Humanity sailed the oceans since the dawn of time itself and while many braved the waves in their times, only few asked themselves, what lied deep in the abyss, deep below the waves... they were right to fear it. Not too long ago, the naval capabilities of the nations of the world, no matter how strong or weak they were, were tested by a force of monsters from that deep and overcome. Cities, once bustling harbours, were laid to waste by shore bombardments and carrier-strikes.
From the ruins, humanity found their protectors, the spirits of vessels long past having taken form and fighting once again against an enemy - not each other, not for their peoples, but for the whole of humanity. These are the kanmasu, the Ship Girls!

Welcome to Operational Sector Wide Sea - South West!
Our story begins on a small island in an area of the world named the Wide Seas, said island being home of the allied ship girl force responsible for the Operational Sector Wide Sea - South West, OS WS-SW for short. This sector, so far mostly untouched by humanity, houses several installation-type Abyssals, all under the watchful eyes of the allied naval base in the north-west of the sector.
So far, this base attracted little in the ways of attention or ship girls, but with operations in the general area picking up, that is sure to change drastically. So, welcome to the Operational Sector Wide Sea - South West... welcome to paradise or hell!




Hello and welcome a rather special, if I may say so myself, Kantai Collection Roleplay here on NS!
Now, what is Kantai Collection, or KanColle for short? A japanese browser game developed by Kadokawa Games and online since 2013. Centered around the building of squadrons of naval vessels of the WW2-timeframe and sending them onto missions against the aforementioned Abyssals, it is the Admiral's/Player's job to organize and lead this fleet - of moe anthropomorphisms of World War II naval warships. The game features, in usual Japanese fashion, first and foremost the vessels of the IJN, although, as of late, other vessels of the time were added, including a very few allied vessels.

Now, what's supposed to make this RP so special? Simple: Instead of playing Shimakaze, Nagato and however they're all called, you'll play as the moe anthropomorphisms of vessels of your own NS-Nations' history. For me, that would for example mean the light cruiser Rhiannon.
So... who's ready to kick a few rear ends back into the abyss?

(Btw, the thing at the top is a Gosei by Vice Admiral Hajime Matsushita, Chief of the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy. It's quoted in the anime on occassion.)

Map.

The OS WS-SW is one of the eight operational sectors under the command of an Admiral, which will not be elaborated upon. The small base in the north-east of the sector is home to a fleet of ship girls of various origins, deployed by the allied forces of humanity to dislodge the Abyssals in that area and to destroy their base of operations in this sector.
Climate wise, calling this area a tropic paradise is an understatement - the sun is warm, the water azure blue, the waves gentle and although it rains almost every evening, the days are sunny and simply inviting to make it a spot for holidays. With a base, that at times seems like a holiday resort anyways, that impression is not that wrong - equipped with dockyards and supply bunkers, shore artillery installations and two airfields, the base is defended heavily. Several dorm buildings, a headquarters building and a mess make up the core of the shipgirl facilities, with a bath house currently being set up.

The mission of the fleet is to secure the operational sector as a first step and to limit the range of actions of the Abyssal Installations in sectors DN-15 and DN-17. The last operational step is to take out said installations.


