“Good Evening, my fellow North Carolinians. While Congress is currently out of session and we may not get back to it in a while, I would like to voice my opinion on a piece of legislation that will be voted on soon. As you may know, the Preservation of Marriage Act will be voted on in the senate when congress is back in session. I would like to call on the Republican Majority to vote for the Act in order to preserve states rights as well as religious freedom for religious figures across these United States of America. I believe that once this piece of legislation is passed, religious people will be given the freedom that they have so dearly lost since the supreme courts Obergefell ruling.”
“I would next like to talk about a piece of legislation that is currently going through our state legislature, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. This act will defend the religious freedoms of business owners across North Carolina by allowing them to service to people based on the business owners own religious beliefs. And while some may call it discrimination, it is not. This RFRA will be making sure that religious business owners of North Carolina know their freedoms are being protected by the government.”
Governor Chalmers then takes a sip of his water. “I will now be taking questions from the press.”

"Belle Reve, TNS. If this bill passes do you plan to try to challenge the courts and bring back North Carolina's ban on same sex marriage?"

“I very do much intend to challenge the courts on the matter of Gay Marriage. Since the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, Pastors, priests, and many other religious figures who give marriages have been forced to go against their religious beliefs. We must not forget the religious beliefs of the many people of America while making these kind of laws. Alright, next question.”

"Jenny Johnson, Johnson Newsletter. Governor, why are you focusing on POMA? Shouldn't you be focusing on bills that directly affect the people of North Carolina?"

“I am just voicing my opinion on a national bill and I do not really think there is a crime with that. However, if you want me to voice my opinion on a couple of bills that effect solely North Carolinians, I will do that now.”
Chalmers takes a sip of his water. “I am currently working with the legislature on a bill for North Carolina that will increase sentencing time for drug dealers across the state of North Carolina. Another law I am working on with the legislature is a law that will raise the smoking age in North Carolina to the age of 21 as it has been proven to be harmful during a crucial development period in the human lifespan.”
His chief of staff then walks up, and whispers something. “I’m running out of time, so I can only take a couple more questions. Alright, who’s next?”

Absolutely. I believe that the people of North Carolina are still not comfortable with the idea of gay marriage. I also believe that once the Obergefell ruling was made, it infringed on many religious freedoms of religious people across North Carolina including pastors, priests, rabbis, and many other religious leaders including religious license clerks across North Carolina. Alright, next question.”

I would allow them to stay married if they were married before our ruling against gay marriage, same goes with North Carolinians who were married before the ruling. If they were married afterwards, then their marriage license would not be recognized inside the state of North Carolina. I have time for one final question.”

I think I just made that perfectly clear, if the marriage license was issued before POMA is passed, we will recognize those marriage licenses. However, if the license was produced after the POMA is passed, we will not recognize the marriage license from that same sex couple. I must get back to my office now, thank you for the questions and your time.”

North Carolina was one of many states where the people democratically chose to reject same-sex "marriage" and affirm the definition it has always been, of one man, and one woman, and by an overwhelming margin!
