House of Judah wrote:Taking Khasinkonia's example, I went ahead and came up with some initial impressions on Victor's part.

Ana Kuznetsov: I’m not saying she isn’t 20 pounds of crazy in a 5 pound bag, but to put the Gate together and launch her requires more than just crazy. It takes vision and determination. That I can respect. That body doesn’t hurt either. Now if only she would get out of the way and let me at the controls more often, that would make her perfect.

Orion Conwell: I know a thing or two about craft design. The Gate is a masterwork, and Orion should feel proud of himself. Once he’s done with that, he needs to calm down. Oh, he’s fine when we’re in the lounge. But in the engine room? His attention is just way too divided.

Hazel Conwell: That is a beautiful woman. Smart as hell too, to design a ship like this. Damn shame she’s married, though. I’ll flirt, I love flirting. But I do not tussle with a married women. That’s a whole headache I just don’t need. Still, she should be fun for trading barbs and playing cards.

Celeste Morgans: I knew people like her back in the SanFAF. They’re always looking for that one thing that a person doubts about themselves and just pick at it and pick at it. She maintains her distance from people. That’s fine for now, but at some point she needs to learn she ain’t alone out. None of us are.

Celsus Bell: Some people know how to drink. I happen to be one of them. Celsus is not. Not right now. He might be a damn good surgeon, but that doesn’t mean a thing if his hands are shaking from the booze or because they want it. He better get himself right, or I might just raid his room and add his collection of drinks to my own until he’s healthy.

Perinua Vrimsen: I know I’m a pig since the way a woman looks does a lot for my opinion of her. I sure wouldn’t kick Perinua out of bed. I may smother her with a pillow, though, if only to keep her from nagging at me any more. She seriously needs to calm down, knock back a couple of drinks and relax. Getting laid would probably help too.

Casper Jones: Thank god for Casper Jones. Doc Bell is a good man in bad trouble. He needs someone next to him to keep him steady, and Cas is probably that man. He’s a bit too much of a mouse, but we can work on that. I’ve got plenty of stuff to put hair on his chest. Maybe it’ll finally get him to open up. Last guy I saw trying that hard to smile that much was running for office.

Lena Velton: That is my kind of woman. Drinks hard, fights harder, and seizes life by the balls. Hot as a spitfire too. If she’s down to party, I’m definitely going to invite her back to my bunk. Share some of my whiskey, maybe play some strip poker, then chase away the cold of space.

Here you go Steve:
Alistair Haywood: I think Alistair and I are going to be good friends before too long. He seems slow to trust, which I get. Thing about those kind of people is usually once they make up their mind to trust someone, they become a loyal partisan, unshakable. He’s good at what he does, and nothing earns respect quicker than competence.

I see some potential one-sided flirting if nobody else is on the ship. This would be an interesting interaction.

I mean, as long as it looks decent in a skirt, Victor will flirt. Even if she does annoy the bejeezus out of him.

She looks decent enough. Not a supermodel, but then again, this is a pretty good-looking crew. It's like comparing a daisy to a bunch of tulips and roses. On its own, it looks nice, but, compared to the other ones, looks pretty meh.

If you want something to blame for the IC coming out late, blame Shakespeare.

Yes. If it doesn't happen, just edit your last app to have it back in.

And it'll be Saturday or Sunday.

Edited the appearance of Alastair's armor, as well gave him a minor personality tweak.

Following the lead of the other's before me, I'll post Alastair's opinion of his fellow crew mates. Thanks Judah for the handy boxes.

Ana Kuznetsov: Finally, someone who recognizes my genius! Or maybe just crazy enough to take a chance with a washed-out Nomad who talks to his drone. Either way, she's given me a chance to get to space and actually pursue my work, so she'll have my loyalty, at least for a while. There are rumors that she does nothing but play games and chase thrills, though I'm unsure if these rumors have any merit. I wouldn't mind the company of a fellow gamer, but I would prefer a competent captain over anything.

