"You need to test your blondes' stomachs along with their charms?" Aubrey chuckled at Josh's choice of destination. "Sounds like a bad evening if it ends with vomit on your suit, or slicking back your hair."

She turned to the waitress. "Water, please." she requested politely.

They went around the rest of the table, Katie ordered a water as well, Kyle ordered a Sapporo, Kristina had sake and Josh had a white wine-based cocktail with some sort of fancy name.

Kristina turned to the group and said, “this is cause for celebration! Because tonight, even if only for an hour, we were the number one cable news station in America!”

She then turned to Aubrey, “you see, it’s a big deal, because we can charge more for advertisements if our rating are good. And then, if we make enough money, we will be opening a DC bureau next month. Just a small office, but a place for our reporters to work out of when covering national politics. That’s why Katie and Kyle are here, we’re going to bring them on full-time, and have them start in DC!” Kristina then covered her mouth for a second, before looking at the shocked interns. “I guess I spilled the beans a little early, but I couldn’t help it. Welcome to the WNN team, for real this time.”

The two interns were speechless, with a very mixed reaction on their faces.

Feeling a bit bad, she decided to try and roll with it without addressing what he took issue with.

"Yes, it was abrupt. How about this, my personal number is (213)-446-1861. Write that down somewhere so you don't have to go through my office again." She said through the returning smile.

She paused a moment before continuing.

"You don't have to be so defensive James, I'm sure you're quite the professional." she teased.

“Sorry about that there...you know what I’m like,” remarked James, not even really sure what he meant by it. “I tell you what, I’ll come to you. After my interview I’ll rent a car and visit if that’s okay. I have the whole week, but I can visit you however short or long you would like. If that’s okay with you of course. Can you send me a text to my phone so I can keep your number?”

"Of course, I'll do that." she assured, putting it on speaker and sending the text while still on the call.

"I think it will be nice to see each other again." she said, before a sudden wave of agonizing guilt overcame her from nowhere. A lump formed in her throat.

"Just remember though James... Things are different now."

"See you then." She repeated, before hanging up and tossing her phone down on the couch beside her. She stared blankly at the wall for what seemed like hours trying to proccess everything, before she decided it was a better idea to just deal with it later. "I'm sure you'll be interviewing me someday." Aubrey offered in encouragement. A few moments after the sentence had left her mouth she saw the problems with it, namely that it implied either a very short timeline for their promotion, or an especially lengthy career for herself, as well as putting off more arrogance than she would have liked, but it had already been said.

"So, what is that you're drinking?" she asked Josh, looking to shift the subject from herself, at least, leaving the interns to Kristina if she desired. "I'm not sure I can even pronounce it."

“Bye Pen,” James said, before realizing she had already hung up the phone. He got up and dug into the box in the storage room that had the yearbook, and found some old photos. They weren’t in a photo album, that really wasn’t his thing. They were simply strewn about in the bottom of the box. Photos from Stanford, most of them either of Jimmy with his frat brothers or with Penelope. He sorted through them to get the ones with Penelope; photos of them on campus, at the Golden Gate Bridge, eating at a local Mexican place, on the pier in Santa Cruz, etc.

He took the photos out to the couch, where he sat, lit up a joint and drank a beer, and looked through the photos as a tear went down his cheek. Eventually, between the stress, the little bit of joy, and the substances, he fell to sleep on the couch, with the pictures scattered all around him.

Kristina turned to Katie and Kyle, “I mean, the jobs’ open if you want it. I just assumed you’d take it. I was going to offer it a little later in the evening.”

Katie said assuredly, “of course I’ll take it! Dream job!” She reached across the table to shake hands with Kristina.

Kyle, on the other hand, was uncertain. He simply said, “I’ll think about it.”

At this moment, the waitress brought out the drinks.

