"Because POMA is going to be a massive issue should it pass, it will cause a constitutional crisis regarding the power of the court. Mr. President you may be able to appoint more supreme court justices than any other President, if we allow a law that undermines the authority of the court on of your most lasting contributions could be undermined."

"Also it calls into question other supreme court cases regarding marriage, like Loving which was decided along the exact same lines as Oberfell."

"Additionally POMA passing the Senate puts our majority in jeopardy, more than anything else passed so far this session. Only 5 states have a majority population that opposes gay marriage, the swing in public opinion over the past decade is incredible and shows no signs of slowing down. I've spoken with pollsters, even in states that are borderline on the issue of gay marriage we are seeing a minimum 5 point swing against republicans on the generic ballot."

"We cannot let it pass the house, I recommend we have the Speaker find some way to table the thing so it doesn't come to a vote. If it passes the house and you sign it, we lose a significant advantage and potentially unite the fractured left and the center around the issue, not to mention the 2020 implications. We lose the momentum on social issues we need to tackle abortion, which is something we can make a lasting impact on. Any law restricting Gay Marriage we pass will last 2 or 3 election cycles at most depending on if the left reunites."

"If we want to overturn Oberfell on the basis of states rights we can do that, as I said you will have more court appointees than almost any other President. It would be a simple thing to have a case similar to Oberfell hit the bench and then have it overturned. Mr. President I need to be able to ask Rossi about this in our meeting to make sure she agrees with the White House."

Sir please I need to know the stance of the White House so I can be certain Rossi is a good pick. I will meet with her tomorrow and I will rush her hearing through, she will be in front of the Senate by the end of the month."
