I've run her through basically every system I could. I get all my stats from a program named SpringSharp, which is how I got my complement number. I can even tell you that her maximum fuel bunker weight is approximately 79500 tons.

There is another thing, the 3 other battleships I can find seems to be like Katrin, heavy, slow, siege warships meant to go slow and level islands.

And I made Monty to be a cruiser ship, one to get out and stretch his legs to see the world...and nuke it to hell with Tungsten cored 16 inch shells.

I might also mount nuclear shells on him at some point.

With stuff like these ships, Monty would end up being a battlecruiser rather than a battleship because it'd lack size to mount adequate armor.

I see what you mean.

I should go back and change that AP round to the W23 shell. A full salvo from Katrin is a small nuke, right? Monty can fire 12 of them in a single broadside.

While it'd make sense, I think there would be nuke-based vessels if we decided to allow those, and you know how bad that is.

How, we had Nuclear shells long before the first Nuclear powered ships. All it really is a small warhead primed from a impact fuse, small thing really. Its just that there is 12 of them, launched form 30 mile range minimum.

Would use it for when we find that one base that flat out refuses to die.

Good morning, people, wonderful to see so many people taking interest!

Name: Gigant
Type: Battleship
Class: Integrity class
Role: Bombardment ship
Nation of origin: Mechanikopolian emipre
Year commissioned: 1907
Image or description of the ship girl/boy: 6 feet tall, black hair, brown eyes.
Gender: male
Character: He is a pretty nice guy, though he tends to appear to have split personality due to his past as a commercial freighter before being refit into a more aggressive battleship.
Special abilities: can speak multiple languages and accents, thanks to his past in cargo hauling.
Technical Description of the vessel: The Gigant (german for Titan) was formerly a cargo hauler that ran loads all around the European coast, even as far as Canada. However, when tensions started to increase internationally, a "boat draft" was started and Gigant was one of twenty ships chosen. He was refit into a battleship, with his cargo holds turned into ammo and coal bunkers. He was deployed to the IOO (yes I'm going with this outpost again) to fend of any shoguntae fleets, however, when the relation between the two empires warmed up, the outpost was abandoned and Gigant moved to a blockade in the mediterannian. After the Colonial wars were over, he was put into reserve, waiting to be deployed again. He was continually taken out and put back in and is now more of a Artillery-support ship, covering the smaller ships that were in past engagements with him when he was still, ya know, a ship. Now, he is mainly a training ship. Helping newbie battleship captains learn their stuff.
Technical Data
Displacement: 15,000
Length (overall): 500 feet (sorry if this isn't proportionate in advance)
Width: 100 feet
Draught: 29 feet
Propulsion: 3 screw driven propellors powered by 2 steam engines.
Speed: max he can move 19 knots, cruising is fifteen knots.
Complement: 3,100 crew
Armament:
4 fourteen inch guns, four lighter 13 inch guns for shorter range, and a lot of 20mm AA guns
Armour:
15 inches on the sides
4 on the ends
13 inches on the bulkheads
Notes:Due to the long range guns, he tends to broadside from a distance.

OOC-section:
RP-sample: same as in the failed sub app
Have you read and understood the rules? Anchors Aweigh!!!

Is this good? (edited once, thanks for pointing out problems Rustyal)

It's good and accepted. Glad to have such a distinguished battleship with us!
(And thank you, Rustyal.)

Name: LNS Coriolanus
Type: Superheavy battleship
Class: Coriolanus- class battleship
Role: Designed to engage numerous enemy capital ships at a time and succeed, as well as a capability for fire support of ground targets.
Nation of origin: Imperial Provinces of Legatia
Year commissioned: 1938
Image or description of the ship girl/boy: Album (contains mildly nsfw)
Gender: Female
Character: Coriolanus is the pride battleship of the Legatian Imperial Navy and was built with painstaking care and perfection that ramped her costs up significantly. She holds herself dutifully and properly, but maintains a rather motherly aura and extends kindness to everyone in her sphere. Compassionate yet practical, she bars little against enemy combatants. She attempts to be as professional as possible, but avoids being prude so as to make herself more welcome amongst others.