Of course, while I'm grateful for the chance to escape terra firma, there are still things that don't sit right with me. Ana had everything she could ever want at Earth. Family, money, power. Why throw it all away? What is she chasing? Or is she running? Perhaps I should give her cabin a little search. Or if it's thrills she hungers for, I'm sure the mobility of the HES could help satiate that. If I could get her alone, I'm sure I could learn the truth. And if I learn I'm part of a fool's errand, well, hopefully there's someplace sane among the stars.

Orion Conwell: It's good to be working with another professional. It's one thing to build a spacecraft, it's quite another to build one out of the junk left behind on Earth, even with the Kuznetsov's considerable fortune. He seems like a nice guy. Cares about his wife, likes the other members of the crew, and loves what he does. I thought people like that only lived in story books. Either he's just a good person, or he's hiding something. Another thing to investigate.

If he seems trustworthy, then I'd love to ask for his help. I'd love to integrate the stealth tech from my cloak into my HES, and it'd be nice to mass produce HERA rounds so I don't have to do it myself. And if my suit or Spot gets banged up, I wouldn't mind a hand at repairing them. But until I can be sure I can trust him, I won't let him near the stuff. The last thing I need is for it to be tampered with or used against me.

Hazel Conwell: Orion's better half. Beautiful, smart, and talented, it's easy to see why he fell for her. On top of that, she seems like yet another kind-heated person: compassionate, open-minded, and willing to cheer up the others. As with Orion, she's either a genuinely good person, or she's compensating for some yet unknown vice. I've yet to decide which it is.

As with Orion, I hope I can trust her. Given her skills in software, I would love to see what kind of things she could do for Spot and my suit. If anyone could make Spot a real boy, it's her. But even if I can trust her and her husband, I should learn why they agreed to help Ana with what could easily be a death sentence. Engineers of their caliber could have made quite a name for themselves in any city state. And they choose space? At the very least, it's a story worth a listen.

Celeste Morgans: Arguably the most powerful person here, and the most dangerous. I've got to decide fast if I can trust her or not. Combine her skills as a hacker with her generally nosy attitude, she represents a very real threat to my own investigations into my crew mates. Unfortunately, she's too good for me to find records of her, so I'll have to make the decision solely on how she acts. Until then, I've got to find a way to keep her out of my room, and most importantly, Spot. I don't want to have to Old Yeller him if she uses him against me.

To make matters more complicated, she's slow to get close to people, preferring instead to needle them incessantly. Maybe if I can stick it out, she'll be willing to open up a little. If I can figure out what she plans on doing in space, I can figure out if I can trust her not to turn my equipment against me.

Celsus Bell: My fellow medical officer, who thankfully has taken the boring work from me. He's got the makings of a professional, except for one major flaw. That damn bottle. If it doesn't get taken care of, someone's going to get hurt. And in space, no one can hear you sue for malpractice.

If it's worth staying with this ship, then that's the first problem I'm dealing with. The last thing I need is to break my leg and let it be set by a guy who can barely stand. It might help knowing what drives him to his vices. If I can learn it if I can get close to him. Perhaps over tweaking the serum rounds from my rifle?

Perinua Vrimsen: If Ana really is a hands-off kind of captain, then thank God we have Perniua. She's quite capable of running the ship smoothly, even if she's a little too insistent about keep an archive going. What is it for? Is it just for posterity, or is it for her own gain? And if it's for her gain, how does she expect to move the files?

As with the others, I'll need time and answers before I can trust her fully. Why does Ana trust her enough to run the ship in her stead? Is such a work-oriented person content with second mate, or do I have to worry about a mutiny? And most importantly, what's with those heels? Is it just a height thing, or she hiding things in them? I'm not sure how I can attempt to bond with her. Perhaps an RTS game of some kind?

Victor Morgenstern: I don't think I have to worry about ulterior motives from Victor. From the way he acts to the things he says, it's clear why he's here: adventure. He's a professional in the same way I am; incredible skill in his field with the arrogance to match. With a captain who refuses to give up the controls, he's got plenty of time to amuse himself while he waits for the next bit of action.

It might be worth reaching out to him. I could use a gambling partner, and it wouldn't hurt to have a friend who doesn't have anything to hide. Gambling is probably the easiest way to do so, though as a drone pilot he might admire Spot over any skill I have at cards or dice. I don't have to make a decision now, I'll just wing it.

