Here's a species app from another rp I'm in. I think these people could be the denizens of a water world, perhaps Europa or one of the Gliese581 planets
Edit: Sorry, forgot to include it:

Name: Sairhavnar(fem: Sairhavna; masc: Sairhavnr; premature: Sairhavnet)
Appearance: Sairhavnar are fairly similar in appearance to humans from the waist up, aside from the key differences, notably the lack of external ears, a rainbow of potential hair colours, and gills protruding from their necks. From the waist down, Sairhavnar appear similar to ancient tetrapods, particularly that of Tiktaalik, although the scale colours are much brighter and more varied, and their tail fin extends to where human knees would be. Further, males and females exhibit traits similar to those of humans, although they have no body hair, and the ‘hair’ on their heads are sensory organs reminiscent of whiskers, and are used to detect disturbances by potential prey.
Description: Sairhavnar are a fishlike species created in the image of the goddess Ilmeula. They exhibit traits similar to prehistoric tetrapods, having both semiretractable feathery gills and a lung which can be closed off from the oesophagus. The lobed fins from just above where hip level would be in humans are capable of movement, and, using their hands, Sairhavnar are capable of manoeuvring outside of water for extended periods of time, though they must crawl on their stomachs due to the fact that their rear fins are only capable of lifting their rear a short distance off the ground.

Among their most unique traits in terms of sentient organisms, however, is their sequential hermaphroditism. Each Sairhavnet exhibits hermaphroditism before they begin to mature. As they mature, they begin to exhibit either male or female primary and secondary sexual characteristics based on a ratio between willingness to show off on physical strength and muscle mass vs desire and competency in caring for young and lack of rigorous physical activity. Whichever value is the largest dictates the continued development of a Sairhavnet, until it becomes either a Sairhavnr or Sairhavna.

Upon reaching maturity, Sairhavnar are given a white shirt to cover their chest and abdomen. When it comes to reproduction and mating, Sairhavnar court each other chiefly through flashing bioluminescent patches on their chests in neon colours, a stark contrast to the duller bioluminescent patches used to communicate in the skin of their faces. The colours, if they shine through the shirts, signify to potential partners that they are in peak condition, and the mating process may begin.

Reproduction occurs just before the final parts of mating, and is nearly indistinguishable from the reproductive processes of amphibians. Once the brief reproduction section of the mating process is completed, the two Sairhavnar may participate in gratifying games, or not at all. Regardless, they then register their mating with an elder Sairhavnar, and move themselves and their brood into an underwater dwelling, usually an artificial cave.

For instance, would serums that grant humans temporary super powers through genetic alteration or techno-organic lifeforms that enhanced the abilities of the wearer at the expense of feeding of their life-force be allowed?

Most excellent! The power and technology level should be fairly post modern, as I imagine the roleplay taking place in the 22nd Century or thereabout, I can draw up a rough timeline soon as well. Both of those things would definitely be allowed, no doubt. High-energy super serums and Blue Beetle suits are always great to write about, in my experience.

Alright, then I have a few possible characters concepts I can go with. Not sure what the character limit is or what I can handle writing with quality, so I'm just going to list out my possibilities and narrow it down based off what you guys think sounds cool.

  • Option 1: Biological science character. Creates serums that mess with your genes. Used primarily to heal/buff allies like Ana from Overwatch, though can also administer serums catered to a specific person to grant them superpowers from another meta. Overuse of any of these can have unintended side effects.

Backstory involves an extra-teresstial experiment gone wrong, engulfing a close friend in an alien cocoon. Character hopes that through studying metas, they can find a way to save their friend.

  • Option 2: Failed super soldier. Deadpool with more morals and a suit that does god-knows-what. Breaks the fourth wall, high regenerative powers, suit that feeds off his healing power and can temporarily grant him super powers by taking more of his life, limiting his healing factor to normal levels. However, he was never trained with the suit, and as such does know how to use it. This can cause him to use anything from telekinesis to food manipulation, but without any warning of what the power is, how to use it, or how long he can use it.

Backstory involves genetically-altered human with an advanced healing factor being subjected to a battery of tests, leading up to the creation of a suit designed to give him any power he may need. Something goes wrong, he gets free, and now tries to atone for the sins of his past.

  • Option 3: Glass and mirror manipulation. A mix of DC's Mirror Master and Worm's Shatterbird. Ability to teleport through mirrors, shatter it to create a whirl of glass shards or other weapons, then recreate mirrors to teleport away. Can shatter inorganic material by shattering their reflections. Teleports by traveling through a mirror dimension, a confusing landscape akin to a mirror maze.

Backstory involves the Mysterium, a traveling carnival staffed by metas that's been linked to several disappearances and occult occurrences where ever it goes.

  • Option 4:Luck and board game manipulator. Is lucky when it counts, at the cost of being a klutz otherwise or by causing someone emotionally close to suffer a similarly unlucky experience. Acts as a sort of aura that helps them, or can be focused onto a single point to cause improbable events to happen at the expense of bad luck happening to someone close. Has a variety of game-themed gadgets and skills, likely a thief of some kind.

Backstory involves gambling against the personification of Lady Luck for super powers and winning, at a terrible personal cost.

That's about all the ideas I've got for now. What do you guys think?

In order:

1: Cool idea, but powers don't come from DNA/genes in this universe. Beyond that, it's a fun idea.

