Y'know what, gonna get my app in before anyone can claim Skandinavien Clay. And yes, I did indeed decide to do something different with Scandinavia than I originally intended.

Full Nation Name: The Union of Nordic States (Swedish: Unionen av Nordiska Stater ; Norwegian: Union of Nordiske Stater ; Finnish: Pohjoismaiden Liitto ('Nordic Council') ; Danish: Sammenslutningen af Nordiske Stater ('Association of Nordic States') ) ; Scandinavia/UNS Flag. Australian Colonial Flag. Newfoundland Colonial Flag.
Majority/Official Culture: Scandinavian/Nordic.
Territorial Core: The Purple. Nytfundetjord (Newfoundland) and Australien (Australia) are colonies, but are considered member-states.
Territorial Claim: Rest of Canada/Australia.
Capital City: København (Copenhagen).
Population: Approx. 14 Million (Homeland Scandinavia + Greenland/Iceland); Approx. 17 Million (Homeland Scandinavia, Greenland/Iceland + Colonial).

Government Type: Constitutional Federal Parliamentary Republic.
Government Ideology/Policies: Democratic, pro-integration, semi-expansionist.
Government Focus: The Union focuses primarily on the economy and military.
Head of State: Chancellor Mikael Wolff
Head of Government: See above.
Government Description: While the individual member-states of the Union may have their own constitutions or governments and focuses, the Union is the overall agreed upon government. The Union government is formed primarily by the Parliament of States, the legislative branch of the Union. It passes federal laws that apply to all Union states, as well as overseeing general governance to make sure everyone is treated equally and fairly in accord with the Constitution of the Nordic Union.

The Parliament of States has two houses: the House of Representatives, where many major laws and edicts are passed through and get judged, and the High Council, who reviews laws, gives them the final pass, or makes constitutional amendments which must be passed through the House and approved of by the Chancellor. The Chancellor is an elected member of the High Council, selected by the House, that acts as the de facto and de jure "executive branch" and has supreme executive power. Thus, the Chancellery is the most powerful position in the Union government; at least, executively.

Majority/State Religion: No State Religion; Majority Protestant Christian.
Religious Description: See IRL Protestantism.

Economic Ideologies: Capitalism with mercantile influences.
Major Production: General industrial goods, strong seafood market, gold from South Africa.
Economic Description: Corporations are given mostly free reign, but they still answer to some governmental policy. Colonies are expected to return goods and profits to the Union, but do get their share in time.

Tech Group: European.

Army Description: The Nordic Armed Forces are primarily formed up of well-equipped soldiers with elite training. The NAF has some top-of-the-line weaponry, and generally is looked upon as one of the most well disciplined militaries in Europe. The Nordic Military is better equipped to deal with harsh and colder conditions, due to being from a rather cold environment.
Army Weakness: One failing of the NAF is that while the weapons and training are of higher quality, because of various factors, many officers are corrupt or otherwise have some improper training level that makes them almost unfit for the position. Also, the NAF requires there to be trains and such to deploy easily to places throughout Scandinavia, Greenland and Iceland. Newfoundland has less railroads or transportation, causing a delay in deployment. Places like South Africa and Australia are more autonomous than most colonies owned by European nations, if only because local militaries are better-enabled to deploy than that of the government. They aren't as well equipped for warmer areas, especially the tropics/deserts.
Naval Description: The Union Naval Forces are formed up of extremely well built ships, with decent weaponry and sailors that tend to be well trained and disciplined. The UNF is extremely prevalent in Scandinavia, near and around Greenland or Iceland, and has a presence around Newfoundland. Various divisions or fleets can be found, in lower quantities, near South Africa and Australia. Officers here tend to be more disciplined than in the NAF. Nordic ships are better built for colder seas/dealing with ice and such.
Naval Weakness: Corruption and inept or improperly trained officers, while in lesser numbers, are more common in the UNF presence around South Africa and Australia. The UNF also tends to save its newest, strongest ships for defense of its homeland and more easily accessed territories, meaning ships near South Africa and Australia tend to be somewhat outdated. This, again, makes them a bit more autonomous than normal colonies since they have to put up their own navies in some cases.
Further Military Description: The Nordic Defense Association runs both the NAF and the UNF, and it is primarily controlled by the High Council or Chancellor more directly than the individual branches of military themselves. Usually, the NDA operates almost as a separate branch of government; only united under the High Council/Chancellery. This allows it to respond more quickly if the High Council or Chancellor proves unavailable or otherwise compromised.

National Goals: Integrate colonies further, whether through full state membership or otherwise finding a way to keep hold of them. Perhaps expand colonies slightly.
National Issues: The question of South African and Australian Independence/Membership in the Union; the question of corruption in the NDA and its branches.
National Figures of Interest: Adrian Mikaelsen, a known proponent of the Unionist Movement; a movement that wishes to not only force membership upon the colonies, but expand those colonies further.
National Ambition/Aspirations: Total unity, expansion of colonies.

History: Scandinavia was always a region tense with fear, and yet a strong sense of unity and pride. Fear of Russian expansionism (and later its communist/socialist revolutionary ideals) led to the rather economically conservative and protective stance that Scandinavia faced throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This led to stronger intergovernmental ties among Scandinavian nations, as they wished to ensure their own sovereignty. Minor military alliances were formed, as well as trade agreements and international trade corporations and such.

The Union of Nordic States finds its beginnings at the turn of the nineteenth century, the year 1800. That is when the Union was founded, but more as a treaty and agreement between the various independent Scandinavian/Nordic states to help themselves not only remain independent, but in times of war or otherwise. At this time, the High Council was the only branch of 'government,' and it simply legislated on trade agreements and other economic issues that the Union faced.