Casper Jones: Another kind-hearted soul. If these are kinds of people Ana is attracting, then perhaps I shouldn't be too quick to judge her. He seems compassionate to a fault, willing to do whatever he can to please those around him regardless of his own feelings. It's earnest enough that I don't believe he's got anything to hide, and his timid and stuttering nature is genuine enough to support this. I can double check this by watching him work in the medbay, just in case.

I don't think I'll have to pry into his backstory too much to understand him, but if needed I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunity while we work. Banter helps pass the time, and a medic should be able to work well with his nurse.

Lena Velton: Another potential problem. While I could take anyone else on this ship, an ex-Sekcram operative isn't someone I want to tangle with, not unless I've got prep time and surprise on my side. If she actually follows her family's motto, then I better find out who she's loyal to. By all accounts it should be the captain, but I'm not about to get burned by assuming.

I would prefer if she was an ally. I could learn a lot from sparring with someone of her skill. Not only that, but I'm the field medic, she's the combat expert. Odds are we'll be paired up on forays, and when that happens I need to be able to trust her. She seems to have a love of both fighting and drinking, so perhaps I could find my bond through there. Alcohol has a way of loosening lips, so if I can survive a night of drinks with her, maybe I'll learn what I need to.

PONG Application

Image

Name: Volya Nikolaevich Smirnov/Воля Никола́евич Смирно́в
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Appearance: Kinda like in the picture, he is supposed to be 185 cm tall, so.. 6 feet and nearly 1 inch, I believe? He weighs 65 kilograms, so around 145 pounds. He might seem to be rather slim, at least on a first look, but he in shape, and even if it is not obviously visible, he is moderately muscular. He normally wears his security guard uniform, and when off-duty, he normally only wears gray clothes, normally gray jeans and gray shirts.
Position on the Ship: Security Guard
Skills: Volya has a long experience at fighting with all kinds of guns and weapons, which was only complemented by the professional training he eventually received once he joined Kuznetsov Incorporated, and as a guy who spent most of his life in battles, fights, and gunfights, he knows what to do in those situations. During his time in Novyy Petrograd, he has received an excellent training in various more or less martial arts, and it can be said that he is a master of Sambo, plus, of course, all the experience that he has at fighting people in the brutal kind of fights that happen during battles, and he is pretty good at Russian boxing/fist fighting. He has also received an extensive training in Systema and in ROSS, which helps him in unarmed combat, but more so in melee combat, where he is an expert.
Equipment:
  • POS-443-Pistolet Yarygina A standard handgun, the best made by Petrogradskiye Oruzheynyye Sistemy. It is a semi-auto weapon, well known for its resilience and versatility, the weapon of choice for anyone in Novyy Petrograd, from soldiers to criminals. A small silencer can also be attached to it, for stealth operations.
  • POS-12 The standard assault rifle created by POS. It has a modular design like most of the weapons designed by POS, borrowing from the technology of Kutznetsov Incorporated,. It might not have the same fancy tech that other rifles have, being limited to standard targeting and trajectory correcting systems, but its reliability is well known. Whether you are fighting in a nuclear wasteland or in the depths of space, the POS-12 will never let you down.
  • POS-90 A folding submachine gun created by POS. It has the same design as the POS-12 but it is obviously much smaller, and the fact that it can be folded makes it easy to hide and conceal anywhere and at any time, and the ability to add a silencer over it makes it perfect for situations were enemies must be taken out in silence.
  • POS-N1 A special scout knife created by the POS. It is a special survival knife, with a built-in single-shot shooting mechanism designed to fire a projectile at the enemy in situations of absolute necessity. It is designed for the blade to either be stabbed or thrown at the enemy, or fire at the enemy using the inbuilt shooting mechanism at distances up to 25 meters. The knife also has a a certain system built into it, which heats the blades to extremely high temperatures when needed. The blades can easily resist the heat, but this turns them into extremely dangerous weapons. Volya has two of these knives.
