There are plenty of Canon houses left. Most are not going to be the Lords Paramount, but major nobles still are aplenty.

I agree. Just because someone can't be online as often as everyone else, we shouldn't give up on them. That said, we do need someone to accept apps and move the story along.

Heres the deal though, for my custom house it has been established that its founding was due to saving a Blackwood in battle during Roberts Rebellion. The Blackwood lord was so grateful that he pulled some strings and called in a few favors to grant the man some land. Creating the minor house of house Blacklocke.

He even says the gods gave him a reward for his loyalty, his new wife Lady Barbrey Ryswell. William fell head over heels for her and she for him, both quickly feel in love after only knowing each other for a few weeks.

Honestly would depend on how you do it. My custom house originates from the Targaryens and was legitimized, however they have been in place for several generations at this point.

My house has been in place since shortly after Aegon IV. There is no line of succession that puts them before Robert, who has a Targaryen Grandmother. My characters have grandparents with roots in the Vale.

I am leaning towards the Targaryens due to ancestral blood ties, but at the same time, the real hope for them lies with Rhaegar coming to his senses.
