Jared stood and puffed himself up a little, then launched into his speech.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this country has seen many barriers fall in the last fifty years as we have followed a path embracing greater tolerance over greater exclusion and hatred. Fifty years ago was a very different world. You could be arrested for being with someone who had different color skin from you, women were treated more like property than human beings and homosexuality was punished with death. We have rolled back those barriers with celebrating love in relationships regardless of skin tone instead of condemning it and seeing greater rights for women being able to make their own decisions and their own way, and taking another step towards marriage equality and ending homophobia. The fight always continues but we have another landmark here today. The ones in the past who wanted to ban "miscegenation" and keep women barefoot and pregnant not even able to divorce an abuser were always intolerant and regressive but today we see that more clearly and treat them with the contempt they deserve. The same is going to be true for the ones who fought against marriage equality and it will be true with the issue today for the people who try to deny the very identity of others by wanting to lock them into gender constructs. I expect the radicals here to throw hatred at proposals like these, but for the reasonable and the moderates or even the conservatives, realize that in fifty years a vote against will be as big of a black mark on your legacy as trying to ban marriages by color. Don't you want to be remembered as standing on the side of progress?'
