The Maritimes Union survived what would be indefinite annexation from its neighbors for no reason other than luck, but couldn't survive an invasion from it of any size. Instead of the Confederation creating Canada, just the Maritmes Union was, so the rest of the nation, divided, fell with lack of British support. Its military is based on quality rather than quantity, and is known for some of the most elite troops and high quality weapon designs.
