And with that, the Falmer started walking. Just like that. Beautiful. Giving herself a little pat on her back in her mind, Raynila too got moving, a hand on the hilt of her blade as she quickly rejoined the Snow Elf, taking on the same pace as her. She placed a hand on the other's shoulder for a short moment, carefully trying to turn Lilyarel just a little so as to try and get her to move in the actual, right direction that they were going - that being Sentinel, and most definitely not Taneth. That city was clearly at risk of being attacked and, even worse, a stronghold for Dominion spies, apparently. The Dunmer wasn't going to have that filth get their hands on a live, actual Snow Elf, no no. Who even knew as to what nefarious things they'd do with one of those? Nothing good, she reckoned, especially with the rather reasonable allegations of the Altmer being so obsessed with 'purity' that they'd kill nine out of ten of their newborn babes - no, them getting their hands on some sort of ancient Elf wasn't going to end up in anything even remotely pleasant. Not for the Empire, and not for that poor, blind woman, either. Raynila raised an eyebrow at that. Was she starting to feel sorry for the Falmer? Perhaps she was.

"Say," she addressed Lilyaerl in Altmeris, still walking, "how about I go and sing some songs I remember from my youth? Something different than people constantly asking questions about... well, you. Or I suppose you can ask me about... anything, really. I'm sure you have plenty of questions, yourself." The Dunmer nodded, humming softly as she waited for the Falmer's response, continuing to follow the road to the west, regardless of who'd decide on following them or not. She had escaped prison, and she was taking an ancient elf as far away from Dominion hands as she could, while also keeping an eye on the mysterious woman. So far, so good, right?

For hours the group had already walked through the road, behind them were hundreds of other refugees. But it was decided that the group would head for Sentinel. The road however, went right through the city of Taneth. Calia sighed as the Dunmer attempted to take her away from her. Calia was quick to reply, ''As if I'm the only foreign spy here. Guess what, you are too! You love being slaves to the Atmorans do you?, how's it like cleaning the toilet of the Human Emperor huh?''. The Aldmeri Dominion seeks to unite all of merkind, and if they loose this Falmer to the Imperials, it would be catastrophic to the morale of the Dominion. ''Raynila, excuse me. Why are you so intent on bringing this poor Falmer to Sentinel? It's far away, It's also near water. Why not rest for tonight in Taneth? Are you willing to let this poor mer be exhausted? Let her rest for Auri-El's sake!''

Calia then pointed at Taneth and said, ''Like it or not, but we're heading to Taneth for today and get some well-earned rest. Then, we'll head for Sentinel.''

Just as I was getting on my horse, I noticed to the distance a long line of moving, black dots. Some with horses, some with carts, but all of them were walking slowly. Refugees. Probably coming out of Rihad. There was no time for me to stay. I filled my bota bag with water, got all my gear and got on the horse that I just befriended. No saddle meant I'd have to ride more carefully. The Bosmer, however - well, he's been friendly so far even for a foreigner. I wouldn't mind if he were to tag along, but if he were to slow me down I'd have to ride off without him. "The refugees are piling out of Rihad. I need to ride. Riding out any later means getting bogged down by cities trying to accommodate thousands of refugees." Tall Papa witness me, I need to get to Sentinel - I will get to Sentinel. Crown or Forebear, all of Hammerfell needs to unite against whoever the invaders are. May He bless this horse with strength, speed and endurance for the journey ahead.

"Well it's not like I have a lot of gear or even a saddle to put more weight on the horse with. Unfortunately I only have a couple of full waterskins and a lot of arrows," Killian said, as he rode his horse steadily up to be right beside the other ex-prisoner on his horse, as he also observed the line of refugees. "Like an orc bandit I used to know said before he fell off a horse and broke four ribs and both bones in one of his forearms: 'May my steed's swift hooves turn this hot sand to glass.'"

"Blah, blah, blah, blah. Your driveling on is getting quite tiresome, Altmer. I'd advise you to keep your dream of snapping the neck of every little child's neck because they don't have pointy ears to yourself. What's it like fantasizing about the past and how things used to be so much better back then? Fancy another trip back there with Numidium? I am a patient woman. Some of our travelling companions, less so. I won't stop them if they've decided they have had enough of your constant blabbering. I'd suggest you keep that in mind, you Netch fart." Raynila shook her head, gently leading Lilyarel on. She let out a sigh, finding herself having to respond to the Altmer again.

