In-Character Thread
April 10, 2025.
It has been ten years since order has been restored to the cosmos, and the Law of Cycles is once again in the hands of the rightful Goddess. Normality has been restored to the system - Kyubey grants Wishes for girls, girls become Magical Girls, Magical Girls fight wraiths and the occasional archon for their Grief Cubes to rid their Soul Gems of despair, Magical Girls squabble over territory and either gain control of a city (or cities) or end up working for someone who does, Magical Girls use the name of their cities instead of their real names (more out of tradition and etiquette than necessity), and eventually Magical Girls succumb to the Law of Cycles, whether through despair, age, or in a few legendary cases, choice.
In the United States, though, the winds of change have started to blow. For decades, Los Angeles has been referred to as 'The City Where Magical Girls Go To Die', and the only girls ballsy enough to to claim a name from the Southland are Terminatrixes - Magical Girls hired by Kyubey to off Magical Girls considered too dangerous to allow to live; and even then these Terminatrixes rarely if ever actually live within the Los Angeles metropolitan area - the wraiths are too strong, too smart, too numerous for any sane Magical Girl to ever consider taking on without an army, or even the Army, and Terminatrixes rarely have abilities useful for handling wraiths.
But an army indeed is forming to take back Tinseltown. Initially postulated as a half-serious idea by the previous Las Vegas, the idea gained steam when San Francisco admitted to liking it, and later Phoenix and Albuquerque. Still, no real motions to act on the idea came to fruition until the kingdom-like state of Chicago decided to support the idea, and dozens more followed suit, from Anchorage to Zacatecas. Some out of interest, some out of boredom, some out of lust for battle, and of course, some just to get rid of a few annoying Magical Girls by throwing them in the world's bloodiest meat grinder west of the Prime Meridian.
The date is set - April 19, 2025. On this day, efforts commence to seize Los Angeles from control of the wraiths.
All while keeping the mundanes out of it. The Masquerade must go on without the real Army finding out, after all.

SYNOPSIS
Los Angeles is a town so infested with wraiths and other demon things that no sane Magical Girl would dare enter it alone. But now there are hundreds of Magical Girls heading for Los Angeles in an organized force to rid the United States of the last city without a single Magical Girl keeping the wraiths in check. Some of you are here for boredom, some for glory, some because a more powerful Magical Girl who may or may not be your superior told you to. Regardless, you are here, and the effort to 'liberate' Los Angeles will start soon, the effort having been planned months in advance. But no plan of battle ever survives first contact with the enemy, and there are far worse ways to die than old age or the Law of Cycles...

THE WORLD
Map of North America - Coming Soon!
Magical Girls have existed almost as long as there has been civilization, perhaps older - at the very least, the Incubators known as 'Kyubey' has been known by historically-minded Magical Girls to have been on Earth in some quantity or another for at least ten thousand years, and Magical Girls cannot exist without Incubators. The Law of Cycles has also existed as long as there have been Magical Girls - even the very earliest records regarding them mention it. Of course, there are only four non-MG organizations in the world with this knowledge, with the documents in question kept in a hidden archive beneath St. Peter's Basilica along with other historical documents relating to Magical Girls, with similar collections in the Ise Grand Shrine in Japan, the Library of Congress' secret vault in the mountains of West Virginia, and the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple's basement in India.
Regardless, society and the world marched on blissfully unaware of the existence of Kyubey, Magical Girls, or wraiths of any sort, except in fairy tales, television, and the writings of a certain Rhode Island author who was famously afraid of sea creatures, plants, and black people. In more modern events, the 2024 election was a landmark one in numerous ways - the Democratic Party was desperate to regain power after eight long years of Trump, the Republicans were desperate to find a replacement, and the Libertarians and Greens sought sweet, sweet Relevance, which they at last got, with the Greens securing two percent of the vote and the Libertarians gaining eighteen, securing Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and Montana. It was enough to split the voter base in three, but not enough to prevent a Republican from winning again - Maxwell Schopenhauer, a veteran of the Iraq War and a senator from Kansas who helped oversee the cleanup of ISIS and the liberation of Kurdistan, America's newest ally in the Middle East. Despite being a more moderate Republican, there is still a sense of distrust of the President and the American government as a whole from both sides, as well as a distrust in the media and police forces. While the situation is nowhere near as volatile as it was in the first two years of the Trump administration, there is still a sense of tension between the left and right in America. Perhaps despite or even because of this, the number of wraiths and Archons in America has only decreased since then by about fifteen percent.
Technology, too, has advanced - Chevrolet has announced the C9 Corvette will be a hybrid, as electric cars are over twice as common as they were ten years ago. America's train network, revitalized in the later years of the Trump administration in a bid to create jobs, has begun to expand its high-speed rail network, and connected itself with Canada's and Mexico's in December of last year. Virtual Reality has grown from a gimmick in the gaming industry to as large a factor as handhelds, and has even expanded into mainstream television use, with the world's first VRMMO - EVE: Blackened Skies, jointly developed by NASA and CCP Games - to enter open beta in early May. Medically, the first 'printed' organs were implanted successfully in 2021, with the first reproductive organ transplant later that year. The world's first publicly operational nuclear fusion reactor went online in 2023, and the technology swiftly propagated. And lastly, NASA is currently testing what is believed could be a working faster-than-light propulsion system.

RELIGION
Naturally there are the traditional religions of the world - Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Shintoism, and the hundreds of others - and even those who do not believe in anything at all. However, religion holds an important place in the realm of Magical Girls because unlike any other religion, that of the Magical Girls has indisputable evidence it exists in the form of the Law of Cycles, though since few know of the divine nature of the Law of Cycles, there are still many Magical Girls that follow other religions, or even none at all.
Simply put, when a Magical Girl has their Wish granted by an Incubator (henceforth and before referred to as Kyubey or QB), their Soul is removed from their body and compressed to a hyperdense, durable (but not indestructible) form known as a Soul Gem, which takes three forms - the Active form, which appears when they are 'transformed' into a Magical Girl and using their supply of magic (this form changes wildly between individuals), the Inactive form, which takes the form of a simple silver ring on the left middle finger with the Gem itself in a diamond shaped inlay, and the Inert form, which resembles a Faberge egg. As a Magical Girl fights and uses magic, or as they slip into depression (or worse, despair), the Soul Gem steadily dulls, then blackens. Using the Grief Cubes dropped by defeated Wraiths and the far more powerful Archons, a Soul Gem can be restored to its normal state or even supercharged. At no point besides totality will a Soul Gem's corruption increase on its own. However, when a Soul Gem blackens completely, the Magical Girl 'dies' and is taken by the Law of Cycles to 'heaven' - a fairly common occurrence. What is rare, and what makes it a religion, is that a select few Magical Girls with vision-related abilities have seen what happens exactly. Each report is exactly the same - A tall woman of Asian descent with floor length pink hair and a white dress whose inside contains the universe wraps their arms around the Magical Girl and touches their Soul Gem, purifying it instantly. Both the woman and the Magical Girl then vanish.