As Josh took the glass into his hand, he said it’s ingredients to Aubrey, “Prosecco, strawberry purée, vermouth, orange liqueur, mint, and lime juice. Normally they call it the Nihon kara no amai pinku no wain, but I order it with lime juice added, so they’ve started calling it “The Josh” when I order it.”

“So...Kristina huh? Quite the character. We lucked out with her though, she runs a good show.”

The Chase Report: featuring Guest Host Katherine Hobbes
And Special Guest Alaskan Candidate for House of Representatives James Miles Jr.

Image

Hobbes: "Good evening WNN, my name is Katharine Hobbes and today I'll be filling in for Kristina Chase. Today I have the honor of hosting a guest. With me in the studio, coming to us all the way from the great state of Alaska, candidate running for his state's only House seat is James Miles Jr. It's great having you here, James."

Miles: “And it’s great to be here with your Ms. Hobbes” He looks at the camera, “and great to be here with all of you watching from home. Let’s do this thing.”

Hobbes: "It's great to see you in good spirits. So, James, let's start off with an easy question - What label or term would you use to describe yourself?”

Miles: “I’m free. If there is any word I could use to describe myself, free would be it. I’m a free spirit, a free thinker, I’m an American blessed with God-given freedoms, I’m free from the corruption that so often plagues our political system, and I take advantage of the freedom I have while I’m alive. And I believe in maximizing that freedom for each and every American.”

Hobbes: "So just to make it clear - do you belive in God? You mentioned having God-given freedoms while also calling yourself a "free" thinker, a term fairly often used by non-religious people."

Miles: “I do believe in God. In my younger years, I explored other faiths, examining the truthfulness in each. I’ve spoke with monks, rabbis, atheists, spiritualists, the works. That’s what someone like me does, I listen to all opinions before making my own decision. And the evidence is clear: the God described in the Bible is real, based on spiritual testimony I have witnessed, philosophical arguments I have listened to, people consumed with the passion of the Christian faith I have encountered, scientific and logical evidence I have researched, and my own spiritual experiences. I am proud to say that I found God in 1995, and have been a born-again non-denominational Christian ever since.”

Hobbes "All right. I would like to go back to my first question. Now we know you're a god-beliveing free thinker, but how would you describe yourself when it comes to your political ideology? Are you a conservative, liberal, something in between?"

Miles: “Is it possible to answer all of the above and none of the above at the same time? Like I stated, I am for the maximization of individual freedom. Liberals have some good ideas for that, but conservatives do too. But does that make me moderate? I don’t know if it really does. People often describe me as libertarian, and when looking at my positions on paper that seems adequate. But I don’t associate myself with the libertarian movement of the recently deceased Libertarian Party. I guess a good way to describe my politics is ‘compassionate libertarian Republicanism’. I feel like over the millennia, authority has usurped our innate liberties. I seek to restore the natural balance of liberty and authority through a system where we care for our neighbor, but do so voluntarily. Where a Republican government represents our interests by restoring the freedoms that are innate in the human psyche. I’m a big follower of the non-aggression principle. Don’t hurt me and I won’t hurt you. As a lawyer, I believe in rule of law, but I also believe that we should strive for quality and not quantity in our lawmaking. Does that sum it up good enough?”

Hobbes: "You mentioned your career as a lawyer. I hope you don't mind if I talk about it a little and play the Devil's Advocate. When you were a lawyer in Montana one of the groups you fought against were mining companies, yet later on, after returning to Alaska you represented them and fought FOR their best interests. Some could say that it's hypocritical of you."

Miles: “That would only be hypocritical if one were to denounce either mining companies or environmental and worker’s safety groups as inherently evil. I don’t think that way. Both the group of miners whom I worked with in Libby and the companies I worked for in Alaska were kind, friendly people who respected me and paid me fairly, and in return I provided them with legal services so they could better present truthful facts in court. I was on the side of truth in both situations, so I find that consistent rather than hypocritical.”

