Amaras considered the comment. "Maybe you really are serious about getting back on the right path, Alois. I didn't expect it."

"It would appear so Senator." Kramer responded.

"Maybe. But why would I search for your residence and then drive a fair distance to say what I've said to you today if I wasn't being truthful?" Kramer asked.

"The only way I can truly know that is if you keep your word," Amaras noted. "Which means I need to have faith in you. I don't like it, but maybe you'll surprise me," he smiled slightly.

And maybe, if you stick true, we'll have some mutually beneficial cooperation in the future. The young boy scurried over into the room and pulled open the front door for Kramer, intending to walk him out.

Rossi Apartment, Washington D.C.

"Right." Rossi said to herself after the termination of the call. Still vocalized, she quickly put out a torrent of thoughts turned to words. "Nomination, eight hours, preparations, invitations-invitations, yes-no, no, um, notification, family, family, only family, um, phone, phone, email, time, what time? She looked up. "Time, day, Monday, service....speech, um, dress...." she checked the clock a second time. "Eight hou-um, ok, yes.....shower, just, think, think, um, yes. Ahem." After clearing her own throat to an empty room, Rossi glanced around her kitchen once, as if it contained anything relevant to her situation, and then scurried out of the room to fetch a towel.

Just too Limited, ARCL fails in narrow vote
Image
Republican and Progressive effort fails on Democratic opposition, some in party defections
A surprise alliance between the far sides of the right and left surged forward yesterday in a dramatic proposal on the Senate floor that came within two votes of sending forward a Constitutional amendment that would have massively changed the American political landscape.

The Amendment, titled to "Restore Citizen Legislators" was sponsored by California Progressive Reginaldo Alphonsey and Iowa Tea Party Republican Peter Amaras with Senators Enchanted (P-OH) and Villanueva de Pena (R-NM) as cosponsors, though the hospitalized Villanueva de Pena was not in the chamber for the introduction of the amendment. The amendment would have set term limits of two terms on Senators and four on Representatives going forward, but significantly applied those same limits to incumbent Senators and Representatives, meaning that any member of Congress who had served enough terms to hit or go over the limit before the amendment was introduced would be barred from running for reelection. As reactions to the amendment quickly exploded this wrinkle in particular received attention. While some, including longtime Representative William Brennan attacked term limits as a concept, calling them "undemocratic" the lack of grandfathering in sitting members was criticized as a potentially power grab for the Progressives and Republicans sponsoring the bill. The 2016 elections brought in waves of freshmen Representatives to the House, overwhelmingly Republican and Progressive with the Democratic delegation extremely incumbent heavy which, combined with the 2018 Senate elections having a significant number of Democratic seats up with several in red states would lead to a disproportionate impact on the Democratic party by the bill. On the Senate Floor Minority Leader Allison (D-OR) who is the oldest and longest serving member of the Senate noted that all of the bill's sponsors were freshmen Senators who would have the longest terms available after the ending of incumbent terms and implied that the move was a cynical power grab by Amaras and Alphonsey. Representative Jared O'Leary (D-IL) alleged that the amendment had racial aspects to it, saying on Twitter that it disproportionately targeted African-American incumbents and favored largely white Republicans and Progressives.

The dividing line was drawn between Republicans and Progressives and Democrats when the final vote came, but not all kept to the party line. Senator Hadid of New Hampshire was the only one of the five Progressives to vote against the amendment, and a number of Republicans, several longtime incumbents voted against as well, with Senator Wilson of Wyoming who has feuded often with Amaras particularly opposed. Viewers on CSPAN were treated to an amusing sight as Senator Wilson (R-WY) v vf and the elderly Senator Kramer of Alabama began literally running around the Senate chamber in lobbying efforts as the vote neared an end. A video clip of the incident set to the Benny Hill theme has quickly gone viral on Youtube.

Though the amendment ultimately failed one potentially significant shift in the Senate power structure happened after the vote was done. Senator Hendricks of North Carolina, the only Democrat to vote for the amendment, released a statement expressing severe disappointment in the Democratic votes against the amendment and critical of Minority Leader Allison in particular and officially changing his party designation to Republican. Hendricks has voted against the majority of Democrats on several bills including POMA and the Balanced Budget Amendment and was up until a few months ago a Republican before changing to the Democratic party, and being appointed to the Senate vacancy left by the appointment of Donald Overstein to be Secretary of Veterans Affairs. The move increases the Republican majority in the Senate to 64, with Senator VIllanueva de Pena number 65 if able to return.

However, not all is necessarily looking up for the Republican caucus. An anonymous source in the Senate stated that the lack of an official party whip on the bill by Majority Leader Winslow, who later delivered an aggressive speech outside the Capitol attacking Democrats for defeating the amendment was a frustration to many Republicans in the caucus, as only two more Republican votes would have ensured its passage. Winslow returned to leadership just over one month ago after illness kept her sidelined for the early months of the new Congress and some doubts have bubbled up over her ability to manage the Republican majority effectively without Majority Whip Villanueva de Pena. The bill seemed to stir up old animosities between members of the party, particularly Senators Amaras and Wilson whose feud on Twitter after Wilson was praised for his vote by Rep. Johnson (D-RI) ended with Wilson publicly admitting to having voted against POMA as part of a deal to gather support for repealing the Dudley Tax. Wilson's partner in the deal was not named.