However, as time went on, and trade increased understanding and want for unity among the Nordic people, while decreasing the language barrier... that changed. Economic pressures from corporations and military tensions with the Russians forced them to begin considering an expansion of powers for the Union 'government.'

In the year of 1840, the Union of Nordic States proposed something to its various member states - which, because of increasing Scandinavism (pro-unity movements) and ever-increasing economic pressures from various corporate interests, managed to pass nigh-unanimously - and that was the creation of an official federal government. A Constitution was drafted, and eventually accepted by the various member states.

The Parliament of States was formed, primarily the House of Representatives, and the High Council formed the position of the Chancellery. The Nordic Defense Association grew in power and strength as its funding increased, and it became the de facto - and eventually de jure - military of the UNS.

The Union's first major debate was in 1853; the question of whether Newfoundland, and Australia belonged to Denmark, a member-state, or to the Union as a whole for governorship. Eventually, it was decided by the Colonial Bill of 1855 that the Union would govern all colonies of Nordic States, and eventually those colonies would become States themselves if they so wished it.

The Union of Nordic States has been mostly at peace for the last few decades, but it has a strong focus on military because the UNS wishes to not only expand its colonies, but defend itself from any revolutionary forces which would threaten its economic and governmental interests.

The Union of Nordic States stands strong in the year of 1900, and looks to a future in which it is much stronger.

Full Nation Name : The Celtic League (An Conradh Ceilteach)
Majority/Official Culture : The official unifying culture of the League is obviously Celtic, however the League consists of six countries, Éire(Ireland) Alba(Scotland), Cymru(Wales), Dumnonea(Southern England), Mannin(Isle of Mann), and Bryneich(English Midlands) which all heavily promote their own identity and culture as distinct and unique.
Territorial Core : The British Isles, Faroe Islands, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Southern Nigeria, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island
Territorial Claim : Brittany
Capital City : Learpholl (Liverpool)
Population : 56 million
    Homelands(incl. Faeroe Islands): 42,000,000
    Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana: 4,000,000
    Togo, Benin, Southern Nigeria: 7,500,000
New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Isle: 500,000

Government Type : Constitutional Elective Monarchy
Government Ideology/Policies : Nationalism, Militarism, Pan-Celticism, Conservatism
Government Focus : The official mandate of the government is to unify all Celtic peoples under one banner, to ensure the security and prosperity of those people, and to promote and spread the Celtic culture and languages around the world. In reality, the government of the League is more concerned with economic matters, trying to keep its position as a top player on the European stage, and the maintenance of its overseas holdings and colonies.
Head of State : Rí (King) Brian Mac Loingsibh
Head of Government : An Tánaiste Liam O Dochartaigh
Government Description :
The government of the League is a multi-tiered system, which goes all the way down from the Royal Council (Comhairle Ríoga) to a Contae Council (Cuirmtíg).

An Comhairle Ríoga is the monarch’s own cabinet and is considered to be the most senior level of government in the League. It consists of eight members including the monarch, and all members are selected by the monarch from the next level of government, the Assembly of Chiefs (An Tionól na gCeannairí). The members of An Comhairle Ríoga, minus the monarch, are the War Minister, Treasury Minister, Trade Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister, Domestic Affairs Minister, Colonial Affairs Minister, and the Justice Minister. These officials are responsible for the smooth running of their respective offices.

As stated, below An Comhairle Ríoga is An Tionól na gCeannairí, or the Assembly of Chiefs. As the name suggests this assembly is made up of Clann Chiefs, three hundred in total from all six nations of the League. This assembly has the ability to write legislation at a national level, though it requires review by the Comhairle Spioradálta (Spiritual Council), the process of which has largely become symbolical, and must be signed by the monarch in order to pass into law. The Assembly is also responsible for keeping the monarch in check, and may begin a deposition inquiry if they believe they are detrimental to the State, incompetent, or corrupt among other reasons. A full deposition however must also be approved by the Spiritual Council, and four of the six Óeanachaí.

Óeanach is the name given to the devolved assemblies of the six member countries, and they are made up of elected representatives. As the member countries each have a large degree of autonomy, an Óeanach is responsible for healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture, local business and commerce policy, communications and social policy among other things. All legislation passed by an Óeanach must comply with national legislation which has been passed by An Tionól na gCeannairaí. Each Óeanach is headed by a Tiarna, who also have their own Assembly, known as An Tionól na Tiarnaí. This assembly has very little real power, but as you can imagine has a loud voice.

A County Council, known by its old name for a clann council Cuirmtíg, is a local council which has little power, but is responsible for whatever its Óeanach delegates to it. Without exception, they are also the body which elects the Taoiseach(Chief) for the area, sometimes multiple for the one area. Other standard responsibilities include maintenance of local roads, provision of libraries, clinics and schools etc. The members of a Cuirmtíg are elected by the locals of the area.

An Comhairle Spioradálta (Spiritual Council) which was mentioned earlier is a council of bishops and abbots, numbering 22, from all countries of the League. They were a very compelling voice as once upon a time it was the religious leaders of an area which selected the Taoiseah for that area. With the adoption of a new constitution however in 1874 their power was greatly reduced and their position now is largely a symbolic one.

Majority/State Religion : Celtic Christianity, with Catholic and Protestant minorities.
Religious Description :
Celtic Christianity stemmed from the Roman Catholic Church, but made its official split in 1312 at the same time it established the Church of Celts. Celtic Christianity is much more decentralised than the other branches with monasteries and monastic orders still be widely prevalent throughout the member countries of the League. The members of these orders, even the abbots, are not ordained, but are highly respected individuals for their devotion, study, and sacrifice. It is said that abbots are like popes in their own parishes, and it is quite true that they surpass priests and bishops in authority. Priests and bishops are still required however to perform sacraments. The sacraments also differ under the Celtic Church, with a variance on the confession and penance rite, marriage, divorce, and funeral rites also differ, and the sacrament of confirmation is not practised. The dates of Easter are also calculated differently by the Celtic Church, and it tends to be much easier for holy people to be canonised into saints under the Celtic Church than under the Roman.

