The World

The world as we now it died nearly a thousand years ago. The cause of the collapse of our modern civilization is shrouded in myth and legend, the silent ruins of a bygone age keep there secrets from the new world that has risen in its ashes. Out of the death and ruin mankind has crawled, the ways of the old world lost. Slowly the human race and picked up the peaces and has rebuilt civilization.

Across Europe an empire has risen. Out of the west its power stretches from the misty Isle of Britannia to the planes of central Europe and from the arid lands of Iberia to the frozen north. The Western Empire as it is called stands as the most powerful nation in the western world, its armies legion. No were in Europe is the influence of the Empire is not felt. Yet under this veneer of invincibility is a web of lies, betrayal and power grabs as the families who rule over vast swaths of the Empire all try to gain power for themselves. The only thing keeping the noble families from ripping the land asunder is the might of the Emperor.

But the strength of the Imperial throne is faltering, Emperor Gaus the first of his name lays on his death bead, his twin sons both lust for the throne. In the north the sound of steel on grindstones can be heard as the Nords ready for war to drive the Empire from the north and across the thin strip of water separating Iberia from Africa the armies of the True Faith are gathering.

A time of war is coming. Swords will be bared and the earth will drink the blood of the slain. Will you lead your house through these troubled times? Will you rise to glory or sink in shame? Will you triumph over you enemies, or will you be the one with you head on a pike? Whatever befalls will ultimately be up to you and the cruel hand of fate.

What is this?

To be put simply this RP is a based off of CK2 and the mod After the End to some extent along with Game of Thrones for good measure. You as a player will take control of a noble house, Great or Minor in the Western Empire. For better or worse your actions will guide the course of history for Western Europe.

Religion is once more on of the single most important driving factor in people's lives. Religion is used to explain the way the rains come and to give justification to the wars of kings and lords. The world is dominated by five distinct religions.

The Faith of Three: According to the Faith of Three God is at once a single deity and is also three different aspects. There is the Father, the Father is the aspect of god who created the world and passes judgment on the dead. The Father is also the one whom the faithful pray to. There is the Son who defends the dead during their judgment and is the conduit by which the faithful's prayers reach the Father. The Son also gives the righteous the fruits of their labour when the enter the Divine Realm. The third aspect of God is the Spirit. The Spirit acts as a guide to the faithful, and as a spiritual protector to those who believe in the Three.

There is another side to the Faith of Three, and that is the Darkness, an idea that is also shared by the Faith of One and the True Way. The Darkness is a bieng who lives beyond this physical plain and seeks to bring ruin to all of creation. He works within the shadows, whispering false promises to those with itching ears. The Darkness is the eternal enemy, he who will one day come a device the kings of the earth to rebel aganst God and usher in the last days.

The Faith of One: The Faith of One is closely related to the Faith the Three in that it believes in a single God and shares a belief in the Darkness. However the Faith of One does not teach that God is in three aspects, instead the believe the God is in complete control of all things. However the Faith of One also teaches that at times God will promote men and women to be his champion aganst the Darkness.

These champions are known as Saints and are given near deification by the faithful. Saints are prayed to much like those of the Faith if Three pray to the Father, saints are looked to as guides as much as the Spirit is. Saints are also given power over natural phenomena such as storms and the fertility of the soil.It believed that in the last days the Saints will come down and save humanity from the Darkness.

The True Way: Calling itself the only true faith for humanity, the True Way fallows the teachings of a man from the Old Days called the Prophet. It is said that the Prophet was taken up to heaven by God himself and thought a new way for humanity.

Practitioners of the True Way hold that bodily cleanliness, prayer, and pilgrimage as well as spreading the Way to all humanity is the only way to achieve both everlasting life and and corporeal happiness. The True Way requires its faithful to pray three times a day and to wash there hands and feet daily. Pilgrimages are to made at least once in ones life time, these travelers often take the faithful to the resting places of various figures who were close the the Prophet and who spread the True Way.

The Old Way A pagan faith that holds most of norther Europe under its sway. The Old Way is different in the different areas it is prevalent in. In North Pruban, the North, and in Nordland it reassembles the old Norse faith. The Old Way claims to be the oldest faith of men, hailing back before the Ancient Men fell.

The Sky Cult The Sky Cult dominates the steppe and the plains of the Krain. The Sky Cults greatest deity is the Sky God who created the world and spreads his shield across the sky to protect the world from the Darkness of the Outside.

Rules
Be civil to one another.

Co-Ops are to be respected, they may accept and deny apps as fit.

Only one house peer person. There are no exceptions.

This is not an RP about conquest, this is an RP about people and there interactions. Treat it as such.

You may app as independant nation, however I will judge those apps heavier.