Hobbes: "Speaking of environment, I have a couple of questions, but let me start off with one related to your personal history. Your family has greatly benefitted from oil industry. You yourself have spoken of the, and I'm paraphrasing, 'corruption plaguing our political system'. How can we know that you're one of us? How can we know that you're not a yet another lying politician backed by a bunch cynical lobbyists?"

Miles: “I’m going to be one-hundred-percent honest with you. I get the ‘son-of-an-oil-baron-trust-find-kid’ crap all the time. And it’s completely true. My father worked hard to provide an exceptional life for me. And he succeeded more than he could ever imagine. But that’s the American dream isn’t it?”

“But also being honest, the lobbyist and politician crowd hasn’t always been the most welcoming of me even if I wanted to join their ranks. I’m out-of-the-box, and they can’t stand that. In college, I may have been a political science/business school/law school guy, but most of my friends were acting majors, art majors, philosophy majors...you know, out-of-the-box artsy types. I’m an innovator and a creator, and that’s why I stood out enough to be the perfect candidate to swoop in and take over the Attorney General seat in Alaska. They needed new approaches to solving crime, and I delivered. And you wanna know what the best part of all that was? I got to come in and topple a corrupt Governor and reveal all the dirty dealings inside his administration. I love that.”

“The fact is, we are all presented with the choice to use our blessings for good or for evil. I may have been blessed with more than some, but my whole life I’ve chosen to use those blessings for good. My dad passed away in the late 1980’s, so keep in mind that my family hasn’t been in the oil industry for 30-plus years either. In fact, I honestly would have trouble naming one lobbyist that I even know. Trust me, I don’t have those kind of ties and I wouldn’t want them if they were offered to me.”

Hobbes: "Ok. So let's talk Congress. Imagine yourself, freshly sworn in as Alaska's sole Representative, it's your first day at the job. What now? What would be the first thing you'd try to accomplish in Congress?"

Miles: “Well I’d imagine I’d do what everybody does on their first day at a new job; try to get through the day without having a nervous breakdown and remember to not annoy your coworkers too much on the first day.”

“But honestly, if we’re talking legislation, the first thing I’d do is try to slash income tax rates. I’m from Alaska, so we see bloated dead whales sometimes. The federal government is one of those. A nasty rotting corpse of a bloated waste of space. Sorry for the disgusting metaphor by the way, but it helps my point. But the fact is, the federal government spends too much, takes in too much, and does too little with how much it has. So we must reduce its intake of funds, reduce its use of funds, and find more efficient ways to fund it. The Balanced Budget Amendment helps with the spending, but not so much on the end of efficiency or on ending federal theft of Americans’ income.”

Hobbes: "Speaking of dead whales - what's your opinion on whaling and the fishing industry in general? Do you think they should be regulated or should we leave these animals to will of the fishermen?"

Miles: “I’m a firm believer in the Stephens doctrine on the relation between economy and environment. That the free market is the most desirable outcome, but also that on the global scale, the value of a country is the value of its natural resources. Therefore, we must preserve those resources for future generations by enacting policies or agreements to make sure we have sustainable populations of fish and wildlife.”

“I really like the measures that were taken to restore Red Snapper populations in the Gulf of Mexico, because the government worked with the fishermen rather than against them, by instituting quotas that allowed the fishermen to sustain their business while still providing for the nearly completed regrowth of their populations. That’s an example of cooperation to assist the environment that I think Alaska and our entire country could learn from. Working together to build environmental solutions that businesses, government, and the people can agree on.”

Hobbes: "The producers are telling me that we're running out of time, so let me thank you for your time. It's been a pleasure to have you on this show."

Miles: "Thank you very much, can I say one last thing to our viewers out there?"

Hobbes: "Sure thing, you've been a good sport. Just keep it that way."