Rules
1. General Rules
    No godmodding, metagaming, or other measures, which take the fun out of it. If you have any case, that might violate the rules, bring it to attention here.
    I'm the OP. I'm searching for one or two Co-OPs, though, depending on how many people apply. Nevertheless, my word is final, that of the Co-OPs semi-final.
      Amendment, 2017-09-28: One Co-OP is Rustyal.
    Be nice, at least on this OOC. What you do ICly, though...
    If a ship girl is sunk, it's sunk and gone - and it will affect people.
      Amendment, 2017-10-14: However... there is a chance, that he or she might return as an Abyssal...
      Amendment 2017-11-02: When you decide to return your sunken ships as Abyssals (only if your ships are lost in combat, not if they stumble down the stairs and break their necks), you will start at the bottom of the 'career path' of the Abyssal Class you choose. If there is more then one class within the Type of the vessel you want to reuturn, for example with destroyers, you can pick freely within the destroyers.
      Everything classified as a Boss, either in Ship or Land Base Form, is absolutely off limits.
      When you get your promotion is up to the Abyssal Players, meaning so far only me, your merry OP (on that note, newcomers, we are looking for a few people, who would be willing to play as Abyssals - informal expressions of interest please on this thread, further rules concerning that when we come to it). A little note, the Abyssals are a bit harsher then your home navy can ever be.
      Everything not currently classified as non-Bosses, for example seaplane tenders or destroyer tenders, can either return as Chi-class Torpedo Cruisers or as Wa-Class Transports, on the bottom of the career path as well.
      When sunken as an Abyssal, the shipperson can return as a shipperson, but it will have no experience and lost a substantial piece of her sanity. How that manifests is up to you. They can also try their hand as an Abyssal again, starting from the bottom again with all their equipment lost, but will not loose their sanity.
      If you have one character as an Abyssal, you are not permitted to engage her with your other characters. ICly, due to psychological stress, OOCly, because if you want to write Fanfics, we would be happy to read them and provide constructive criticism, but this is not the place for that.
      Turning an Abyssal around to join our side or turning a shipperson around to join the Abyssals is permitted (under the same rules as engaging them, meaning that you need another player to do that), but he or she will stay in her form and will become a priority target of the other side.
        Example-Time: Rhiannon is sunk, as a light cruiser, I as the player can choose to return her as a Light Cruiser of the Abyssals, either a Ho-class, a He-class, a To-class and a Tsu-class. I decide to return her as a Tsu-class Light Cruiser, so she starts out as a Basic, not an Elite - the Elite Status being a possible promotion for her. I can not return her as a Light Cruiser Princess.
        I can not engage her with my other characters and cause damages, maybe even sink her or others of my characters. I can also not have her defect to the shipperson side by having her convinced by the other characters of mine, but another player can try and turn her around after capturing her. If that is accomplished, she will remain an Abyssal on the Shipperson Side and a priority target of the Abyssals.
      Of course, if you loose one of your characters to death, you can choose to let the shipperson being dead, freeing up one of your character slots.