Commissioned in 1938 as a the first of three sister ships, Coriolanus remained in port for over 2 years, serving as a floating barracks for higher-level officers who came to her naval base due to fears of her being sunk in a pre-emptive strike in the war to come. In 1940, the Great War broke out, and she was moved to sortie at last. Forming the spearhead of the Western Fleet along with battleships Attianus and Juvenus, she defended the overexposed Western Front up to and until the decisive battle of Gevalata, where Coriolanus participated in a still-legendary duel for thirteen hours between herself and the enemy battleship Maetan, receiving heavy damage but detonating the magazine stores of the Maetan and sinking it. Coriolanus quickly surpassed other naval legends for this incredible, song-worthy feat, and fought well until the end of the war. Her guns sat watch over the harbor of Lastka when the surrender was signed.

Coriolanus was next deployed to the waters of Nindegaan, where it sat with a small support fleet overseeing a peacekeeping effort in the country. In another famous battle, Coriolanus. severely wounded from torpedoes and aerial attacks, defended itself from attacks for 2 hours before support arrived for her, before extensive repairs and refits took her out of service for 3 years. Coriolanus never saw any major engagements since then, solely smaller fire support engagements, and was put on a "indefinite mothball" status in 2011- where she may be reactivated at any time. She continues to serve her country with government upkeep funding as a destination of learning, as a stay-over location for youth such as scouts, and occasionally as a venue for gathering.

Special abilities:
Technical Description of the vessel: LNS Coriolanus is a battleship designed with the primary focuses of defense and firepower- to dish it out and to take it. It is designed for a primary ship-to-ship combat role, with powerful 18 inch main cannons and an incredibly potent and deadly array of secondary cannons that shred lighter ships that enter to closer range of her. She relies on other ships for air cover and anti-submarine warfare, which are reasons why she had a good deal of success in the Great War when these factors were countered or absent.

These being considered, in proportion, her secondary armament is incredibly potent and especially for even a ship of her size. For her weight class she remains considerably maneuverable, and has a decent endurance though she requires high maintenance.

Role: Command ship, heavy fire support, fleet brawler.
Nation of origin: Imperial Parcia
Year commissioned: 1954
Image or description of the ship girl/boy: He is roughly 6'2, clocking in at a solid 215 in pure muscle mass. He is lightly tanned, hazel green eyes, and shaggy brown hair. https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-stati ... dblbig.jpg
Gender: Male
Character: (Image)
Designed as a trump card to be used during the outbreak of the Parcian-Volkstradi war, he was used, in conjunction with the vast cruiser fleet of Rome, he served as the Imperial navy as a heavy combat vessel. He is most well known for sinking 3 of the 4 of the Volkstradi Battleship squadron from 12 miles outside their gun range, making use of his advanced radar and fire control computer as well as his super heavy AP shot to devastate them in a few salvos.

He suffered extensive damage during the battle of Cairo, we he was caught out of position and ambushed by the Volkstradi cruiser squadron while anchored. While suffering heavily from the oncoming fire, he held his position and covered various Imperial military and civilian assets out of the neutral country. Luckily the cruisers smaller guns were unable to penetrate his impressive armor plating (owing to the Krupp designed plate).

His return fire was able to sink or heavily damage 8 enemy ships. This last stand at Cairo was immortalized across the world as a massive blow to the Volkstrdi war machine. he spent the rest of the war in a dockyard in Rome. His total kill count came to 4 enemy battleships, 6 heavy cruisers, 8 light cruisers, 23 enemy mercantile ships, 12 Enemy destroyers, and 2 submarines (moored in dock) as well as over a hundred enemy aircraft.

The shipgi--I mena ship boy, came it to being when the abyssals made them selves known. As a person, he is rather shy and secretly afraid of living up tot he reputation of the ship he is named after, but it prepared to do what he hast to do. He likes fishing, redheads, and his family's special formula of Moonshine.

