Schlang: a wealthy politician, reality television star, completely out of touch with the people of New Jersey. He’s been lapping up the life of luxury that he’s forgotten why the people of New Jersey need a higher minimum wage, why we need manufacturing jobs back and why we need Medicare for All. Schlang: not worth voting for. #GiveJohaGo!

In the elitist boys club in which Schlang operates, it is fine for him to call women ‘creepy’. It’s not fine here in New Jersey. There is a 98% chance that Schlang is a rapist. Believe women, not discard them. #98%

Greetings, would you care to join me through Twitter in raising awareness of the difficult issue of rape in the United States? For you to join me, I ask if you could simply tweet ‘98%’ with me. 98% is the number of women who are telling the truth about rape and sexual assault. Together, I believe we can make an impact in showing our support for women.

Kindly, Joh Stansky

To construed the Republican gubernatorial nominee Ms. Hotchkiss as a viable choice despite her unpopularity about voters and inability to effectively improve New Jersey is not only a stretch but an outright partisan lie.

Stevenson was starting to get her feet under her, and now headed to less familiar ground in the northeast of the state, Lawrence, Massachusetts, to set up a campaign stop to drive her run forward.

"Hello everybody! Thank you all for having me here and letting me spend some time with all of you. It's great to get this chance to meet all of you and I'm glad you gave me the opportunity.

As you all know we're choosing a Senator to replace Alexander Breckenridge. And when we're replacing him its hard to choose someone worse, but you should pick a Senator who's best, and I'm that Senator for you. Someone who will come out and listen to and represent the people that haven't had a voice, that's who the next Bay State Senator should be. You deserve to be represented and have someone who really does represent you. Your concerns and your interests have been totally ignored because everyone who gets elected doesn't want to represent the conservatives or the moderates, they just want to be a part of an obstructionist establishment resistance on the far left wing. A Republican who is really a Republican, that's what I'll be for you, and I'll be someone who cares about moderates too.

I want to talk about healthcare today, it's a very important issue. My father was a doctor and I learned about how important healthcare was when I was very young. We need to get a new system that really works. Winston healthcare has a terrible problem right at the heart of it and that problem is that it forces you to buy healthcare even if you don't want it! Then the government will fine you or throw you in jail if you don't pay the fine, the fine for not having healthcare. How unamerican is that? Whoever came up with the idea that it should be illegal to not have healthcare doesn't sound like someone who should be in charge of anything. It's totally anti liberty and it doesn't work at all. You shouldn't have to buy healthcare from the government just because they tell you to, it doesn't fix any problems. That should be your free choice as an American, to choose what kind of healthcare you want.

I have a better healthcare plan for everyone, and it's about you getting a choice instead of being forced, because that's the American way. Our healthcare should have a government option for healthcare instead of a requirement. You can take the choice to get healthcare that way if that's what you want, or you can get your healthcare from someone else who's selling it, or you can decide that's not right for you and that's all your choice. You don't have to buy life insurance so why should you have to buy health insurance? The government forcing you to buy things is unamerican and it really sounds socialist to me. I want you to have the choice, and I want to let you have your doctor back if you lost them because of Winston. That's my plan, letting you choose instead of being forced and letting you get your doctor back if you want them.

I'm going to be a Senator who supports Reed instead of Winston and I'm going to be a Senator for you. I haven't seen anyone else out here coming and talking to you and listening to your concerns. I'll tell you this, the next Senator of this state should be someone who's going out to the people right now instead of being too busy doing insider politics somewhere to come out to all of you. I'm here right now and I'll be here for you as your Senator, so thank you all and God Bless America!"