For Your Consideration
All nobles houses will use the same app. Remember,
Holders can not take more than 20 percent of a holding levey for there personal armies. Remember that this is pretty much the middle ages, this will effect how you RP.

People playing outside of the empire will have to provide a history for there chosen nation, keep it reasonable and fitting for the RP same goes for the number of troops you may raise.

House History: House Montfort of Angeland is a Great House of the Empire, dating back to the time in which the Anglesaxons ruled the entire island. The King of Angeland challenge the scotsmen and got a share of Northumbria after a short period of conflict, not content with that the king started the invasion of the Scottish lands in the name of the empire. In the battle, that became known as the Field of Fire,the King incinerated the survivours of the first invasion, the extermination of the Scotsmen was the first policy before building settlements in the region as a method of colonization.

Captain Paul Poincaré, later in life.
The "Boucliers Tonnerre", though they were not yet known by that name, was first created by a levy of the Lord Cecile of the minor House Chaufourier with the express purpose of engaging bandit forces which were plaguing the man’s crops and wineries, which were plentiful in the region of Normandie and bringing that Lord a good deal of money. As archers, often with light hunting bows, the Red Company would fire from short distance against incoming enemy cavalry, startling or outright killing horses before rushing the downed men with dirks and arming swords. Their name was, at the time, a simple thing of convenience; madder was beautifully cheap and such dye was readily available. And so, they would be the Red Company. As creation stories go it is not the most interesting.

However, in the many years following this, issues arose. In the Campaign of Roses, lead by Emperor Luke IIXX, Lord Cecile would lead his Red Company into battle. The chosen enemy was, of course, the great joys of the lands of modern Plock, an area known for it’s sullen forests and bastard children of such woods. In the first pitched battle, the Battle of Chalder River, the enemy rushed the formation, which had gone-ahead of the main force of the Emperor as a scouting party, the enemy attacked. The Red Company, which numbers some 200 at the time, had received no word from their cavalry scouts, and stood at the height of a small hill, overlooking the woods. The enemy rushed from such woods, throwing their vicious axes and being armed with, other than that, battle-spears and bare chests.

While this method of the enemy was not well-suited towards fighting archers, it most certainly took the Red Company by surprise. Before the first volley was fired, Lord Cecile would be dead from throwing axe, command rapidly falling towards a young Captain, Paul Poincaré. Quickly rallying his troops, the enemy fading-away just as rapidly, the young man would find it better to stay at his ‘post’. After all, those couriers sent back, to inform the Emperor of their predicament, died rather brutally in their journeys, the bodies hung from the treeline.

And so, the Red Company would dig-in to their position, constructing trenches and laying-out quantities of defensive barriers to slow enemy advances. They would be rapidly met with the main enemy force, numbering some 6,000 with a large retinue
of veteran warriors, men with imported steel and equipment, men who were used
to the rigors of bastard warfare. These men would form themselves up quickly,
the most armored warriors on the outer shell, and hurl themselves at the impeding
position towards their progress with all possible speed.

As a result, the line would be broken, the Red Company fighting until they numbered just a hundred. The barriers aided their survival greatly, the trenches even more so, and after the Battle of Chalder River the hill was coated in blood. It was most certainly not a victory, but it was most certainly not a defeat. The enemy, noticing their substantial losses and the oncoming horde of the Emperor, left for the woods, and Captain Poincaré, who survived with major wounds, would have his Red Company be placed under the control of the Imperial House itself, the Company being lauded with the name "Boucliers Tonnerre", or Thundering Shields, for all the greater noise and defense of the hill they had made.

Since that time, with the aid of money, service to the Crown, and blood spilt on foreign battlefields, the Red Company has been transformed into a unit of heavy troops, men trained to hold the line and kill the blue-bloods riding into the fray. They’ve become, in some ways, a sort of Royal Guard for House Gerdoux.