2: As not as he's not blatanlt telling everyone what they're doing isn't real, am 100% down.

3: You've read Worm too? http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/fac ... 04/559.jpg But a great idea if he's okay with lugging around mirrors everywhere he goes.

4: This one is definitely my favorite. Love Luck manipulators and probability manipulators in general.

Possible tag. This seems interesting and I would like to take part. I hope I can be on enough if this takes off, had to withdraw from the last rp I was in due to life getting a bit hectic and hope the same doesn't happen here. Apologies in advance if it does.
For application, I'll probably see what species are okay to use before deciding on a character. Which reminds me, I'm not for sure if I would have multiple or not but just in case how many are ok?

If the Worm, you speak of, is the Web serial by Wildbow, I have read parts of that, but have completed another story by the author, Pact.

As for your concepts, Dough, 2 and 4 are usually your go-tos for Academy rps, though you used 3 in Mellow-Brook, (my recent academy rp) but you never got to use them.

Will addmy character concept later, my pc is being wonky right now for some reason.

Understood and thanks. Don't know for certain how many I'll have yet(likely two at most, three if some idea pops into my head and I can't get rid of it) but wanted to make sure.
I almost forgot to mention something. I can't be here weekends and some holidays, am using a local place for internet and it isn't open at those times. Sorry.

1. Darn. So where do powers come from in this universe? I read the lore but I couldn't tell myself. And is it something that a scientist could replicate with a serum? I know the school has robots that can replicate powers with tech, but that's not exactly what I'm going for.

2. I can do that.

3. I've read some of it. I got past the Slaughterhouse Nine and I'm now at the part where Dragon's in the city. Funnily enough, I started reading it because I saw your Slaughterhouse Nine flag.

Is magic a thing in this universe? If so, I'd have the manipulator conjure glass. If that's not, is teleportation/pocket dimension storage a thing? If so, I'd have them start fights by throwing down little devices that emit smoke and open a portal where the glass is stored. If none of that works, then I'll have pockets all over the suit that store the glass to make the mirrors.

4. Glad you like it. So would a personification of Lady Luck be a thing here?

1: Cosmic energy shards made from the energy beings that died long ago. By having the machines mimic powers I meant like a machine that has super strength/flame throwers/ electricity shooters, ect.

Not sure how that fits in with the cosmic energy shards though.

Name: Auduliya-Zhenlinn Qrombapoulas

Age: 14

Race: Chiefly Caucasoid Semi-Human(Was born completely human, but slowly drifted in many ways, even genetically, from humans, and now can be considered nothing short of a subspecies)

Gender: Currently female, though can technically shift at will, given enough time

Appearance:
Image

Powers: Shapeshifting based chiefly in mimicry. Auduliya can only shapeshift into forms that she has seen, including colours. As a result, she has become fairly skilled in art, so she can transfer her visual ideas to paper, and then use them to grow her pool of aspects which she can use to shapeshift, though seeing things in person is still vastly superior.

Furthermore, Auduliya can travel through time to a certain degree. When travelling backwards in time, she enters a spectral state, where she cannot directly interact with anything in the past, but may sense anything happening at the given time, leaving the spectral state only when she reaches a point at which she travelled back in time.

When travelling forwards in time, Auduliya disappears until she reaches the period of time she wants, but this ability has two major flaws. Most importantly, if an object obstructs the area where she is supposed to appear, she loses almost all control of her time travelling, as she is either spit back to the time where she tried to travel forward from, or is launched further into the future. The other notable flaw with travelling forward in time is that she has less control over when she reappears the further into the future she attempts to travel.

Finally, Auduliya can bring other beings and objects with her by touching them with one of her hands, though travelling with others drains her mentally and physically much more than when she is bringing nothing with her. This combination of limitations makes Auduliya fairly reluctant to use her time travelling abilities, making her rather unskilled in controlling them.

Definitely. Both are perfectly viable.

Though i do want to go with my Immutabiliy and regen character, I really want to make a character based on the song 'The Wizard' By Black Sabbath.

Misty morning, clouds in the sky
Without warning, the wizard walks by
Casting his shadow, weaving his spell
Funny clothes, tinkling bell

Never talking
Just keeps walking
spreading his magic

Evil power disappears
Demons worry when the wizard is near
He turns tears into joy
Everyone's happy when the wizard walks by

Never talking
Just keeps walking
spreading his magic

Sun is shining, clouds have gone by
All the people give a happy sigh
He has passed by, giving his sign
Left all the people feeling so fine

Never talking
Just keeps walking
spreading his magic

Soem sort of purification power perhaps.

It would be easier to balance than the relative immutability i thought of before.

Is it possible for the scientist character to be trying to create synthetic powers by studying others? A student with super intelligence and a natural affinity to studying exotic biology, who is creating serums that grant super powers for short (15 minute max) doses? Or is that not possible in this universe.

There's no "personifications" in this universe.

Is it possible for the scientist character to be trying to create synthetic powers by studying others? A student with super intelligence and a natural affinity to studying exotic biology, who is creating serums that grant super powers for short (15 minute max) doses? Or is that not possible in this universe.

That's entirely possible. Someone could specifically have the power to make serums that temporarily give abilities.

Extraterrestrial race. I am at least 83% sure that you're a human. I didn't feel the need to write a HUMANITY, FUCK YEAH post since well... You're a human.