Economic Ideologies : Capitalism, with some protectionist policies.
Major Production : Foodstuffs and agricultural goods, heavy industry products such as ships, arms and locomotives, light industry goods such as textiles, leathers, luxury and finished goods
Economic Description : The League has a well diversified economy, with a strong agricultural sector which meets the nation’s demand for self-sufficiency in food thanks to land reforms, light protectionist policies, price regulation, and supplements from overseas territories. The industry sector is supported by imports from the colonies also, though it produces a large amount of coal and iron domestically.

Tech Group : European

Army Description : The Army, known simply as An tArm, is a small and professional force of one hundred thousand personnel. This however is supplemented with a reserve force, and a ‘homeland army’ which together total over four-hundred thousand. The well-drilled standing army is trained in modern small-unit tactics, which it developed out of necessity while facing harassment in the colonies. The Army also features certain elite units which undergo advanced training, and are ensured to have access to the most advanced weaponry and equipment available to them. Some of the elite units include the Highland Brigade, the Ulster Brigade, and the Fianna.
Army Weakness : The army has never had a strong cavalry tradition, and struggles to field enough well-trained mounted men to be useful in battle. It also has a weak artillery regiment, with not enough pieces to be adequate for the size of the army. Because the navy receives so much of the military budget, the regulars are sometimes left behind or left waiting a few years to afford new equipment.
Naval Description : The Navy, An Cabhlach, is the pride of the nation. Being an island nation with tens of thousands of kilometers of coastline to patrol, as well as shipping lanes to protect and overseas territories to police and protect, the navy receives a great deal of funding, and is always trying to stay ahead of the curve by researching and adopting new technologies, strategies, and ship designs.
Naval Weakness : The sheer size of the navy means it is a constant struggle to keep it up to date and maintained, and its neverending need to stay on top equates to an essentially bottomless pit to where the government must throw money.
Further Military Description : A more comprehensive list of naval ships will come later, along with a breakdown of army units and divisions and what have you.

National Goals : To secure new trade partners as well as military allies. A source of oil must also be secured.
National Issues : Issues of factionalism within the government, the monarch is usually met with resistance by groups within the Tionól na gCeannairí and at times has to curry favour to get their policy enacted. The decentralised nature of the League also means reforms can be slow reaching to certain areas.
National Figures of Interest :
National Ambition/Aspirations : To be the dominating naval power of the Atlantic, an economic powerhouse, and expand control of the overseas territories. Also to unify all Celtic people under one banner, and spread the culture around the globe.

History :
The Celtic League was formed on August 22nd, 1672, with the signing of the Treaty of Man, binding together four separate entities under one leader and one national legislature. The foundation blocks for the League however stretch back over a millennia, to the fall of Roman Britain.

It is generally agreed that the retreat of the Romans from their Brittania province happened as a direct response to the Visigothic sack of the City in 410 AD. The retreat was quick, and no attempt was made to leave a stable political state in the aftermath, creating a power vacuum that was inevitably filled with hundreds of petty kingdoms, controlled by whichever warlord managed to live the longest.

This was the situation for almost a century, until the arrival of the Anglo-Saxon migrants from the northwest coast of Germany and parts of southern Denmark. Originally settling peacefully along the south and eastern seaboard of Britain, it was not long until prominent figures gathered wealth and power, and began their own Kingdoms. The Anglo-Saxon kingdoms dominated the land, pushing the native Britons to the corners of their own land.

Relief came for the locals around the year 800 AD, with the arrival of a new invader, the Danes. Although they did not arrive originally as relief, but as raiders, the Danes soon learned that the native Britons were a much fiercer warrior than the Saxons, and did not always have the riches to make the fith worth it. Alliances were formed, and within half a century, the Saxon kingdoms had all but been completely reduced. In their place now stood a patchwork of different kingdoms, with Brythonic-Norse rulers.

It was also around this time that the Kingdom of Scotland was formed, by a political marriage between the two largest entities in the north, the kingdom of the Gaels and the kingdom of the Picts. It would take this fledgling kingdom a generation to steady itself and consolidate its power in its own realm, but when it managed to accomplish stability, they were a true and imposing threat to all of their neighbours.

Their first foreign campaign was launched into the fractured lands of Ireland, from whence their Gaelic ancestors had came. Much of the Kingdom of Ulster was brought under Scottish control, though the Scots saw near constant unrest, contention, and even open revolt at times. With the help of the King of Munster and his army, and some Norse allies, the Ulstermen were able to eject the Scottish army from their homeland in the late autumn of 932.

Inspired by their success and having formed a working relationship, the two provincial kings of the north and south extremes of the country went about a campaign of unification beginning in the next spring. It would take them five years, over the course of which an agreement was brokered, allowing them to rotate their rule as High King every second year, until a brood of grandchildren should be spawned from the marriage of their children, and a suitable heir should be chosen from those, to be crowned and known simply as King, demoting the provincial kings to the rank of prince, or flaith. The first king of the united Kingdom of Ireland was Rí Brian Man Neill, who was coronated on the autumn equinox of 940 AD.