"I already said. Chances are Taneth will come under attack soon enough as well. I don't want that. Nor do I want to give you and your friends the opportunity to slit the throat of everyone but the Snow Elf, and nor do I want to get stuck in a large city filled with refugees from Taneth. If we want to stay ahead of all those refugees, we continue to move for a few hours before getting some rest outside and away from the city, before we continue on to Sentinel, which has to be the most well-defended city in the province. Safest place for anyone to be here. Of course, if you prefer, I could take us all to Cyrodiil instead?" The Dunmer let out a sigh again. "And I won't take no for an answer. At this rate, I'm going to have to petition the New Temple in Morrowind to have you added to the House of Troubles very soon indeed."

I was swearing in my head the whole time I was thinking about doing this - but I had to do it. I couldn't ride with an unarmed Bosmer, he would only be a liability should the need ever arise for us to fight. Without saying a word, I unstrapped my dagger and flung it at the guy in the horse next to me. "I can't have you unarmed." He seemed trustworthy enough, but he was still a Bosmer. I can't keep my eye off him. "I hope you know how to ride, because the Alik'r are born on saddles. We have to get to the front of the trail of refugees before they reach Taneth. They don't care much for race, so you should be fine if you want to stay in Taneth, but-" Tu'whacca forgive me! Tall Papa forgive me! "-I wouldn't advise it. I'd advise you stick with me until we reach Sentinel. The King needs to know about this."

I know it's basically heresy for a Crown, but this Bosmer is the only man I can trust that isn't either dead or dying in a street in Rihad or in a black market somewhere in Dragonstar. I can't do this alone.

"I don't usually trust people so easily, but I'm still whiffing the kinda air you breathe when you're on death row, and my head's fuzzy. I might as well ride with you to Sentinel. And thanks for the dagger. I'll probably only use it to cut up dead animals or big hairy desert spiders for food rather than for combat. If I'm close enough to need a dagger, I did something wrong. Now, let's be off."

This Dunmer spy outwitted her. It was very frustrating for Calia. Calia had to inform the Thalmor about the Falmer's existence and the attack in Rihad but if they were to head straight to Sentinel, it would take days more to do so! Calia blocked the group and said; ''Give me an hour or two, I have to get the rest of my supplies in Taneth. Just wait for me outside the city's northern gate.''

With that, Calia left and ran towards the city. It was surprising really. The city was still calm and then she realized that they were the first survivors to reach the city. She immediately ran towards the southern walls and looked for a medium-sized inn that was controlled by the Thalmor. After running past several alleyways she finally saw the inn; ''Dunerust Inn'' as it was called. Outside the inn, a Redguard stood. He was a mercenary hired by the Thalmor. The imposing guard recognized her and let her in. Now, the inn was very strange. Most of it's customers were elves, Khajiit and other beastfolk save for the few Redguard mercs on guard duty. Calia saw Dra'hani and talked to him.

''Calia? Is that you? Weren't you caught by them?'' Dra'hani was surprised to see Calia.

''They did, but I'm free now. Rihad is in ruins, we've got to warn Alinor and alert the entire Dominion navy against this new threat. I'm heading towards the Sentinel site.'' she said trying to catch her breath.

''But the Sentinel site is the most dangerous one! I was stationed there for four months and it was like hell trying to fool Alik'r counterspies. You should head to the Hegathe site or best, go home.'' Dra'hani said.

''I won't go home. I have a Snow Elf to assist.''

Dra'hani was shocked, and said ''Snow Elves? Falmer? I have to relay this to Alinor then. You should go now and head for Sentinel as fast as you can. I'll be activating the evacuation protocols for the Taneth site. I'll meet you in Sentinel once we've moved farther north.''

With that, Calia went out and ran like hell to get to the Northern gate.

On the road to Sentinel

And off we went. With the glaring afternoon sun behind us and a stream of slow-moving refugees in a column directly ahead of us, we rode on. Not too fast, for the horses might tire easy, but definitely faster than a trot. To see the sullen faces of fellow Redguards next to me was depressing. May Tall Papa guide them and may Sep not take their spirits. My companion rode on behind me. Being unfamiliar with the desert, I didn't blame him. And with a stream of Redguards right next to me, I felt assured enough with the knowledge that I wouldn't have an arrow or a knife in my back anytime soon.

With the dust behind us, the sun to our right, the coast to our left and Taneth ahead of us, it was only a matter of time before we caught up to the head of the column.

"I'd wager none of my ancestors would accept this kind of violence. My great grandfather would have died to prevent waves of refugees like this. I don't understand it. Who would attack Hammerfell? Who has the means to take an entire city of Redguards so swiftly? My great grandfather knew his enemy, for he was once part of his enemy's armies. But I cannot even fathom who committed this, much less muster with any ole army that comes around and strike back hard like my great grandfather did. The only fighting prowess I can boast of is helping to hold up caravans of unarmed merchants."