Special abilities: Advanced firing computer - The Montgomery, "Monty", makes use of an advanced firing computer, when used in conjunction with its powerful search radar (limited to 45 miles), Monty can make full use of his 31 mile gun range and rain hell down upon his foes with impunity from over the horizon.
"Super AP" - Making use of Steel jacketed, tungsten cored rounds, Monty can fire a few salvos of "Super AP" rounds, capable of shattering the armor plate of most known warships of his time. Rounds are custom forged in Parcia, at the Imperial Arsenal in Rome, and have to be issued as ordered.

Notes:
A few sentences or an article, please.

OOC-section: So yea, basically a Yamato..but better, for reasons. Monty is basically a smaller Yammy. I plan on him sitting in dock most of the time, due to you know, the massive resources needed to field him, but god have mercy onthe fools he aims his guns at.

As for his rig, his forward most and rear most guns (#1 and 4) are held in his hands (similar to Fubuki's) while his #2 and # 3 guns are mounted on his shoulders. His conning tower, radar (both search and fire control) as well as the majority of his secondaries, are on his back.
RP-sample: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=364625

Not accepted due to the following reasons: The second question of the OOC-section is missing, something that could be corrected, but he was commissioned too late. 1950 is the latest time and date. Sorry.

Danceria wrote:How do I radar? How do I ship? I'm stuck on the logistical aspects of my ship, and I'd like my ship being basically an anti-convoy/convoy escort.

If you want a convoy-escort from that time, there's only one direction to go for examples: The Royal Navy. They even had radar. ; )

Well, talk with the ownerdudeman about that.

First: No nuclear vessels or shells. That'd be mean - both to the Abyssals and, more importantly, to poor Caty, who then has even less reasons to be around if everyone of cruiser size could throw nukes at those poor buggers. Sorry.

Novaya Equestria wrote:Are we allowed to make our own ground contingents?

As said, short description and then off we go with fairy mischief!

Regria wrote:So, when exactly can I introduce Brightbell into the fray? First patrol? And would there be any details I'd have to know? (like for instance if I'd have an escort?)

Sorry again for all the questions-- but I'm just curious.

No problem at all. Everyone accepted before Day 1, where we currently are, can just drop by. My recommendation would be, that you start by visiting the restaurant of Himito and Himiko and get her breakfast, that's where most of us currently are.
As for patrols, she is not yet on the schedule, but she can join some of the expeditions and scouting missions. Also, Brightbell is a light cruiser - she doesn't get escorts, she is the escort.

Well, I have a few updates to the rules up in a bit.
Thanks to everyone bringing the corresponding issues to my attention, it will be taken care of.

A Light Cruiser is still a capital ship no?

Or does that only apply to Heavy Cruisers and above?

Well, from what I understood Cruisers were capital ships regardless of the kind, with destroyers being the proper escorts for everything above them in size.

Speaking of Destroyers, due to the lack of them and having three people app as battleships, I'm in the process of making one. Will probably be finished in several hours, since I need sleep.

Cool! I look forward to that lassie - and you are right, we seriously need more destroyers.
As for light cruisers... could one define them as something inbetween? Capable of both being capital ships and escorts? That destroyers, frigates and corvettes are the escorts is out of question, but I wonder...

It's a lad. :p

I suppose, here is what I envisioned the "escort hierarchy" is: (THIS IS MY OPINION.)
  • Battleships and Carriers can be escorted by Heavy Cruisers and Light Cruisers, then supplemented by destroyers. Probably some escort carriers if the flagship is a carrier.
  • Battlecruisers are light cruisers and destroyers.
  • Heavy and light cruisers would be escorted by other light cruisers and destroyers.
  • Destroyers are escorted by other destroyers, maybe smaller fast craft suitable for fleet use.

Then Merchant ships are escorted by the destroyer escorts, frigates, and corvettes and stuff.

It makes sense, that hierarchy, and it was proven during the corrensponding time frame: The Iowas, for all the awesomeness they were, were both there to shell Japanese Islands into oblivion and to escort own carriers, which the Bismarck was accompanied by a heavy cruiser during her only deployment.
But then again, when you have an aircraft carrier, that can literally strike ten times out of range of your BB's guns with its planes, then the whole point gets a bit moot...