The close margin of defeat raises the question of whether another amendment might be attempted, either with the possible inclusion of a grandfather clause to placate Democrats who view the amendment as a political move or with a more concentrated whipping effort on both the Republican and Progressive sides. The return of Senator VIllanueva de Pena could be a major turning point for the bill and Gene Eric is predicted as a lock to win the Oklahoma special election, which puts an even bigger focus on the special election in Connecticut, with a Progressive or Republican win both potentially being critical in a possible second attempt, or the possibility of either Roberts or Singh adding a vote against, with most of the Republican votes against the bill coming from the Northeastern and East Coast states. TNS reached out to the Connecticut candidates for comment, with Roberts saying that the legislation was "stricter" than he would have liked, but that the "spirit of the legislation is correct and I would have voted in favor had I been in the Senate." *Singh called the Democratic votes against the amendment a "disgrace" and a "failure" by the party, and affirmed that he would vote in favor of the amendment if in the Senate. Schmidt did not return requests for comment.

Right values or wrongthink?

Bellinger-Frank EO sparks backlash and imitation

Washington state has been seen as the nexus of the American Progressive Party with Ellen Walton starting her run from her position as Mayor of Seattle and winning her highest vote margins in the state, even as the voters elected a Democrat, Edgar Brankers, to the Senate in a tight experimental three way election. In the Governors race the vote was all Progressive however and the winner of that election, former Seattle Deputy Major Jacob Bellinger Frank made a move yesterday bypassing the state's legislature to put a controversial Executive Order into place which has sparked a mix of backlash and support.

The order sets conditions on receiving state money for contractors, subsidized companies or other recipients, but not private individuals, setting a requirement that organizations sign on to a Washington "Statement of Values". The statement contains agreement with several "human rights" conditions including supporting the "right of a woman to make her own choices with her...pregnancy....to equal marriage....and to an end to discrimination on sexual or gender identity."

Early criticism ranged across party lines with Governor Williams (R-MS) saying the order was the consequences of "giving the gays an inch" and Senator Wilson (R-WY) saying that it would "force gay marriage down the throats of religious people" while Senator Fowler (R-VA) and Representative Anderson (R-PA) criticizing the bill on First Amendment grounds, Fowler adding that he would encourage "the courts to challenge it" and Anderson saying he would begin "crafting legislation" in response to perceived First Amendment violations. Democrats Edgar Brankers (D-WA) and Jason Samara (D-MA) joined in criticizing on freedom of expression grounds with Brankers saying it moved the state "in the wrong direction"

Bellinger Frank was very active in fighting back on Twitter calling Wilson a "neanderthal" , saying Williams's values were "hatred and oppression" and mocking Anderson for confusing the Governor and Senator Brankers. Frank also targeted Samara, the chair of the Progressive Caucus in the House for his opposition, saying that his party was a "corrupt joke."

Some support from the executive order would come from Frank's fellow Progressive Governors, with Governor Fairley of Oregon chiming in in support, calling Samara a "faux progressive" and Brankers a "wannabee Republican" while Colorado Governor Bill Denver called the attacks on Bellinger Frank, who is a married gay man, "homophobic", and announced he planned to introduce similar measures in Colorado.

Others would chime in on social media, with the senior Senator of the state, Joe Darnell, a Democrat, breaking from Brankers by praising the order. Representatives Johnson (D-RI), Yang (R-OR), and Brennan (R-CT) joined the side of criticism along with Sen. Prejean (R-LA).

Several critics of the bill criticized its Constitutional standing, with Senator Wilson stating he was looking into a lawsuit and filing one against Denver in Colorado, but Bellinger Frank expressed optimism that the bill would be upheld by the courts. When asked for comment by TNS he stated that "If they don't strike down WAC which is an abomination against the right to choose then they can't strike down this."

With promised responses from Republicans including lawsuits, Congressional legislation and a planned executive order by Governor Williams mandating a more conservative statement of value by signed to receive Mississippi funds, stay right with TNS for up to the minute coverage.

Hot topic, Pornography Tax Act narrowly passes after fiery debate
Image

A bill which could rub some Americans the wrong way was introduced and passed through the House of Representatives yesterday with the narrow passage of the "Pornographic Content Tax Act" through the House of Representatives. The bill was introduced by Rep. Rossi (R-IN), best known for her role in the prosecution of President Winston along with Amelia Yang (R-OR). The bill levied taxes on several different forms of sexual media including film, magazines, internet sites and strip clubs, which Rossi argued would reduce accessibility and help combat "societal ills"

In a combative questioning period Rossi was pressed with questions on whether she had ever used pornography by Rep. Walsh (R-MI), who said Rossi should be "ashamed" of herself alleging that she was comparing "victims of lung cancer to rapists" to which Rossi returned that Walsh should be ashamed for "turning a blind eye to....victims...in favor of....rhetorical gambits" Rossi was also criticized by several members of the Johnson Family, with Representatives calling her a "stupid girl", a "witch", "ugly", and an "ugly witch" comments which Rep Anderson (R-PA) would later criticize out of order and feud with Rep Prazek (D-ME) on.

