Look at that fire! Voting for President Reed, legalizing high-capacity magazines, condemning blind progress and going even farther on Israel than I would have, Claudia Patton might be my favorite Democrat!

My record and my past statements make clear that I do not have a modicum of respect for the man who mocked a disabled cabinet nominee on national television, who is helping to overturn basic rights for our LGBT friends, who has slandered another Senator and accused him of Murder, and who has dedicated himself to being as despicable as possible while in office. I reject his backhanded pseudo-endorsement wholeheartedly.

There is some irony in Jared O'Leary's ignorance of Patton's support for LGBT rights, given that he equates me and my husband and millions of others to practioners of Incest just about every time the issue arises, much like Peter Amaras. #FoodForThought

That aside, Incest is not welcome inside of the LGBT community, and all you do by claiming it is is devalue a legitimate movement that you're not even a part of yourself. Grow up and don't speak for us again.

It's a simple principle of equality that the government has no right to criminalize relationships between consenting adults. It's a principle throughout the LGBTQ+ community that brought down the bans on miscegenation and sodomy and will continue on.

@OYeah

I believe in the sexual freedom and tolerance of that principle without reservation and with no contortions needed. and you can have fun with your own mental gymnastics for trying to say you are tolerant out of one side of your mouth and that sexual minorities are not welcome out of the other.

Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

While the political response in favor and in opposition to the recently-signed "BDS Eliminations" legislation in Maine has been heated, the discussion has been focused around the merits of the legislation and the accuracy of foreign policy claims.

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

A question which has not yet been posed is the question of the Constitutionality of the legislation, yet on a matter with clear First Amendment implications, such a question is critical.

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

The facts of the legislation are not difficult to discern. The bill clearly lays out the restriction in contracting, and the motivation, discriminating in contracting against organizations which participate in the BDS movement.

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

NAACP v. Claiborne Hardware Co. sets a clear precedent on the extension of First Amendment protections to boycotts, Stevens's opinion placing it at the "highest rung" of what he called the "hierarchy of First Amendment values."

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

Subsequent rulings, starting with First National Bank of Boston v. Bellotti have bequeathed such First Amendment protections onto organizations as well as individuals, which are the target of the law.

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

In certain contexts, however, often involving government, the Court has held that lesser scrutiny may be placed in assessing First Amendment claims.

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

Contracting, however, has not been held as one of these areas of exception, with O'Hare v. Northlake and Board v. Umbehr both striking down retributive actions against contractors on the basis of their political expression.

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

The recently-passed law would not limit its actions to those contractors that Maine presently works with, but all cases going forward. While its jurisprudence has largely been focused on the related First Amendment issue of press freedom, but the high barrier against such restraints (Nebraska Press Association v. Stuart) could see reference in such a case.

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

All said, given established precedent, presenting a case defending the Constitutionality of such a law would prove difficult. Previously decided cases have closed off lines of argument on conduct relative to speech, individuals relative to organizations, and the relative rights of contractors themselves.

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

Beyond the precedent on such restrictions in and of themselves, the aggressive political stance set forward in the bill, labeling and condemning as well as targeting BDS movements, could see some judges potentially apply what could be considered a modified variant of...

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

The first prong of the Lemon test, not in religious effect, but the question of motivation relative to government purpose (see Edwards v. Aguillard, and dissent.)

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

Such places a theoretical defense in a more difficult position, particularly given later partisan conflict, in asserting a compelling government interest over a subjective one.

Image
Anna Louisa Rossi
@INDistrict4Rep

All told, opinions and positions taken relative to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and situation have proved both varied and contentious, but that at the heart of the matter, the legislation spurring the debate, faces challenges separate from preference.

Celebrities tend to be born outside of California and outside of Hollywood. Some of these celebrities tend to grow up in southern countries which embraced the 2nd Amendment. Most citizens might head out of town to hunt and knowing that they are allowed to bring guns helps them with their hobbies in the woods, anyways. Lastly, even though this is a liberal city, most citizens want to, at least, feel safe at night so they have a handgun stashed away in their drawer or something."

"I know that not all Hollywood celebrities are liberal. I've even met some of the conservatives out there. But they are few and far between. And as for the people... you underestimate their distaste for guns. I remember when Tom Bradley was Mayor, there was a lot of gun control in his day, and the people stood with him. By the way, I also remember him promising to serve the city, and then dashing off to run for Governor instead. Don't repeat the mistakes of history, Cox. I speak from experience. Being a Republican in this state means walking a fine line. A very fine line. Especially in your situation, voters should know who you are and what you stand for. And even more importantly, voters should know how your beliefs are their beliefs. That's difficult to do if you are unclear in your words and actions."

"Where's Tom Bradley now? If you're trying to suggest that he failed to become Governor, then I wouldn't make the same mistakes he did. You do realize that the GOP party has a huge head start over the Democrats. The only way I can walk that thin line is if I convince the Democrats to be on our side. Because they know that there are only two choices and they know that they need to pick in. You already realize that I have some Democrat support, right?"

"So how about that later somewhere next month, we do some listening tours to see what the public of California wants. New York Public Library, Manhattan, New York

Braum was generating buzz. After filing to run for Mayor, she exited the public light for some time. This left the media to speculate on and discuss her candidacy, while her name and face entered the headlines once again. Quietly, "Braum for Mayor" posters were plastered on streetlights and crosswalks by her burgeoning campaign.

