Having no children of her own, Sydney was naturally keen to look after her grandniece and grandnephew. Her grandniece, Elizabeth (or as her friends called her, Liz), was in her junior year of college. Normally Joseph would have visited (typically on a weekend), but with Sydney in the area, she thought she'd be a good great-aunt and check in on how she was doing.

At first, Cao was most likely expecting a calm and peaceful call from Cox or some more information on the governor election. However, Cox's call to Cao started with this. "Cao! Sydney's mood soured immediately. Cox wanted to throw a temper tantrum? So be it. She could no longer push away or ignore her feelings of contempt. "I stated a fact, Cox: your decision to withdraw guaranteed victory for a left-winger. It would have better for the party if you had stayed in the race. I'm starting to see that you have no idea what you really want. It would be one thing if you were merely indecisive, but your incoherent shamble of a speech at the fundraiser showed that you don't even understand the simple fact that you can't be mayor and governor at the same time. A child would know that, yet you don't? Now that I think of it, you've certainly shown that you can be as petulant and ungrateful as a child. And where would a child be without his nanny?
