María Antonieta settles into the isolated corner where she can see any would be snoops. "The fine is only half of the problem. Maybe a third of it. The bill itself is tainted with it now. The idea that we are punishing the mother in these cases is political poison. It's not something we can have any association with and keeping the bill that used to have it and having that come up for consideration is going to be nothing but trouble."

She glances around. "But the last part is that we're not trying to pass this bill. We have another coming together in the works from the leadership. Something more decisive. The party's effort is behind that right now. You'll be right there to know once it hits the floor since we have your vote."

She decides to be nice even though she is not in a great mood. "I get that you want to get your ideas out there and are trying to help and those are good instincts. Just make sure to check in with the leadership before you go ahead so we can make sure the ideas work and can give you support when we can."
