"Prizes?" Hawkins said, finding a place to sit. "Some free crap you have get in a raffle. Sweepstakes to overseas. And probably some middle-class nonsense. At least, it's better than wasting our time watching our children perform on their school plays. Do you realize how much camcorder batteries we waste on filming that trash? Kids are such horrible singers and dancers that my ears and eyes bleed. That was why I had my son play football." Hawkins explained, putting a napkin over his lap.

Well, I have this bill in preparation that would limit patents on new hybrid seeds, thus enabling farmers to re-plant them without possibility of lawsuit. I'm planning to bring it up in House soon, and it would be good if you spoke on its behalf. The seed companies like Monsanto are bleeding small farmers dry, and it is time for us to put a stop to it."

Her face lit up at the words about the party: "Yeah, he talked to me about it. Said it was the best written act he saw in a long time.So I assume you're fan of jazz bands and dashing suits, huh? James and I both adore jazz and the 1920's.

South Lawn, White House, Washington D.C.

The VH-60N White Hawk was not exactly designed for a person of the President's stature, as his two-meter frame frame had to bend on itself to slip into the fuselage, turning to give a hand up to his ducking wife as she fit her own way in. A black-suited agent followed, and another closed up the doors behind them, as the rotors spun up to speed, finally putting out the lift to pull Marine One up off of the South Lawn, and skyward. Cal was at the window, taking in the sight of the quickly shrinking White House and surrounding buildings with rapt eyes. He glanced over to Aubrey on the seat next to him, to see her, back up against the flat metal, not exactly the most comfortable of positions, with her eyes closed, casually resting. He considered tapping her arm, but contented himself with sighing at what she was missing, and going back to the sight. The chopper started its curve over the District, angling its way now towards Andrews AFB, where the First Couple's actual transport awaited.

Both were out on the tarmac not long after the Sikorsky set down, the blowback as they spun down still buffeting each of their black suits as they came up on an aircraft with a little more legroom. The American Dream Machine had been quite a craft, but the VC-25A before them was at another level, as you would expect from Air Force One. It would be the first time for either of the First Couple taking a trip in the specialized vessel, and Cal was a good bit more excited about the chance than her. Their luggage was already loaded up, everything they needed for a week overseas in an eclectic mix of the most and least hospitable places.

The engines were already warming up as both of the Reeds ascended the steps, and by the time they were seated, Air Force One was only moments from takeoff, and it was not long before it had reached altitude, and started cruising east.

The first hour of the flight over the Atlantic had Cal traversing the remarkably well-provisioned craft, before finally looking for a spot to settle in for the hop across the pond, coming up on a bench where his wife sat, leaning over, just sitting there, for all he could tell.

He slipped in beside her quietly, reached around her shoulders with a long arm, and tapped the other side. No response.

"Hey." he said, a bit playful, a slight bit concerned. "If you act much more like a rock, you're going to pull this thing down from the sky."

She sighed, and leaned back, pulling her hair back behind her head idly, and hunching back over slightly, hands on her thighs. "Don't have a witty response ready."

He rubbed her shoulder. "Thinking about the kids?"

Another sigh. "Yeah. I know it's just a week, but it's never been that long before. It's not that I don't trust them it's....it is that. There's not enough trust for something that big. It's another level, and none of them are near it."

"I'm glad your mother agreed to come down."

A slight smile broke through. "First time you've ever said that."

Cal laughed. "Probably. It's the right decision, though, Aubs. Taking them where we're going was never an option."

"I know. Doesn't do anything for the hormones and maternal instincts, but I know."

Cal stood up, pulled on her shoulder to get his wife to rise as well. "Come on. Let's snap you out of this."

"Ideas?"

"Well, it might not be the biggest, but we've got a screen for movies on this plane, and I just so happened to find a disc or two you might have a slight interest in." Cal grinned, and revealed a DVD case, a spacecraft flying towards a looming, space-floating face depicted on it.

Aubrey smiled. "Maybe just a little."

The couple headed off to put in the disc, as the jumbo jet continued on its long journey, its scheduled descent at Al Udeid still several hours away. At that point the designation of Air Force One would head over to an aircraft somewhat better suited for the environment in which they found themselves. Touchdown in Iraq in another few hours, and then it would be time to get started.