  • POS-B45 A standard expandable baton created by POS, to be used by law enforcement and security forces. Perfected for use with Systema tactics. Retracted, the baton can be placed in pockets or hidden in various ways, but it can be expanded until it is 26'' long. It can be used to defeat an opponent in various ways, and it can also discharge an electric shock into the enemy when needed.
Biography: Volya Nikolaevich Smirnov was born in the city of Novyy Petrograd as the son of Nikolai Smirnov and his wife, Anastasia Smirnov. Life in Petrograd.. has never been easy. Unlike the richer Novyy Kyyiv, Petrograd used to be well known for its criminal underground, and the massive acts of violence born out of that world of greed and darkness. So there is no wonder that Volya has no actual memories of his parents. One day they were just. killed. No one ever told him the details, trying to spare him from the cruelty of the gruesome death of his parents...but they died. All he remembers is blood.. the stench of death.. and him wandering aimlessly on the streets. It was raining. He had nowhere to go, nothing to do.. he should have just died. If not for his uncle. A grumpy old mercenary, known only as "the Gray Bear", his uncle adopted him.. whether it was because of pity or because of another sentiment entirely, no one knows. What's certain is that from that day onward, Volya joined the Gray Shadows, just one of the many criminal, mercenary groups of Novyy Petrograd's underground. His old life, his childhood, died there. Because what followed was simply, hell. One could easy question the logic behind forcing a kid to become a mercenary, but to everyone's surprise.. Volya was actually good at it. Step by step, fight by fight, raid by raid, the boy slowly picked up a lot of secrets and tips from the other mercenaries. The company started to take care of his training, from martial arts, to simply how to survive during a chaotic battle. It was a brutal life. Kill or be killed. But that's where Volya learned how to survive. However.. one by one, the mercenaries were killed. His uncle died during a raid on a bank, a stray bullet. There was nothing he could have done. And the company disbanded. Volya was left alone once again...and the only thing he knew was how to kill. So when Petrograd was shaken by internal conflicts, the boy was quick to join the Narodnoe Opolcheniye, the militia forces rallied by Novyy Petrograd's government against the rebels. And that's where the boy made a name for himself. That's when through a simple choice, his choice to enlist in the militia... Volya left behind his short life of crime. After the rebellion ended, one of the officers invited him to join Petrograd's military. And after a few months, despite his young age, Volya joined the Independent Operational Purpose Division, where he firstly came into contact with Kutznetsov Incorporated and the various mercenaries they employed. And of course, even if being in the military helped his sense of patriotism.. mercenary work was far better payed. So, he soon joined the security forces of the Petrograd Weapons Systems, POS, the manufacturer of the weapons he loved so much, and a subsidiary of KI.
At POS, Volya finally received a proper training that supplemented his already existing skills pretty well. He rose through the hierarchy pretty rapidly, until his skills were noticed by the main branch in Novyy Kyyiv, so he was transfered to the security forces of KI itself. And that's where he stayed. Of course, there was a limit to how much he could rise in rank, after all, even if he was skilled, he was just a no one from a different city. So when he was presented with the opportunity to join Navi's Gate.. he couldn't say no.
Theme Song: I'm bad at this.

It is a semi-auto weapon, with changeable modules, so it can be either be used in a projectile or a laser configuration. It is also well known for its resilience and versatility, the weapon of choice for anyone in Novyy Petrograd, from soldiers to criminals. A small silencer can also be attached to it, for stealth operations.
  • POS-12 The standard assault rifle created by POS. It has a modular design like most of the weapons designed by POS, borrowing from the technology of Kutznetsov Incorporated, and it can be used either to fire normal projectile ammo, or to fire laser rounds.
It has the same modular design as the POS-12 but it is obviously much smaller, and the fact that it can be folded makes it easy to hide and conceal anywhere and at any time, and the ability to add a silencer over it makes it perfect for situations were enemies must be taken out in silence.
The knife also has a laser system built in, so when necessary, the edge of the blade is covered in a laser, turning it into a laser-knife.
Get rid of the laser weaponry and it's accepted. Also, maybe expand the bio to say how he joined POS?

So no laser weaponry?

Alright.

Nah, I'm still working for it. After joining the NO he joined the ODON of Petrograd's security forces, before he was hired by POS, since they paid him better, and then he joined Kutznetsov Incorporated.