The Welsh would not be united under one banner for another five decades, when the Gwynedd kingdom rose to prominence. They had before, but had lose their title as ruler due to rebellion and civil war, and lacked the institutions needed to maintain their position as ‘Kings of the Britons’. Their most recent conquest was supported by their Gaelic neighbours across the Irish Sea however, and a series of political marriages brought relative stability to the region.

Shortly after the turn of the 11th century, worried by the growth of the Irish and Welsh and their alliance, the Scots launched an invasion of their southern neighbour Bryneich, aiming to expand their borders and own strength. In a short campaign they had made substantial advances, stopping short of full destruction instead settling for direct control of all lands north of modern day Lerapholl, and vassalage from the Breton kingdom.

Under invitation from the small Kingdom of Dumnonea, an Irish army landed on the shores of Cornwall in 1062. Dumnonea had been slighted by a small neighbouring kingdom and was now intent on quashing it, but required help to do so comfortably. Encouraged by their allies, the Dumnonea did not just stop at their small nameless neighbour however, and with five years now had the whole of southern England under its domain, though in all but official means the Dumnonea had sold themselves to be under Irish domain.

The borders that were established now by the start of the twelfth century are still roughly the ones that we know today. The did change throughout the ages with the centuries of warfare that the Isles saw, sometimes massively so, and sometimes would stay for generations, but they always seemed to change back in the new war.

The first official union of crowns on the Isles came in 1265, when the Kingdoms of Ireland and Wales became one. With intermarriage and alliances the two kingdoms had become very close, and in 1263, the throne of both was inherited by King Ronan the Pious. This move was largely expected however, and the path had been lain for years before the actual event.

The Kingdom of Dumnonea was absorbed into this union some time later. It had always been a close ally of the Welsh and Irish, with the latter aiding the Dumnoneans in fending off many invasions from European powers, not least of all being the repeated attempts of the Normans. The Bryneich kingdom was absorbed into the Gaelic-Briton union in 1513, after a long and arduous war which also involved the Bryneich’s Scottish allies. Under the Treaty of York, the Bryneich was to no longer be a Scottish vassal but would transfer allegiance to the Irish-Briton union. Under the 1516 Act of Union, the four kingdoms of Ireland, Wales, Dumnonea and Bryneich were now combined into the United Kingdoms of Britons and Gaels. By distinguishing between the terms Irish and Gaels, the United Kingdoms were hinting at their determination for a pan-Celtic Union, something which unnerved the Scots to no end.

The pan-Celtic Union would not be achieved for more than a hundred and fifty years however, with the aforementioned Treaty of Man. This treaty came as the result not of a war on the homelands, but of a colonial war between territories in the New World.

Full Nation Name: United Emirates of Arabia
Majority/Official Culture : Arab/Bedouin/Afro-Asian/African
Territorial Core :

Territorial Claim:

Image

Capital City : Riyadh
Population: 7.2 Million

Government Type :
Federal Republic, Bicameral Democracy
Government Ideology/Policies : The Government is mainly split between two Ideological Factions; the Reformists who wish to move the country towards more being a more Democratic and Modern Nation, and the Conservatives who wish to focus more on Islamic Tradition.
Government Focus : Currently, the Arabian government under Raysis Faisal I is focused primarily on improving the Economy and Commerce of the nation.
Head of State: Rayiys Faisal I
Head of Government: Prime Minister Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh, Chairman of the Federal Council Thani bin Abdulla, Chairman of the National Council Al Haj bin Abdullah Al Muhairbi.
Government Description: The Head of State, the Rayiys, acts as the sole voice of Diplomacy for the nation, as well as commanding the Military and being a figure head for the nation. While the Raysis personally does not have a hand in the government, he does have the power to appoint and remove the Prime Minister, who then has the power to appoint and remove the 22 Ministers of the 22 Ministries of the Government which take care of all Interior and Foreign Affairs, including foreign affairs, security and defence, nationality and immigration issues, education, public health, currency, postal, telephone and other communications services, labour relations, banking, delimitation of territorial waters, extradition of criminals and many more. The real power, however, lies in the Federal Council and the National Council, which act as the two Legislative Houses. The National Council, which consists of 12 Representatives elected from each of the 4 Emirates and 20 on a National Ballot, who propose and vote on laws and amendments, with a Majority vote required for Laws and a 2/3s vote for Amendments to the constitution. The Federal Council, which is made up of 4 Representatives appointed by each of the 4 Emir's, will review then vote on each law/amendment; if they find it satisfactory, they will approve it and it will then be done, if they don't find it satisfactory they will either send it back for Revision or Veto it, unless the National Council votes on a 2/3s majority to overrule them. The Raysis also has the power to veto a Law Bill at any point in the process, with the only way to overturn this Veto is with a Majority vote in both the Federal Council and National Council. The nation is split into Four Emirates, who act as the "State Governments" equivalent in the Federal System, with each one having a smaller Emirate Level version of the Federal Government. The constitution states "All powers not vested in the Federal Government are therefor the responsibility of the Emirate Governments". Ultimately, Federal Law trumps Emirate Law. The laws of the country, which we talked so much about, are enforced by The Federal Judiciary. It includes the Federal Supreme Court and Courts of First Instance. The Prime Minister appoints the five judges headed by a president to the Supreme Court. The judges are responsible for deciding if federal laws are constitutional and mediating between inter-emirate disputes. It also possesses the authority to try cases involving cabinet and senior federal officials. Although secular law is applied, the basis of legislation is Sharia (Islamic Law) and involves three of the four schools including (mainly) Maliki, but also the Hanbali and Shafi'i schools. The countries laws are also in turmoil between the Conservatives, who promote the Wahhabi Movement which seeks to "Enjoy Good, Forbid Wrong". The Wahhabi Movement is central to many of the more restrictive laws concerning Dress and Drink. Opposite them are the Reformist, who promote the Reform Movement, which seeks to promote Religious and Personal Freedoms.

