President Ouellet stepped out of the National Assembly building, feeling the September air as it gave out a small breeze. A rather large crowd could be seen out in the public plaza, all waiting to hear the president's speech. She stepped up leveling out with her legislative counter-part: Prime Minister Philippe Couillard.
"It has been a little over six months since our victory over the former Canadian government, and eight since our declaration of independence. Yet despite the many hardships we have faced at first, look around you and see how far we have come! Our economy is on the upturn, relations with Europe are rather good, and most importantly: we as a nation... no as a family, are once again prosperous!"
Ouellet looked up as the crowd cheered at her words, knowing the truth in them. In the few months since independence Québec had begun to gain back is former glory. The Québécois government had succeeded slowly bringing tourists back, especially from France whose close ties had helped to bring them into NATO. But, what she was proudest of, was the way Montreal, Ottawa, and Québec City had begun to rebuild. The process had been hard and had taken quite a long time, but the beating hearts of the republic were every week getting closer and closer to full repair. Ouellet snapped out of her thoughts, and turned back to the cheering crowd.
"There is something very special I'd also like to tell all of the citizens of Québec! Very recently parliament and I had decided to invite delegations from both The Northeast Federation and The New Scotland-Acadian Commonwealth to the city of Ottawa. It is there that we will be discussing an alliance that could possibly turn into our very own European Union. Their agreement to our proposition shows how despite our differences and histories, we can all work together of the greater good. It is also at this time that I will inform you of an invitation by the New Republic of California for all North American leaders to attend a state dinner. I have decided to accept this proposition, to help create a greater and more peaceful North America."
She waved for about a minute at the cheering crowd, before walking back into the building. Taking out a laptop, Ouellet began to draft some letters.
