CNI Office, Arlington, Virginia

Morton shot off a quick email to his wife. He owed her. It was she who had helped get the CNI gang back togther, so to speak.

To: Sydney Cao
From Greg Morton

Hello love, just sending this to say the meeting is going well. It's hell wrangling all these personalities, but I'll manage.

Greg

He received a quick reply.

Don't start getting any wild-eyed ideas. Just focus on what's practical. And remember to get them to agree to a plank on human rights.

Blyth spoke as she wrote things down:
Section 4: State courts can issue gun violence prevention order that results in immediate temporary seizure of firearms from an individual. The procedure for such order is described as follows:

A)"A family member of an individual or law enforcement officer may submit an application to the ATF, on a form designed by the federal attorney office, that describes the facts and circumstances necessitating that a gun violence prevention order be issued against the named individual;

(B) is signed by the applicant, under oath; and

(C) includes any additional information required by the ATF divisionor district state attorney (or other comparable judicial officer) to demonstrate that possession of a firearm by the named individual poses a substantial risk or a higher standard of risk of personal injury to the named individual or others.

D) ATF must undertake an investigation to establish if the order was warranted. During the investigation the person in question is prohibited from owning or possessing, purchasing or receiving, or attempting to purchase or receive a firearm for a period not to exceed six months, a violation of which shall be considered a felony punishable by imprisonment of no more than a year.

E) If the named individual is found to pose a substantial risk or a higher standard of risk of personal injury to the named individual or others by owning or possessing a firearm, he will be further prohibited from owning or possessing, purchasing or receiving, or attempting to purchase or receive a firearm for a period not to exceed five years, a violation on which will be considered a felony punishable by imprisonment of no more than a year.

Fowler: 6 months is far too long. 30 days during which time it must be proven in a court of law that the individual poses substantial risk to themselves or others. Should this not be proven they must have their firearms returned within 7 days.

She chose her next words carefully. "Marlowe and Ramirez may have seemed fiscally responsible, but that's only when you compare them to their free-spending colleagues in the state legislature. And what about the Second Amendment? All of the good work you do in Congress to protect gun rights is undermined by the Democrats of this state. Lest you forget, they were the one that pushed Proposition 63, which introduced background checks for buying ammunition, and a stricter ban on high-capacity magazines. That's what you get with a progressive Democrat: attacks on constitutional rights and the free market system."

Donald sighed. He knew that Cao was right, but he wasn't going to let her know that she was right.

"Yeah some Democrats can be very silly, but I feel like as long as they aren't too far left they be amazing in a statewide office! Marlowe is a very bad guy mainly because he was a Progressive and I hate his talk show." He decided to change the topic as he did not like them talking about the failings of the Democrats.

"So Miss Cao, you're asking me all these questions about the Progressives and Democrats, are you planning to run for any type of office in the near future?" He said with a playful wink.

"Three months." Blyth tried to negotiate. "One cannot always assume serious investigation could be undertaken in 30 days considering lack of resources that federal services often face. Psychiatric assessment usually takes two weeks to a month if done right."

She smiled, but did correct him. "Mrs, not Miss, Congressman. I am married, after all. And I am seriously considering a run for office. Just wanted to be sure that you know that if I do run, and win, I'll be pleased to work with you on issues where we agree. Like the Second Amendment. But I do understand the situation you're in. I won't ask to support me, but I will ask you to withhold your support; you know money and endorsements and such, from any Democrat that's too far left." She smiled, trying not to reveal too much about her intentions.

She did want to work with him if elected, of course, but most importantly, she wanted to gauge how much support he would give to the Democrats at the state level.

"One thing's for certain, I'm definitely not running for the Senate. Even though there's a progressive Democrat running right now, the only person who could beat them would be a moderate Democrat, someone like yourself." She dropped the hint openly, hoping he would consider backing a moderate Democrat to challenge Valentina. "No, if I do run, it'll definitely be for a position at the state level. Oh! How foolish of me, I've been talking all this time. I must say I'm impressed by your rise to office. How did you end up in Congress, if you don't mind telling me?"

The California Club

"Well Mrs Cao, I hope a moderate Democrat does run for Senate." He winked again. "As for my backstory, I was born in Frenso, California to my mother and father who loved me very much. I've always had an urge to help people so I wanted to become a Doctor. So I first went to college at Yale, then I attended the John Hopkins Medical School in Maryland. I then moved back home to sunny Frenso and became a Surgeon of the children at Frenso Hospital and that's how I became very famous and popular." He paused and began speaking in a dark tone. "When I was 50, there was a major car accident. It was very very bad and ten people were put in critical condition. I operated on every single one of them and they all lived. I became so famous that the press swarmed my Prius so I had to run some of them over." He smiled again. "So then I decided to run for Congress in California's thirty-fourth district. It was a very hard race, especially because of the man I was running against, Howard Jackson. But Howard turned out to be a murderer of a lady who he had sex with! So he got arrested leaving me with an amazing win. Since I have been in Congress, I have made good laws, mainly focusing on Healthcare reform and the education." He finished with a smile.