Miles: "I just wanted to remind everyone watching that we live in a very special time. We have more rights than ever, the technological advancements we have made are unthinkable, and we live in the freest country ever. We cannot regress into authoritarianism and collectivism, we must push forward into the destiny we are made to have. So love your neighbor, and make amends with the neighbor who you have wronged. Because we have a lot of work to do in society. And while you're at it, if you happen to be from the great state of Alaska, vote for me. Because I have a plan to help our country be the best it can be. Thanks for having me on Katherine, best of luck to you."

Hobbes: "Thank you very much. All I can do is wish you the same. I'm Katherine Hobbes and this has been a very special edition of the Chase Report."

"Lime juice? I didn't know they'd just let you buy that. I'll have to order that for myself directly some time. You can keep the other stuff."

Switching over to the topic of Kristina, Aubrey floated a question Josh's way after his comment. "Quite a character. So did you import her, or was this just a chance domestic pickup?"

Aubrey actually knew the answer to the question, she had done her homework on her interviewer before becoming an interviewee. Still, she was curious.

Today the left wingers of Congress decided that the American representative system was just too much of an inconvenience, having to listen to the voters and all. They decided today that since the President isn't left wing enough for their liking that it'd be better just to take that choice away from them.

Every single one of the speakers at this march today who are in Congress voted against Reed's bill that banned discrimination on sexual orientation for firearm licenses and permits. Every single one. It's great to see wrapped up in one how this is all a secondary issue to them how short their memories are and how good their capacity to smear is.

These are the same people who tried to shut down a charity food drive just to scream at me. Smith telling people to "Hug a Nazi" only fits the second half of the statement about how they describe everyone outside their own bubbles. With a keynote speaker who has the favorite
literary technique is Goebbels and Gestapo comparisons is anyone surprised?

Because of this rollback of Winston's agenda people of faith in business won't have government hammers come to shatter their livelihoods or face the slammer because of following their moral convictions. An administration that tried to jail nuns for not providing abortion pills has another of its anti-religious impositions taken from it.

Because of this rollback a federal worker doesn't have to worry about a man claiming otherwise to show up next to her in a bathroom or in her daughter's. The party of actual science is recognizing the basic facts of male and female.

The President promised a protection of religious liberty and affirming of basic biological facts on the campaign trail. An overwhelming majority of the country voted for him. Now he is delivering on exactly those promises and now the call is for impeachment for the crime of following the mandate given by the voters.

It's a rejection of the American system at the core. It's an attempted coup against the popularly elected President and an usurpation of power and nothing less. This is the extremism of the left laid bare. They can keep holding tight to their usurping dreams, we'll keep working to fulfill the mandate of the people

María Antonieta ponders for a few moments. "Maybe. I don't know how things are going to play out but there is one thing that might matter for the party. I will get a hold of you if something happens there but right now it is not really anything."

"Well then. It's been a pleasure talking with you." Joanne replies and starts leading her guest to exit. "I'm sorry for the ongoing chaos in my office, by the way. I'm trying to get everything back on track."

Glancing over at Kristina, he saw her still talking to the interns, so he proceeded with speaking to Aubrey.

“She came to the states on scholarship for journalism school. Then she worked at some local stations and eventually was hired at Fox. She was kinda their up and coming star reporter, but I think it was a tough hill to climb. She actually wasn’t my recruit, the guy who founded WNN picked her first out of anyone, came into the Fox News HQ and offered her a job. That was ballsy. And she took it, and was kinda the face of the station ever since. She reported during the first iteration of WNN, and when we shut down she moved into the position I’m in now. But then they gave her this primetime position when she wanted to be back on camera. She kinda gets what she wants around here.”

After this impeachment nonsense spoken by an activist journalist whose name I cannot bother to remember, we soon got another bigger from Majority Whip: she claims peaceful protest against one EO is "rejection of the American system." #wtfdidIjustread

This country was built on the unalienable right of Free Speech. It was built on liberty to express one's dissent in every way possible. Right to openly criticize the government, even with harshest of words is at the core of American system. #freedom of speech #freedom of protest #dissent

People from every party, from all parts of US have gathered in DC to expressed their anger because they feel EO POTUS had signed legalizes discrimination. This is their God given right under our Constitution. They embraced American system, they never rejected it.