However, it was finally time for the true campaign kick-off. A crowd gathered on the front promenade of the New York Public Library, facing a podium at one end. Behind the podium was Kate Braum, the candidate. She waved to her supporters, who held up "Braum for Mayor" and "I'm with Her" signs and cheered. The crowd was mostly female.

"My boss, Mayor Beaumont, first brought me into his administration because of my reputation in the legal community as a problem solver. While we worked together, he saw my vision and my passion to serve. I answered his call, and the call of New York. As Mayor Beaumont righted the course of our great city, bringing back economic growth and safety to our streets, I played my part. I worked hard as Director of City Planning! Under my direction, we rebuilt the George Washington Bridge. We made things easier for small business vendors. We brought new schools to our most underprivileged neighborhoods. My work is not complete, but it's a start! Change begins in small ways."

There were some cheers.

"Like I said, Mayor Beaumont righted the course. But it's time to chart a new one. It's time to be bold and brash again- we're New Yorkers, it's in our DNA. I want to chart that course. I want to be your next Mayor."

There was more cheering.

"We are the greatest city on Earth, and I am going to make that clear to the world. As a woman in the legal field, I had to work to make my voice heard. If I wasn't offered a seat at the table- I took it. We are the epicenter of a 1.5 trillion dollar economy. We are the home of the United Nations. We are not just a municipality- we are a global force. As your mayor I will make that very clear. We will take a seat at the table with trade deals, international security, and climate change whether the world is ready or not."

There were more cheers.

"Just as we are a global economic force, we are also a force for change. This starts with a change in how we treat the earth. As Director of Planning, I worked to cut our use of alternative energy to almost 33%. As mayor, I will bring us to 50% or higher. I will also expand tax credits for compact, hybrid, and electric cars in the city. Progress is possible, and I envision a greener, brighter future for our children."

There was some applause.

"In an age when our values are under attack, we will hold the line, and build our social safety net. I will support funding Planned Parenthood and other similar organizations. In my vision for New York, we will have Pre-K education for all families. In my experience working in education, I have found that nothing benefits children and working families more. In my vision for New York, we will ensure that all New Yorkers are housed. Universal housing will be our ultimate goal, especially since there are the threats of gentrification and homelessness."

There was more applause.

"This city has always been a cut different from the rest of the nation, and the world. That's why it's time to build on our successes of the past to create a an ideal future. That is what I will do as mayor. I will be on the ballot for the Democratic, Liberal, Working Families, and Progressive primaries, as my goals for this city can be shared by anyone, regardless of partisan affiliation. Thanks New York!"

Even with Spring now officially having made its grand entrance, here, only a few score miles from the Canadian border, winter continued to hold on with a clinching grip, refusing to let the residents of the sparsely-populated county slip through its fingers into the warmer weather, which David was certainly more than ready for, as his entrance into his house was spoiled by an ill-timed bit of shifting snow on the roof powdering his short brown hair and broad shoulders just before he could cross the threshold.

He would typically stay a good deal later at the rigs, around this time of year rarely returning before nightfall, but on some days, things just either were running smoothly enough or quietly enough that he could not find much more to do out there, especially with budgets as tight as they were, and rather than wandering, he would make it back to the house, and turn towards some of the work on the more technical side of the proprietorship.

He found, though, that a letter had finally managed to finish its journey across the eastern half of the broad state that afternoon, and no pen-pal was this. Stoic as he intended to be, he felt some nerves at opening the envelope with the Governor's name on it, but snapped out a small knife, and did so smoothly, and on finishing his appraisal of it, turned to creating one of his own.

Governor,

I appreciate your response, and your understanding. From what I know of myself and my fellows, a direct write-off of the value owed to the federal government with recent legislation would be a fair balancing to what we have to handle, especially for those of us drawing our wells so close to the Dakotas and their own fields. I don't need to say what that kind of advantage would be for this state as a whole.

I cannot make guarantees about my brother, and cannot be his keeper, but I can promise the effort. If I know him, as I know him, I believe I can guard against or prevent the backlash you are concerned about, but recent times have been difficult for our family. I will do what I can, and I believe I can give you what you want, that shield, but I cannot make a promise I do not know I can keep.

Sincerely,

David Reed

"Are you sure it's not copyrighted?" Carson asked.

"It's about to be." Francis was oblivious to any similarities between the name of his new restaurant and a popular pizzeria chain.

Name "Pope John's" seemed to him like a perfect idea for a name of a fancy restaurant. Francis's new establishement had all he wanted: nice interior and exterior design, staff good at keeping secrets and being professional around famous and/or powerful people, tinted glass shielding his customers from unwarranted attention, but most importantly - souvenirs from his past including his papal tiara behind reinforced glass.

Last thing that was needed on the wall was a list of rules governing this establishement. Taking pictures, recording and videoing were all banned. The staff were informed and trained in enforcing the rules and ensuring privacy.

Francis's family's wealth allowed him to fund and upkeep all of this. Now he hoped to truly start off his restaurant by breaking it's privacy rules. He had his staff use their friendships and connections in the Capitol in order to hand out flyers promoting his restaurant among the numerous Congressmen and Senators working there on a daily basis.

Happy to crush socialism twice in one night, destroying Stansky on live television in front of millions of people, and raising money for St. Jude's to prove that charity beats government healthcare any day of the week! I'll proudly be adding $100,000 of my own money to the donation for the great work that they do.