The heat of the desert was beginning to take it's toll on me as we along the road to Sentinel. Although my shoulder was now beginning to heal thanks to the Larus and, much to my surprise, the Dominion spy, that didn't mean it still wasn't painful to walk for so long with all of my gear on as well. So for most of the journey I had stayed silent, choosing instead to curse my luck inside my head. Had I known what this damned desert would have had in store for me, I would've chosen to go with the Legion instead.

At least there I would've known who was foe and who was enemy, I thought as I eyed the Dominion spy. While her generosity earlier was appreciated, that didn't make me any less suspicious of what she had planned. In all honestly, I thought that what had occurred was still the work of the Dominion given the circumstances, and now with this elf that shouldn't even exist...I shook my head, deciding to drop the subject for now.

Glancing ahead, I noticed the streams of refugees making their way along the roads. I pitied them, however neither did I wish to try and help these people. I had had enough of this place, and I would be damned if I were to get stuck in a conflict in this damn desert. Once I had the chance, I would once more return to Skyrim where I could rethink what I wanted to do with my life.

However, it seemed like that would have to wait, as once again the Dominion dog decided to show her true colors by making a blatant excuse to go into Taneth. I had no doubts that her real reason was to report to her masters, but I didn't see any point on stopping her, at least not yet. Instead, I glanced over to Raynila.

"You know, maybe leaving her behind wouldn't be the worst idea we've had today."

The others gave me a harsh look after that, which I replied with a shrug.

"I'm just saying, she's a puppet of the Dominion, and if it's one thing I know as a Nord, it's never a good idea to trust a Dominion dog."

There was a lot of talking. A lot. She didn't understand much of it, not that she cared particularly to listen. It sounded like squabbling, and if she'd learned anything in her brief time with this group, that would be frequent. They were peddling competing narratives, it seemed, and so she could only imagine arguing would be frequent. The blind elf certainly hoped that her suspicions were wrong, but all the same she felt a twinge of pessimistic thought nagging her brain. Perhaps, with time, she'd see that they were all perfectly fine and were simple going through troubling times. For what other reason could the two conflicting ideologies seem to band together for a common cause?

The so-called Dwemer returned to her side soon enough. "So..." she said simply, "How is the outside doing? How are the Ayleids? That other woman said that the Atmorans had done what they did to us...is that true? I-I'm sorry, I've just got a lot to ask about..." she took a deep breath. It was kind of dusty, but extraordinarily fresh, "This all."

Raynila shrugged lightly at the Nord's comment, having watched Calia run off towards Taneth's gates. She sat down, dusting off her legs from the desert sands. "Not the worst idea by far, no." She gave a nod, in agreement with the man. "An even better idea would've been to follow her inside of town, and to then quickly rat them out to the local authorities before heading off again, but it's too late for that now." She took her good old flask of sujamma in her hands, emptying it of its contents before putting it back. "Good to get at least some rest for an hour or two. Walking all the time is bound to make my legs sore. If she's not back in... about an hour, we'll leave. If she's back with supplies, good, we get some fresh supplies to take from her. If she's back with a bunch of thugs, good, we get to kill some Dominion dogs. It's a win-win."

The Dunmer shook her head slowly, snickering. "No need to remind a Dunmer that you can't trust them, Nord. The Velothi people that left the Summerset Isles for Morrowind didn't do so out of love for their Altmeri brethren, after all."

She perked an eyebrow as she heard the Snow Elf speak, turning slightly on the rock she was using for a seat to address her, in Altmeris is before. "You've been gone for a very long time, haven't you? They've been gone for ages, now." Raynila paused for a brief moment, thinking on how to continue. "Like the Dwemer, the Ayleid kept slaves. A lot of them, even, except these were humans. To the Ayleid, torture was an art. Eventually, some of their slaves revolted in Cyrodiil. Their rebellion grew, and they even received help from the Divines themselves - or so they say. The Ayleid of Cyrodiil were destroyed, and those that lived to see their civilization fall fled. A similar revolt took place far up in High Rock, if that name means anything to you, and the Ayleid people were eventually lost to history. They're all dead now." She nodded to herself. "The Slave Rebellion that had defeated the Ayleid formed an Empire, centered in Cyrodiil. Two more Empires followed from that place, and the Third one is still here, fighting against the Aldmeri Dominion of the Altmer people that seek to destroy anything that isn't like them. It's why I'm here, working for this Empire. I don't worship the same gods as them, and my skin isn't yellow like theirs. I'd like not being killed or enslaved simply because I'm different - something I'm sure you can well understand."