The questioning then turned to studies on the topic, with Reps Prazek and Yang contesting with Rossi on the scientific evidence or lack on the effects of pornography, with the feud between Prazek and Rossi turning to a more intense feud, with Prazek saying he didn't "see many bills out here that were written as badly as this one" and Rossi saying Prazek was "poorly positioned" to criticize due to grammar errors in his own legislation.

Rep. Smith made a line of questioning and criticism on arguing that the taxes would cause thousands of job losses among workers in the pornography industry while Rossi argued that increased scrutiny and lower profits would reduce sex trafficking, with the two conflicting over the level of sex trafficking in the industry and whether the bill was similar to prohibition.

The vote on the bill would be a narrow one with the divide mostly on partisan lines but with a large number of Republicans on opposition. Democrats as a bloc voted against the bill with more liberal Republicans split on passage, but broad, but not universal, support among more conservative members of the party were enough to bring the bill over the line with the help of some Progressive votes in favor on the left.

The bill's potential fate in the Senate, which has a smaller Republican majority but more conservative Democrats, in not certain, but a few Senators made their ideas clear, with Troy Wilson (R-WY) leading up the charge, accusing Nicole Smith of being a "porn lover" and saying that "The party of Jackson is now full of porn lovers" and calling the bill "one of the best pieces of legislation that has seen daylight in this Congress" while criticizing Donald Johnson for his comments on "sexual healing", which Johnson responded to by calling WIlson "the worst Senator to ever be elected" Senator McGareth (R-HI) tweeted out a comment on "knowing the feeling" of pornography use among lonely people, but said he no longer needed it because of relations with his "First Class" girlfriend. NYC Council member Casondra Torrisi, who would announce her candidacy for the special election for the New York Senate seat for the Progressive Party later that day criticized McGareth's tweet as "gross and disrespectful", while McGareth said Torrisi was "embarrassed" by the "tremendous love and respect" he had for his girlfriend, while Torrisi accused him of "objectifying" her.

The bill will be added to the Senate docket.

Play Ball! President Reed returns to mound for Presidential first pitch
Image

It was the one part of the Presidency that Calvin Reed could claim firsthand experience in, the ceremonial first pitch to start the MLB season thrown out by the President, and the former pitcher made his memorable. Reed had played for the Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies for nearly equal lengths of time during his career but rather than wearing the traditional Washington Nationals jersey or choosing one or the other wore a unique custom jersey showing combining both and split diagonally across the middle. In front of a sellout crowd the President, who was known for his fastball during his playing career threw a first pitch clocked at 106 mph before the game, but did not stay for the contest which the hometown Nationals won over the Miami Marlins 4 to 2.

After hearing Kramer’s car leave, Nicole walks around the bushes to the gate to the Amaras property. She attempts to open the gate, but it’s locked.

She signals to Jared and the man who had joined them to come to the gate.

A relatively quiet rolling sound became audible, that of the wheels of a pair of inline skates going over pavement at a quick speed as a near-ten-year-old-boy skated into view, helmet on his head and a hockey stick on the ground, as he pushed a ball ahead of him on the street, seeming not to be paying quite enough attention to potential traffic, though the road was otherwise fairly quiet. Snatching up the ball as he approached, he was surprised to see a strangers at the gate, and one a minority at that. Without recognition from his angle at first glance, he called out with the confidence of a child.

“Yes, Mr Harrison, these so called ‘Progressives’ are nothing more than Nazis!” He then do the lean to Harrison and begin to whisper. “I would recommend keeping an eye on that Representative Smith and O’Leary, keep them out of the leadership roles, they are basically the reincarnation of that Nazi hag Ellen Walton.” He then pulls away dramatically.

At first Harrison is confused how the can the the reincarnation of someone still alive but quickly decides that trying to understand a Johnson can't be healthy. "I'll do my best but I can't promise anything, I don't have complete control of committees, you have more influence there than I do."

"But Doctor" Harrison whispers while looking around suspiciously "I have a secret plan to fight the progressives and stop them from getting their claws further in the party. I want to share it with you."

Donald leaned into Harrison again.

“Please tell me Mr. Michael Harrison dearest friend, what is your plan.”

"Let me first check my office for listening devices, I check every morning but want to be extra safe", Harrison leans away and makes a show tossing his room over looking for listening devices for about ten minutes.

“Don’t worry Mr. Harrison, for I shall help you with this task.” Donald said as he stood up and walked over to Harrison’s desk and began to rip out drawers, damaging them in the process.
