"If that's your core problem with such a proposal, we can cross that bridge when we get there. That's an entirely different fight for a whole other day."
"Besides, Cal Reed is also an outspoken proponent of school-choice. I believe we may have a case to spare such a stipend, and even a possible ally, in the face of a looming balanced budget fight."

"I respectfully think that school choice alone is a bit of a red herring. Choice means little when our best teachers are ill-equipped to do their job to the best of their ability and our schools are unable to get rid of teachers who are not preparing our kids for the future they deserve. I think the best thing to do is to genuinely reform our education system, not just simply shuffling money around."

"I think that's a bit of a broad question, personally." Phillip said, taking the last bite out of his sandwich.
"On one hand, I don't support the government bullying God-fearing Christian folks into doing things for people whose moral choices they sincerely conflict with, nor do I support anyone bullying gays or lesbians into becoming straight or otherwise."

Prejean took the folder, sighed as he took out his reading glasses, and held it in front of him to read the documents within it. Upon finishing, he folded his eyeglass and put them back into the case he had taken out from his pocket.
"Well, Mr. Fowler, unfortunately I am not sure I am able to support this legislation, at least as it is written. One of the questions I have is regarding how it would affect one employee expressing his or her personal views on the matter of same-sex marriage, particularly if one of the employees happens to be a gay or a lesbian. I would also feel more comfortable with the bill if religion were included, and just as emphasized in the protections within it as sexual orientation, as an overall protected class. Might as well make it the Civil Rights Act of 2017." Prejean said with a chuckle, handing the folder back to Fowler. "As it stands, it appears to be more so an assault on religious freedom and religious expression than a defense of either."

"Well even if I do not ultimately agree with the contents of this bill, I do appreciate your sincere effort in trying to find a solution to a legitimate problem."
"Anything else you'd like to offer?" Phillip said, forming a pyramid with his fingers as he sat upright into his chair.

'So much for inconsequential' Prejean thought to himself, adjusting himself and re-applying his reading glasses as he looks over the folder's contents.
"I don't want to seem like a pessimist today, Mr. Fowler, but this bill gives authority to the very people who had set up the system to fail to begin with. You're allowing the people who had been running a proverbial ponzi-scheme to adjust existing pension plans to make any number of amendments which may, in all likelihood, result in the elderly being screwed over all the more. The one thing I'm not going to do is to unintentionally allow exploitation of the elderly. I'm fine with them running a temporary deficit on this issue, so as long as we set up the program to stabilize in the not-so-distant future. We ought to be targeting reforms for future pensions, especially for people our age, as opposed to making drastic changes to pensions right now. Too many people are dependent on that money to survive."

"I see nothing in section two about folks having a say in such negotiations regarding their own plans. As it stands, it looks like the trustees and the PBGC making decisions on their behalf."
"Section three, as it is written, doesn't make any such prohibition for those under ten years, rather it only requires plans for those who are over ten years away to be approved for amendments to their plans."

"That's making an assumption, actually, as a 'trustee' is, by nature, anyone who is entrusted to make such a decision on another's behalf. The same would hold true under this particular piece of legislation."

Reddit AMAHello, people of Reddit. I'm Carter Roberts. You may know me as a former college basketball player for Yale, an NBA player for the Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs, or the former assistant coach of several NBA, college, and minor league teams. Now, I'm running for Senate as a Republican in my home state of Connecticut. This is my first-ever AMA, so wish me luck! Ask me anything!

Hey Roberts, so I'm a gun owner and a taxpayer and I wanna know why you think my tax dollars should go to making it harder for people to exercise their SECOND amendment rights!