When she had gutsed up and ran in 2016 Stevenson was running for a party that had plenty of bigwigs who would rank her below dirt on a scale and it didn't put her in any kind of good position to make it into office. She had leaned heavily on the few contacts that she had still had during that race and nearly tapped them out, then did the same thing to her campaign finances, blowing through her reserves totally in the election and ending it with her campaign in debt with almost no cash on hand. It was a lousy position to be in going into a second race so soon after the first and wasn't helping her feel good about her chances. Fortunately for her, being the first one running while any other potential GOP candidates were still considering meant that she was in the perfect place to be when the tide started turning hard against Breckenridge and Massachusetts conservatives were looking for someone to start pushing back with. Unfortunately that was mostly just the grassroots right now with the bigger donors and bigger interests being more cautious about investing in the questionable quantity that she was, but she wasn't going to complain about the windfall. She knew she was going to have to be more cautious about things after having to use the first donations to cover the debt from the first campaign before she could start getting it to use, but she was feeling adamant that she really needed to make a hard push while she still was running solo, and that's what got her first statewide ad together.

Hi everyone. I'm Kristen Stevenson, and I'm running to be your next Senator from our great state.
Image

It would be a tremendous honor to serve the people of Massachusetts in the United States Senate, where I'll do all I can to do good for this state and her people in every way that I can
Image

I'm ready to sit down and listen to your concerns and help solve the problems you're dealing with, so I can be the best Senator for you that I can possibly be.
Image

I'll be proud to work with our President and with you to make this great state and great country even better than it's ever been before.
Image

I'm Kristen Stevenson, Republican from Massachusetts, and I approve this message, a message that I want to be a Senator for you

Soberman for Jersey Ad

Image

[Soberman appears outside, and speaks directly to the camera as she walks along]

"Joh Stansky and Tony Schlang have both shown that they see women as political props, only used as a means to hammer each other for their mutually baked in prejudices. The creepy commercials aired by both men, on your television, put on full display for you their larger view of women, as an interest group to be manipulated, not as people. New Jersey deserves a strong, independent voice that is willing to fight for women, not over them, and I, Samantha Soberman, will be that voice in the Governor's mansion.

Sexism in American Society has never been more openly observable than now, and both the Republicans and Democrats have chosen to perpetuate that problem on a national scale for the sake of their political positioning. We need equal pay, expanded maternity leave, and protections for women's choice, and nobody else in this race is willing to ensure those things. We need an end to the pink tax, and a guarantee that when a woman is sexually assaulted, she is believed, not shunned. We need to pursue action that produces results, and upholds basic human rights, not that perpetuates empty rhetoric and fear.

New Jersey, vote no on Joh Stansky. Vote no on Tony Schlang. Vote no on Melissa Hotchkiss. Vote for people who care, not politicians who don't. Vote Progressive."

"I'm Samantha Soberman, and I approve this message."

Congressman Morton's office, Cannon Office Building, Washington D.C.

As he was sitting in his office, looking over letters from constituents after the House was done for the day, Greg's phone buzzed. It was a notification from the local news app he had downloaded. There was a story about him and Native Americans. As he read, he saw that there was a tweet from Senator Ashe which mentioned him, and smiled in response.

He was almost going to restore his Twitter and thank him, but that darned thing was what got him in so much trouble in the first place. He had made a promise to Sydney and himself: no Twitter until he completed his meetings with Rageaholics Anonymous, unless there was some kind of emergency. He prayed that the latter instance would never be the case.

If I had been less careless, I would be able to thank Ashe publicly... Greg shook his head. He couldn't feel sorry for himself, that's what they said in the meetings.

Regardless, it was a bit of cheery news to brighten his day. Sydney had called from home about how he was losing support from local party bigwigs, and how they were looking to support someone else.

He could always count on her to be the bearer of bad news. And she had been so harsh after his Tweetfest on treason.

"You think small. You act small. You are small. In so, so many ways.... Nothing in your life has been planned! You just go wherever the wind takes you. You don't think, Greg! You never think. You just act."

He remembered the 6th of the 12 Promises, and said it aloud: "That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear." Well, I feel pretty damn useless now... and I haven't stopped feeling sorry for myself since.