2. Character Rules
    Maximum number of character: 6. This might be changed in the future.
      Amendment 2017-12-08: The Character Limit is lifted to six (6) characters. Of these six, at least two (2) must be escort vessels and one (1) a support vessel, all of any kind. All other rules concerning characters (including the ban on capital ships (capital ships being defined as Battlecruisers, Battleships, Aircraft Carriers (of any kind) or variations whereof) in the near future) are still in place.
    Allowed characters: Basically any moe anthropomorphism of a warship or ship having served under the flag of your NS-nation's Navy (that includes for example passenger liners serving as troop transports) commissioned during the timeframe of 1900 to 1950. That includes everything from corvette-size up to the mightiest battleships. Smaller craft, like for example landing boats or E-boats, will be piloted by fairies. While female characters are preferred, male characters are not disallowed, as long as they are the spirit of a vessel of that timeframe. Some quirks of its career or construction have to be represented in the character. Try to keep images in accordance with the site-rules, though.
      Amendment, 2017-09-26: No nuclear shells or nuclear powered vessels. Or nuclear torpedoes. Just, nothing nuclear as a general rule.
      Amendment, 2017-10-12: If you wish to edit your accepted app(s), please tell either the OP or the Co-OP about what you want to change here on the OOC and wait for approval of it, BEFORE you update your app. The OP will then modify the acceptance post to include the update app.
    All characters are housed in the dorms on base, battleships and aircraft carriers in two per room, cruisers in four per room and destroyers in six per room. One room is filled up before a new one is opened, encouraging mixing and keeping the list relatively short. A room list will be the follow-up post.
      Amendment, 2017-09-22: Only exception to that being, that boys and girls aren't bunked together, even if they are siblings.
    Concerning the technical description: That's where the fun starts. Put a few sentences about the vessel and its history, when it was still a big vessel of steel, as well as a statblock there. You can go into as much detail as you'd like, but please, keep it appropriate for the timeframe and realistic (no cruise missile VLS or railguns, for example) and state the conditions as built. When you app, please also include a technical description of your add-ons, meaning for example airplanes for aircraft carriers, as well. If you have an amphibious assault vessel, you can also have a landing force, please describe that one as well in a few sentences.
      Amendment, 2017-09-26: Fairy complements, base personell fairies and landing force fairies are permitted to be played by you, but if you have any special equipment for the base personell (planes, guns, etc.) give a short description of it. If you offer said equipment on GE&T, a link to it is perfectly fine as well. I would like to ask, that they speak in their own language (Desu! in the original), but if you want them to speak English, that's fine, too. Upgrades to them will come, when the upgrade system for the ships comes (see below). They must be appropriate for the time frame as well.
      You are very much encouraged to depict their mischief as well, if you want, but all combat operations are to be cleared with me first. And please, keep it reasonable.
    Concerning upgrades: An upgrade system will, for the moment, not be implemented. We'll see about how to organize that when the time comes (definately not before page 10 ; )).
    Concerning the Admiral: Due to the rather exposed position of the Admiral, no one will play him. For the sake of IC-interaction, assume, that he is somewhere else for the whole duration, doing something else. We won't even give him a nationality or anything. Instead, the Base is led by his flagship (or secretary ship, if you prefer), aided by an adjutant and the six type-leaders of the fleet (administrative positions, no real command power) when it comes to daily paperwork and operational planning, namely:
      Flagship: Battleship LNS Coriolanus.
      Adjutant: Carrier Prophet.
      Leader of the Battleships: Superheavy Siege Ship RNV Imperatritsa Ketrin.
      Leader of the Cruisers: Light Cruiser SDFS Rhiannon.
      Leader of the Aircraft Carriers: SPN Fyodor Valkov.
      Leader of the Submarines:
      Leader of the Support Vessels:
      Leader of the Destroyers: IJN/HIJMS Yakaze.
      For now, applications for these positions will be handled on a first-come, first serve basis, we'll later see, how we get them distributed. Also, only one member of this list per player - no exceptions.
    Concerning communication with your vessel's nation of origin: No matter how hard you try, your gals/lads will not be able to contact your homeland. No exceptions.
    Please keep the names of your vessels original - you can imagine, how confusing it will be to have six characters named Dreadnought on base.

3. Combat
    In more or less regular intervals, I'll create events, in which you will only prevail by working together, trusting your flotilla-mates and your leader, but other then that, regular patrols will occur, during which you might encounter the enemy. Despite stats being an integral part of the original game and a technical description being asked for, we'll make this a story-line RP, so stats, while nice, have less meaning.
    Combat between shipgirls: ICly, highly discouraged for hopefully obvious reasons, but if your opponent wants a go, go for it - just make the corresponding arrangements (where, what kind of contests, who wins and why and so on), please.
    Please give one RP-sample, namely a RP, where you interacted with other players (no paragraphs written on the fly!), and write for the question "Have you read and understood the rules?" as an answer: "Ahead flank!" No exceptions.

4. Fairly Fairy Shenanigans (Amendment, 2017-10-14).
    FFS is the spinoff of this RP, outsourcing the shanigans of the fairies, the little helpers of the ship boys and ship girls to a different thread. All interactions between fairies, that don't have any immediate effect on the main plot (for example conversations between fairies for whichever reasons, expeditions into the inner reaches of the island, pranks, training), will take place there. This spinoff will be a lot more light-hearted then the main-IC, though.
    Everyone accepted to the RP is welcome to join, but attendance is not mandatory. Fairies come, for example, from the vessel's crews, ground complements, flight squadrons and base personell.
    The same rules as for the Main-IC apply there.
      Rule Amendment 2017-10-16: Posts about the fairies and their everyday dealings with the world belong into the Shenanigans-Thread. Posts involving combat with the Abyssals or outside forces, as long as they pertain to the overall story, belong on the Main-IC-Thread. If you are unsure about which belongs where, ask.


Important Note: No capital ships (capital ships being defined as Battlecruisers, Battleships, Aircraft Carriers (of any kind) or variations whereof) will be accepted in the near future. It's nothing personal.

