As I stated in a previous post, unless there are men defending a flag over there, it is unclaimed. You may say, “we own that side of the island.” However, if there is no one over there to enforce it, then you don’t.

Alaroma, I highly doubt the Chinese would have been that much of a pushover for you. Remember, you aren’t western, you are westernizing. I believe they would have still put up a formidable resistance to you, especially on the ground. Maybe say you suffered more loss of men or resources, or say you took less ports. Also, all of the Chinese tribute states do not go to you. The SE Asian ones become independent and Korea becomes independent.

That works fine. I'll give up Shanghai, say I took notable casualties, also sure on the Tributes. I'll kill them later.