He remembered the 9th of the 12 Promises, and said it aloud: "Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change."

His attitude hadn't changed much, and his outlook was still grim.

The 12 Promises were supposed to help a rageaholic complete the 9th of the 12 Steps: Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

They did say that this would be the journey of a lifetime. Perhaps while completing the 9th Step he would fulfill the 12 Promises as well.

He cracked out a pen and started writing.

Representative O'Leary, I would like to start by saying this is going to be a very short letter. Don't want to take up too much of your time, and there's no need to reply unless you want to.

I've been doing a lot of self-reflection recently, and it occurred to me that my problem -to put it generously- with my temperament has been present in all aspects of my life, including how I conduct myself on the House floor.

To that, I would like to apologize for my tone during the debate over the Noble Cause Act, and the other times I have been rude or ill-tempered towards you. It was unprofessional, unhelpful, and unproductive on my part, and it is my goal for that not to occur again.

I hope this letter finds you in good spirits.

Sincerely,

Representative Greg Morton

Senator Amaras, I will start this letter by saying it will be very short and you are under no obligation to reply, unless you wish to do so.

I've rarely been one to apologize -something else that I am working on- but I would like to apologize to you for my part in our Twitter spat. Looking back now, it was impulsiveness and rashness on my end that drove my tweets, not any personal animus towards you. Despite our political differences, stooping to personal attacks was wrong of me from both a professional and a moral standpoint.

I suppose at the root of it all is anger, anger that is misplaced and misdirected.

I know that words are not the same as actions, but it is my hope that this will be the first step in a journey that leads to me letting go of my tendency for anger- once and for all.

I hope this letter finds you well.

Sincerely,

Representative Greg Morton

Greg quietly walked over to the respective locations and delivered the letters. Before heading back to his own office, he stopped by Senator Ashe's office, telling the person at the front desk that he wished to speak with the Senator when it was most convenient for him. Greg had not worked on any notable bills of his own of late, mostly focusing on constituent assistance. Thankfully, this bill about the Lumbees had given him an idea.

At his office, Greg began to sketch out the outline of a bill in his trusty notebook. With some effort, he started combing through his file cabinet for the necessary materials to write the substance of it at a later time.

This would show the naysayers back home what's what- for now.

Congressman Morton's office, Cannon Office Building, Washington D.C.

Senator Noah Ashe had been on a lunch break when Congressman Morton had stopped by his office to express a wish to meet with him. When he walked back into his office immediately following his lunch break, Lauren - his secretary - passes along the message from Congressman Morton. Senator Ashe decides that there's no better time than the present and makes his way to Congressman Morton's office, greeting the secretary as he walked in.

"I'm here to meet the congressman, my secretary says he asked for me. Senator Ashe." He spoke kindly to the secretary, who waved him past, notifying him that the congressman is expecting him and that he can go in. He continues, opening the door to the congressman's office and entering the room.

He extends his hand to shake hands with the congressman, "Mr. Morton, I believe you asked to meet with me, how are you this fine afternoon?"

"I will probably support you. I can endorse you when the primary has ended. Is there anything else you need Congressman Samara?" Senator Richter's phone suddenly rang. He looked at the caller identification on the screen. "Ooh pardon me. It's a Minnesota number. I need to answer." He answered the phone.

"An endorsement after the primary isnt much good" Samra said as he picked up the phone "I'll get out of your hair if youre busy"

Senator Richter smiled broadly. He did not like the Congressman's tone. He did not help him with the computer, and he was being rude now. "It helps you. I can make sure unions have your back. They could back the Progressive. I don't feel comfortable endorsing you until I know all of the candidates running."

He pushed the hold button on the telephone.

Morton warmly shook Ashe’s hand. “That I did, Senator. That I did. After I heard about this bill recognizing the Lumbees, I was inspired to make a similar bill recognizing the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. So I thank you for the inspiration. Would you care for a glass of wine or some other beverage?”