Majority/State Religion :
Majority Hanbali Sunni Islam, with smaller sects of Shafi'i Sunni Islam (Yemen), Ibadi Islam (Oman), Oriental Christianity (Somalia) and others.
Religious Description : Oh boy, please don't make me try to describe Islam.

Economic Ideologies: The primary leading Ideology in the Arab Economy is Islamic Economics along with Capitalist, Mercantilism and Protectionist influences.
Major Production: Oil, Dates, Spices, Coffee, Bananas, Sugar, minor Cotton and Mining Sectors (Note; most Agricultural Goods come from the Horn of Africa Territory)
Economic Description: Largely a weak economy based off trade with foreigners.

Tech Group : N/A

Army:
Standing: 24,560 Cavalry Men (Fursan), 120,450 Infantrymen (Ghazi), 63,620 Territorial Troops (Infantry, Cavalry and Artillery), 5,210 Royal Guards and 4,280 Artillery men (Topçu). (218,030 Total)
Reserve: 73,680 Cavalry Men (Fursan), 361,350 Infantrymen (Ghazi), 190,860 Territorial Troops and 12,840 Artillery men (Topçu). (638,730 Total)

Description:High Mobility, Excellent Tactics and knowledge of the land are staples of the Arab Army. The army is composed of Conscripts, with each man required to serve 18 months Active service time after his 20th Birthday, and then spending an additional Five Years in the Reserves.
Army Weakness: Poor Equipment, little unit cohesion, poor communications and low numbers. The Arab Army has no standard Uniform, no standard arms and no standard cartridge. The clothing worn by soldiers often is either their own Tribal Dress or their own clothes (Some servicemen with more wealthy families sometimes order their own stylized Uniforms from European Tailors). The Army also does not have a standard arm, instead conscripts are expected to supply their own firearms, with there being a stockpile of Remington Rolling Blocks purchased years ago that Conscripts can purchase using money taken from their Salary. This leads to the Soldiers of the army being armed with an odd assortment of weapons, with the most common being the Remington's and the Jezzail, a Flintlock Muzzleloader, with a healthy mix of Private Purchase firearms ranging from Shite to Excellent.Communications are also quite poor, with the primary route of communication between units being a Runner or Carrier Pigeon, with Telephones and Telegraphs being non-existent.

Naval Description: 18,520 Sailors; 5 Light Armored Cruisers, 8 Protected Crusiers, 5 Monitors, 12 Destroyers, 2 Coastal Defense Ship, 32 Patrol Gunboats, 45 Torpedo Boats and 80 Transport ships. 600 Men serving in the Maritime Infantry, serving as garrisons aboard the ship. The men of the Arab navy are of the highest caliber, the officers were hand picked by Raysis Pasha who then trained and drilled the men to a fine point. The ships of the Arabian Navy are most effective in the coastal regions around the Peninsula and horn of Africa, and are designed to be fast and nimble.
Naval Weakness: The Arabian Navy, like the Army, suffers from the lack of Industrialization and standarization of the Arab Military. Most uniforms are designed by the ships commander and issued to his men, with some not even bothering and just let the men wear whatever. Most ships carry a stockpile of Remington Rolling Blocks as their main rifles for sailors, and the ships supplies of Shells aren't always as much as they should be. The ships of the Arab Navy were built to be fast and nimble, but this comes at a trade off for Armor and Firepower, which Arab ships lack in comparison to their European counterparts.

National Goals: Improve the Economy and Arabian Industry.
National Issues: Tensions between Shia, Sunni and other sects of Islam within the Republic.
National Figures of Interest: The Prophet Mohammed (Lazy answer, i know.)
National Ambition/Aspirations: Uniting all of Islam under the Arabian Nation.

History: The land that today is called Arabia is an ancient and storied land. Its people having gone through different ethnicity, religions and governments. In the beginning, all there was were the Tribes. Roaming bands of Nomads who did what they could to survive in the harsh climate that is the Arab Desert. Years passed, technologies advanced, new nations of old came and went from the lands of Arabia. Bronze Age nations, then the Greeks and Persians tried to tame the mighty desert beast. The Romans didn't even try to foray into the desert, content to simply rule the coast.

The first true Arab nation was establish in 632 CE. The teachings of Islam had swept through the Peninsula and had, for the first time, united the Arabian Peoples. The Arab Nation, known as the Rashidun Caliphate, began to expand. Their borders reaching as far north as Baghdad, as far west as Tripoli and as far south as Mogadishu. But this empire was not to last. The Romans, whose collapse had allowed Arabia to expand, had managed to survive in their Eastern Territory. The Romans formed a Devils pact with the only other power in the region, the Persians, and together they defeated the Rashidun Armies on the fields of Arabia and crushed the nation. The Caliphate collapsed, and Roman rule was re-established in the Middle East.

After the Collapse of the Caliphate, many went back to their Nomadic Ways, while smaller City State and Nations cropped up along the coastal regions. Known now as the Dark Age of Arabia, the prosperity of Rashidun Rule was replaced with Warlords. The Arabian Arts and Sciences swiftly died while those in Europe began to flourish. Arabian society began to decompose back to the old ways, and the Culture itself began to wilt.

The first nation to leave the Dark Age was Oman. Historically a powerful position, Oman was one of the major trade nations in the Indian Gulf, and as such was able to recover much faster than the other Arab nations. Under the Nabhani dynasty, Oman began to grow wealthy off trade and this excess of Wealth was put back into those Arts which had previously lied dormant; The Arts, Literature, and the Sciences. The Omanies possessed a powerful navy, and used it to enforce their trade hegemony in the Persian Gulf.

