They say that heroes are made, not born,
But some of us are different.
Some of us are the opposite.
Some of us were just born to be villains.
Some would tell you that you have a moral obligation to use your gift, if you can call it that, to help the world. Others would say that you're just like anyone else, and that you should look for an ordinary life. But for whatever reason, those aren't the paths that you chose. Somehow, you ended up with the Society. The villains of the world, who believe that the most powerful one percent are worth more than the weaker ninety nine.
The society is made up of some of the most powerful people on Earth, with one goal; to bring the rest of the world to its knees.
What are you looking for? Money? Power? Pleasure? The Society has all of it, and more. And because of your gift, you've been accepted into their ranks... If you can complete your training.

Welcome to Heathens, the first thread in the new and re-branded Academy of Villains series. The first thread was from more than a year ago and most of you won't remember it, but that's perfectly fine. This is a hard reboot and nothing from the original timeline has happened in this thread. The original was a standard academy thread that had a bit more plot and I hope to recapture that with the rebooted series. As you might be able to see from the earlier part of the thread, you'll play as a student at a place known unofficially as the Academy of Villains, which is run by a group called the Society.
You could say that the Society are the super-villains of this world, as they stage high profile crimes and frequently clash with both the authorities and with superheroes, and they run their own academy to search for their next generation of members. Your character has been recruited to that academy, and will live on site. The actual location of the academy is a closely guarded secret, but time zones indicate that it's located somewhere in Central Europe. At the academy, you'll train in both traditional school subjects and combat related ones, and your characters will also improve their control of their powers.
You can generally make any kind of character you want, as long as you pay attention to the few rules about character creation. This RP is also open to different styles of writing, and won't demand long multi paragraph posts. As long as you aren't spamming one liners, you should be fine. The majority of the RP will take place in an open setting that's somewhat like a slice of life thread, but there will also be school related group tasks that you may choose to participate in. These tasks will move the story ahead, and eventually, players should be able to run their own subplots.
S E T T I N G
The academy itself is located in Central Europe, but the exact location is hidden from the students, except for a trusted few who have gained the trust of the staff. Students are allowed to have electronic devices, but the school's computer systems ensure that any location tracking will give inaccurate results. One thing that is known, however, is that the academy is located away from prying eyes, in an area made mostly of forests and country roads. All students live in the Central part of campus, in dorm rooms that house two students each. Students are free to pick their own roommates, with the dorms being co-ed.
All classrooms, and the cafeteria, are on the south end of campus. There are three main buildings here, with two of them being classrooms and the other one being the Auditorium, where school wide events are held. On the east side of campus, there's an airstrip and a garage full of vehicles. This area is restricted for students, but these vehicles are used for transport when certain tasks take students away from the school. Finally, the west side has storage buildings, laboratories, and staff housing. There's also a makeshift hospital there, for when students get injured in training.

There won't be too many rules, at least compared to some RPs, but pay attention to this part. There's info here that you'll need to know while filling our your application.
- Listen to the OP and Co-OPs. If they say your character is too powerful for the RP, change them. If they say that a specific subplot doesn't work because it interferes with other elements of the plot, or doesn't set a good precedent for the RP, don't try to do it anyway. You won't win, and really, neither side will win or gain anything from OP vs player conflict. All you'll do is disrupt the flow of the thread, which also hurts your fellow players.
- Site rules are still in effect here. It's an academy RP, sometimes those rules get pushed a little bit, but the line for 'too far' is mod action. Basically, don't do anything that's going to get us in trouble with moderation.
- If your characters are holding up the thread while you're gone, they may be used as temporary NPCs. For example, don't join a training exercise and then disappear for days with no word of when you should be able to post. Real life comes first, so it's fine to need time off, but please inform the rest of us if you won't be here. This will also prevent your character from being moved around for you like an NPC in certain scenarios.
- There's no lengthy posting requirement, but avoid one liners and avoid weird formatting(bright text, picspam, etc). When it comes to post length, aim for quality over quantity. As in, it's better to have a good short post than a post that's long just for the sake of being long.
- Overpowered characters are liable to not be accepted. The definition of overpowered varies, but generally applies to characters that are badly balanced. Make sure that if your character is really good at something, you have some kind of practical weakness to balance them. Also, be sure that the weakness actually improves balance. For example, don't claim to be the best swordsman in the world and then have the character feel sad or socially awkward sometimes as a weakness. It might be a character flaw, sure, but that doesn't practically affect them at all in something like combat or training.
- On that subject, avoid Mary Sue type characters. This rule isn't as strictly enforced, but most other players don't like a character with a perfect personality that never feels challenged.
- While this is an open world RP, ask the OP/Co-OPs before doing things that change the school itself, or before controlling the staff and NPCs. This would include something like building new things on campus, or taking out a building in a fight.

This is the application to join the RP. While filling it out, delete all of the (parenthesis), and the text inside them. Failure to do so will result in your application being rejected. Also, note that the rank section should be filled in as Bronze, unless you have specific permission from a member of the thread staff to use Silver or Gold as your rank. The school only has these three ranks, and ranks are gained through experience and excelling at certain tasks. Promotions will happen throughout the IC, so don't worry about starting at Bronze.
