"No, no, no. The Democrats haven't failed the liberals of the United States. They've failed everyone. The term limits act they opposed polled with 3/4 of this nation in favor. The gun control they failed to uphold had the support of 2/3 of this nation. The party has become a center-right enabler of the conservative movement."

He paused and chuckled.

"You know me, Scotty. I don't take orders very well. I am here on my own, operating on my own, just the way I like it."

"That is true..."

Scotty sighed and smiled reassuringly upon hearing Alphonsey's commentary.

"Well, I am glad to hear it. This means a lot, because I hope that if I do decide to join the movement, I want to know that there will be a place for me. Give me a couple days after the runoff, and I think you may have your answer."

He drank some water.

It is a quiet and peaceful Friday evening that Ella is spending taking some time to relax in by sewing decorative pillow designs working the fabric into colorful flower shapes on the surface. It has been a nice break from thinking about politics where Ella has been trying to figure out a way to get her Fairness in Wages bill off of the table but it is getting later and she is starting to feel an intense craving for fresh fruit. She checks the apartment's small kitchen and is disappointed by how empty it is so she fetches her jacket and purse to go out to the store for some purchases. Before she goes she decides to check her email and is surprised to find one from a Representative Anderson. She puts down her purse and sits down to type back.

To: Representative Anderson
From: Senator Enchanted

Subject: Car Bill

Hello! I think you forgot to put in the link but I would love to talk about your bill with you! Where do you want to meet and when?

-Ella

Apologies, I will attach the link to the current (and rough) draft of the bill. Maybe we could grab a bite after session one day this week?

"I'm not very in touch with the Vice President. He might like that, he might not, I don't know. He's probably a bigger deal than I am if you get him front and center," Aubrey replied.

“He’s especially a big deal in this state, that’s the main reason why I bring it up,” remarks Carter, glancing at his smart watch. “My staff should be showing up soon, they’ll all want to take pictures with you and stuff. I’ll call some people to set things up. What would you think of sitting in with the callers and surprising a few lucky Connecticuters with a personal call from the First Lady asking for their vote?”

It may not have had the history of Lexington, but it was a town in a state of people who remembered their nation's history and what it meant far more than you could say of the citizens of Massachusetts. The eatery he was at didn't have the nostalgic value of the spot he ate after the exercises on the Green, but it did have a better steak, and was a spot Amaras thought he could start to get right at home in for these sorts of dinner dates.

His dance partner tonight was one he'd been trying to link up with for months now, random little frustrations always getting in the way, but now, a fortnight after his Patriots' Day sitdown, he was up for a meeting that might not have the surprising honest friendliness of the one before, but certainly had a much needed political edge to it, as his Wyomingite companion was sure to see.

A Taxi drove up to the establishment, stopping just out front. Once the back door opened up, Rick Thompson stepped out of the vehicle. Taking in a moment to breathe in the air, he looked around the place, getting a feel for where he’d be attending possibly one of the most important meetings of his career. After a moment, he located Peter Amaras, and walked up to him calmly, though he held a serious look on his face.

"About time we got this through." He said to the Senator in a slightly frustrated manner. Thompson then reached his hand out for a handshake, "How’s your day been, Senator?" He asked, dropping his demeanor a bit to a more casual level, though still clearly focused.

Moses smiled. He hadn't expected such a forward question. He took a moment, then he began.

"Right now, things ain't lookin' great for a lot of folks. We've got a recession and a hateful mess in Washington, and here in Virginia we've got almost half a million folks without insurance, and a major dual threats: environmental pollution on our coast and estuaries, and a strugglin' West that just got out punched by the Dudley Tax. There's a lot to be worried about, and by God we are.

But Virginians are strong, we've got a world class education system and a resilient economy. We are going to recover. I got some solutions up my sleeve, and I can go into those later. But what's more important is that I know other Virginians have solutions as well, and I'll tell you about those next."

He took a pause, realizing he was out of time. But he continued anyway.

"When I was in Congress, I was a compromiser and a unifier. With my books and movies it's the same thing, bringing Americans together. Regardless of race, color, or creed we have the same conversations around our dinner tables, and I did my part in bringing in a more positive topic.

But what's more, I know what it's like to lose everything, to despair. My life fell apart, and I pulled it back together piece by piece with God, honor, humility, and the help of others. I'm going to bring that honor and humility to Richmond so we can compromise to find solutions like tax cuts for the middle class and environmental protection for the Chesapeake, or increasing insurance coverage for our working families and Veterans.

With that honor, humility, and compromise we will show Washington how business should be done, and help not only the good folks of Virginia but all Americans, too."

Clearwater took a breath, laughed, and patted Samara on the back. "Sawrry Son, could say I got carried away there."

Then he pulled a pad of paper out of his jacket's breast pocket and jotted down a few notes with the pen behind his ear. As a writer he had a lot of eloquent ideas floating around, and they often came out at such times.

“That was most certainly not an elevator pitch” Samara said with a chuckle “that’s all good stuff, and you’re a good speaker, you have great rhetoric and I actually enjoy your speeches. But let’s talk about you, want makes you different? Why can you do this job better than say... Arthur Arlen?”

Melvin Freeman

Melvin nodded his head, turned back around, heading toward the kitchen to fetch a glass. He smirked some more, glancing back toward Reginaldo as the guest gazed about the room.