By 1824, the Arabian Peninsula was under one of four nation; Nejd, Oman, Yemen, and Hejaz. Nejd was the largest in terms of land and also had the most ports on the Persian Gulf, while Oman still was the Wealthies, Yemen had the largest population while Hejaz held the Religious capital of Islam, Mecca. Border skirmishes were often and varied, and sometimes war would even break out between the Arabs as they tried to take the others resources. Change came in 1825, when Rome Attacked.

The Emirate of Nejd held the province of Kuwait, a small area that had one of the busiest ports on the Persian Gulf. It was often the last stop for most traders before they went back home, and as such grew quite wealthy off trade. Kuwait was the price jewel of the Nejd Emirate, and the Romans wanted it. In 1825, a Roman Army crossed the border and occupied Kuwait. Nejd quickly raised its conscript army, and marched off only to be soundly defeated by the superior Romans. The war dragged on for months until the Nejd Emirate finally conceded defeat under the pressure of a Roman Offensive and Blockade.

The war, while only taking a small province, suddenly alerted the Arab nations to the Roman threat on their border. Suddenly, each Emir and Sultan suddenly realized that at any moment, a Roman army could come and invade them at. The only thing securing Arab independence, was Roman Apathy, and that scared the Arab Rulers.

All Four of the Arab Leaders met in Mecca, and after two months of discussion they came to the agreement to form a Federation. Each ruler would retain partial sovereignty while also giving up powers to a larger Federal Government. The local Rulers, now all called Emirs, formed the Federal Council which would elect one of their for a 10 year term as Rayiys, and also each appointing 5 Representatives to form a Legislative Branch. The Capital, it was decided, to be Riyadh due to its central location on the Peninsula. And so, at that council in 1825, the United Emirates of Arabia was born.

In 1840, the administration of Raysis Ahmed Abdullah pushed for further reforms to bring Arabia closer to Democracy. The chief reforms being those of making the Local Emir an Elected Position, and having the National Council be made up of 10 Elected Representatives from each Emir, and the Federal Council being changed to a Second Legislative body of 2 Officials appointed by each Emir that acted much like the English House of Lords. The Rayiys wasn't changed much, aside from there being National Elections for Rayiys Candidates that would ultimately be chosen by a 2/3 vote in the Federal Council. These reforms were celebrated by Abdullah's Reform Party, but those of the Conservative Party were furious at this affront to Tradition. The Emir of Yemen even raised some of his people into an Army to march on Riyadh, but a traitor among his Generals helped the National Army defeat him. After that, the Reforms weren't challenged openly, as Abdullah grew paranoid and began to crack down on Dissidents.

Over the years, the many Rayiys expanded Arabian Power. Rayiys Ali Bin Hussein, in 1853, even expanded the nations territory down to the Horn of Africa, which had been a historical province of the Rashidun Caliphate. It was established as a Autonomous Territory, with its own version of an Emirate Government (But no voice in the Federal Government). He also put in place certain orders for the construction of a naval fleet, but these would eventually be carried out by his successor in 1861 when the Arabian Navy was established and its ships ordered from both the Muscat Drydocks and foreign companies. More Rayiys would be elected, each enacting his own Reforms, in Education, Industry, Commerce, and many others. Each imprinting his vision on the country.

Its been years now since the formation and reforms, and the same issues plague the Arabian Nation. The Reformists and Conservatives still battle, undoing and redoing each others works, but its the 20th century now and a new Rayiys has just been elected and he's a champion of the Reformists. So maybe the future of Arabia will change, for there is hope in the minds and hearts of every Arab, and Faisal won't let them down.

Errr.... now that Hansa isn't around... after 24 hour lockup you can. I will be keeping your reservation as well.

Only accepted nations and reserves from the OPs are part of the map atm. It isn't nearly as accurate as I wish it would be... but alas, not touching cartography even with a meter-long pole. Cy isn't accepted nation because he isn't coming back to me over restart, so I am stuck here... don't worry, you don't need to revise your history even if he doesn't come back.

Remnants of Exilvania wrote:Nice map. But I never had a coast. In none of my apps. Italy claimed that part from what I remember.

I distinctively remember that there was a massive argument over OPs on whether you should be allowed the coast or not for fairness sake. Like... you need a coast to be a colonial power... but Venice would have historical rights... European this European that... I think that was the compromise that we had for ya XDDD

If you REALLY don't want it, let me know and I'll notify the board. I was also on the impression that you would want a coast but never had the chance to claim it due to border gore from Italy.

The Traansval wrote:ffs, they locked the old thread so i can't copy paste the app

Meh? This never happened before... errr.. dunno what to say XDDD. I guess we caused too much drama and mods wanted to lock the thread up to prevent it from happening again? XDDD At any rate, it wasn't my call, so I have no idea how to fix it.

Think this about sums it up... ugh... was 24 hour too unforgiving? I was half expecting everyone to reaffirm reserves within 24 hours, and it is VERY much nearing that time.

I was mainly wondering, if he doesn't come back, can I add Virginia and Kentucky to my territory as a result of the Second Virginia War?

Errr... I will take that up to the board. It makes perfect sense that you have those two, but just in case anyone has beef with this.

Whoever said I wanted to be colonial power? Or is that an absolute requirement for the european technological club?

The thing of getting a coast is a national and political focus. When I acquire a cost then it will be ICly and not OOCly.

