he becomes Lord Paramount of the Vale (but Rhaegar plans to boost his claim BY marrying him to Rhaenys, so you see how that goes), that his claim is unlikely to succeed given the Vale lords' animosity to the Iron Throne currently, and that Hardying is a notorious womanizer.

That's the Elia meet-and-greet post up, since I can't imagine a hastily written note would have the entire plot laid out for any old servant to read.
edit: Though I will remark that there was never love between Rhaegar and Elia (apparently that is what a lot of the - sickening to be quite frank - "Elia was in to the Lyanna marriage" shippers like to bring up)