Arbalest
Armed with an arbalest, or heavy crossbow often suited for siege warfare, the Arbalest is designed for one thing and one thing only; to hold the line. With the belief in-hand that the best defense is a strong position and the belief that the shovel will bring this position, this soldier is fully capable of digging a trench, laying-down spike-holes forward of the manned lines, and for crewing said lines with a stalwart sense. These troops are clad in plate armor, normally of the Normandie pattern, along with helmets, often of the Kettle hat pattern.
Harcèère
Armed with a light crossbow, due to a recognition that the arbalest’s rate of fire would have some issues in the more intense and fast-paced sort of combat one would be expected to see, the Harcèère is intended to supplant their heavier brethren with a rate of fire from light or hunting crossbows which still have the penetrating power to ignore chainmail or lighter pieces of metal. These troops are clad in chainmail, often with the addition of breastplates, along with a Kettle hat helmet.
Bouclier
Armed with heavy shield and mace, the Bouclier is meant for a simple task; they are to defend Arbalests and Harcèères if the enemy should become far too close. Towards this task they are armored heavily in plate armor and enclosed helmets and are among the more elite troops of the Empire. Often they can also be seen with boar spear, a worthy addition in their arsenal.
Hussard
A light scout, the Hussard is armed with, often, a light spear, shield, and a retinue of javelins. With the purpose of scouting, along with harassment, the Hussard is one who prides himself on mobility about the land, often not about the battlefield. While otherwise unemployed, they might find themselves used as light infantry or auxiliary, foraging areas or aiding in the escort of surveyors and navvies for the construction of camps. While on the battlefield the Hussard will find himself used in an anti-cavalry role, disrupting enemy charges with javelins and protecting and exposed flanks of the Company.
Chevalier
A heavy cavalry unit armed with a lance and shield, the Chevalier is a rare unit in the Red Company. Created, or rather employed, due to the recognition of the need for fast cavalry in the exploitation of enemy failures, the Chevalier is a quite expensive unit. Their armor consists of chainmail with some plate, along with a helm, and their horses are coated in chainmail.

Claims and Titles Viceroyalty of Grenada, Suzerain of the Great Houses, and Patriarch of House El-Andul.
House History: Grenada is a land of much complexity with heavy summers, and drenching winters. The heat is as much a part of the land is along with its torrential rain storms. Woodlands adapted to the long dry summers, and strength of what farmable land there is have made people here rather hardy. From this land have come six great houses that rule their perspective lands, and have mostly kept the peace using a pact. This pact forces the children of the current ruler of each house to fight for the right to lead. Some keep the more traditional fight to the death while others have lessened such requirements.

The winners of course will have the heir to the viceroyalty chosen by a second round of combat. 800 years ago this pact sealed the fact of Grenada, and has kept it intact since. Of course outside forces have always conspired to take Grenada, and failed each time. To many this empire is not worth the time of the Grenadians, but rather than face obliteration they chose to allow them in for a price. The taxes paid by those crossing into the viceroyalty help keep many projects afloat. The Grenadians care little for the imperial politics at the capital or there struggles.

Instead they care for the potential threat in the south with the followers of the true way. They have adopted some practices of that faith partially due to cultural exchange, and as a result tend to be focused heavily on hygienic behaviors. With the empire beginning to fail it seems clear to many that a breakaway must be performed. Yet the current Viceroy is loyal if only in some small manners at the moment. This house has had a long storied history, and perhaps one too long for those who want to know the short version.

Grenadian Culture:
* The Great Houses themselves are true political entities bonded not by blood only, but by ties, commitments, obligations, and duties. As such it is the duty of every women to produce children by any means necessary. Should their husbands be unable to do so they seek audiences with men in their court to perform the deed.
* Should husbands be unable to give children to their wives they are permitted to seek other men to do it for them instead.
* Both men, and women organize kidnapping parties to chase after their desired spouse. The more scandalous the affair is the better especially if the kidnapping is done during a wedding.
* Both men, and women can for a price be allowed to have multiple spouses.
* Eunuchs are the preferred type of servants in the courts of the great houses.
* Castration for service in the court is considered an honor by those in the lower classes.

* If the wife upon the death of her husband is beyond childbearing age she joins the sisterhood of the ash wives. Grey robed women who rub their face in ash, and handle giving rites to the dead, dying, and newborns. In their worship they can choose many ways to serve the three such as medicine or birth delivery. Upon death their bodies are burned as they become one with the cosmos.
* The Grenadians believe the god of three is a corporeal being made of matter, and so are humans, and all of existence. Therefore upon death our souls "die", and rejoin the three in a blissful sleep till an appointed day we can come back into existence. No matter what is done to a body the matter will always be there to allow resurrection.
*To Grenadians the natural world being part of the three view anything "supernatural" as part of the non material world, and thus tainted by the darkness. The Grenadians honor the natural world with dances, feasts, offerings, and much more. Death itself is nothing to fear, and sadness over it is the taint of the non material afflicting humans.
* Wars, and conflicts can be prevented by a series of tournaments to solve the core issue. Often these tournaments are bloody, and spectacular sights meant to show the cost of wars that could fragment the realm.

Pretty much Grenada is an expy of Islamic Spain with Hobbesian theology, and influences from Morrowind among many other areas. I have this idea for a set of theologians to debate whether the mind is divided into three parts each under a special influence by one of the three. Hell they already are viewed as heretics to begin with.

There may be some ruins, land mark that have already lasted a thousand years will most likely still be there. As for technology, yes, humanity has degenerated to a medieval state.