Full Nation Name : Kingdom of Zhur
Majority/Official Culture : Proto-Northern Chinese
Territorial Core : Khazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan
Territorial Claim : The Xhurong dynasty is built on the vision of the manifest destiny of the people of Zhur one day spanning the known world. As such, their claims are quite vast: Eastern Roman Empire as far south as Ethiopia, west to Hungary, Caucausus regions, Ural, Eurasia as far west as Ukraine, extending to pacific. China extending to Tibet in the South, Ariana, northern India; Japan. However, their only de jure claims are Mongorria, China, Korea (contested), Ariana, and Caucusus (contested)
Capital City : Vozrozhdenzlys Island, Rozhden.
Population : 12.8 Million
Government Type : Tribal monarchy, ala Germanic Kingship
Government Ideology/Policies: Secular, Militaristic, Neutral
Government Focus : The government's focus is bringing unity to a fractured nation, increase trade (both import and export), improve quality of life for its citizens, and expand its military.
Head of State :King Tzun Xhu
Head of Government : General Menx Xhu
Government Description : Quasi-tribal government, very decentralized, focused on developing trade and a strong military, while maintaining public order.
Majority/State Religion : Tengrism
Religious Description : The populace follows tengrism, with some buddhism here and there. Islam is unheard, and very little christianity has seeped in.
Economic Ideologies : Primitive Mercantilism, government is not developed well enough to have a uniform policy.
Major Production : (In order of volume)Coal, ferrous metals, crude oil, cannabis products, aluminum, potatoes, opium products, fish
Economic Description : Stable, raw-resource export focus, little industrialization
Tech Group: Eastern European/Oriental. No electricity or running water in 95% of country. No telegraph infrastructure. Capitol has running water and basic electrical power grid. No weapons factories; everything is made by skilled craftsmen. Highly sophisticated oil and mineral extraction processes, refinement processes are on par with industrialized nations due to a history of foreign investment.
Only one higher learning facility in nation; Royal Military Academy of Engineering and Science. Public education unheard of outside of capitol.
National Goals : Modernize country, improve infrastructure, strengthen military, expand control over resource-rich regions
National Issues: Small, outdated military, lack of infrastructure, lack of industrialization outside of mining
National Figures of Interest : Tzun Xhu, led coup against foreign-backed dictatorial regime, along with his brother, Menx Xhu. Folk heroes, they both led in battle bravely, earning themselves a repution of courage, valor, and fearsomeness. Tzun Xhu is the more austere, grounded of the two, looking out for the long-term interests of the country. Menx is a man of the people, a little less down-to-earth, and more prone to ostentatious living.
National Ambition/Aspirations : Little more than a mish-mash of liberated peasants, the populace has few ambitions of its own beyond not going hungry, being raped by oppressors, or getting killed.
Army Strength : The land forces of Zhur, while small, are augmented by militia units, popular support, and the few regular units are well-supplied and organized. Fighting an offensive war against Zhur would prove to be quite a challenge for even the most well-organized and equipped army.
Army Weakness : The utter lack of regular units makes an offensive against a modern nation out of the question, barring stupidity or extremely brazen strategy.
Naval Strength : Small area of responsibilility, well-defended coastal cities, and the ability to transport their ships by rail.
Naval Weakness : Asgeirrian combat ships are small and lightly armed, more suited to hunting individual ships than fighting navies. They also have no experience fighting warships, or even as a unit. The lack of coalers and other support ships reduces their combat ability to short sorties.
Further Military Description : The Royal Corps of Engineers makes up the majority of the regular army, and is made up of skilled laborers, miners, and craftsmen led by well-educated engineers, architects, scholars, and quartermasters. Their experience in modernizing, rebuilding, and renovating the country have given them a reputation amongst the populace as trustworthy, hard-working public servants. There are 5,400 men led by 600 officers in the RCE, although their military training is limited to experience from the civil war that brought them together as a unit. During the conflict, the RCE was tasked with clearing towns, villages, mines, and swamps. This gave them valuable CQB experience, which they used to train tracker, navigator, and war dogs. They maintain kennels with hundreds of dogs, with plans to expand them. The Royal Guard is the main combat unit, consisting of 280 Cavalrymen, 120 Artillerymen, and 400 Guardsmen. The cavalry is mostly limited to keeping the peace in the capitol and occasionally the surrounding villages. The artillerymen are tasked with operating, maintaining, and guarding the walls. The guardsmen keep the palace safe, as well as augmenting the wall's defenses. The rest of the armed forces consist of militia frontiersmen, hunters, and nomadic cavalry.
The navy's four ships are converted icebreakers with a steel turtleship configuration similar to that of the CSS Manassas. They are equipped with an armored prow, bolted-down internal boilers, and a single, forward-facing 128mm gun. Weighing well under 500 tonnes, they can fairly easily be transported by freight train between the Aral sea and the Caspian. There are 5 converted rescue tugs, each fitted to inflate, launch, and dock observation balloons. Additionally, they each are equipped with 4 37mm deck guns for self-defense, but mostly to rupture runaway balloons.
The RCE makes use of balloons for both observation and mine-laying. They are currently constructing their first hard-framed zeppelin, for the safe and reliable transport of the king and other dignitaries, with future applications more in line with the military aspect.
History : For centuries, the land now controlled by the Zhur Kingdom was passed from the Mongols to the Chinese, the Hephthalites, and White Huns. with its local puppet regime being the only common factor. The main foreign interest was the extraction of the many minerals available in the region. However, the companies invested in the mining often neglected and even mistreated the local populace. After years and years of such oppression and abuse, violent revolts became widespread, reducing the companies' ability to extract minerals effectively. The corrupt government forces struggled to maintain control of the populace, as the situation became more and more turbulent, which eventually resulted in widespread riots, the killing of the many foreign businessmen. Revolutionary groups began rising up in greater numbers, but most were quelled eventually. In 1870, two brothers, Menx and Tzun Zhurong, led a successful uprising in the north, on the platform of fair wages, reasonable working hours, and purging large businesses from corrupt moneygrubbing, taking huge swathes of land from both government forces and local warlords. They called for all people of enlightened thought and thirst for freedom and opportunity to join the cause of their ideological crusade, attracting the attention of gentlemen scholars from abroad, waving the banner of a government for the people, and social reform. Miners, hunters, farmers, wives, fishermen, children, the elderly, and all in between found themselves swept up on the tide of revolution, each helping in what ways they could. The brothers led the revolution to victory after victory, absorbing other movements, warlords, even disgruntled government troops. In a matter of months, they rid the country of its oppressive former masters, and began a purge of corruption. Mass public executions of corrupt government officials, businessmen, tax collectors, the seizing and nationalizing businesses, instituting fair wages, and the burning of foreign paper money were all parts of the movement towards a wholly domestic government. Tzun was obsessed with the removal of corruption and modernization of Zhur, with little regard for tradition, foreign opinions, and resulting repercussions.
Tzun began his second domestic campaign at the center of the kingdom; the capitol. He took the educated men of the nation, along with skilled workers and craftsmen, and formed The Royal Corps of Engineers. He tasked them with the revitalization of the nation, with their first objective being the design and construction of a modern island citadel; Rozhden. Construction began in 1874, and was completed in 1897.

