I was planning to take a spear too anyway :P

For this, you get first dibs on a hunting spot.

Excellent. If you want, we could collaborate to extort the world. I’m planning to forage, so if you hunt we could successfully keep our food supply adequate.

Great idea, I accept, with one caveat: No one else is allowed in our forest. If anyone else dares to enter, we both have to stab them (provided we’re there, of course).

Perhaps we could plot to charge tariffs for stopping by.

Fair enough, I mainly just wanted stabbing for those trying to take our resources.

Certainly; territory means nothing if you won’t defend it.

Absolutely possible, depending on how much food hunting and foraging provides.

Name: Jarn
Gender: Male
Appearance: Weathered and battle-scarred ruddy man, broad and tall and muscled like a professional warrior. Dark brown hair cut short and ragged, emerald eyes eyes above a thick brown beard verging on red. He wears what looks like it might have once been a padded leather vest that would have been inset with metal strips for protection, but is now little better than a ragged jerkin over a decrepit tunic.
Skills: Foraging
Items: Bronze Spear, Mysterious Map
Memories: Once a warrior, as far as Jarn can remember, he vaguely recalls living off of the land after a time of death and blood, never abandoning his spear despite its relative lack of utility.

Name: Cairn
Gender: Male
Appearance: Cairn has the body of a fighter, large and imposing yet still lean enough for him to be nimble. His hair is ragged strands of brown, unkempt and uncut until it reaches his shoulders. He wears a worn piece of leather, covering his things and knees like a tattered old kilt. His eyes were a bit unusual, with the right orbs gleaming of bright blue while the left one is in dark shade of brown.
Skills: Herding
Items: Bronze Spear, Scripture
Memories: Cairn remembers blood. Blood and death and confusion, before he came to the green plains. He remembers a sacred building, maybe a temple or an archive, and he remembers the reeking smell of death that surrounded it. He used to have a job, a duty, but whatever that duty was he had left it behind along with anything he didn't bring to the green plains.

I'm super excited for this, I just have a couple of questions about herding. So, with the herding skill, can you domesticate a herd of animals as a work action? I'm guessing you can herd a domesticated herd between regions and the like, or pasture them? How do you get food from them? or other materials? Just another work action to harvest wool, meat, milk and such? What about cheese and leather and other products like that to be drawn from animals?

Name: Ussur
Gender: Male
Appearance: A thickly built, but hardly imposing man, still in the prime of his youth, with tough, tanned and calloused skin. His head is mantled by a rich mane of black hair in ringlets, falling around his shoulders and mingling with his great beard. His broad frame is full and solid, and his movements give an air of confident solidity, an impression reinforced by the glinting caution of his deep green eyes. He wears a simple tunic of slickened leather, well suited to a life of outdoor work.
Skills: Fishing
Items: Fishing Net, Mysterious Map.
Memories: Ussur remembers the low river wind and the scent of crushed salt in the air, the feeling of the water and the taste of fish scales. He remembers warmth, and then sudden wetness, the feeling of damp hair over his back, and then silence.

He wears a simple tunic and a cloak of sheep's wool, well suited to a life of outdoor work. A horn hangs on a thin belt of leather around his waist, and he holds the haft of a shovel like a walking stick.
Skills: Herding
Items: Bronze Horn, Bronze Shovel.
Memories: Ussur remembers the howling wind of the plains and the hills, the scent of milk and blood and shorn-wool, the crackling of a fire and then a sudden braying, and then silence. He remembers the smell of burning grass, and the howls of a scattering multitude, before arriving in the great green land.

Ah, the process of domestication will depend on the animal in question. It will, in most cases take an action, and also require ropes, wood, seeds, vegetables or meat, maybe a plot of field where they can roam around.

I don't want to ruin the game by explaining all the mechanics. Part of the game is finding out how it works. It also makes it easier on you guys at the start.

Name: Septimus
Gender: male
Appearance: Septimus is a rather old man with balding grey hair and a long beard. He also has pale white skin which couples with his skinny, gangly body. He is also in possession of dark brown eyes so much so that they are almost at the point of being black.
Skills: tool making
Items:Fine cloths and an Ancient scripture
Memories: Septimus believes that he used to be some kind of scholar or priest. He can make out within the foggy remains of his mind, huge temples and religious texts describing all powerful beings which is part of the reason why he picked up the ancient scripture inside of the ruined city for he believed that it would some how give him an insight back into the faith that he lost so long ago.

Hmm. Now, the real challenge is whether I'll starve to death before I can slaughter a sheep or a goat. I suppose I could weave a rope and tie up an animal to slaughter with a shovel in a day or two, so I should be good to go with herding. I may need a hand making the rope if it's a tool making thing, but I think herding is a solid skill to have.

Just to help with planning, (minor) Spoiler alert:
You will find some tasty fruit in your starting area (the green spots) that will be easy to harvest and will cover half your starting diet. However, the trees that provide them will gradually die out for mysterious reasons...

Gender: Male
Appearance: Mid teens, ginger hair, tall, slim build.
Skills: Tool making
Items: Large bag, hammer
Memories: He had a family, some brothers, a mum, maybe a father and sisters too but its hard to remember. He can't remember much about them but he still misses them somehow. He remembers being an apprentice of some kind, it was a good job, he was happy. There seems to be a gap in his memory, he doesn't remember much in the last year or two.

Presumably not, since they’re noob-food.

But I’ll probably try to use Foraging to harvest more for drying and storage.
