National history: After Spain won the Portuguese Restoration War (1640-1668), King Carlos's advisers told him to take it lightly on the Portuguese. He agreed, and let the Portuguese have thier own Monarch. So, Iberia is now a Duel-Monarchy (like Austria-Hungary). King Alfonso I of Portugal and King Carlos II expanded thier Empire, taking over most of South America. By the early 1700's, Spain was in Chaos. King Pedro of Portugal sent 300,000 troops in Spain to restore order, but was unsuccessful. The Austrians then declared War on Iberia, and lost its Invasion. Order eventually came to Spain, bringing Prince Philip of France to the Spanish Throne. Over the decades, Iberia prospered (Besides a little mishaps). Real trouble began in 1775 when British colonist in North America were rebelling from King George III of Britain. King Carlos III of Spain decided to declare War on Britain in 1776. After the War, Iberia and France were bankrupt. They had to raise thier taxes by alot. By 1788, France was in turmoil, while Iberia was getting out of bankruptcy. In 1789, the French had enough of thier government. Thus, the French Revolution began.