    A typical Selkie, laid-back, relaxed, loves dancing and music (and is very much capable of both), confident in herself, but a fierce and strong fighter. Good worker, but gets easily bored by too much paperwork.
Special abilities:
    Due to her later career as a school ship, she's a good teacher - even when teaching with her guns. Good cook.

Notes: Very long service history.
The Rhiannon was the first of the almost legendary six Rhiannon-class Light Cruisers, the first larger vessels built in the Free Lands for the SDF-Navy. With their relatively light armour, high speed and heavy armament, these vessels were fearsome opponents, both to merchant shipping and in fleet combat, as the Lutetiians found out on several occassions. Serving as a patrol vessel, frontline combattant, escort vessel, tender for patrol vessels and school ship up to the later 80s, she had a long service history. Her construction incorparated some of the most modern techniques available at the time, from welded hull construction, making her lighter, and a small weapons suite against airplanes, which was updated during her career.
Nevertheless, she was a good sea boat, but suffered from a bit of lee helm. She was very maneuverable as well. SDFS Rhiannon did not carry an aircraft or a corresponding catapult, but, on occassion, a shore party of the SDF-Army of up to 100 men with their boats.

Character: A perfect model of the exemplary Higher Japanese naval soldier, strict and uptight with a great obedience to the rules, he later became more and more lax as his rank increased, eventually going as far as to go for a more progressive standpoint instead of the olden nationalist mindset.
Special abilities: Following the philosophy that he was built from, his cannons can also double as anti air weapons.
Technical Description of the vessel:
The first ship of the Kakoi class heavy anti air cruiser, this ship was considered a breakthrough in many aspects. Due to the second world war never really happening in our universe, he was used as the basic testing bed for many types of equipment, including arming turrets with 4 barrels. However, during another war which involved a few more rebellions in other countries, he was deployed with his final refit in 1944. From that time on he was generally used as an escort ship, before turning into a training ship, museum ship and eventually back into a training ship.

However, in his earlier days he was plagued with many technical problems which almost ended in him getting scrapped altogether until other ships of this class proved that repairs were manageable.

His design could be compared to one of the Yuubari, an experimental ship. As such, at first he was armed with light armor and fast speed along with powerful engines, and only had 2 dual torpedo launchers along with 4 127 mm cannons. Later on when he was modernized to keep up with the times, his speed was cut down by 5 knots but in exchange had better armaments and a heavier armor belt.

The first ship of the Kakoi class heavy anti air cruiser, this ship was considered a breakthrough in many aspects. Due to the second world war never really happening in our universe, he was used as the basic testing bed for many types of equipment, including arming turrets with 4 barrels. However, during another war which involved a few more rebellions in other countries, he was deployed with his final refit in 1944. From that time on he was generally used as an escort ship, before turning into a training ship, museum ship and eventually back into a training ship.

However, in his earlier days he was plagued with many technical problems which almost ended in him getting scrapped altogether until other ships of this class proved that repairs were manageable.

His design could be compared to one of the Yuubari, an experimental ship. As such, at first he was armed with light armor and fast speed along with powerful engines, and only had 2 dual torpedo launchers along with 4 127 mm cannons. I imagine, that they would have - they're German guns, after all. All in all, the entire vessel would most likely have worked, but when compared to its peers and contemporaries, it would have lacked quite a bit in the actual performance area, as those guns would, essentially, have been useless. There's a reason, why for example the IJN or the RN didn't put such large gun armaments onto their carriers (unless it came to AA-guns, but you know, what I mean).
The major problem of the GZ was, that she was built not as an aircraft carrier, but as an aircraft carrying cruiser, which was supposed to support the own warships in the Atlantic, having its guns for the defense against surface targets and cutting the room for ammunition and the guns themselves out of the room for the aircraft - instead of building a fleet carrier, entirely focussing on the aircraft and letting the escorting vessels and own aircraft handle the surface action.

Yep. Let's just imagine Novaya has 3 10.5cm Twin Gun Mounts instead of the rather large gun armament.

If you want, you can do that, but he'll still stay an AC for 'administrative purposes' - and you could make it a quirk of his, insisting, that he is either, while people call him the other. ; )
Anyway, I'm still searching for people for the flagship's council - would you want to fill the AC-seat?