"Thank you. Ya know, I've lost count the number of times we've moved over the years, but we always seem to make-do." Freeman recalled, filling a glass of filtered water, finally setting it on the counter as he turned the water off. "Funnily enough, we sorta stumbled into this house, back when we were just moving into Boston a few years back. Big property, about ten acres, which gave me plenty of space to build an observatory in the back of the property. Turned out to be one of my favorite real estate moves. It's nice, homey, and tranquil here. Was originally just going to be our weekend-getaway, but lived here full-time around when I left teaching at MIT."

"Had plenty of others too though, that we've bought and rented out to other people, but we gave those to our kids so they can stand to benefit." Freeman added, bringing the glass of water to Alphonsey, and sitting down shortly after in an armchair, situated to face slightly diagonally and adjacent to the sofa, and reaching for his own tea he had left behind for a moment just prior.

I think that shows in the kind of campaign I'm running compared to the one he's running, and the way we are addressing the issues facing Virginians of all stripes."

Alphonsey took the water, and immediately took a long sip.

"You mean you have a full-on observatory out in your yard? That's quite impressive. If you don't mind me asking as a layman, how was it built?"

Alphonsey wasn't particularly interested, but he thought it best to try and get to know Melvin better. He put on his face of seemingly genuine curiosity, a skill he learned as a journalist..

“Put confederate monuments at the forefront; people will call it bold to do in a southern state and it will get attention. But polling in Virginia actually favors their removal from public land and placing them in proper historical context. Medicare for all is a big winner, you CANNOT be a gubernatorial candidate this cycle without a healthcare plan. Criminal Justice reform is also excellent even across party lines.”

“Even before the RLSA healthcare was polling as the biggest issue coming up, I can’t imagine how vital it is now. Guns poll deadeven in Virginia, but minutemen will have been a bridge too far for many people so you will be able to reach a lot of voters on that if you don’t go too far. Finally Reeds BBA will cut government jobs, and Virginia has a ton of government workers especially in the northern suburbs, gotta hit that.”

Door-Knocking in Perth Amboy

An army of volunteers amassed in a local park in Perth Amboy, accompanied by Governor Alevarez of New Mexico and Joh Stansky. The groups of people were getting ready for a large door-knocking campaign, which involved spreading awareness about Joh Stansky, advocating for local people to vote for Joh Stansky, and sign people up to vote. Many of the people in a door-knocking campaign wore the 'Latinos for Joh' caps, recently designed for the visit of Governor Jose. "Thank you for rallying here today people," Joh said in a stump speech to the army of volunteers. "Soon we will disperse and spread the message of our movement across the city. The Latino Community can rely on us, because we will fight for a minimum wage, proper education for their children and themselves and Medicare for All. We know these policies are widely popular and we will fight and win on these issues against our competitors." The group dispersed and began knocking on doors across the entire city. Joh and Jose knocked doors, but split up to cover a larger amount of people and to add additional star power to convince people to vote in the Primaries and to vote for Stansky.

"Hello, anyone home?" Stansky said, in one instance, knocking on the door of a small house.
A woman came to the door, but left the screen shut. "Can I help you?"
"Yes, my name is Joh Stansky and I am running for Governor of New Jersey. Are you thinking of voting this Democratic Primary?"
The woman looked at him a little closer, slightly remembering his face from somewhere. "I don't know. Usually when they vote Republican vs Democrat I vote. But only for the Democrat, y'know."
"Yes, I get what you mean. Although I reckon it depends on who the Democrat is, there are some pretty flat Democrats out there. I mean, I don't know if I could vote for Schlang if he was chosen as the Democratic nominee," Stansky commented.
"True. Some Democrats are like Republicans, but even a Democrat acting like a Republican is still a little better."
"Well, that's why I am running. So people like you aren't forced to pick between the lesser of two evils. I propose a dramatic, yet progressive plan for the state of New Jersey."
"And what is that exactly?"
"Increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour,"
"I like that."
"Schlang doesn't support that. That's why I'm not sure if I could support him, personally. The other stuff are tuition free university, Medicare for All, fixing up our roads and infrastructure, bringing back industrial jobs," Stansky listed.
"Interesting. I'll think about it,"
"Thank you, please take this leaflet, in case you froget what our campaign's main tenants are," he hands over a leaflet with a picture of himself on it, with all of the policies he supports on it too. He says good-bye to the woman and walks to the next house.

On a late April day, Representative Lee Appleby was reposed in a simple plastic chair inside the MLK Library, downtown in the District, there to take advantage of the free public wifi and computer access over the expense of purchasing either for himself. Specifically, he was taking advantage of the access to edit his own Wikipedia page to something that sounded a bit more favorable, taking his time to trawl through the article and make his tweaks here and there to be sure the public was properly apprised of his various qualities.

Once the round of edits had been made to his satisfaction, he turned, briefly, to work-related business, skimming through his email, and deciding he probably should actually reply to at least one.

Sounds expensive. Better suggestion: $3,500 tariff on non-American cars. No spending, you make money, American auto still wins.

Just a flat tariff not percentage based? We’d run into some issues with trade agreements limiting tariffs but we can look into it. Let’s use the tariff to help pay for the tax voucher, that way we get the carrot and the stick.”

Appleby typed a response, occasionally distracted by the airshow video he had brought up in an adjacent window.

If I had a $3,500 voucher, I would buy a used car for $500, collect $3,000, sell the car to someone else with a voucher, and repeat.

That’s why we necessitate it needs to be a new car over $6,000 in value.