There had been some questionable words at the rally, but every questionable word of dissent is more American then silence caused by fear of punishment.

[size=120] I remember saying those words once when defending POTUS Reed, I'm going to say them again: I'll honor the day when certain kind of Republicans finally decide to skedaddle to North Korea and stop whining because our political institutions protect the right of opposition to be opposition.

Senator, while you can make good points and arguments, I don't think those are one of them. You talk of our disregard of the representative system, yet forget that we were also elected voicing to represent our and our voters' values. Values far different from those of the President. So, no. We're not taking away the voice of our voters, in fact - we are empowering them.

@HenryOCaldwell

Your argument on gun legislation proposed by President Reed is a disingenious one. You, being the Senate Majority Whip, had more than enough time to study the ARBAA. The ban on discrimination based on sexual orientation is a small portion of an otherwise harmful bill. And looking at the past actions of Republicans in Congress it's not completely unfair to say that it was included for cynical reasons.

Rep. Henry Caldwell
@HenryOCaldwell

Besides that the ARBAA is outrageously harmful to our political system, giving organizations such as the NRA (major republican donor) a tax exempt status, further pushing us away from a people's democracy and giving power to a small number of wealthy individuals.

It's also ironic how you approach the issue of anti-discrimination measures when it comes to the members of LGBTQ+ community. The religion argument is heavily reminiscent of how people in the Civil Rights Era justified their prejudicies.

If you're going to use religion as an argument - don't be a hypocrite. God tells us to love our neighbour and take care of the poor, yet that's the opposite of what's happening under Republican government. Part of the Republican agenda is weakening the social safety net while at the same time not doing anything to provide higher wages to people working at companies which could afford it.

Rep. Henry Caldwell
@HenryOCaldwell

I also don't understand the deep hatred and bigotry towards the transgender community. No one was worried about transgender women in public bathrooms until the Republicans made it their scape goat - for no reason! Also there's nothing anti-science about a transgender people. There's a reason why they're going through gender reassignment surgery and are using hormones - something Republicans are trying to make harder for them!

With that out of the way, there's nothing "extreme" about 99% percent of statements made during the march. The call for impeachement was made by a single attendee and was already criticized by another speaker. To paint the entire event as "usurpation of power", an "attempted coup" or the view of the american left is simply dishonest.

I would have thought a man with a Ph. D would have learned how to read somewhere around the way. Using impeachment as a tool for political usurpation is a rejection of the American system. Finding the subject of a sentence is something fourth graders can do but please forgive me for apparently thinking too much of your abilities.

María Antonieta Arroyo Villanueva de Peña

Representative Caldwell on the other hand seems to have reading down, but not an understanding of the tax code. But let's be fair, that's just par for the course when dealing with left wing economics. The NRA is a 501(c)(4). It's been tax exempt for decades and ARBAA didn't touch the status one way or another. You had more than enough time to study the bill Representative. Why are you lying about it?

Image
María Antonieta Arroyo Villanueva de Peña
@BoyThatsALongName

Ask the victims of Christopher "Jessica" Hambrook if this is for "no reason" Representative. Ask them if they were "worried". Ask them how much they like being called bigots for being sexually abused.

@BoyThatsALongName

You choose the company you keep. You're happily sharing a stage with someone calling for an abuse of power for political usurpation and a rejection of the basic principles of this representative system. You want to prove you're not on Soberman's side? You've still got speakers left. Go up on stage once they're all done and unanimously condemn the impeachment call.

@BoyThatsALongName

I'd like to respect you Caldwell. Put your money where your mouth is. If you're telling the truth it's simple to show it. If not then it'll be just as easy to see. Which are you going to choose?
