A Fox News reporter raised their hand. "Governor, do you expect that weakening corrective measures for disobedient or unruly students will only let those students behave even more badly, without fear of punishment?"
"What about students who teachers and students feel threatened by?"
"We have not seen such results happen when Los Angeles or NYC implemented similar reforms. In addition, I would argue the punishments that we are implementing are far more effective than traditional out of school suspensions, as misbehaving children would not treat the punishment as time off school, but would be compelled to spend time in school making it even more of a deterrent. This tool would also be more effective as unruly students would receive remedial aid in the meantime, and allow the administration to understand the root causes of their problems. On the other hand, the banning of suspensions for defying only extends to out of school suspensions, the type of suspension that would be considered "traditional", teachers will still have various more effective tools for correcting the student's behavior such as detentions, and in school suspensions."
Speaking to the second reporter:
" Could you clarify your question slightly? ".
