I think this will put us in a better position for a civil war, if Turner has his own troops that are directly loyal to him.

I'm guessing Turner would want to do it before the Imperium finds out about Ego and rolfstomps both of us.

The Imperium is strong, but not that strong. Sustaining a long term campaign across the Atlantic, even with their level of technology, would be very difficult.

We would be better of establishing diplomatic relations with them and trying to get some of their tech.

True, but things like Christianity against Ego's religion will stomp it, even if we had the same amount of tech(i.e the Norse). Ego also needs to be able to unify against the Imperium's growing influence in Europe. If we can pull those two things off, then we can survive contact with the Imperium.

However, Jeb does see that Turner could be useful in uniting Ego so he sent the Cult to watch him, see how far he would go with his ambitions and see if they are good or bad for Ego, then they will deal him as he will become a bigger threat once Ego is united.

Turner's not a stupid man, and he knows the Council doesn't trust him; if he is using his own spy ring throughout Ego, then he could come to the conclusion that the Cult of Foxes is certainly spying on him.

I'm really going to have to become like Littlefinger then. The Council must never know Turner's true motives, so they can't use said motives against him. I must mislead the Council consistently.