I'm still slightly confused as to why you would claim the Roman Empire.

But I will take a look at the app

Theoretically, you could claim whatever you'd want, but that section is meant for claims that could actually be used in the IC. Historical claims, blood claims, or simply realistic areas of expansion in which your state would have interests.

Yes, the claims section is to signal to other players where your nation's interests and likely territorial ambitions lie. Just claiming a whole continent for the hell of it is unhelpful at best and, at worst, a good way to turn every other player in the vicinity against you from the start.

The Traansval wrote:(Image)
Full Nation Name: United Emirates of Arabia
Majority/Official Culture : Arab/Bedouin/Afro-Asian/African
Territorial Core :

Territorial Claim:

Capital City : Riyadh
Population: 5.2 Million

Government Type :
Federal Republic, Bicameral Democracy
Government Ideology/Policies : The Government is mainly split between two Ideological Factions; the Reformists who wish to move the country towards more being a more Democratic and Modern Nation, and the Conservatives who wish to focus more on Islamic Tradition.
Government Focus : Currently, the Arabian government under Emir Faisal I is focused primarily on improving the Economy and Commerce of the nation.
The Rayiys also instructs the Prime Minister, who then instructs the 22 Ministers of the 22 Ministries of the Government which take care of all Interior and Foreign Affairs, including foreign affairs, security and defence, nationality and immigration issues, education, public health, currency, postal, telephone and other communications services, labour relations, banking, delimitation of territorial waters, extradition of criminals and many more. The real power, however, lies in the Federal Council and the National Council, which act as the two Legislative Houses. The National Council, which consists of 10 Representatives elected from each of the 4 Emirates propose and vote on laws and amendments, with a Majority vote required for Laws and a 2/3s vote for Amendments to the constitution. The Federal Council, which is made up of 2 Representatives appointed by each of the 4 Emir's, act as an advisory council, and will review then vote on each law/amendment; if they find it satisfactory, they will approve it and it will then be done, if they don't find it satisfactory they will send it back to the National Council who then have to rewrite it, unless they vote on a 2/3s majority to overrule them. The Four Emirates act as the State Governments in the Federal System, with each one having a smaller Emirate Level version of the Federal Government. The Emirates have some small powers, mainly as the constitution states, "All powers not vested in the Federal Government are therefor the responsibility of the Emirate Governments".

Army Description: 308,220 Total Servicemen; 50,760 Cavalry Men (Fursan), 33,160 Mounted Infantry (Akinji), 136,180 Infantrymen (Ghazi), 63,600 Territorial Troops, 2,760 Republican Guards, 21,600 Artillery men (Topçu).. High Mobility, Excellent Tactics and knowledge of the land are staples of the Arab Army.
Army Weakness: Poor Equipment, little unit cohesion, poor communications and low numbers. The Arab Army has no standard Uniform, no standard arms and no standard cartridge. The clothing worn by soldiers often is either their own Tribal Dress or their own clothes (Some servicemen with more wealthy families sometimes order their own stylized Uniforms from European Tailors), and their weapons can often range from Cutting Edge European Rifles (Usually purchased by those more Wealthy Servicemen) to the much more common Jezail Flintlock and Single Shot Black powder rifles (Martini Henri's, French Gras Rifles, etc.). Also, the primary route of communication between unit is still a Runner or Carrier Pigeon, with Telephones and Telegraphs being non-existent.

Naval Description: 18,520 Sailors; 5 Light Armored Cruisers, 8 Protected Crusiers, 5 Monitors, 12 Destroyers, 2 Coastal Defense Ship, 32 Patrol Gunboats, 45 Torpedo Boats and 80 Transport ships. 600 Men serving in the Maritime Infantry, serving as garrisons aboard the ship. The men of the Arab navy are of the highest caliber, the officers were hand picked by Shah Pasha and those officers trained and drilled the men to a fine point.

Yeah but that'd be meta, and RP-ers don't ever meta, right? :o
In all seriousness though, I feel it's good to have some unrealistic ambitions to work towards in an RP, just so you don't burn out after allying or conquering your immediate neighbors. And I suppose that'd turn some people against me, but who could say no to a face like this with deals like mine?

No, that's not meta at all.
A historical claim, blood claim or such thing is pretty darn surely known by everyone. Because if not then the claim would be worthless as no one would recognise it for what it is.
And even national interests in territories aren't easily hidden.