Satisfied with her own response to the Snow Elf's question, Raynila looked around for a moment, resting her arms on her knees. "If there's any other questions you have, you need but ask. I know a thing or two about all the events that have happened between... well, a long time ago, and now."

And interestingly, I have elven blood too. Some mixes and matches in my ancestors time. " Larus pulled a bottle of Nord Mead out of his bag. "Anyone wants some good ole Nordic Mead? Want to try it, Lilyarel?" he offers it at her. "And I still have many food here. If anyone wanted to eat. Cheese, dried meat and bread. Hungry again?"

"An elf?" Avik asked in a more whimsical tone. He was usually not one to speak in such a manner.

"Yes an elf, a spy at that." I retorted. He just smirked, he knew what were were suppose to do with spies. We hard orders however to grab them alive so we couldn't indulge ourselves on the slaughtering of knife ears. One was a Dark Elf who had links to the empire, the other a High Elf with the Dominion. The notice had gone out all units in the Hammerfell army as well as the various guard units, after the raid of Rihad various prisoners were allowed to escape and roam the countryside. Thankfully the kings of the surrounding cities figured as much. Me and Avik patrolled close to the streets on the hills over looking the roads, we kept our voices low and ourselves out of sight as we stalked besides the roads.

"So you think the Sheppard is right?" Avik asked again.

"No idea, but he says he saw someone that looked like an elf come by this way."

"Thats all the evidence we have?"

"It's worth looking at."

"I suppose you are right."

We kept our pace, hoping to catch an eye of this elf. We stopped for a second, just outside the city walls stood a group of peoplestandimg about, being as most groups would. I looked over to Avik and nodded at him, we made our way onto the road giving no more consciousness to the concept of stealth, they didn't looked armed and if they were we'd be sorely out numbered if we pounced on them. It be best to approach more naturally and get an understanding of the group and the situation from there.

"Excuse me, Razelan at-Voshek, Naqeeb of the Army of Hammerfell. I asked the group as me and Avik slowlybstarted to approach them, my sword sheathed but my hand resting in the pommel.

"Excuse me, Razelan at-Voshek, Naqeeb of the Army of Hammerfell. We've been patrolling the roads since the incident of Rojas and we're wondering if you had anything reguarding a series of escaped prisoners."

Well, B'vekh. Redguard soldiers, looking for prisoners. Escaped prisoners. Technically, that wasn't them - they'd been let out, after all, right? Then again, that probably wouldn't really matter to them all that much. Right. No. Raynila stood up, spreading her arms as she did, approaching the two Redguard fellows that were addressing them. "Sera! How great it is of you to come here, to make sure we are safe! You wouldn't believe how worried I've been ever since escaping that... the destruction at Rihad! It was horrible, sera, horrible! And... escaped prisoners, you say?" She glanced at the others for but a brief moment, before giving a bow in the direction of the guards.

"Allow me to introduce myself! I am Vendrela Rendo, trader of alchemical goods, and a part-time writer! My stock got burned in Rihad, I fear... Or well, I assume as much. Had to run, after all! That over there..." She gestured at Teldryn, the Telvanni, "...is my assistant! Or, well... He'd rather I don't call him that, but well, you know... Master enchanter he is, though!" She nodded, before pointing with a finger at Lilyarel. "And that is... Well, she's my assistant as well, but a few experiments some Telvanni mage did on her went wrong not too long ago, and she's been in a bit of a state since then. All these things going on in Rihad haven't exactly helped much, either! All my goods, all of my writings, gone! It is horrible, sera, truly. Absolutely horrible!"

She frowned, shaking her head a little. "As for these other gents, they joined us on the road. Best to stick together to stay safe when travelling and running from... whoever did what happened at Rihad, after all." Raynila looked up. "Do you know who attacked Rihad? I'd rather not do any business with anyone associated with those people in the future."

The Nord look warily at distance. "Isn't this too risky?" He wore his helmet again. Hopefully they won't know who are we. he picked his shield. Securing his helmet, he turns to Ragnar. "Try not to cause a fight. Situation a bit too risky" he grunts and approached Lilyarel. "Two city guard approach. I'll stay near you and try to translate what they said. "They're Redguard soldiers, patrols. Looking for escapee. Which is us all." Larus grins. "Hopefully Raynila have something useful to speak..."

Larus frowns when he heard what Ray...Vendrela Rendo said. "Well, Raynila basically tell the guards that her name is Vendrela Rendo, the Telvanni guy there is her assistant, and you're another assistant that got accident. Victim of Telvanni experiment, basically" he speak slowly and low enough, but just enough to be heard by Lilyarel.