I'll keep that in mind, a second room in the destroyer dorms. ; )

Btw, the map of the base is coming along nicely, I just need to make it larger. We'll have a small airfield on base and a larger one further inland. For those wondering, the downed plane due to mechanical failure came from the field on base.

Is this good? (edited once, thanks for pointing out problems Rustyal)

It's good and accepted. Glad to have such a distinguished battleship with us!

As for his rig, his forward most and rear most guns (#1 and 4) are held in his hands (similar to Fubuki's) while his #2 and # 3 guns are mounted on his shoulders. His conning tower, radar (both search and fire control) as well as the majority of his secondaries, are on his back.

Not accepted due to the following reasons: The second question of the OOC-section is missing, something that could be corrected, but he was commissioned too late. 1950 is the latest time and date. Sorry.

If you want a convoy-escort from that time, there's only one direction to go for examples: The Royal Navy. They even had radar. ; )

Alrighty! But we'll need a Fairy app! And another KanColle based RP, this time involving la fairies!

Exactly.

Well, I actually haven't considered that for now, but it will have something to do with the salvage operations: With the ressources gathered there, it should be possible to get something up and running. From there, things will develop within the confines of the tech-frame (so even if your ship was later equipped with cruise missiles, you still won't have them). The precise mechanics will be worked out at a later date, but for now, major remodels will have to wait (a few more AA-guns, for example, are fine, but entirely new superstructure or something, no).
Also, we could use a repair ship for that... *hint, hint, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more, say no more*

Novaya Equestria wrote:Alrighty! But we'll need a Fairy app! And another KanColle based RP, this time involving la fairies!

I wanted to handle the fairies a bit less formal, so if you would direct your attention to the rules-spoiler again, you'll see the corresponding amendment.

I actually don't have much of anything for late PT/MT settings, mostly I would do PMT, FT and FFT stuff. Well I do have a few tabks made I can work with as a basis I think (probably not though since those are high end MT).
Broadside dead ahead!

Rynagria wrote:A Light Cruiser is still a capital ship no?

Or does that only apply to Heavy Cruisers and above?

To add on *really late*... CLs are generally not considered "capital ships", by definition. Heck, said term is generally reserved for ships of battlecruiser tonnage and above. (Deutschland-class cruisers and Alaska-class cruisers are occasionally considered the exceptions... except the Deutschlands are effectively sporting battleship armament ANYWAY - hence the "pocket battleship" moniker, and Alaskas are effectively battlecruisers except for the fact that the USN didn't recognise the classification).

There technically isn't a formal criteria. The Washington Naval Treaty uses one that I think includes battleships, carriers, and battlecruisers. But in general, a good rule of thumb would be:

"These characteristics define a capital ship: if the capital ships are beaten, the navy is beaten. But if the rest of the navy is beaten, the capital ships can still operate.

Another characteristic that defines capital ships is that their main opponent is each other." ~ William S. Lind, "America Can Win", p. 90

Well, Washington did define the upper limit for what is a cruiser in general: 10,000 ton maximum displacement and 8-inch guns. London, however, did define Heavy and Light Cruisers, to quote Wikipedia: "Light cruisers were defined as cruisers having guns of 6.1-inch (155 mm) or smaller, with heavy cruisers defined as cruisers having guns of up to 8-inch (203 mm). In both cases, the ships could not be greater than 10,000 tons." (Source.)
Design and operation practice in the war saw light cruisers as the larger work horses to the small work ponies that were destroyers, frigates and corvettes, which is a good metaphor, if you ask me.
However, the definition of capital ship, that you quoted, is true as well. Without them, the Navy can't fight (effectively).
In short, I'd say, that it depends heavily on doctrine, equipment and a few other factors as to what a light cruiser, heavy cruiser, battlecruiser, cruiser killer and so on is, what it does and how it does it.

I look forward to the cruiser!
